This episode I'm joined by James Cain as we discuss the highly debated murder of Christopher Wallace aka Biggie Smalls. Caught up in the East Coast vs West Coast feud with his former friend 2pac Shakur, other factor at play were involved and possibly lead to his death at the age of 24. Crips and Blood gang members are part of the hip hop culture, but what happens when they are part of law enforcement and linked to a cover up for murder!
Heads and Tales blurbHeads and Talestext and drawings by Jim StovallIn his forward to this book, Ed Caudill says:"Jim Stovall writes in the introduction that he is “trying to caricature people.” He succeeds, perhaps ironically in light of the fact that writers themselves are inevitably – sometimes tragically, sometimes commendably, usually unintentionally – caricaturing culture. This collection careens along the gamut from rich and famous to downtrodden and obscure. Some of them, the readers will know. Others, I would take long odds, are unheard of among the perusers of this volume. There any number of lesser knowns whose names are fleeting but whose work is durable, whether in politics, letters, sciences, or elsewhere. Some are masters of other media, such radio or cinema or illustration."Jim Stovall is a former journalism professor who writes and draws obsessively and occasionally inflicts his work onto an unsuspecting and largely undeserving public.

Carnegie has his name on a lot of things, to be sure–Carnegie Hall and Carnegie-Mellon University, to name a couple–but for most of the 20th century, America and a good part of the world paired the name Carnegie with the word "library." Double Indemnity – the book by James Cain and the movie directed by Billy Wilder – defines, as well as anything, the elusive genré that we call noir.Noir is generally associated with violence, usually murder, and sex, with conflicting motives and motivations, and with tragically flawed characters whose lives are never the happily contented ones they seek. In general, all of these aspects are played out in an urban setting, and much of the action occurs at night. Corruption, official or unofficial, is as inevitable as the darkness that pervades the characters and their environs. Double Indemnity is a 1944 film noir from director Billy Wilder. The writing process for this flick proved to be quite the double-teaming, with Wilder partnering with hardboiled author Raymond Chandler to pen the thriller. The story is based on the 1943 novella by James M. Cain. The central story is a noir classic: a sultry femme fatale teams up with a dupe working as an insurance salesman to kill her husband. Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanywck as the main murderous duo. But can they get away with murder with a dogged claims adjuster portrayed by Edward G. Robinson on the case?Áine and Kevin are here to dole out a lump sum of compliments to this excellent noir, and discuss what makes this film a double dose of cynicism and heartbreak. And beware! This review contains spoilers!Follow us on the usual social media suspects:FacebookTwitterInstagramAnd send us mysterious and intriguing missives at mysterytomepodcast@gmail.com.Want to watch the flick and toss us a kickback at the same time? This is James Cain. I'm the director of Apocalypse Songs, a show about music journalist Amy Louise Chen's investigation into an obscure New Zealand countercultural musician, Clara Wilson. Clara released one album in the late 1960s, self-recorded on cassette tape, and died shortly afterwards, but in the years since, rumours have sprung up that Clara's songs contained coded messages predicting future events. This is Episode Three, in which Amy teams up with Josh, Clara's great-nephew, to continue the investigation. Thank you for listening. Lockdown proved to be the perfect time for Cassandra Tse and James Cain, to dust off an old script and turn it into a audio drama podcast series. Apocalypse Songs by Wellington's Red Scare Theatre Company is about to be unleashed. Although the script for Apocalypse Songs was written in 2018,production didn't begin until Aotearoa entered lockdown. The Red Scare team realized that this project could be recorded under Level 4 restrictions if need be. It could also provide entertainment to New Zealanders all over the country from the safety of their own homes. After receiving grants from both Creative New Zealand and Wellington City Council, Tse and Cain tell Lynn Freeman they managed to recruit an impressive roster of cast and crew to make the story come alive. Apocalypse Songs premieres on the 4th of July on RadioActive.fm, then will be available to download as a podcast.

A former US ambassador whose son-in-law was killed in the Brussels airport attack says Belgium should acknowledge "a horrible failure" and follow the example of the 9/11 compensation fund in treating victims equally and without delay. On 22 March last year, James Cain and his wife Helen were told by their eldest daughter Cameron, 26, that she had secretly married her partner Alexander Pinczowski, 29 - and that he and his sister Sascha were missing in the Zaventem blast. Three agonising days later, the siblings - who were heading for New York - were confirmed dead.
