Send us a textThe mountain running world is buzzing as defending champion Dan Kurtz prepares to face an elite field at the upcoming Sunapee Scramble. Fresh off a dedicated altitude training block in Boulder, Colorado, Dan takes us inside his unorthodox preparation—from living in a van and training on the steepest lines of Green Mountain to battling blizzards and mechanical breakdowns on his way to winning the Canyons 25K.Dan doesn't shy away from discussing the pressure he feels to defend his title and earn another spot on the World Mountain Running team. His candid reflections on training alongside mountain running stars Kyle Richardson and Johnny Luna Lima reveal the camaraderie and competitive edge that's sharpened his preparation. The conversation takes an intriguing turn when discussing his budding rivalry with Mason Kopi following their head-to-head battle on Boulder's notorious Sanitas Challenge—a contest that clearly still fuels Dan's competitive fire. With remarkable insight, Dan breaks down his race strategy for Sunapee's demanding two-loop course, analyzing how he'll approach the aggressive early pace from competitors and leverage his technical descending skills. His knowledge of the course—right down to his preference for minimal Asics Asheels on the potentially muddy terrain—showcases the meticulous preparation of an elite athlete who understands exactly what's required to succeed. Whether you're following the elite mountain running scene or simply fascinated by what it takes to compete at the highest level, this raw and revealing pre-race conversation captures both the physical and mental preparation behind championship-level mountain running. Language models (LMs) have become ubiquitous in both NLP research and in commercial product offerings. As their commercial importance has surged, the most powerful models have become closed off, gated behind proprietary interfaces, with important details of their training data, architectures, and development undisclosed. Given the importance of these details in scientifically studying these models, including their biases and potential risks, we believe it is essential for the research community to have access to powerful, truly open LMs. To this end, this technical report details the first release of OLMo, a state-of-the-art, truly Open Language Model and its framework to build and study the science of language modeling. Unlike most prior efforts that have only released model weights and inference code, we release OLMo and the whole framework, including training data and training and evaluation code. We hope this release will empower and strengthen the open research community and inspire a new wave of innovation. 2024: Dirk Groeneveld, Iz Beltagy, Pete Walsh, Akshita Bhagia, Rodney Kinney, Oyvind Tafjord, A. We present the final two installments of our interviews with Clemson's assistant coaches. Kyle Richardson is entering his second season as the Tigers' tight ends coach and passing-game coordinator. Even after losing Davis Allen, he has high hopes for a group that includes Jake Briningstool, Sage Ennis and Josh Sapp. Mickey Conn is in charge of a safety group that brings back a wealth of experience from last season. Conn is confident that the talent and seasoning on the back end will produce much better results this season after the Tigers were routinely beaten over the top last season. Clemson begins its season at Duke on Labor Day night.
Kyle Richardson is a "pig in mud" as he transitions to the offense of Garrett Riley, as both have roots in the Air Raid offensive system. Richardson acknowledges that the 2022 season, his first as an on-the-field coach at Clemson, was difficult because it was his first time coaching tight ends. Richardson believes his top player, Jake Briningstool, is "a totally different player" and headed for big things. Lemanski Hall, who has coached defensive ends at Clemson for five seasons, assesses the depth on the edge with Justin Mascoll and Xavier Thomas on the shelf for most of spring practice. Hall says freshman defensive tackle Peter Woods can play any and all positions on the defensive front. Hall also reflects on the message Dabo Swinney has sent to his assistants this offseason: Be better, or you'll be held accountable.

Kyle Richardson, 03/29/23 by SportsTalk
Just in time for Super Bowl LVII, Raquel Micit and Ryan Miner welcomed former Super Bowl champion and NFL player Kyle Richardson to The Senior Soup Podcast to discuss aging as an athlete and the NFL Alumni Health's partnership with Amada Senior Care. This is Episode 13 of The Senior Soup Podcast. Kyle Richardson is the co-director of NFL Alumni Health, a wholly-owned subsidiary of The NFL Alumni Association (NFL Alumni). He discussed his career journey - one that led him into a healthcare and medical sales career after retiring from the NFL and then later co-directing the NFL Alumni Association, his current professional role. The NFL Alumni Association is a 501 [c] [3] organization supporting former NFL employees, players, coaches, cheerleaders, spouses, and more! The Association's mission is to ensure former NFL employees are cared for medically and legally. Kyle discusses the organization's mission to support its athletes and how it has been a priority for the NFL Alumni Association for many years. The conversation discussed the mission statement of an association focused on caring for its own, including retired athletes. Raquel and Ryan discussed with Kyle the importance of taking care of oneself and the various resources available to former NFL players with NFL Alumni Health. The Senior Soup Podcast co-host Raquel Micit is the owner of Amada Senior Care in Montgomery County, Maryland. Kyle and Raquel discussed Amada Senior Care's nationwide partnership with NFL Alumni Health. Kyle accredited Tafa Jefferson, a former NFL player and the founder and CEO of Amada Senior Care, as the driving force behind the partnership between NFL Alumni Health and Amada Senior Care. Tafa's NFL background, as well as Tafa's mother's experience as a caregiver, gave Tafa the empathy and understanding to create a high-quality national franchise home care service. As a result, Amada Senior Care became the preferred national home care brand to partner with NFL Alumni Health. In the takeaway segment, Kyle, a former Baltimore Raven, left the audience with this important takeaway: “It's never too early to start investing in your healthcare,” especially professional athletes and retired NFL players, and to remain committed to “the game of life.” Finally, Kyle recalls his Baltimore Raven's 2001 Super Bowl XXXV victory over the New York Giants and what his team's Super Bowl victory meant for Baltimore City and the state of Maryland.

In this episode I sit with Kyle Richardson, a creative director who lives just south of Nashville, Tennessee. He's also my best friend of over 25 years. Join us as we discuss his all-time favorite movie, Disney's Heavyweights (1996). Kyle also is the owner of the Heavyweights Instagram page. This is a movie he's loved since he first saw it on video back in junior high, because he knew it as the follow-up to The Mighty Ducks. Even all these years later, we agree that this comedy still holds up. Aside from the jokes, Heavyweights captures the magic of childhood spent at summer camp. Kyle is a big Ben Stiller fan, and he argues that this is Stiller's absolute best role. Being such a big fan of the movie, Kyle shares some interesting behind-the-scenes trivia, including a hilarious deleted scene that Disney would NEVER allow into one of their family-friendly movies. We discuss how parents tend to shuffle off their children's problems to other institutions to take care of, or cure. But what's nice in this movie is that the fat kids just don't care. Camp Hope is a place where they can all gather together and be themselves. Kyle also recounts the humorous story about the first time he cooked a frozen pizza and how that moment became such a milestone in his life. Also, is Heavyweights too politically incorrect for Disney+? Am I the only one who's shocked to find that it's available? I ask Kyle's opinion on this, and that inevitably leads us into a conversation about cancel culture and it's effects on comedy as we know it. Does Heavyweights fat-shame, or does it glorify obesity? Listen in as Kyle offers his opinions. I close out the interview with five Heavyweights-related trivia questions. See if you can beat him to the answers. Kyle then lists three other desert island movies. He's worked for trail running brands like Patagonia and Satisfy and something tells me I am catching him at the very early stages of a notable career. We talk about:Athlete sponsorshipIncreasing representation in trail runningHow to grow the sport of trail runningHow to be an entrepreneur in the outdoor industryThis one was recorded in studio, we go long - about 2 hours, have a bit to drink, and only talk peripherally about running at times. But it was an authentic conversation, there's a lot of life talk in there, and almost all of it is applicable to our sport if you think about it. Kyle Richardson is a Colorado-based professional runner and mountain athlete who is best known for his high-stakes, high-speed endurance feats in the Rocky Mountains. Over the past two years, Kyle has set several Fastest Known Time (“FKT”) records in the Colorado mountains—most notably on Boulder’s First and Third Flatirons, as well as the renowned LA Freeway route that stretches from Longs Peak to Arapahoe Peak. Away from his endurance feats, Kyle is a formally trained musician, and he composes original music for filmmakers and outdoor brands such as Black Diamond and La Sportiva. Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Kyle’s youth was defined by time in the outdoors with his family and a deep commitment to music and playing the drums. His love of the West’s wide-open spaces led him to college at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he began to realize his talent for endurance and moving quickly through the mountains. After several years of running and climbing throughout Colorado, he captured the attention of the endurance community with his record-setting time on the LA Freeway, a difficult and exposed route that combines running, scrambling, and rock climbing. Since then, he has earned sponsorships from major outdoor brands that have allowed him to pursue his adventures in the mountains with full focus and intensity. I met up with Kyle in Boulder, where we had a wide-ranging conversation about his passion for the mountains and music. We started by discussing his athletic career and some of the details around his fastest known times on well-known mountain routes. We also discussed Kyle’s love of the process of training—in both athletics and music—and how his commitment to preparation gives him the confidence to pursue challenging and sometimes dangerous goals. We discuss the common skills required to be great in both endurance sports and music, and Kyle talks about some of the mentors and heroes who have shaped his career. Kyle is a voracious reader, so we talk a lot about books, and Kyle reveals a very interesting personal tie to one of my favorite history books, "Empire of the Summer Moon." Kyle is humble and thoughtful, and it was a real pleasure getting to know him. Hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did. --- Full episode notes: https://mountainandprairie.com/kyle-richardson/ --- TOPICS DISCUSSED: 3:00 - How Kyle describes his athletic pursuits 6:00 - Kyle and Fastest Known Times (“FKT”) 10:30 - FKTs in the Boulder’s Flatirons 16:00 - Training routine 18:00 - Growing up in Texas 20:30 - Music and how it informs athletics 22:50 - Film scoring, composing, and music industry 26:30 - Heroes and mentors in the music world 28:00 - Drums, running, and excess energy as a kid 29:30 - When people began to take note of Kyles running 32:30 - Athletic mentors 38:30 - Artistic, cerebral aspects to mountain sports 39:30 - Assessing risk in the mountains 42:30 - Nature making you feel small 46:30 - Kyle’s parent’s support for his career 48:30 - Running goals for 2020 52:00 - Books he’s currently reading 54:15 - Favorite books about the West 56:00 - Limiting screens and social media 57:30 - Favorite location in the West 58:45 - Most powerful outdoor experience 1:00:25 - Parting words of wisdom ---- ABOUT MOUNTAIN & PRAIRIE: Mountain & Prairie Podcast Mountain & Prairie on Instagram Upcoming Events About Ed Roberson Support Mountain & Prairie

This year's FKTOY coverage is brought to you by the running apparel company, rabbit. Go to runinrabbit.com, enter FKT at checkout, and save 20% on your first order. Thanks for supporting the companies that support Fastest Known Times! Five women and five men will be awarded for the best FKTs in 2019. Who will they be? Peter Bakwin (Episode 65) and Andrew Skurka (Episode 26) discuss what inspired them this year. "One issue with this FKT, is that it's not a well-known Route by a well-known person, so some Voters may not understand how incredibly hard it is - the numbers do not describe this." The next Podcast will reveal the #5, #4, and #3 FKTs of 2019. One thing for sure - they won't be the same-old Routes by the same people! The first three years of FKTOY Awards saw the John Muir Trail, Nolans 14, and R2R2R win 3 Awards and the Appalachian Trail 2 - in 2019, these four towering Routes are not even on the Nominations List! "Six Athletes had 2-3 Nominations coming into this year - in 2019 none of them were Nominated - you're going to hear about new people!" Podcast music by Sage Baptiste (instagram.com/imsagebaptiste & @whatablr) and mixed by Kyle Richardson (instagram.com/kylerichardson).

Ep. 13 - Jim Walmsley - R2R2R.alt - "I just took off and swam across - my idea was I wanted to set the tone - we're here to do it, we're not here to chicken out." 630 FKTs this year (and more coming in every day) ... what's new and cool? "More women, and more women going solo on technical routes" There were no big efforts this year on the big routes, like the AT, PCT, R2R2R, JMT ... the existing times are too fast! "The low-hanging fruit has been plucked" Who will be the FKTOY winners? What do YOU think? READ the ARTICLE with the NOMINATIONS LIST Podcast music by Sage Baptiste (instagram.com/imsagebaptiste & @whatablr) and mixed by Kyle Richardson (instagram.com/kylerichardson).
What is the relationship between speed and safety? What is the boundary and how do you know when you're hitting it? Ultrarunners have the fitness to get really far into the backcountry, but do they have the skill and experience to get back safely? "People are drawn to these routes, because they're super aesthetic, iconic lines. But are they over their head?" "You can download a .gpx file and just follow your watch on a trail, but on technical terrain, that doesn't work." You need to practice. To take time. It's more rewarding to spend years, learning the craft. "Kyle did the First Flatiron over 320 times before setting the FKT." "Kilian has zero chance of breaking Kyle's record on the LA Freeway" What can we all do to be safer? What are the best tips? "By far what makes you safest is your mind." "Don't be in a hurry to go fast." https://www.boulderweekly.com/adventure/kyle-richardson-sets-new-speed-records-soloing-first-and-third-flatirons/

Last Sunday, Kyle Richardson challenged us to take time for a sabbath. This week during the service, we hear from some of us who shared what that experience was like. If you were to poll people about spiritual practices, fasting probably wouldn't be the first thing they would list. Ironically, the Bible talks a great deal about fasting, and Jesus began his own ministry with this spiritual practice. Fasting was part of Jewish tradition as a way to cultivate spiritual commitment and focus one's attention on God. To this day, there are many Christian communities that still fast in some form - everything from restricting certain foods or activities to only eating certain times of day. As we read the Scriptures, Jesus warns us against fasting with the wrong intention, and we know fasting can be harmful when people have experienced disordered thinking about food. The point of fasting is not the what, but the why. The practice can help us discover a lot about ourselves and how we interact with the world around us. Listen in as Pastor Sarah Heath shares how fasting can be a helpful addition to our spiritual diet.

Last Sunday, Pastor Sarah challenged us to take time to meditate and pray. This week during the service, we hear from some of us who shared what that experience was like. In the midst of a culture that often values busyness and productivity, this week Kyle Richardson talks about the practice of rest. When the world yells at us to go faster and work harder, scripture reminds us that sometimes we need to stop.

This Sunday, Kyle Richardson takes a look at Mary’s life after Jesus was born, and how it may not have turned out the way she expected. As we reflect on the past year, did you have expectations that weren’t met? As we look forward to next year, may we find comfort in Mary’s story, and remember that Jesus isn’t always who we expect

Kyle Richardson was only 22 years old on Aug 1, when he set the new FKT on the high and technical LA Freeway. His time of 16hrs 28mins 53secs bettered the time of 16hrs 59mins set by Matthias Messner just last year. “The LA Freeway links Longs Peak, the tallest in Rocky Mountain National Park, with Arapaho Peak, the tallest in the Indian Peaks. It’s above 12,000 feet the entire time. It’s an iconic line - this is what you see on the skyline looking west.” “For 14 hours I didn’t see a soul, even though I was right above Boulder, almost in sight of Denver”. There was no water the entire distance, so Kyle describes how he stashed 3 liters of water in two locations, and why this Self-Supported style made the most sense. The route is rated 5.6 in difficulty, but Kyle was ready for it: “Find what inspires you. Then put in the time to learn the route; respect the route. Practice."

Scott is one of the best ultrarunners in history, winning the Hardrock 100, Badwater in Death Valley, the Spartathlon in Greece, and an unprecedented 7 wins in a row at the Western States 100. In 2016 he and his wife Jenny took on a personal project, the 2,200mi Appalachian Trail, setting a new FKT of 46 days, 9 hours. This journey became a book on the New York Times Best Seller List, entitled, "North: Finding My Way on the Appalachian Trail." “We didn’t have all the beta … we wanted the full adventure … if we were to go back we would do a million things different. But it was a great experience, and exactly what we needed.” Listen as they describe the range of emotions experienced on an FKT of this length, and how it’s difficult to to write about their friends, who are all very accomplished people, and also colorful characters … and who still are their friends. Jenny predicts how fast the FKT on the AT will go, and Scott describes what is next for him. Learn how a Belgian dentist set the FKT on the Pacific Crest Trail in 2016, then in 2018, was over four days faster on the Appalachian Trail than two of the fastest ultra-runners in the US. We speak with Karel Sabbe and his support crew, Joren Biebuyck, about their remarkable feat. Do narcissists try to make romantic partners jealous on purpose? New research has proven something very shocking - that at least one type of narcissist doesn't attempt to use jealousy for revenge and in fact uses it in a very calculated way. In this video, I'll share the results of a study done in April of this year: An examination of motives for deliberate jealousy-induction among subtypes of narcissism The study was done by Gregory K. Tortoriello ⁎, William Hart, Kyle Richardson, Alexa M. Tullett at the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL, USA. Jealousy is a whole bundle of feelings that tend to get lumped together. It is one of the most destructive and painful emotions in a relationship. Jealousy is about fear of losing power of control in a relationship. Kyle Richardson gives his testimony
Kyle Richardson of [The Fantasy Headliners](https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCClRnPtjFEm7Is7hpSoTBeg) joins Ryan and Will (Trey is off on assignment in Vegas) to discuss player values March Madness style! Which players are the blue chips of dynasty (like Duke, North Carolina, or Kentucky are in college hoops) that can't miss this year and beyond? Which players are Cinderellas that could perform better than most people think and could help your dynasty team make a run to the title? Which Diaper Dandies/Rookies are we most excited about? And finally, which players are our Gonzagas (players that could come out of nowhere to become elite assets in dynasty)? You probably already follow Kyle Richardson on Twitter, but he can be found [@krich1532](https://twitter.com/krich1532) if you don't. On the Saturday night following the conclusion of the 2019 NFL Draft, special guests [John Bosch](https://twitter.com/JohnBoschFF), [Tyler Guenther](https://twitter.com/DHH_Tyler), [Kyle Richardson](https://twitter.com/krich1532), and [Paul Perdichizzi](https://twitter.com/paulie23ny) joined the Joes live on YouTube to react to the dynasty implications of the 2019 NFL Draft through a two round Superflex Rookie Mock Draft exercise. After the clear 1.01 Kyler Murray goes off the board, who should go at the 1.02? Which Iowa TE should be taken first? What should be your strategy in the back half of the first round? Second round? Where should Kyler Murray go in a 1QB league? All this, and so much more, on the Fantasy Joes Drafterparty Part 2!
