In this electrifying episode, we dive into the dynamic realm of solar escrow with Kelly Curtis, the CEO and mastermind behind Paykeeper. From Curtis' unique experience in construction financing emerges a solution for solar cash projects and more. Tune in to explore how Paykeeper's innovative approach not only provides a safety net for both contractors and homeowners, but also regulates cash flows in an industry facing regulatory challenges.
PayKeeper CEO joins us this week to talk about how his company, PayKeeper, helps contractors in EVERY industry get cash jobs paid out from customers quickly and easily. PayKeeper sets up an FDIC insured escrow account for every cash job where the customer has to fully fund the escrow account to get jobs done. It gives the contractors peace of mind knowing the money is all there when doing the job, and it also provides security for the customer where if the contractor doesn't follow through then the customer doesn't have to release the money to the contractor. It's a win-win.
Our Guest: Reader and artist Kelly Curtis. A serendipitous meeting through Facebook has lead to this wonderful discussion and her sharing of her alternative book covers from last year's reading. Thank you!“It all started with Miss Prim. For many years, I was convinced of a tragic lie: that novels were lesser things than non-fiction. In my youth, a novel was a school assignment to trudge through, because some conclave of intellectuals blessed it with merit. At best, the story within would relate to some "real" thing of interest. This conviction became less of one over time. And it changed completely in January when the ancient widow character in The Awakening of Miss Prim shook my depths. From there I began novel reading for pleasure; to soften all the hardness; to elevate the soul.I am not a speedy reader, but I managed 13 novels this year. I painted a little painting for each book, which I happily display here.” -Kelly CurtisFeatured books in this episode:* The Great Divorce CS Lewis* The Screwtape Letters by CS Lewis* The Awakening of Miss Prim: A Novel by Natalia Sanmartin Fenollera * Little Women by Louisa May Alcott* Anne of Green Gables by LM Montgomery* Jane Austen's books* Echo Mountain by Lauren Wolk* Far From the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy* The Scent of Water by Elizabeth Goudge * The Dean's Watch by Elizabeth Goudge* Skyward Novellas by Brandon Sanderson* Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien* The Book of Ruth* Gladys Aylward: The Little Woman by Gladys Aylward with Christine Hunter* The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows* These Are My People: a Biography of Gladys Aylward by Millie Howard* The Proper Place by O. Douglas* Thomas Becket: Warrior, Priest, Rebel by John Guy* The Histories of Earth series by Steven J. Carroll with Joel Froomkin (Narrator) Further information now that I've finished the series: book four does have some “religious content” in that they meet a society founded by Ancient Romans and tell them the history that came since Ancient times on Earth including the downfall of their Empire and the influence of Christianity in that time. They are all appalled (lol) to have ever become a monotheistic society. It does not proselytize. I loved this series and cannot recommend it highly enough! * Enchantress from the Stars by Sylvia Engdahl * The Confessions, Revised: Saint Augustine (The Works of Saint Augustine: A Translation for the 21st Century, Vol. 1) by Augustine and Maria Boulding (Translator)* The Julian Messner Shelf of Biographies- Link is to our printable series list* The Story of Clara Barton of the Red Cross by Jeannette Covert Nolan * Notes from Underground by Fyodor Dostoevsk Kelly's other covers from last year:Thanks for listening! The Equalizer Season 3 Episode 18: No Place Like Home Aired on CBS: March 16, 1988 Directed by: Tobe Hooper (Texas Chainsaw Massacre!) Written by : Robert Eisele Featuring: Michael Rooker, Kelly Curtis, Michael Lerner, Richard Bright, Leo Burmester, Ed Lauter The Equalizer helps out a down-on-their-luck family who needs welfare assistance in the time of Reaganomics. This one surely had people chatting at the water cooler as they waited for their inter-office mail. This hit the topic thoroughly, between Mickey "Bootstraps" Kostmayer, the actual streets of NYC, multiple levels of capitalists and welfare programs, even the media. The usual Equalizer crazy antics made way for a renowned director (Tobe Hooper) and a top-tier guest spot by new-on-the-scene Michael Rooker. We don't solve all of the nation's problems in our discussion of this episode, but we got to most of them. @equalizerspod equalizerspodcast at gmail dot com https://www.facebook.com/equalizerspodcast/

This week I had the unique opportunity and privilege to interview a US Olympic athlete from the Winter Olympic venue in Beijing, China. This week's guest, Kelly Curtis, represented the US during the Winter Games in more than one way: first as an active-duty Airman with the United States Air Force's World Class Athlete Program (WCEP), and second as a member of Team USA competing in the sport of Skeleton. Add to that, she's the first black woman to represent the United States in Skeleton. Kelly and I discuss how she went from a standout collegiate heptathlon athlete who doesn't like cold weather, to sliding down an ice track face first at 80mph and representing her country on the biggest of world stages. Kelly describes some of her habits of success and the challenges she's faced along the way. The Equalizer Season 1 Episode 20: No Conscience Aired on CBS: March 26, 1986 Directed by: Richard Compton Written by : Mark Frost Featuring: Laurie Metcalf, D.W. Moffett, Linda Thorson, Kelly Curtis, Madison Arnold, Mark Margolis Picture this: You're in an improv group asking for a situation and someone shouts "A ladies man who has 36 hours to give some bad guys some unknown thing a woman gave him." First you'd be like "uh, what?" which would be perfectly valid, there are things to pick apart right off the bat and many red flags that you shouldn't proceed. But if you do go for it, even if you're one of those What's My Line? guys, you would not approach what weird wild stuff happens in this season one episode of The Equalizer. We really want to say more but we don't want to spoil it and this podcasting platform might not be able to handle such craziness in a description field. @equalizerspod equalizerspodcast at gmail dot com

Other artists have covered his material, including Eminem. His timeless anthem guitar intro to Barracuda is frequently used as the lead in for America’s number one rated radio talk show, Rush Limbaugh. Tony Robbins refers to it as part of the turning point in his life. It was also controversially featured by Republican presidential and Vice Presidential candidates, John McCain and Sarah Palin in the 2008 election. The original line-up of Heart was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2013. His new albums, All Told and Heart Of The Blues are the first of many new releases with brother Mike, aka Magic Man. The brothers are creating a massive multimedia endeavor, the One Vision Project. Michael Fisher Ever since the ’60’s, Mike has been involved in artist development, recording and producing, event production, and designing and building audio systems for touring groups, concerts, and large venues. He was one of the founders of Heart where he oversaw the business until his departure in about 1980. His roles included chief visionary, management, FOH sound engineer, and a producer of Heart. After leaving Heart Michael and his brother Roger built a recording studio and spent several years creating original music and recording other groups while also managing a series of performing bands featuring Roger and other notable musicians. Roger left with former Heart drummer Michael Derosier and bassist Steve Fossen to join a Canadian duo called Alias. Michael formed a sound company, Proshow USA which gave him an opportunity to work alongside some of the greatest entertainers of our time such as Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope and other notables such as Bill Gates and presidents Bush and Clinton. His company has worked with many of the major artists in the music industry including providing sound production for Nirvana from their first theater shows continuing to their last show. More recently Proshow has focused on very large outdoor events around the country. Michael and Roger have committed to creating THE ONE VISION PROJECT, an ambitious endeavor that encompasses their life’s work, including an interactive web portal, four albums which draw from a catalog of more than a hundred songs, music videos, an autobiography and more. ALL TOLD was the first release to be followed by Heart Of The Blues, an album inspired by many wonderful trips to the deep south. Their band Human Tribe is performing on tour. The Brothers have created a brand, Human Tribe, and are promoting quality products that offer something beneficial such as their Human Tribe Tea and Heart Of The Blues whiskey. What you’ll learn about in this episode: Mike reads a chain of emails he shared with Ann Wilson with regards to being inducted into the Hall of Fame and getting the band back together for the ceremony Mike discusses some of the tensions and problems that took place around the induction ceremony and the issue of having other musicians play Barracuda rather than the original group Roger discusses the hurt feelings that were felt due to the induction and the tensions between original and later members of Heart, due to the later members not being considered a part of the induction Mike discusses feeling as though he should have been invited to sit at the band tables at the induction Roger discusses his former housekeeper Kelly Curtis’s involvement with the band during their touring days Roger talks about being voted out of the band, and he shares why he used that experience as a push to become a better musician Roger discusses struggling against feelings of entitlement after he was removed from the band, and he shares how it taught him humility and authenticity Roger shares when he realized that he was going to work toward becoming a rock musician through a clear vision he had at age 15 Roger talks about his One Vision project and its origins, and he shares the overarching themes of the four-volume masterwork Roger shares how he plotted out each of the four albums and how he carefully titled them to reflect their themes Mike shares how he got involved in the One Vision project, and he discusses how he recognized the story found in the common threads of Roger’s music Mike discusses Roger’s development of a “hangover tea”, the challenge of getting people to buy music, and the opportunities found in creating things that can be held Additional resources: Website: www.rogerfisher.com
(This is an encore presentation of a previously published episode.)Your host Sam Falsafi has Warrior Guest Kelly Curtis on the call to face the barriers of race, culture, and religion and how becoming your own man based off of your own definition instead of society’s helps shape you into what you want to be in life. Parable #1: Follow the Lead of the Universe Kelly’s journey to Warrior Week began in 2007 while attending a convention where Tony Robbins, Les Brown and a charismatic guy named Garrett White were speaking. Years later while surfing the internet, Kelly was surprised to find himself viewing a documentary featuring the guy who, years earlier, had made an unforgettable impression upon him. There comes a time in your life when a conversation takes place that is out of your hands, where the Universe is delivering a message to you that will either move you to take immediate action or lead you down the path in the direction that is meant for you to take. QUESTION Are you opening your eyes to the messages the Universe is sending you? What are some of the messages you are currently receiving? Parable #2: Own Your Truth While on a spiritual journey questioning everything he has ever believed, Kelly began owning the answers instead of relying on someone else’s idea of what he should believe. He was brought to a place of peace, yet felt like he was missing the Map of what to do next. Warrior Week provided the tactical piece of the puzzle that was missing, giving him permission to become the Seeker. In sharing the story surrounding the origin of the Muslim law established 1700 years ago forbidding the consumption of alcohol, Sam asks you to consider: What laws and beliefs will you follow today that will serve you as a man, husband and human being in getting what you want and putting you in a position of serving others? QUESTION Where has questioning your core beliefs led you? What beliefs and practices do you still hold onto that are no longer serving you? Parable #3: There Is No Finish Line In a grinding 12 hour day in the war zone during one of the most difficult and challenging experiences of his life, Kelly is able to stay in the grueling game by retaining a piercing and determined focus on the vision of his sons watching him, envisioning demonstrating to them what it looks like to do your best, give your all, and go all in. In the midst of a six-month audit, Kelly owned that he had nothing to hide. What separates him from his contemporaries in the finance world is the fact that he lives by a Code that says: Don’t Lie, Tell the Fucking Truth, and I will not ask you to do anything that I haven’t done myself. QUESTION Where in your life are you asking people to do things that you have not done yourself? Parable #4: Religion, Race & Culture: The Big Dividers Of Humanity Judgment is the barrier that you put between you and another human being. As humans, we create labels which create the separation. Our backgrounds, race or culture should not create any fucking barriers to what we want or what we are ruthlessly committed to going after. By lying, we separate ourselves into these labels and circles. You can have an association that has the same religion, culture, and race, but inside of that, there is a major amount of separation taking place. On the outside the labels are perfect; on the inside, the love is not connected and the love is not real. QUESTION What are some of the ways you label, judge and categorize others? Does that make you feel more connected or more divided? Parable #5: Freedom Has a Price In his travels outside of America, Sam observed behaviors and patterns that were symbols of restriction and poverty, wherein one city families were claiming poles in the street as their home. He came back home appreciative of the freedoms that most take for granted in America. At the end of the day, freedom is a fundamental need for humans. We are acting alone as men, feeling like there is nowhere we can drop the guilt, pain, and shame, where we are conditioned to mask our totality. The secret to not fucking living with guilt and shame is to give yourself permission to be free to own the light and the darkness within you. That is what we do inside the experience of Warrior. QUESTION What price are you willing to pay to experience freedom within yourself and in all areas of your life? Parables from the Pit: “The reality is this: You are either my brother in my faith, race, or culture or my equal in humanity. Black, white – no matter what you want to call yourself – you are more than welcome to come inside this place and discover the permission to stop fucking lying and start fucking telling the truth.” – Sam Falsafi “Brothers, I’m looking forward to seeing more of us – guys who look like me. A lot of times we just need to see it. Maybe I’m the guy who sparks the thought inside of you: ‘Hey, he looks like me and he’s doing this, maybe it’s okay for me to try this out.’ The message, doctrine and principles are universal and there are a lot of men out there that can use this across the board – any race or color. We all have the same problems and issues no matter who we are or where we are in the world.” – Kelly Curtis
