The day that we've all been waiting is almost upon us as Luton Town prepare to make their Premier League bow with a big test at Brighton and Hove Albion. With nine new faces (well, eight, because Marvelous Nakamba is now a fully-fledged Hatter) it's a conundrum as to what Town's team will be. Still, your host Kevin Harper is joined by Dan Barratt-Davis and The Lutonian journalist James Cunliffe to debate what the starting XI will be, plus how the Hatters can hurt the Seagulls, and just where the key battles will be on the big day. And, of course, we predict what the score will be. Join the trio to build up to the big kick-off and the start of our seventh season covering Luton Town, as the longest-running Hatters podcast, and the only one-club football show to have gone from League Two to the Premier League. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Like our new logo for the 2023/24 season? SEASON 2 EPISODE 4 Data with Impact: How data can help improve labour force outcomes Hosted by Rhetta Chappell Conversation with Kevin Harper and Dr. Tom Verhelst Exploring the utility of mobility data to drive positive and sustainable change, mobility data are extremely valuable when working to solve complex social problems. By collecting and analysing data on how, when and where people move around a neighbourhood, city or region, governments and organisations can gain valuable insights into human behaviour, transportation use, incident rates and can be used to inform interventions promoting greater equity, sustainability, and safety in our communities. Mobility data can also play a vital role in disaster response efforts, helping to ensure that resources are deployed efficiently and effectively to those in need. DSpark are leaders in processing large geo-spatial temporal mobility data to deliver intelligence on people and places using the highest data privacy standards. Understanding how people move, where they go and what they do enables their partner organisations to map their strategy around where people live, work and play. Join us as we discuss the importance of fostering a data friendly and curious work culture, and why it's hard for some organisations to take that calculated risk and trust how in what the data say, even though if they do so, they can reap the benefits of being an insight rich organisation. If you have any questions or comments, you can reach us on Twitter at @G_RIDL or by email at ridl@griffith.edu.au. Griffith University and the Relational Insights Data Lab (RIDL) are dedicated to building and supporting thriving communities. We believe that the right data, in the hands of the right people, can change lives for the better. We are committed to collaborating and co-designing solutions which address long standing, complex socio-economic problems. If you or your organisation would like to collaborate or learn more about the important work we do, please get in touch. We'd love to hear why data matters to you. In the latest installment of our guest specials, Good John is joined by former Scottish Sun Sports Editor and ex-Airdrie CEO Iain King, who is now coaching at North Toronto Nitros in Canada. After covering off more reflection on Scotland's qualification to Euro 2020, Iain talks about how he worked his way up the journalism ladder before joining The Scottish Sun in 2000. During his 15 years at the paper, he became Chief Football Writer then became Sports Editor in 2007. Iain was honest when asked about defending the papers reputation in comparison to its English version and how they overtook the Daily Record to become the most sold paper in Scotland. Iain also won Football Writer of the Year for three consecutive years thanks to scoops like Barry Ferguson's return to Rangers and Roy Keane signing for Celtic. Following a decision to take redundancy from the Scottish Sun in 2015, Iain became CEO at Airdrie and he goes through the challenges of the role, none bigger than when Manager, and good friend, Eddie Wolecki-Black suffered a stroke at half time during a game in Cowdenbeath. He left the club that summer and then moved to Canada under a year later to take up a coaching role at North Toronto Nitros. Iain's coaching career actually began during his newspaper days as he managed both East Kilbride and BSC Glasgow, so this held him in good stead to head out to Toronto. He explains that he is largely responsible for bringing kids of many age groups, male and female, through the academy. We round off by touching on his involvement with Northern American Scottish Coaches Association, where they hold weekly Zoom calls with many Scots coaches over here like Walter Smith, David Weir and Kevin Harper, before an interesting round of quick fire questions. The two John's are joined by ex Hibs, Derby, Portsmouth, Stoke and Dunfermline player Kevin Harper. Kevin is the current manager of Albion Rovers so we start off by talking about reconstruction talks and what his views are on this. He goes on to talk about signing for Hibs, the highs and lows of scoring winners in Edinburgh derbies and relegation in his last full season. We talk about racism in football and how things haven't really improved since then 1990s which is when Kevin started his career. He believes more needs to be done to get BAME involved particularly in management. Kevin moved on to Derby who were in the English Premier League and had a successful first season before moving on to Portsmouth a couple seasons later. This led to playing with some great players and characters such as Prosinecki, Crouch and Merson. This leads on to his best season in football where they got promoted to the top flight in England. Unfortunately things didn't work out as well then with a couple of loan spells and eventually moving on to Stoke where after a successful start, injuries took their toll. He then returned north with Dunfermline. We finish off with the usual fun stuff which includes a cracking best eleven of players he has played with.

F-Bomb John shows off his proud new nickname in front of Good John and No Nickname Krys on this week's podcast. We start off with a review of Celtic in Europe as they advance in style past Nomme Kalju and onto Cluj, with Krys firing off as many bad puns as he can manage. There's previews of both Rangers and Aberdeen later this week as they both hope to Progres to the third qualifying round of the Europa League. The League Cup sectionals come to an end and there's a couple of surprise names in the second round, with East Fife particularly happy to get one of the big names in the draw. Forfar got there thanks to another defeat for St Johnstone, leaving Tommy Wright unsurprisingly one of the favourites in the sack race. Meanwhile Albion Rovers came close to getting out of their section ahead of St Mirren, which leads us nicely into Good John's interview with Albion Rovers manager Kevin Harper. Kevin tells us about his time in charge at Cliftonhill so far, saving Albion Rovers from the playoffs in the process, and his thoughts going into the new season for both his current team and also how his former team Hibernian might do. Back on the podcast, we take a look at our league predictions for the coming season. For full coverage check out the blog where you'll find them all including our thoughts on the cup competitions. We end with a look forward to the opening day league fixtures this weekend. It's not mentioned on the podcast this week, but we're running a fantasy football league this season. South Africa got off to a bad start losing to England in the opening match of the tournament, but can they rebound here? Bangladesh are considered outsiders in this fixture. However, in the overall tournament podcast Kevin Harper said he expects them to surprise a few people. Listen as the boys preview this affair from the Oval.
Kevin Harper, Tony Murray and James Cunliffe return for a BUMPER April edition of the Luton Town Supporters' Trust podcast. This is the first full podcast the boys have done since Newlands Park was given planning permission so, even though they recorded some instant reaction on the night, the boys take a considered look at the historic decision, while a stunning month on the pitch that saw Luton equal a club record of 27 games unbeaten. The Hatters extended their lead at the top of League One to seven points clear with 6 games to go. The records kept racking up as Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu marked his 200th appearance for the club, a stint which included both of Town’s 27 game unbeaten runs. He’s in line to become the first Luton player to win three promotions with the club, so the boys discuss whether or not he can be considered a club legend. Talking of stats, Simon Pitts is back with his regular rundown of all the big ones. And statistically speaking (probably) this has to be one of the most difficult campaigns to pick a player of the season, but the trio make their choices. And on the tenth anniversary of the club’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy triumph, there’s so much more to get through, including the recollections of manager then and now, Mick Harford. All in all it has been another incredible month for the club. The running order is: Newlands Park reaction March matches review Lua Lua player focus Pelly player focus Collins player focus Player of the Season Simon’s Stats Rest of season preview JPT anniversary Trust talk
Kevin Harper, Tony Murray and James Cunliffe were in Luton Town Hall chamber on Monday March 11, a date that will go down in history for Luton Town Football Club and the town of Luton, as the day that Newlands Park was given planning permission. The boys gave their instant and emotional reaction straight after the monumental decision by Luton Borough Council, which you can hear being delivered right at the start of this special short bonus episode. The town and the club had been given planning permission for Power Court in January, but it was this separate mixed-use development by junction 10 of the M1 that was crucial to providing funding for the club's new 17,500-seat stadium at Power Court. For two-and-a-half years, it was also hugely opposed by Capital & Regional, the owners of The Mall shopping centre, but they did not even send a representative to the planning meeting to speak on their behalf. Instead they had a letter read out by a council officer, which was duly dispatched in cross examination by the 2020 team. Councillors then sided with Luton Town and voted through the application that, together with Power Court, will bring forward an 1,800-capacity music venue, bars, restaurants, leisure and entertainment facilities, offices, business facilities, homes and more. They are set to transform Luton, bring 10,000 new jobs and an annual boost to the local economy of £250million.
Kevin Harper, James Cunliffe and Tony Murray return for the March edition of the Luton Town Supporters' Trust podcast. With Luton top of League and five points clear with 11 games to go, things are on the pitch are on the up and up, but on Monday March 11 there is a colossal decision due on the club's Newlands Park planning application. Approval could act as a catalyst for the regeneration of the town and provide the crucial funding that to ensure a new 17,500-seat stadium is built at Power Court, after that application was approved by Luton Borough Council in January. But Newlands Park is opposed by Capital & Regional, the owners of The Mall shopping centre, and the trio talk about what this could mean for the town and the football club of Luton. The boys also turn their attention to on-field matters after the Hatters extended their unbeaten League One run to 22 games, which included breaking a club record for the longest unbeaten streak in the Football League. They review the February fixtures, which included victories against Wycombe Wanderers, Fleetwood Town and Rochdale and a home draw against Coventry City. There are also discussions on: Player of the monthPlayer focus 1 - Danny HyltonPlayer focus 2 - Jack StaceySimon's stats - Town commentator Simon Pitts drills down into club statistics, past and present.March fixture preview with trips to Plymouth Argyle, Bradford City, Bristol Rovers and home clashes against Gillingham and Doncaster Rovers.
Tony Murray returns to join Kevin Harper and James Cunliffe in front of the mics, for the February edition of the Luton Town Supporters' Trust podcast. After Luton were stunned by the sudden departure of manager Nathan Jones, before one the biggest months in the club's history, there was some concern about what January would hold for the Hatters. We needn't have worried. It was an incredible month, both on and off the pitch, with Town on top of the League One table. The boys discuss what that means for Luton and there are also discussions on: January's results February's fixture list against, with clashes against Wycombe Wanderers (H), Fleetwood Town (A), Coventry City (H) and the first game in March - Rochdale (H) - before we return for episode 9 of this season. the January transfer window, including the signing of George Moncur, and the loan captures of Alex Baptiste, Aaron Connolly, Jason Cummings and George Thorne. Plus, absolutely no big stars left. player of the month player focus - Kazenga LuaLua The manager situation with Mick Harford in interim charge. Promotion expectations The latest community talk after the 17,500-seat Power Court stadium was given planning permission Simon's Stats - Town commentator Simon Pitts drills down into club statistics, past and present.
Kevin Harper and James Cunliffe get in front of the mics, minus Tony 'Sicknote' Murray, for a bumper January edition of the Luton Town Supporters' Trust podcast. What is due to be the one of the biggest months in the club's history both on an off the pitch, the Town were rocked by the news that manager Nathan Jones left for the Stoke City job, halfway through a promotion-chasing season and a couple of weeks that could define, not only the Hatters' future, but the town of Luton. Just 24 hours after Jones left Kenilworth Road, Kevin and James unpick the shock news and ruminate on the ramifications for Luton. Then there's the monumental planning application decision dates for Power Court (January 16) and Newlands Park (January 30), which will determine whether Luton get permission for a new stadium and the town gets approval for the two biggest decisions to effect the borough of Luton in a lifetime. There is also the second part of a new feature on the podcast - Simon's Stats - where popular Town commentator Simon Pitts will drill down into club statistics, past and present. All that as well that, there are discussions on: December's results January's fixture list against, with massive clashes against promotion rivals, Sunderland (A), Peterborough (H) and Portsmouth (A), plus a winner faces Chelsea FA Cup third round replay against Sheffield Wednesday (H) and a league trip to Southend (A). the January transfer window, including the loan signing of George Thorne from Derby. player of the month player focus - James Justin
This Christmas bonus episode of the Luton Town Supporters' Trust podcast sees regular host Kevin Harper absent with man flu so, in his place, chairman Tony Murray joins James Cunliffe down at the Hatters' training ground for an extended chat with forwards Elliot Lee and Harry Cornick. The pair chat about their partnership which has brought 16 goals between them this term, including that 70-yard Gareth Bale-esque run from Cornick during the 3-1 win at Gillingham, only for his pal to claim the goal. There's also praise for Town's defence, who have kept 11 clean sheets this term in all competitions, with the pair revealing what Matty Pearson would actually do if you 'threw a brick at him', as the fans chant about the centre back. And Harry explains why people should be very afraid if Sonny Bradley ever breaks his goalscoring duck for the Town And don't miss an insightful delve into what it's like to be a youngster at a Premier League club - the struggles that they faced to break into the first teams of West Ham United and Bournemouth, and why dropping down the leagues has been the right move for them.
It's the Two John's this week as Krys takes a weeks break. As usual, there was a lot to discuss. Both Old Firm sides had contrasting results in their Europa League matches, and the theme continued domestically on Sunday. Was a red card shown in the wrong game? The rest of the Premiership action brought lots of talking points as Aberdeen moved into the top six, St Johnstone made it five wins in a row without conceding a goal, Kilmarnock became the first side to win at Tynecastle (can they do a Leicester this season) and the bottom two did little to enhance their confidence in a draw at Dens Park. Scotland's upcoming Nations League matches against Albania and Israel brought the usual discussion on who should make the starting line up, thoughts on the latest withdrawals and call ups, particularly in the goalkeeping department. In the lower divisions, Partick Thistle continue to slide, Arbroath's surprise march goes on and Albion Rovers hope the only way is up under new manager Kevin Harper. It was also a big week for TV deals as the SFA announce a deal with Premier Sports and BBC Scotland for the Scottish Cup, whilst the Sky v BT bid for Premiership rights is discussed.
