The rescheduling process got extended with the announcement of the ALJ hearing on December 2nd. The show starts by discussing whether this is categorically bearish or if going through a more thorough process may yield a net benefit. Jesse and Morgan debate whether this impacts the broader thesis and the types of companies you should own. David Goubert, CEO of Ayr Wellness, joins the show about twenty minutes in and shares their perspective on the ALJ hearing. The conversation transitions into AYR's 2Q24 results and steps they can take to drive more revenue and boost margins. AYR operates 94 dispensaries, and 76 (80%) are in states that may soon transition to adult-use sales. David gives his thoughts on opportunities in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida, where AYR operates 65 stores. Finally, the guys talk about the intoxicating hemp market and how AYR may approach this emerging category.
Voters in Florida will have the opportunity to vote “yes” or “no” to legalize adult-use marijuana in November. If at least 60% of voters approve the measure, it would open the recreational marijuana market to consumers. If approved, Florida would join 24 other states that have legalized recreational use. MPR News host Cathy Wurzer spoke with Zach Wilson, CEO of the White Earth operation known as Waabigwan Mashkiki, to reflect on this first year and look forward to what's next.

This week marked the one-year anniversary of Connecticut launching its legal adult-use cannabis marketplace, so we'll connect with a spokesperson from the agency overseeing that program to look back on year one, and give us some insight on how this marketplace will be expanding in 2024. This year's CT Voices for Children State of Early Childhood report is responding to the Governor's Blue Ribbon Panel on Child Care and a Continuation of Spotlighting Disenfranchised Populations, so we're bringing in the report's two authors to unpack why its details and recommendations are so important. And we're circling back with Sustainable CT to talk about how that agency is committed to equity, and to creating communities where all are welcome and have the opportunity to thrive. We'll put out the recruiting call for summer fellows - and help celebrate Connecticut's first Gold Level certified SustainableCT community.

Special Guest: Bernie Moreno, US Senate Candidate Issue 2 - “Commercialize, Regulate, Legalize, and Tax the Adult Use of Cannabis” Actual text of the resolution is 51 pages long!!! And very, very difficult to find online While much is said about “cannabis” the bulk of the language deals with “Social Equity and Jobs Program” - a new effort under the Ohio Department of Development The actual text contains the word “equity” over twice as many times as the word “license”. Section 2: “provide funding and social equity opportunities in the state” Section 3: “Prescribing standards and procedures in coordination with the department of development to administer and enforce the cannabis social equity and jobs program” The Department of Development - “Creating a better life for all Ohioans” Already sounds like an “equity” focused organization New “Social Equity and Jobs Program” Funded by legalizing and licensing cannabis Easily expanded to every area of commerce, business and government activity Also includes language that forces cannabis into poor and impoverished neighborhoods Anyone previously convicted of selling weed, can get Ohio funding to get back into the business! Aside from the obvious issues with widespread use of marijuana, the focus on creating a whole new “equity” program has nothing to do with the legalization effort. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/restore-liberty/message
