Values.  Everyone’s talking about them in business. When disaster strikes, is it time to forget the values –the slogans and the luxury of contemplating them -  and focus on survival?  Or could it be that your way out will be found by reinforcing those values, lifting your leadership and your business higher? In this interview with Ben Lucas, Owner and Director of Flow Athletic, Ben describes the disaster of owning a gym during lockdown and the bright, shining opportunity for an online business – just launched - that came next.   After a career in professional football, Ben and business partner Kate Kendall opened Flow Athletic in 2013 mixing strength, fitness and yoga and attracting high profile devotees including Kate Waterhouse and Sunrise’s Edwina Bartholomew, and winning Telstra Start-up of the Year.  Ben and Kate have always shared the dual intentions of creating a community where staff are supported to grow and members feel safe and cared for.  And they knew that during a crisis, their staff and members needed them more than ever.  Perhaps thriving in a crisis is just about sticking to your values. I hope you enjoy this inspiring conversation with Ben.  CREDITS Host:Margot Faraci Guest: Ben Lucas CONTACT US If you'd like to get in touch with Margot, head to her LinkedIn profile here; https://www.linkedin.com/in/margot-faraci/ Find out how NAB can help you today by visiting https://www.nab.com.au/ See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Far out! How are we already at the end of season 5!! Thank you so much for sticking with us through this lockdown; we’ve been recording many of our interviews online which means sometimes they sound a little less crisp but that absolutely hasn’t stopped us and your feedback has been so inspiring to keep going. It’s been an absolutely joy to share these stories with you. Every single person that has come onto the podcast has opened up and shared a part of their heart with me, you, us. Season 5 has been a special season as most of Victoria remains in lockdown we’ve set up a little recording space in the kitchen of Dad’s holiday house here in Torquay and had people on the podcast from all over the world; Ash Brewer is an Aussie actress living in LA and she shares her experiences from jumping the Australian pond into the American LA film and TV scene. We’ve had yogi and founder of Yoke Yoga share his own personal journey with yoga as well as the challenges and rewards of building a mindful heart lead business. Natural Harry jumped on twice to talk about her values on living a minimal life, tiny homes, values and societies expectations and her new book “home.” Life coach, motivational speaker and author Pervis Taylor joined us all the way from New York City, he spoke about fear and how it often stems from a lack of control. Pippy Pomeranz shared her journey to motherhood and her ethos for never ever giving up on a dream. Actor Travis Jerkier blew me way with his humble nature and kindness, he’s worked with some of the greats (and being directed but Angelina Jolie) and yet he’s so grounded and willing share. We had my mate Cartia Mallan on fro the Gold Coast; she’s a super creative influencer and inspires so many young women to love themselves and she is unapologetically herself, which i love! Ben Miliken is an Aussie actors based in LA, he’s in a new film called “The Mighty Oak” and he gave us a little insight to the audition and shooting process of his film. Sydney yogi Kate Kendall bravely shared some of the darker times that have ultimately shaped the person she is now, she’s an iconic Sydney yogi and co-founder of the yoges and fitness studio Flow. Finally Bosso and i did a birthday episode because our birthdays are just 2 days apart so we interviewed each other for that episode, any episode is a lot of fun with Boss because we always let our guards down and we love real, honest conversations. So there you have it; season 5 boiled down to one paragraph; if any of these guests tickle your fancy, give them a listen because, honestly; they’re great humans and all have something special to share. A little about season 6; we’re ahead with all the online recordings; i’m already getting pumped for a season full of creative, funny, driven people all marching to the beat of their own drum. This week on the show I speak with author Kate Kendall, author of “Life in Flow” out now with Murdoch books. Kate shares myths about yoga and what it means to be a yogi (I learnt something new and it makes perfect sense!), how moving meditation can support us, what 90 seconds of feeling the feelings can do for us to bring us greater strength and joy and more. I‘ve known Kate since she was 12 and I was 17. We went to the same school and she was in my sister’s year. Many years later it was so great to bump into her at an event and learn she taught yoga local to me. I’d always wanted to love yoga but hadn’t found a way to understand why it was so special. I loved tennis and dance… fast, adrenalin fueled sports and yoga was a mystery, even though it looked appealing - all those calm, cool people looking strong and elegant and peaceful… So I went along to a class of Kate’s at Flow Athletic and I was hooked. If you’re in Sydney or visiting, treat yourself to a class with Kate and for today, we get to dive into the unlikely yogi journey she had to become one of the best-respected Yoga teachers in Australia and how everything she’s learnt has been generously transposed now into her beautiful new book “Life In Flow”. How did you get into yoga? What’s a yogi? Cause right now instagram says it’s ultra-thin, completely stress-free, green smoothie worshipping award-winning photographers… Might make the average person feel like ‘they can’t be a yogi’, right? What are some of the myths you hear about yoga?   In the simplest of terms, how do you define yoga? (You’ll be surprised about the answer!) Was there a turning point that led you to find ‘flow’? What made you want to write a book? What are some of the yogic philosophies you explore in the book that we can all use in our every day? How did you decide what the chapters of “Life in Flow” were going to be? What are the ‘moving meditations’ that you’ve incorporated into every chapter Let’s talk about what’s on the other side of uncomfortable feelings/sensations? What’s the relationship between discipline and joy? What are your all-time favourite poses? Of all the inspiring authors you’ve soaked up, which you often share in class what you’re reading at the moment, and what nuggets of wisdom are in the text… Do you have a favourite?

In 2011 she created The Fetch, a tech city guide, then CloudPeeps in 2014, a marketplace to hire freelance. She’s also a writer, an advisor and has been involved in various communities. Kate talked about she went from working for a magazine to become an entrepreneur, what it’s like to be a woman founder, how to find a work/life balance, especially when you work with your husband; We also discussed loneliness and freedom in entrepreneurism and how women can lead the change in the tech industry among other things. *** Music credits: Internet Vin • everyday 353
