This person died in 2017 at age 80. At age 17, she was hired to appear in a series of commercials for Hotpoint appliances.  In 1980 she won a Golden Globe, and she was nominated for an Academy Award. In 1984, She entered the Betty Ford Center for treatment. She was a key inspiration for forming the character of Liz Lemon – the television writer portrayed by Tina Fey on the sitcom “30 Rock.” Her 1970s self-titled TV show was a balm to widespread anxieties about women in the workforce. Her character faced such issues as equal pay, birth control, and sexual independence. Today's dead celebrity is Mary Tyler Moore. As I struggle with 2020 tech, the Great British public were struggling with theirs, getting to know their first radio sets in Sept/Oct 1922, at the First All-British Wireless Exhibition and Convention (FABWEAC, for short). So this time, hear the sights, smell the sounds and meet the artistes, such as singer and future radio boss Rex Faithful, first pianist of the BBC Maurice Cole and first broadcast royal, the Prince of Wales (before he regenerated into Edward VIII). The Secrets of Marketing to Millennials Marketing to Millennials is vital to many businesses. Millennials are defined by when they were born. Millennials would have been born between 1984 and 2000. So, currently they are aged between 18 and 35years. For Graham and Kevin, they have children in this age bracket. They are all Millennials. The Arrowsmith Millennials Luke (30), Sophie (27) and Nathan (23) are all Millennials. It's Not Just Marketing to Millennials Clare Taylor makes the point that Marketing to Millennials is not just about Marketing to Millennials. It is about marketing to the generations around them - like their downtrodden parents! There will be things that parents of Millennials will do now, that have been affected by the buying behaviour of Millennials. Our behaviour will have been changed by the different ways that our children behave (i.e. using WhatsApp for one in our family). Although Marketing to Millennials is important, it is also about marketing to all generations that have been changed because of how the Millennials buy. About Clare Taylor She's not a Millennial! Nor did she come down with yesterday's rain! She has been in marketing for over 20 years. Clare started her business life working for Hotpoint. There, she focused on brands and marketing communications. Clare also did a stint at Mamas and Papas, a manufacturer and retailer, heading retail marketing  in up to 50 stores. This experience allowed Clare to understand retail marketing. She has worked for ForgetMeNot Children's Hospice, a charity in Yorkshire. Then she joined Gary King (a previous podcast guest) and Mike Hall at Think Smart Marketing. In 2018, she was awarded Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. A really important moment for Clare. Marketing to Millennials - By 2020 By 2020, Millennials will represent 50% of the workforce. if you want your business to succeed, you need to market to Millennials. Their current market size is £1.2 Trillion. A huge market potential. But they impact all generations. That is why it is important to understand them. Kevin pointed out that many Millennials have left University with large student debts, so is it really true that they have huge spending power? What Matters to Millennials? Millennials grew up during the recession. They have lived through that period And will know something about the restrictions that placed on many families. They do have student loans. The generation just before didn't have university fees. So some Millennials are struggling to get on the housing ladder. Therefore, VALUE is really important to them. They are really careful and considered in their purchases. They buy into brands that deliver them that value they are seeking. That is when recommendations and reviews and trials are all really important before they buy into a brand. Social Matters They are the first generation that truly engaged social media. 62% are really engaged on social media. Its all about talking, engaging and sharing. Sharing views, blogs, thoughts. This is important about buying behaviour. They have to believe what they told. 32% of Millennials are influenced by recommendations, blogs and reviews. Only 3% are influenced by advertising. Advertising to them is not authentic. They are interested in their peer's views. They won't be wooed by TV advertising. Older people weren't able to form these views. We had magazines, but not these websites that enabled you to share. It was magazines that shaped influence. Now there are a plethora of sites that allow reviews. More Things that Matter Only 1% of Millennials click on sponsored links. They'd rather go and seek out your product. They like personal experience. Know their likes and dislikes, to be able to personalise the experience. They like to feel that you value them, their likes and dislikes and personal experiences. Know your data to personalise the experience. ETHICS.

This week on StoryWeb: The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Who could turn the world on with her smile? Mary Tyler Moore, of course! Those of us who loved Mary Tyler Moore and her pioneering work as an actress and comedian were not surprised to hear of her passing last week – but we were sad nevertheless. Moore, who was 80 when she died, had fought Type 1 diabetes and its complications since she was 33. Moore’s television career started with her role as “Happy Hotpoint,” a dancing elf on Hotpoint appliance commercials that ran during the Ozzie and Harriet TV series. She also had minor roles in television and movies during the 1950s. Moore’s big breakthrough came in her role as Laura Petrie, wife to comedy writer Robert Petrie, on The Dick Van Dyke Show. As the show ran from 1961 to 1996, Moore became as famous for her portrayal of the dancer-turned-homemaker as she did for her fashion sense. Her form-fitting capri pants quickly became iconic, just as popular as Jackie Kennedy’s dresses. But it was as TV newsroom associate producer Mary Richards that Mary Tyler Moore really made her mark. I was hooked from the first episode, which aired in 1970 when I was ten years old. I can vividly recall watching that episode in my parents’ bedroom, where the extra TV was kept. My parents were watching something else out in the living room, but I had the good sense to be watching the premiere of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, which had been advertised heavily in the weeks leading up to its debut. I remember laughing out loud at Mr. Grant’s grilling of Mary during her job interview. I laughed so hard, in fact, that my mother came to see what was going on. Eventually, I convinced my parents to watch the show as well. Saturday nights would never be the same. Like many girls and women across the United States, I loved everything that Mary represented. She was single and independent. She worked in the male-dominated world of TV news. And she had a way-too-groovy apartment. I grew into adolescence with Mary Tyler Moore, and I set my sights on the life she led. I longed to be a writer and live on my own – and there on TV was Mary Richards, making it after all. My dear friend Jennifer Soule and I share a lifelong love of all things Mary Tyler Moore. In addition to visiting her Minneapolis haunts on one weekend getaway (complete with throwing our hats up in the air on a downtown street), we were also fortunate enough to meet her. Moore’s ancestors were among the early residents of Shepherdstown, West Virginia, where Jennifer and I taught at Shepherd College. Moore’s great-great-great-grandfather, Conrad Shindler, owned a house on German Street (the main street in Shepherdstown). Like most of the other buildings in Shepherdstown, Shindler’s house took in wounded Confederate soldiers during 1862’s Battle of Antietam (across the Potomac River in Sharpsburg, Maryland). In 1995, Mary Tyler Moore donated the house to Shepherd College for use as the George Tyler Moore Center for the Study of the Civil War. Of course, that meant that Moore needed to visit Shepherdstown to dedicate the house. She spoke at Shepherd’s 1996 commencement, hosted a signing of her autobiography, After All, in the Shindler house, and graced a reception at an estate outside of town. You can be sure that Jennifer, her mother, Leone, and I took every opportunity to meet and talk with Mary Tyler Moore. When it was my turn to have my book signed, I worked up my courage and said, “I know you probably hear this from women across the country, but you were my role model. You made me see that a life as a single, independent, career woman was possible.” She smiled and graciously said, “Yes, I do hear that often, but it means so much every time.” So much has been written about Mary Tyler Moore and her show, but I’ll just point you to a few resources. A thorough history of the show is available in Jennifer Keishin Armstrong’s book Mary and Lou and Rhoda and Ted: And All the Brilliant Minds Who Made The Mary Tyler Moore Show a Classic. In her reflections on Mary Tyler Moore, Jane Pauley pays tribute to Mary Richards as her role model. Two New York Times features examine Moore’s impact on 1970s fashion and The Mary Tyler Moore Show “look.” “Sex and That ‘70s Single Woman” looks at the ways The Mary Tyler Moore Show addressed social issues of the day. The Washington Post points to “Five Ways The Mary Tyler Moore Show Revolutionized Women on Television,” and the LA Times tells the story of the show’s theme song, “Love Is All Around.” Video clips from an interview with Moore are available at the Archive of American Television. Numerous articles from The New York Times – published throughout her career as well as after her death – are available in a special collection. Ian Fraser Kilmister nació en la Nochebuena de 1945 en Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Inglaterra.Cuando tenía tres meses de edad, su padre, un ex capellán de la Royal Air Force, se separó de su madre. Su madre y su abuela se establecieron en Newcastle-under-Lyme, otra zona adyacente a Stoke on Trent, para luego mudarse a Madeley (Staffordshire). Cuando Ian contaba nueve años, su madre se casó con George Willis, quien tenía dos hijos mayores de un matrimonio previo, Patricia y Tony, con quienes nunca pudo llevarse bien. Todavía son idiotas, ¡son idiotas muertos! ...
