In this eye-opening episode of Fishing Without Bait, host Jim Ellermeyer is joined once again by producer Mike Sorg to explore how modern media shapes our identities, fuels our purchases, and even distorts our sense of self-worth. From emotional manipulation in advertising to influencer culture and data-driven targeting, Jim and Mike unpack the psychological tactics behind today's media and tech. How does a Power Glove from the '80s connect to the viral influencer culture of today? Are we in control of our choices—or are we reacting without realizing it? In this episode: • Why media makes us feel “less than” • Celebrity endorsements vs. authentic influence • Targeted ads, data mining, and algorithmic persuasion • Unrealistic expectations and identity loss in the digital age • The mental health toll of comparison culture • What it really means to be unmanageable • Mindful practices to resist manipulation “It's much easier to fool someone than to convince them they're being fooled.” Take a breath. Check the facts. And most importantly—remember who you are.

From an early age, she lived many lives, dreaming of endless possibilities. She traversed the globe, trained as a classical musician, and navigated alternative, traditional, and outdoor schooling systems. Bullied and misunderstood, she turned to solitude in nature, travel, and soul-nourishing friendships as her greatest teachers and catalysts for growth. Growing up during British Columbia's green rush with hippie parents and facing early health challenges, her path in wellness began to take shape. At 15, she attended her first ceremony with her father in Peru. By 20, she completed her first yoga teacher training. A year later, a near-death experience while surfing in Nicaragua compelled her to leave nursing school and dive headfirst into entrepreneurship. She found early success, escaped a narcissistic relationship with a con artist, and eventually reached a breaking point as her health struggles resurged and severe depression took hold. This chapter of soul-searching and unraveling ultimately led her back to love—sliding into her DMs in the form of Dallas, a childhood friend and high-school crush. With his unwavering support, Savannah began to heal and return to herself—and to Baja Sur, where her father built their off-grid sanctuary: the dOMe hOMe retreat. Today, she creates transformational spaces for high-achieving women to slow down, reconnect with what truly matters, and break free from the burnout of “success.” Her work guides women to reprogram beliefs around achievement and abundance by returning to their most authentic selves.IG: @_savfox and @domehomeretreat

Enjoyed this episode and want to send a gift? Click here In this episode, we explore the profound impact of calm and peace in a world teetering on the edge of fear and chaos. Discover how our self-awareness and intentional choices can ripple out to create a more compassionate and connected world. Learn how emotional contagion works, the difference between fear and love, and the small but significant ways we can embody calm to inspire change. Key Points: 1. Humanity's Great Leaps Forward From air travel to modern communication, history shows us how radical ideas often become everyday staples. Today, we are invited to make a different kind of leap, one that shifts us from fear-based systems to a consciousness rooted in love and compassion. 2. Emotional Contagion: The Power of Influence Our emotions are contagious, shaping the environments we enter. Fear spreads quickly and visibly, but love and calm, though quieter, have the power to influence and change our reality. When we embody calm, we ripple that effect outward, creating a positive impact on those around us. 3. The Two Camps: Fear vs. Love Fear manifests as greed, control, and division, while love camps with hope, kindness, and connection. Choosing love requires courage and self-awareness, but it allows us to dismantle fear-based patterns and build a foundation for peace and belonging. 4. Practices to Anchor Calm in Chaos - Self-Awareness: Recognize fear in your body and stay present instead of reacting. - Consumption Audit: Evaluate what you consume and ensure it nourishes your peace. - Gratitude for the Unseen: Honor those who quietly serve humanity with love and kindness. - Metta Meditation: Practice loving-kindness meditation to spread compassion within and beyond yourself. Quotes for Reflection: - “Fear barks for attention, but love quietly transforms the world.” - “The leap we're being invited to take isn't outward, it's into our own inner selves.” - “World peace begins with inner peace.” Call to Action: If this episode resonated with you, take a moment to reflect on what seeds you're planting in your daily life.
