Where Medicine Meets Ministry: Dr. Sheri Talks Faith & Facts

In this episode we cover:How to get clear, get confident, and get movingIn order to move forward, you must look back. Fingerprints leave clues. Touch the walls to identify what is holding you back. How Yalonda's journey to Jamacia was where she discovered her “Born for More”Determination may be in your DNA; Learn how to take advantage of every opportunity that comes your wayAre you living in a prison caused by you living out a pattern that was never designed for you to live?Yalonda Haywood, “The Breakout Expert”, is a wife, mother, minister, author, speaker, and business-life coach. As a child, she was creatively gifted and always knew she was meant for more. After finishing high school, she went on to pursue undergraduate studies in pre-nursing and business. Following a path that was normal and expected, she furthered her studies, securing a master's degree in business and went on to build a great corporate career in information technology. As a top leader, she developed enterprise departments that supported projects upwards of $600 million dollars. While she was busy building “a life”, she somehow found herself imprisoned to invisible walls that were holding her back from standing in her truth and living “the life” she was created to live. Layer by layer she broke out of fears, disappointments, expectations, limiting belief systems, the need for validation, and other toxic thoughts and behaviors. On the other side of the breakout was freedom like never before. It was there that she owned and stood in her truth as she vowed to use her gifts and grace to help others break free and stand in theirs.Through her coaching programs and unique T.R.U.T.H.™ and I.M.P.A.C.T.™ systems, Yalonda coaches others to break down invisible walls so that they can get what they really want out of life. She is on a mission to transform millions of lives as she encourages others to take off their mask and own the truth of who they are. Her genuine spirit inspires, ignites and impacts others in an unforgettable way.  She truly believes when the walls come down, peace, joy, and prosperity will come in. Hello Everyone! Welcome back for a special two-hour Friday edition of Kickin It Stateside! The Olympics that were rescheduled from last year kicked off earlier this morning from Tokyo but our USWNT already had a match this week which saw them lose to Sweden 3-0. Yes, we all know the USWNT has dominated the Women's soccer game for years now. So, was this just a lack of focus and a one-off game or should we be concerned over that poor performance? Let's talk about it. Our beloved USMNT on the other hand won the group and has booked a date with Jamacia on Sunday in the Quarterfinals of the Gold Cup! Can the new and improved Reggae Boyz upset the Young Yanks on our home soil? Can the mediocre play from Mexico get them into the Semi-Finals or does Honduras have other plans? Also, who is the favorite in Costa Rica vs Canada?Lastly, we will look around the world of soccer as transfer season is heating up! The even better news is that the Premier League is only three weeks away! Can Jadon Sancho make an immediate impact at Manchester United? Or will he be another forgotten player on the United bench? Also, the MLS is in full swing! We will peek at the table and give any updates on which teams we like to make a run during the final few months of the season. And last but not least our Red Card- Yellow Card segment. See who we put on notice!

Interview with Cham

We had the pleasure of interviewing Cham over Zoom video! Having amassed success spanning over three decades for his pioneering milestones and culturally-shaping achievements in the space of Dancehall, Reggae, Hip Hop, and more, Cham (p.k.a Baby Cham) has crafted an undisputable legacy that remains peerless to the greatest in class. Today the multi Grammy Award-nominated, internationally acclaimed artist unleashes the highly anticipated visual to his fiery single “Lock Down.” Lock Down takes on its masterful flare from the Clockwork Riddim, which is produced by eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt. Bolt, in a few short years, has shown that there is nothing off the table for him, and that success follows in every endeavor as long as passion is upheld. WATCH “LOCK DOWN” HERE “Lock Down” find the dancehall legend in his element, spitting fiery, conscious-rooted lyrics over iconic bass-knocking beats made to uplift and rejoice. Cham encapsulates what life has been like in Jamaica for almost two years in a cinematically emotive way, using the extraordinary natives of Jamacia as leading stars for his genius real & raw storytelling.ABOUT CHAM The rich, bass-laced, fast-paced world of dancehall music means only the best of the best survive. Not many can go through a name change and still remain relevant. Many would say that even less can manage to take a break, tour the world and return to the scene to command an audience like never before. Clearly, you've never met the Grammy-nominated dancehall-superstar that is Cham. Having started in the music business by watching artists like John Wayne and Super Cat rehearse on his uncle's Waterhouse-based sound system, Studio Mix, Cham doesn't look at his musical career as a ‘job'. He has all right to, though. With his unmistakable voice and remarkable stage presence, Cham has made his name in dancehall all over the world.  He first emerged on the dancehall kaleidoscope in the mid-1990s, making tracks on various juggling riddims including the immortal Showtime Riddim which spawned his hit Galang Gal. Then, in 2000, under the moniker Baby Cham, gave the world his debut album Wow: The Story, and hits such as Many Many, Boom Tune, Man & Man and more. The formula of Cham's deep baritone voice and rustic, lyrically lethal tracks made sure that he would stake his claim in the annals of music history. While musical naysayers continued yapping about the limited potential of dancehall, Cham's crossover hit Vitamin Sstruck a nerve… with the world. The song was perfect. Vitamin S racked up uncountable hours on disc jock turntables around the world, and led the artiste, whose real name is Damian Beckett, to a deal with Atlantic Records, where he joined fellow Jamaican Sean Paul and American rap stars like Lil' Kim and Fat Joe.  His loyalty to Jamaica and Jamaica's culture never faded, and his goal was always to bring dancehall music to international ears. In fact, Cham can be quoted as saying, many years ago, that he wants Madhouse Productions to be an international household name. It came as no surprise when Cham and Madhouse worked together to produce Ghetto Story, his biggest hit to date. The song hit at the end of 2005, and again, Cham took over the world. The song was a narrative of the rough and rugged life Cham overcame to become the man he is today, through the thick and thin of some of Jamaica's toughest garrison communities and streets.  Having put the song into perspective and silencing all naysayers yet again, Cham went a step further and attracted none other than Alicia Keys to remix the now worldwide hit single. The world waited on bated breath for the release of Ghetto Story's official video, and again the world watched in awe as Cham sent dancehall music to new heights, shattering glass ceilings on the way to the top. But that wasn't the first time Cham's unmistakable style and voice ended up on a track with an international artist. His list of collaborations includes Foxy Brown, M.I.A., Nina Sky, Mario and more. But for Cham, it's not about the accolades and the egos.  Having amassed many more international smash singles over the year such as the high-tempo, club-rocking hits Wine, That Way and Tun Up, Back Way and more places Cham's versatility as an artist on display for the world to see across an array of generations. We want to hear from you! On this week’s show I am talking to Derrick Evans, AKA Mr Motivator, who many of you will remember from his lycra clad TV workouts in the 1990s. As well as his TV work, Mr Motivator has sold millions of workout DVDs, run an eco-tourism resort in Jamacia and has now turned his attention to "the forgotten groups" with the launch of his ‘Mr Motivator Club’ here in Ireland. The Club is suitable for people of all ages, fitness levels and abilities. Mr Motivator tells me he is a firm believer in making exercise enjoyable, ‘I want people to understand if exercise isn’t fun don’t do it...the only muscle that should ache after exercise is your laughter muscle. And if it’s not aching there’s something wrong with the teacher.’ At 68-years-old Derrick has impressive keep fit regime of his own; ‘every day I do 68 press-ups – one for each year of my life. I have no intention of getting “old”’ Through sheer perseverance Derrick managed to secure a slot as GMTV's fitness guru in 1993. ‘I knew there was a gap in the market and that ITV needed someone like me on TV, so I kept going down to the ITV studios and insisting that they give me a chance. At first the advertisers didn’t want a black man, they wanted a white lady with two kids. But I persevered, and that was that.’ ‘The Real Health podcast is in association with Laya Healthcare’

Welcome to the radio magazine that brings you news, commentary and analysis from a Black Left perspective. I'm Margaret Kimberley, along with my co-host Glen Ford. Coming up: the prolific radical professor Joy James speaks out on decolonizing the Black movement in the United States. Dr. James urges activists to condemn the militarization of US African policy, as well as militarized policing in Black communities in this country. And, Great Britain, which grew rich through centuries of global looting and mass enslavement, is now eager to deport thousands of Black residents as morally unfit to reside in the United Kingdom. But first – the United States and Europe are the wealthiest nations in the world, but have done very poorly in coping with the year-long Covid-19 epidemic. So have most of the former white settler colonies of Latin America. Layla Brown-Vincent is a professor of Africana Studies at the University of Massachusetts, at Boston, and author of a recent article titled, “The Pandemic of Racial Capitalism: Another World is Possible.” She says that Cuba showed, early in the epidemic, that its practice of socialist internationalist medicine is the global gold standard. That was Dr. Layla Brown-Vincent, speaking from the University of Massachusetts, at Boston. In celebration of International Women's Day, the Decolonial Feminist Collective recently hosted an online interview with Dr. Joy James, the prolific author and Professor of Humanities at Williams College. The talk was entitled, “Radicalizing and Decolonizing Feminism.” Dr. James says the subject has revolutionary roots. Dr. Joy James was interviewed by Jalessah T. Jackson, and Salome Ayuak, of the Decolonial Feminist Collective. Around the turn of the 21 st century, Great Britain began a wave of deportations of Black residence with roots in Jamacia and other former colonies in the Caribbean. Luke De Noronha, a writer who teaches at the University of Manchester, is author of the book, “Deporting Black Britons: Portraits of Deportation to Jamaica.” According to De Noronha, the British government claims it is only ridding itself of “foreign criminals.”

Through this change in mindset and nutrition, Shanique has stopped letting food control her and now works with her clients to promote being kind to your body while still fueling yourself with healthy decisions. Live Life Unrestricted Shanique is determined to help you live your life with more ease and enjoyment. She believes that movement should be one of the things that bring you satisfaction and joy and that counting calories or setting limits for yourself is the opposite of achieving total body health and acceptance.  Learn from Shanique’s story as she reveals what she wishes she knew in hindsight, how being less restrictive can actually lead to greater holistic health benefits, and why we should stop judging those that go against societies version of ‘healthy’. There are more aspects to your wellness than just eating clean and exercising, and Shanique is living proof of the importance of making these healthy tools accessible to everyone. By creating a community where people are empowered to take the steps for themselves, you can invest in yourself and foster acceptance from within.   Are you ready to change the conversation regarding fitness and find more enjoyment in your daily routine? John Grogan, a metropolitan columnist at The Philadelphia Inquirer, and his wife, Jenny, were newlyweds when they brought home an irresistible yellow Labrador retriever puppy and named him after a mellow reggae star. But Marley soon would grow into a 97-pound powerhouse of nervous, pulsating intensity and mischief. Marley, the incorrigible, excitable, destructive, and intensely loyal creature that graced the Grogan home for thirteen years, was not the mellow, well-behaved pet his owners had envisioned. His slobber was legendary, his manners appalling, and his fear of thunderstorms expensive. He decimated walls, screen doors, car upholstery, and dinner parties. Evan as the Grogans tried everything to mold him to their will, Marley, with his utter devotion and unharnessed zeal for life, helped shape them into the family they would become. He was kicked out of obedience training, and the veterinarian prescribed tranquilizers to no effect. But his heart was pure. As he crashed through life, he taught two newlyweds about faithfulness and commitment, two parents about patience and perseverance, and a five-person family about the greatest gift of all- the gift of unconditional love. Award-winning journalist John Grogan is a columnist with the Philadelphia Inquirer and former metropolitan columnist and urban-sprawl reporter for the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. He is also a former editor of the magazine Organic Gardening. He lives with his family in Pennsylvania.

How fast can the fastest human being run?  We know that Usain Bolt of Jamacia ran at a top speed of  27.78 miles per hour (44.72 km/h) between the 60 to 80 meter segment of the 100 meter sprint in 1.61 seconds on August 16th, 2009 at the Berlin World Championships.   But what I want to know, is how fast could the fastest human being ever really run.  I’m not talking about Usain...the guy is amazing...but we are human beings, and we have evolved with this particular physicolgy.  What would it take for one of us to run the fastest that is possible as a member of our species? It turns out that, according to the latest science, there are two contending factors which affect the speed of human beings: first the amount of force that our bodies can handle as we smash our limbs upon the ground, and second the speed at which our muscles can contract and pull on our tendons.  Only one of these is the primary factor, and it will become obvious as we go through the science which matters most. We need to consider the mechanics here to come up with a theoretical limit to human speed, and as we do you need to keep Usain Bolt’s 28 miles per hour in mind. This is an episode about the theoretical limits to the speed of a human being. The answer to “How Fast Can We Run”, as a species, may surprise you!
