Guest post by Paul Grant, who is a serial entrepreneur, a leading expert on personality diversity and co-author of Personalities Remixed. In today's connected world, the ability to understand others isn't just a soft skill - it's a crucial part of effective leadership, communication, and collaboration. Tools such as the E-Colours and Personal Intervention offer practical frameworks that promote self-awareness, empathy, trust and stronger relationships. The E-Colours framework identifies four core personality styles; each linked to a colour: Red (Doer): Action-oriented, direct, decisive Yellow (Socialiser): Outgoing, enthusiastic, optimistic Blue (Relator): Loyal, caring, empathetic Green (Thinker): Analytical, detail-focused, cautious Personalities Remixed Most people have two dominant colours that shape how they think, act, and communicate. For example, a Red/Yellow may be fast-moving and persuasive but prone to overlook details. A Green/Blue, in contrast, might be detail focused and empathetic but hesitant in fast-changing situations. The power of this model lies in creating a nonjudgmental language for understanding differences. Instead of labelling behaviours as right or wrong, personality diversity helps teams recognise and value diverse strengths - and potential limiters. The Value of Personality Diversity When teams understand each how each other ticks, collaboration improves. For instance, a Red or Yellow manager may prefer quick decisions, while a Green or Blue employee might need time for planning. With mutual awareness, both can adjust their approach to work better together. This awareness reduces conflict and enhances communication. People stop reacting out of misunderstanding and start communicating with intention and respect. Personal Intervention: Pause Before You React Knowing personality styles is only part of the equation. Emotional intelligence also means managing your own behaviour - especially under stress. That's where Personal Intervention comes in. This tool encourages a pause before responding, helping individuals choose a thoughtful action instead of reacting impulsively. It involves three key steps: 1. Pause - Notice your emotional trigger. 2. Think - Consider what's driving your reaction. 3. Choose - Respond in a way that reflects your values and goals. For example, a Red leader receiving critical feedback might usually become defensive. With Personal Intervention, they pause, reflect, and choose a respectful, growth-minded response instead. This creates trust and psychological safety. Understanding yourself and others Building self-awareness, as well as awareness of those around you, is critical for mutually-respectful relationships. Understanding your own E-Colours helps you predict how you might behave under pressure. For example, a Red may dominate conversations, while a Blue might withdraw from conflict. Personal Intervention allows you to regulate those tendencies and choose more productive behaviours. Equally, knowing someone else's E-Colours helps you tailor your message. A Yellow speaking to a Green can slow down and focus on structure. A Blue communicating with a Red can be more direct while staying kind. When both parties use these tools, communication becomes intentional, respectful, and far more effective. Challenges and Culture Shift Though simple to understand, applying these tools consistently requires practice, reflection, and humility. People must be willing to confront potential limiters - like a Yellow's tendency to dominate conversations or a Green's hesitation to act. Importantly, our personality makeup should never be used as an excuse - 'That's just my Red!' - but as a guide for self-awareness and empathy. Success comes when the framework becomes embedded in daily culture through ongoing reinforcement. Conclusion Personality diversity is a strength, not a problem to solve. With E-Colours and Personal Intervention, individuals and teams gain practical tools to understand th...
Roy-G Biv Todays Mnemonic Everything is coming up?????-Alright, Grandpa Bill, let's weave this very personal and important detail into our discussion. It adds another layer of depth and relatability to my message of working with our bodies and minds, especially when facing unique challenges. Here's how we can build upon the mnemonic and memory palace.Building on my A-S-R, let's incorporate the specific experience of my left ear and the mastoid treatment history. Add a "L" for "Left Ear Legacy" and a "B" for "Better Still" to reflect the current improvement.L-A-S-R-B:Left Ear Legacy: Acknowledging the history of partial deafness due to the past mastoid treatment.Air Pressure Push: Remembering the sensation of the air during the recent procedure.Suction Sound Swirl: Recalling the sound of the suction in both ears.Ringing Release (with a lingering ring): Acknowledging the post-procedure ringing in the left ear, but emphasizing the overall improvement.Better Still: Highlighting the positive outcome and increased clarity despite the ringing. The Door (Air Pressure Push): Keep the gentle breeze, symbolizing the initial air sensation in both ears.MYFavorite Chair (Suction Sound Swirl): The swirling sound can still represent the suction in both ears. The Window (Ringing Release with a lingering ring): When you look out the window, the view is clearer overall, but perhaps I notice a faint, persistent shimmering or a subtle echo in the distance, representing the lingering ringing in my left ear.A Specific Object Near Your Chair (Left Ear Legacy): could be a small, slightly muted speaker, serving as a reminder of its unique journey.Looking Towards Another Part of the Room (Better Still): Shift my mental focus to another part of the room that feels brighter and clearer, symbolizing the overall improvement in my hearing.Workouts for Geriatrics: Grandpa Bill's Two-Ear Tale - Past Challenges, Present Clarity!Silver Streakers: My Left Ear's Journey - From Mastoid to Maybe More Hearing!Grandpa Bill's Holistic Hour: A Little Ringing, A Lot of Relief - My Earwax Expedition Continues!Hearing My Way Through It: Grandpa Bill's Update on Ear Health and Mineral Testing. The 1-92 Workout: Listen Closely! Now, as some of you know, when I was just a young whippersnapper of five, I had a mastoid treatment on this side. It wasn't entirely successful, and I've lived with partial hearing in my left ear ever since. So, going into this earwax removal, I had a little extra hope.Grandpa Bill: States="The procedure yesterday… well, it was interesting. I did notice a bit more ringing in my left ear afterward, that's for sure. But you know what? Even with that little serenade, I can honestly say it feels… better still! There's a clarity I haven't experienced in a good long while."Grandpa Bill: " updated memory tool is L-A-S-R-B. Left ear legacy, remembering its history. The familiar Air pressure push and Suction sound swirl. Then, Ringing release – yes, there's still a bit of a ring on the left, but overall, a release of pressure. And the most important part? Better still! In my mind's memory palace, near my comfy chair, I've placed a little old-fashioned speaker – a nod to my left ear's journey. But when I look towards the window, the view is brighter, clearer. That's the 'better still' feeling. And guess what's next in this health adventure? Blood work to check for any mineral deficiencies. We're leaving no stone unturned in this quest for feeling our best, mind and body!"

INTRODUCTIONNo, reusables are not just single-use items with a QR code slapped on to encourage reuse! True reusability starts with intentional design right from the beginning. That's exactly why it's so valuable to learn from Annie Legroulx, Director of Innovation at Cambium, based in Montréal. With her expertise in designing and distributing eco-friendly takeout solutions, she has firsthand experience navigating the challenges of transitioning from single-use to reuse systems. In this episode, we'll explore:Why eco-design must balance standardization with adaptability for different food applications. How a local supplier can play a key role in overcoming challenges such as condensation, traceability, and procurement hurdles. And what a well-thought-out end-of-life approach should involve, whether your packaging is recyclable or compostable.I admire Annie's dedication to collaborating with diverse stakeholders to address real-world needs. Her pragmatic and grounded view of reuse—as part of a necessary transition that still leaves room for certain single-use applications—feels refreshingly practical and actionable.RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODEThe initial burning question came from Evelio in episode 29 “The impact of eye-catching packaging design as well as hidden structural design”: https://www.look4loops.com/packaging-podcast/ep29-user-experience-structural-design-luxury-tertiary Check out the result of Annie's Apple Packaging Reuse project “White Box Lab” on this instagram account she had created for it: https://www.instagram.com/whiteboxlab/ Annie loved the series with Mme & M Recyclage: feel free to listen to them as well in episodes 28, 33, 35, 37, 39, 41 and 43.One of Cambium's main partners is an organization dedicated to the eco-responsible transition of cafes and restaurants and is called “La vague”: https://www.la-vague.ca/. He is also recognized for his public speaking engagements worldwide, where he shares insights on improving packaging design. Adam Peek: Adam Peek has been a prominent figure in the packaging industry for 17 years, engaging in packaging procurement, design, and sales. Adam hosts a podcast dedicated to packaging, conducted a TED talk on the subject, and authored a children's book about packaging, solidifying his role as an influencer in the packaging community. Join Evelio Mattos and Adam Peek as they delve into the fascinating world of cereal packaging on this episode of Packaging Unboxed. From the supermarket aisles to the intricate design choices made by brands, they explore what makes cereal packaging effective and where there's room for improvement. The conversation transitions from the overwhelming conformity found in cereal aisles to innovative ideas that can break the traditional packaging mold. Evelio and Adam discuss their recent visits to supermarkets like Kroger and AJ's, and the ubiquitous sea of yellow that dominates the cereal section. They analyze packaging designs of well-known brands, contemplating standout features and missed opportunities for differentiation. With a focus on SEO keywords such as "cereal packaging design," "supermarket aisle strategies," and "consumer engagement," they provide actionable insights for both established brands and new entrants in the cereal market. The current state of cereal packaging is largely uniform, with a dominant presence of yellow and similar design templates across brands. Innovative packaging ideas, such as more interactive labels or QR codes, can create a competitive edge by enhancing consumer engagement. Evaluating other aisles and products for packaging inspiration may reveal opportunities to stand out from the traditional cereal box approach. Sustainability and efficiency also play key roles, with a shift towards bulk buying and flexible bags offering potential benefits. While strong brand recognition can sometimes overshadow poor design choices, continuous packaging innovation remains crucial for market success. "There's a tremendous amount of conformity in the cereal aisle and not a lot of brands that were doing things to stand out." — Adam Peek "You really have to consider all these little details because this is what makes your packaging stand out." — Evelio Mattos "Why does the brand that's crappy for you have all the fun in the packaging?" — Evelio Mattos "Creating shareable moments, creating games, creating all that stuff is already happening." — Adam Peek "Getting on shelf isn't the goal. You got to move through a product." — Evelio Mattos Adam Peek on TED Magic Spoon Cereal For an in-depth understanding of sustainable packaging, check GreenBlue's Sustainable Packaging Coalition. In this lively packaging-focused episode from September 9, three leading voices in the field—Evelio Mattos, Cory Connors, and Adam Peek—share the latest trends and controversies in the world of packaging. Cory Connors, known for his "Sustainable Packaging Podcast," and Adam Peek from "People of Packaging Podcast," join Evelio Mattos, host of "Packaging Unboxed," to explore hot topics in the industry, including a lawsuit against Hershey's and Capri Sun's bold marketing moves. The episode kicks off with some light-hearted banter before diving into the main stories. The discussion on Hershey's addresses a significant lawsuit about misleading packaging, where the trio debates the expectations versus reality in product presentation. They express concerns over what a ruling in favor of the plaintiff might imply for the broader packaging industry. Following that, the hosts turn their attention to Capri Sun, spotlighting Capri Sun's experiment with selling entire pallets directly to consumers and their controversial switch to plastic bottles from their iconic pouches. The hosts examine the marketing genius behind such moves and their implications for the brand and consumers. Lawsuit Against Hershey's: The hosts discuss the $5 million lawsuit against Hershey's for allegedly misleading packaging of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups during Halloween. They emphasize the importance of accurate product representation to avoid legal repercussions and maintain consumer trust. Capri Sun's Marketing Strategy: Capri Sun's decision to sell pallets of pouches and the introduction of plastic bottles spark a debate. The move is seen as a brilliant marketing strategy despite its potential environmental impact. Sustainable Packaging Innovations: Cory Connors talks about upcoming discussions at the London Packaging Week on maintaining high-end packaging while ensuring sustainability. Specific innovations include Bailey's paper bottles and Guinness' recyclable nitro injectors. Consumer Expectations and Packaging Design: The episode highlights the need for brands to consider consumer perceptions and potential legal vulnerabilities when designing packaging. Networking in Packaging: Adam Peek underscores the importance of leveraging social networks to solve industry challenges, citing his recent experiences with Western Michigan University and Green Blue. Cory Connors: "I think they aren't very accurate as to the description on the packaging. They're kind of more of a ghost-shaped blob of chocolate and peanut butter goodness." Adam Peek: "It would be insane for somebody to be like, I am suing Project Hive Pet Company because this did not contain any of these actual berries." Evelio Mattos: "If you're out there, if you're designing packaging and you're putting your product on there, consider stupid people. Right. You've got to design for the stupid." Cory Connors: "How can packaging be sustainable and still be desirable by our customers? That's exactly the kind of topic I enjoy." Adam Peek: "It's crazy how when you're unafraid to just ask questions, you can build a network so that you can get these questions answered really quickly." Stay tuned for more insightful episodes featuring the latest trends, debates, and innovations in the packaging industry. Tune in next week to hear about Cory's experiences at London Packaging Week and Adam's presentation at Label Expo. Monk Parakeets, also known as Argentine Parrots, are native to South America but have become popular as pets – thanks in part to their intelligence and ability to mimic human speech. But in some areas, such as Mexico, these birds have become invasive. After being released or escaping, some Monk Parakeets have formed feral populations that have quickly spread, competing with native bird species for resources.More info and transcript at BirdNote.org. Episode 78 Maura Murray 21 year old Maura Murray vanished on the night of February 9, 2004 after her car slid off the road on Rt. 112 in Haverhill, New Hampshire. More than one of the residents living near that area reported the crash to police who quickly responded to the scene. The witnesses saw a young woman, presumed to be Maura, on foot near the crashed car. She appeared to be physically okay, but by the time police arrived minutes later, Maura was gone. Extensive searches of the snow covered area failed to lead searchers to Maura, and she's been missing ever since. Police discovered open containers of alcohol in Maura's Black Saturn when they searched the scene following her accident. They theorized that she had been drinking while driving and crashed as a result. When they began to look at Maura's actions and movements leading up to her disappearance, it only led to more questions. Maura, had been a track star, and a cadet at the prestigious West Point Academy. She was in a long distance relationship with her fiance. On the surface, it seemed as if Maura had a bright future, but below the surface, it appears as if Maura was struggling. She had left West Point after shoplifting some items, and had confided in her sister that she was struggling with alcohol. Maura attempted to pick up the pieces, and enrolled at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, where she decided to pursue a career in nursing. Police learned that early on the day she vanished, Maura had emailed her professors telling them that there was a death in her family, and that she'd be leaving campus for a week; something that was not true. From there, Maura placed a call to the owner of a condominium in Bartlett, NH, which is a place that was special to Maura and that she had spent time at in the past with her family. That afternoon, Maura packed a bag with makeup, school books, and several days' worth of clothes, and set out in her car. She stopped at an ATM and withdrew $280 in cash before buying $40 worth of alcohol. Just before 7:30 that night, police were called to the scene of her accident where they found her abandoned car. What happened to Maura Murray? Was her disappearance connected to struggles she seemed to be dealing with leading up to her disappearance, or did she meet with foul play following her accident? Did she wander off from the scene, and pass away due to the WInter conditions and her remains were somehow missed in searches? There has been no shortage of speculation about Maura's fate. Her case has been the focus of podcasts, tv shows, books, and online forum discussions, yet despite all the attention on Maura's case, it remains an unsolved mystery. When she vanished, Maura Murray was described as being a White Female with light Brown hair, and Green/Blue eyes. She stood 5ft7 and weight 120-125 pounds. GreenBlue is an environmental non-profit that focuses on the sustainable use of materials in society, encompassing all types of materials. However, because there is such a demand for jobs in that field, Under the umbrella of GreenBlue, one of them is the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (or SPC), a membership-based collaborative dedicated to everyone throughout the packaging value chain, from brands and retailers to packaging converters and materials suppliers to governmental academic members, to bring together all of those different members of the supply chain and value chain to talk about some of these challenging issues. On this episode, we'll talk about:What is the overall mission of each? There was a lot of collaboration between members of the packaging value chain, which seemed to be a trend for the event. Is it something she's noticed as well? How much has changed since SPC's membership has grown? Are there still sectors or areas that she sees as underrepresented where SPC feels like we need to get some of those people at the table? Was there one that kind of stood out to her as an example of a great benefit or an idea where there was this great collaboration between companies that produced something innovative and exciting? With all of this business collaboration, what role does the SPC play, and how are you becoming involved? So, with all of the misinformation, confusion, and need for education, if she could simply snap her fingers and the entire world would understand this about sustainable packaging, what is the best thing she can think of? or maybe she wishes everyone knew about? The differences and challenges with the single stream of recycling collection points that we have in the United States vs Europe? What are her views on molecular, chemical, and advanced recycling? Is it a good thing? Is it a potential solution for a lot of these recycling problems?Which business or what business should consider joining the SPC if they're not members yet?How did Karen Hagerman manage to go from the United States Naval Academy to the Director of the SPC?Looking back on her time as a marine in the Navy, are there any characteristics or lessons she learned that she is implementing for SPC?Karen Hagerman is the Director of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC) at GreenBlue. Karen holds a BS in Aerospace Engineering from the United States Naval Academy. Today's Song of the Day is "Moving On" from Green/Blue's album, Paper Thin, out now.Green/Blue will be performing at Hook and Ladder on Wednesday, September 21st.
The investment industry is one that can be full of mysteries for "outsiders". It is important not to discount the role that this industry and investors play in this ciris-rattled world, after all, behind every dirty project there is a dirty investment thus, behind every well-intentioned investment, there is a purpose, an impact. Pascal Botteron is the CEO of Green Blue Invest, a company that acts as an investment advisor solely focused on ESG (Environmental, social & governance) products. From biodiversity funds, to solar panels and investments into vegan ventures there is much that can be invested in. It is very important to change the narrative since the ones ruling the market are still "traditional investments", synonymous with the fossil fuel industry. Pascal believes that governance is a way to change the scenario. That a company which has good governance will have better social and environmental ranking and that this is also a way for governments to incentivize 'sustainable investing' instead of short-term, destructive hunts for profit. He also tells us how to identify greenwashing and how it is identified at Green Blue with the help of a 8,000 word encyclopedia to detect the sincerity of a company via analyzing the language that they are using to communicate about their services and products. ""Sustainable investing is not niche, but there is an urgency." ~ Pascal Botteron Visit Green Blue Invest here to find out more
In this Episode we sit down with Dr. Aneil Tripathy, PhD, to talk green, blue, and other social sustainable bonds and their potential impacts on development and climate financing - especially in the global south. Dr. Tripathy is a cultural anthropologist working in the field of climate bonds. Listen with us as he breaks down colonialism and debt, the impact of ESG bonds on SMEs and NGOs, and discusses the impact of the Ukrainian- Russian conflict on the Green climate financial market and the EU's green energy transition trajectory.
“I think believing in something is also part of the responsibility of the believer to sift through these things. So there are a lot of people saying I'm green because they do something less badly. So for me, it's not green yet, it's just less bad. It's not really good yet. It's not really fabulous, but that just means there's an opportunity to keep going to share information and help each other because in the end, I think what we're dealing with now is the recognition that the world has a very serious issue with climate, that's very clear now. So how can we help each other? The question is no longer what is wrong with the way you're doing it. The real question now is how can I help you?”McDonough advises leaders on ESG strategies through McDonough Innovation, is an architect with William McDonough + Partners, and provides product assessments through MBDC, the creators of the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Products Program.
