POPULARITY
"My first thought was it would be challenging to compose a track. Field recording was recorded in north Macedonia. It's mainly speech, women and children voices inside home. There is also accordion very far in the background. They speak Macedonian language. It gave me the opportunity to read about this country where poverty rate is very high. My composition would be a little nostalgic, but not sad to match the intimate ambiance, and voices. "I didn't want to alter or mangle beautiful voices of kids and women (even if I don't understand Macedonian). "So I told me a little story to help me: Lets pretend some documentary film maker asked me to compose a theme tune for the end or opening credits. There is music over location sound of the imaginary film. "I've been working with a Digital Audio Workstation, recording, mixing and mastering. Doing field recordings myself, I am familiar with extracting sounds and cleaning them without too much alteration. I selected voices and ambient atmosphere. My additional elements were one of my music box sample, a dark synthesizer slow melody and some sampled piano notes. I tried to add a dreamy atmosphere." The Ohrid region, a gem of Macedonia, is defined by its serene lake and vibrant cultural heritage. Sitting in a lakeside bodega, I was enveloped by the gentle rhythm of daily life: the soft lapping of water, the murmurs of locals, and the occasional laughter of children. This timeless place is a reminder of life's simple yet profound beauty. Rita discussed the Gospel of Mark, chapter 4, verses 35-41, emphasizing the importance of paying attention to details and praying for others facing similar challenges. She also explored the concept of faith and trust in God, using the story of Jesus calming the storm as an example, and the dangers of acting on anger without Christ's guidance. Lastly, she highlighted the importance of experiencing miracles and trials firsthand to strengthen faith and understanding, and the need for active engagement with God to truly experience His love and miracles. 00:00 Paying Attention to Life's Details Rita, the host of the Catholic Girl on the Radio show, discussed the Gospel of Mark, chapter 4, verses 35-41. She emphasized the importance of paying attention to the details in life, even when they seem small or overlooked. She also highlighted the idea that we are not alone in our struggles, as others may be experiencing the same hardships. Rita encouraged listeners to pray not only for themselves but also for others around them, as exemplified by the disciples waking Jesus up to save themselves and others in their boat. 05:05 Jesus' Authority and Faith in God Rita discussed the story of Jesus calming the storm, emphasizing Jesus' confidence in God's plan and his role as both Master and Creator. She highlighted the importance of faith and trust in God, even in challenging times. 09:44 Anger, St. Augustine, and Holy Spirit Rita discussed the concept of anger and its effects on individuals, drawing from the wisdom of St. Augustine of Hippo. She likened anger to being battered by strong winds and tossed around by waves, emphasizing the danger of acting on these emotions without the guidance of Christ. Rita also mentioned the importance of waking up the Holy Spirit within oneself to avoid the "shipwreck of the soul." 13:11 Faith, Dependence, and God's Presence Rita discussed the importance of faith and dependence on God, using the story of Simon the Apostle standing on water as an example. She emphasized that God can provide strength and help in seemingly impossible situations, and that He wants to give us good things for our enjoyment and salvation. 17:06 Experiencing Miracles and Trials for Faith 19:49 Appreciating Miracles in Daily Life 24:13 Rita's Thoughts on God's Timing| 25:57 Jesus Calms the Storm in Faith
This episode of the Global Treasures Podcast will cover the Natural and Cultural Heritage of the Ohrid region, located in Albania. Known as having one of the deepest, oldest lakes in Europe and beautiful Byzantine churches, we discuss the history, travel tips and more.
In this episode we are excited to host Dime from Ohrid, North Macedonia. With his diverse background as a member of Hardfaced and Primitive Dread, as well as his extensive work as a tour manager for bands like Turnstile, since 2016, and, more recently, Speed, there's plenty to explore & talk about with him. Enjoy!
Hydrogen Utopia International PLC (LSE:HUI, OTCQB:HUIPF) CEO Aleksandra Binkowska joined Proactive's Stephen Gunnion with news that Ohrid Organics has secured a supply agreement with Canopy Growth, one of the world's largest cannabis companies. This agreement is a significant step as Hydrogen Utopia is in the process of acquiring a 49% stake in Ohrid Organics. Binkowska expressed her excitement about the progress, stating, "It shows that all the investment, all the hard work, all the months and months of blood, sweat and tears have come to pass." She emphasised that the strategic investment in Ohrid Organics aims to accelerate Hydrogen Utopia's core mission of developing a plastic waste-to-hydrogen plant. Binkowska highlighted the importance of this investment for both the company's future and the medicinal cannabis market. Binkowska also noted the growing demand for medicinal cannabis, particularly in Germany, where there is an 80% shortage in the market. This shortage underscores the critical need for Ohrid Organics' production capacity, which has recently expanded with the completion of its fifth and sixth greenhouses. Hydrogen Utopia International PLC (LSE:HUI, OTCQB:HUIPF) CEO Aleksandra Binkowska joined Proactive's Stephen Gunnion following the company's AGM held at Ohrid Organics in North Macedonia. Binkowska shared her excitement about the unique AGM location and the successful turnout, highlighting the significance of the medical cannabis tour. She also discussed Hydrogen Utopia's decision to proceed with the acquisition of a 49% stake in Ohrid Organics, emphasising the immense potential of the medical cannabis market, especially with the increasing demand in Europe. Binkowska detailed how the revenue from medical cannabis would fund the company's plans to build a plastic-to-hydrogen facility, potentially starting in North Macedonia due to favourable government support. She also touched on the decision to change auditors to RPG Crouch Chapman. A significant point of discussion was the company's halted transaction with Essential Energy, with Binkowska noting the learning experience gained from the process. Looking ahead, she expressed optimism about the growing interest from European countries in tackling plastic waste and advancing hydrogen production. Hydrogen Utopia International PLC (LSE:HUI, OTCQB:HUIPF) CEO Aleksandra Binkowska joined Proactive's Stephen Gunnion to discuss progress at the company's cannabis operation in Macedonia, highlighting two successful harvests and ongoing developments. Binkowska noted the company has a 49% option in Ohrid Organics, highlighting its impressive facilities and high-tech enhancements, including an advanced drying system that significantly improves product quality. Binkowska emphasized the importance of the location's natural benefits and technological enhancements for achieving high-quality outputs. Currently, Hydrogen Utopia is awaiting laboratory results to officially confirm the product quality, which is necessary for obtaining the requisite governmental paperwork for product sales. She mentioned preparations for EU GMP certification audits, which will facilitate entry into the European market at higher certification levels, potentially allowing for a higher product price point. Furthermore, Binkowska outlined the financial success of Ohrid Organics, projecting earnings that would fund Hydrogen Utopia's first waste plastics hydrogen facility. The profits from Ohrid could potentially finance this without additional capital raising, underscoring the strategic advantage of the investment. She also highlighted the supportive role of the Macedonian government in facilitating the company's initiatives in both the cannabis and hydrogen sectors. #HydrogenUtopiaInternational #Cannabis #Macedonia #CBD #EUGMP #Organix #THC #HydrogenEnergy #SustainableInvestment #AgriculturalTechnology #ProactiveInvestors #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews
Besa Luci in conversation with Adi Ćerimagić and Augustin Palokaj. In this episode, we talk about the Association of Serb-Majority Municipalities in Kosovo.Arising in 2013 as part of an agreement between Kosovo and Serbia within the EU-mediated dialogue, the Association was promoted as a way to convince Kosovo Serbs to fully enter the Kosovar system, ensure their cultural autonomy and end the Serbian state's parallel structures within Kosovo. Still unimplemented after a decade, it's long been causing controversy.Following the initial 2013 agreement and a follow-up in 2015, Kosovo erupted in political turmoil. For weeks, in both years, the Assembly was brought to a halt by the then-opposition party Vetëvendosje, who argued that the Association was a way for Serbia to undermine Kosovo's sovereignty. The 2015 protests initiated a review by the Constitutional Court, which paradoxically said that aspects of the guiding principles of the Association were not in accordance with the Constitution, but that it was nevertheless a legal obligation for Kosovo. This past March, a much-awaited meeting took place in Ohrid, where Kosovo and Serbia agreed to, but did not sign, the “European Plan” for normalizing relations. Observers paid the most attention to a particular article of the 11-point plan, which would require Kosovo “to ensure an appropriate level of self-management for the Serbian community in Kosovo,” and to do so in accordance with previously reached agreements.Critics of the Association see it as an additional level of governance, “a state within a state,” which will lead to the “bosnification” of Kosovo, referring to the Republika Srpska entity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, also an imposed creation of the international community. But details are still scarce, and no one seems to actually know what the Association will look like. Two guests discuss the competing narratives around the Association as well as what this process tells us about the region's relationship with the EU and international community at large.Augustin Palokaj is the Brussels correspondent for KOHA group and has been following the dialogue for over a decade. Adi Ćerimagić is a senior analyst at the European Stability Initiative, a European think tank developing policy ideas on South East Europe, asylum policy, human rights and democracy.Other Talking Points is produced by Besa Luci, Aulonë Kadriu and Gentiana Paçarizi.

This month host Dan Lucas, the Senior Director of Strategic Communication at US Chess, talks to high school students at the Catlin Gabel School in Portland, Oregon Seth Talyansky (18) and Avi Gupta (17) about how they are leveraging their state championship team's success to promote chess and support underserved communities. For example, the club hand-delivered chess sets to children in Chajul, Guatemala; donated chess clocks to a chess club in Ohrid, Macedonia; organized an online match with a high school chess club in Jackson, Mississippi; and traveled to Equatorial Guinea in western Africa to organize that nation's first open chess tournament. Talyansky is a US Chess National Master who has been the number-one ranked player in high school in Oregon since 2016 and was just named a U.S. Presidential Scholar. Gupta is the two-time Utah state champion in his age group and currently ranked number five in Oregon. He will be appearing on Teen Jeopardy the week of June 17.
In June 2015, a 21-year-old Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania man was arrested on charges of “bloodletting” and sexual assault. He allegedly not only convinced several underage victims to slice their wrists so he could drink their blood, he also engaged in intimate acts with a minor while they bled on each other from self-inflicted lacerations. It's a shocking case for a Pennsylvania town that's about as inclined to believe in vampires as it is the tooth fairy. But, it's a case that also, remarkably, demonstrates the eternal life of the vampire myth.In this episode, Stephanie tells the story of the surprising origins of vampiric legends and how they've changed through the centuries.*** NOTE! In Luke 13, Jesus heals a woman bent over for 18 years. Bringing in the commentary of St. Theophylact of Ohrid, Fr. Andrew Stephen Damick talks about how this woman is an image of our own souls and how we perceive what is heavenly.
It's our bonus holiday episode! Nestled in the mountains along the border of North Macedonia and Albania sits Lake Ohrid, a deep, blue lake as old as time. On its shores, in the town of Ohrid, Samuel, tsar of the First Bulgarian Empire, directed his kingdom's last hurrah against the mighty Roman Empire to his east. His opponent: Basil II, known now as the "Bulgar-Slayer." I guess you can figure out how this goes. Eric Halsey of the Bulgarian History Podcast gives his thoughts on Samuel and his brothers and the epic confrontation with Basil, while Allison Greene from Sofia Adventures and Eternal Arrival shares her experience of visiting Ohrid, whose Byzantine-era churches charm and whose lakeside boardwalk invigorates. And we talk about Macedonian food, including ayvar, a red pepper spread-slash-dip that pairs with everything. Sources: Crapton, RJ. A Concise History of Bulgaria Evans, Thammy. The Oratory: A School for the Lord's Service Each week on Friday at 6AM a few good men gather in an office chapel called the "Oratory" in Crawfordsville, Indiana for a particular agenda 1. We sing together the prayers of the First Hour 2. We read the scripture readings of the day 3. We read the daily entry from the Prologue of Ohrid including lives of the saints of the day, a Hymn of Praise, a Reflection and a Homily 4. We then have an accountability session where each of us shares a list of the things his has read, watched or listened to in the past week. If there's time we discuss whatever may be of interest. 5. As we depart, or end the recording, we read the Contemplation of the day from the Prologue and leave with that thought on our minds for the next few minutes.

Hi, from Macedonia! Today I’m chatting with my Airbnb host, Sofia Grozdanova, who’s become my Macedonian sister. I’m sharing her apartment in Skopje’s bohemian district and I feel so at home in her place and in this neighborhood. And her room is $12 a night. What?! If you’re new to Airbnb, take advantage of my friends and family discount. Sofia is from Skopje but she lived in New York for a few years, going to school and working. When she decided to come back to the Balkans, she was able to keep her job in NYC and now works remotely. So, she could work from anywhere but she chooses Skopje and in this episode we will discuss why, including all of her favorite places to eat and drink in Macedonia’s capital city, plus day trips such as the UNESCO town Ohrid. We’ll also talk about the crazy and corrupt Skopje 2014 redevelopment project, which has turned downtown into Vegas on steroids, and explain Macedonia’s (very controversial) potential name change.
