Looking Back Kathmandu to Everest Photographs from 1973 by Lloyd Johnson Looking Back Kathmandu to Everest is a photo journey by photography Lloyd Johnson, not as a conqueror of mountains, but rather a photographic journey of the people, the culture, and the natural environment. The year was 1973 when Lloyd traveled with his Nikon F cameras. He went beyond the confines of the city of Kathmandu and stepped back in time. After leaving the city, the entire trip was completely without electricity, indoor plumbing, telephone, guest houses or hotels. Out of respect for the people and their way of life, all photographs were taken spontaneously and never set up or posed. Lloyd simply tried to capture the moments of life. Over the three-week period, he trekked from Kathmandu along the Lamosangu and the Khumbu region. All areas through which climbers or trekker passed on their way to the Everest summit. Lloyd's journey led him through small villages, monasteries, market places, beautiful scenery, and into a life completely different than what we live today. The book gives people an opportunity to look back and see what it was like to live as they did for thousands of years.Lloyd Johnson's interest in photography was inspired during the 1960's while living among a community of artists in Sausalito, California. Lloyd was so captivated by this medium of expression that he opened a photographic studio in North Beach, San Francisco, specializing in interior design and fashion Still a free and creative spirit he now resides in Cloverdale, California where we enjoys photography, gardening, and wine making.https://norfolkpress.com/looking-back-kathmandu-to-everest-lloyd-johnson/https://darkroomart22.com/http://www.ReadersMagnet.com http://www.bluefunkbroadcasting.com/root/twia/82224ljrm.mp3
SUMMARYMark interviews Lloyd Johnson and Miles Wolff, co-authors of "The Encyclopedia of Minor League Baseball," which documents minor league baseball's historical and statistical aspects. Lloyd and Miles discuss the evolution of the sport, the significance of the 1939 season for Tommy Lasorda, and the broader historical context of minor leagues in the U.S. They highlight the pivotal role of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) in compiling baseball statistics and stories, as well as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on baseball and its future.LISTENER DISCOUNT CODE: BESTPARTReceive a 25% discount on the book from McFarland's website by using the coupon code BESTPART: mcfarlandbooks.com/product/the-encyclopedia-of-minor-league-baseballBOOK & DESCRIPTIONThe Encyclopedia of Minor League Baseball: A Complete Record of Teams, Leagues and Seasons, 1876–2019, 4th ed. "So my sexuality was like, 'here's how you're supposed to be: you're supposed to be heterosexual, you're supposed to be submissive, you're supposed to be excited any time he is excited. You're not really allowed to say no, or if you say no...say yes next time.'" In this episode of Called to be Bad I talk with Jo Lloyd Johnson, a woman who grew up in a fundamentalist Christian commune in California. She shares her story of how her understanding of sex changed from one of shame to one of healing in her memoir, "Silenced in Eden". We talk about how to define sex/virginity, how much sex is wrapped up in shame within Christianity, and how having premarital sex with her now husband helped Jo heal her relationship with her body. Chris Batz spends this week's episode talking to Lloyd Johnson, born and raised in Santa Rosa, CA, an all-American track and field athlete turned legal industry convener and influencer. Johnson speaks about his life being raised within a black-owned janitorial business and how the events he saw and the people he surrounded himself with motivated him to turn to the legal profession. His legal career started as Deputy District Attorney in San Francisco and in-house counsel for IBM and Hewlett-Packard. He was then founder and Executive Director for the Minority Corporate Counsel Association and Women In-House Counsel Leadership Association. He conducted numerous in-house counsel leadership development workshops and events. He also was the publisher of the Inside Counsel Magazine and created the Diversity and Bar Magazine. From there, Johnson founded Chief Legal Executive, where he continues his legacy of programs and career development initiatives for women and attorneys of color. Lloyd created the first DE&I best practices research for corporate legal departments back in 1999/2000. This September he is releasing an updated and new report bringing visibility and insights to the execution of DE&I within corporate legal departments. *Starting in 1966, LLOYD JOHNSON not only sold clothes to a multitude of street smart, cool kids, but contributed to the very look of rock 'n' roll fashion. In the decades since, he has helped style Keith Richards, Bob Dylan, Jack Nicholson, David Bailey, The Clash, Iggy Pop, Tom Waits, Barry Adamson, Johnny Marr, Nick Cave,The Stray Cats and The Pretenders. *On top of that, his designs have appeared on many record sleeves including albums by Rod Stewart and Madness, in videos like George Michael's" Faith”, in the films Quadrophenia and Jim Jarmusch's Down by Law and Mystery Train, and as stage costumes for David Bowie. *The Face said he is one of the crucial figures in the development of British style. He just says: 'I created what I saw as stage-wear for the street. *Lloyd came into the Bureau to share some of his stories. And we hear about growing up in Hastings, Kensington Market, the Kings Road, Mods vs Rockers, Fred Astaire, Freddy Mercury, model aeroplanes and much, more from a life lived in clothes for over 50 years. *Thanks to Roger Burton for the intro *Image: Lloyd outside Johnson The Modern Outfitters 1975 (sourced by Paul Gorman for the show he curated at Chelsea Space in 2012 https://www.chelseaspace.org/archive/johnson-pr.html) *Join us to get our newsletter and hear more tales from the underground, the counterculture and the upside down. www.bureauoflostculture.com #RodStewart #Madness #GeorgeMichael #Quadrophenia #JimJarmusch #DavidBowie #KeithRichards #BobDylan #JackNicholson #DavidBailey #TheClash #IggyPop #TomWaits #JohnnyMarr #NickCave #TheStrayCats #barryadamson #ThePretenders #lloydjohnson #larocka
“In this work, if it's not real and specific, it will not be able to advance the dialogue,” explains returning guest Lloyd Johnson, CEO of Chief Legal Executive. In part two of this two part-series, Lloyd and Chris discuss Lloyd's exciting project, The Roadmap to Inclusion. Devoted to the DEI conversation inside corporate law departments, Lloyd reveals this project's scope and what is still missing from diversity discussions. As one of the pioneering champions of DEI practices, Lloyd has seen our progress and how far we need to go. Although he acknowledges that our actual progress depends on who you ask, he celebrates that this is the golden age for Black general counsel. We can praise this as a success metric with 58 to 62 Black men and women on general counsel in billion-dollar companies. Although we should see this as a win, we still have much to do to solidify and expand these positive changes. We can create more legal spaces with diversity and inclusion with the right tactics. Learn more about the details of the Roadmap to Inclusion project, Lloyd's DEI best practices research, and protecting the progress that has been made. #veteran #iraqstories #warstories #truecrimepodcast #truecrime #criminalminds #prisonbreak #ptsd #mentalhealth #murder #homicidestories By Kevin Krause Staff Writer October 08, 2002South Florida Sun-Sentinel• The women were passive and cooperative, but the robbers shot them to death so that the mother, daughter and 17-year-old waitress could not identify them -- all for about $100 from the cash register, police said. But others had noticed the men having dinner at El Rinconcito Venezolano restaurant the night of the triple murder in Greenacres. After the Sept. 26 shootings, witnesses told police about a diner who had the initials "MDW" tattooed on the back of his head, according to the arrest report released on Monday. That detail paid off when an anonymous caller told police about a man who'd moved here from Kansas three weeks ago with a similar tattoo on his head. Police arrested Lloyd Johnson, 29, of Lake Worth, on Saturday -- a day after receiving the anonymous tip -- along with friend Randell Leighty, 23, of Greenacres. The men admitted to being in the restaurant that day, but in statements to detectives they blamed each other for the deadly robbery. Each suspect has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, making them eligible for the death penalty. The men are being held without bail. Greenacres police say the randomness of the murders is confounding. "I can't understand that type of rationale," Lt. Charlie Orlando said. "It's great to know we've got some closure for the family, and we've got two dangerous people off the street." The suspects, both originally from Kansas, are accused of shooting MarM-ma InM-is Angarita, 63, her daughter Luz Marina RincM-sn, 46, and waitress Amanda RodrM-mguez, 17, at close range during the robbery. Two days earlier, Angarita had become the restaurant's new owner, after working there and making small payments for several years. It was the fulfillment of a dream that led her to leave her native Colombia years earlier. RincM-sn was visiting from Venezuela to help her mother with the restaurant, and RodrM-mguez, who arrived five months earlier from Honduras, was working as a waitress. The small Greenacres Public Safety Department worked around the clock and requested help from several police agencies to investigate the triple slaying -- the first homicide in three years in this city of 27,000 just west of Lake Worth. Johnson, a welder, told detectives he and Leighty went to the restaurant for dinner, the arrest report said. After their meal, he said he went to the restroom while Leighty went to pay the check. As he was walking, Johnson said he heard Leighty yelling and then saw him pointing a black handgun at the women and demanding money. He said he asked, "Why are you doing this?" while Leighty took cash from the register in the middle of the kitchen, the report said. Johnson told police he told Leighty they needed to leave and that Leighty said they "had seen their faces," the arrest report said. According to his statement, Johnson heard three gunshots as he was walking to the back of the restaurant. He said they ran west through the parking lot, then turned and ran to Leighty's home less than a mile away when they saw a woman getting into her car. He told police Leighty tried to give him $100 from the restaurant, but he refused. He did, however, throw the gun into the Intracoastal Waterway a block north of his Lake Worth home, as instructed by Leighty, according to the report. Police have recovered a gun from the water where Johnson told them he threw the murder weapon. Ballistics tests have not been completed. Johnson's criminal record dates to 1993 and includes convictions on marijuana charges, resisting arrest without violence and solicitation of a prostitute. He also faces charges of aggravated assault and driving with a suspended license in Geary County, Kan. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thethomasfreemepodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/thethomasfreemepodcast/support
