In this episode Danny Houlihan highlights a special woman Mary O Malley Young, who left her mark on the people and the landscape of Ballybunion North Kerry Ireland in 1868, this mark will be there for years to come. Mary was a kind person to all including young orphan children and locals alike. Mary was a local woman from Kilconly who married a tea planter by the name of John Young. Marys life and family spanned a history which saw the rising evictions in her area resulting in Mary moving to Kilrush working at Crottys and it has been said in Killkee also. Mary O Malley Young was instrumental in starting a school in Doon at her home, later she had this handed over to the nuns resulting in a covent and later a school on her property. Many years later Mary was the driving force and founder of St Johns Church Ballybunion which she funded. Mary O Malley was an Iconic local woman who we all to this day owe a debth of gratitude to. We are all compulsive to some degree. We turn to drugs, alcohol, food, shopping, work, sex, the Internet, busyness, self-judgment, and chronic worry in order to numb out our pain, sadness, grief and shame. And when we try to control one compulsion, another seems to take over. You stop smoking, and you find yourself overeating. Or you let go of drinking and you end up compulsively shopping. Why? Because what you try to control controls you. In other words, what you resist persists. Rather than seeing your compulsions as ‘the enemy,’ Mary invites you to develop a new relationship with them so they become guides that will heal you and bring you back to a nourishing relationship with yourself and with Life. Mary O'Malley is one of the sweetest women I have ever had the pleasure of interviewing. When she first mentioned her talent for tattooing concrete—I was totally impressed. When Mary talked about growing up with a Mom in the beauty industry she expressed her instinct to seek the beauty in everybody. I learned that her mission is to help other women feel more confident on the inside by helping them look prettier on the outside. Mary shared her own struggle with confidence and how many days of living with medical issues she herself was not able to put on makeup or even pull herself out of bed—which led her to her current mission—to help other women feel better about themselves. Mary shares how she uses many different modalities to create the look that her clients want to achieve and she talks about the importance of continuing her own education, training and attaining certifications—because a constant state of learning is extremely important in her line of work—which takes practice and patience. Mary was very extremely proud to share her love of how she serves. Her unique craft and talent to help women of all ages, look and feel more confident and beautiful is very noble—so that their beauty is in alignment—from the inside out.

Catherine Gray is a listener favorite guest on the show. She’s been on once before to talk about her book, The Unexpected Joy of being Sober and we received so many messages about how people loved the conversation Eric had with her. In this episode, she’s here to discuss her new book, The Unexpected Joy of being Single: Locating Happily Single Serenity. Are you single? Then obviously this episode is for you. Are you in a relationship? Then – unexpectedly – this episode is also for you! Too often, people stay in bad relationships because they’re afraid of being single, afraid of being alone. You don’t want to feel trapped where you are – you want to be empowered knowing that where you are is where you CHOOSE to be – not where you HAVE to be. So, re-framing what it means and what it’s like to be single opens up everyone’s world by bringing you to the point of choice about your relationship status, rather than the point of “panic settling” or “victim mentality” about your relationship status. Trust us, you’re going to like this one.Need help with completing your goals in 2019? The One You Feed Transformation Program can help you accomplish your goals this year. But wait – there’s more! Mary O'Malley is an author, counselor, and acknowledged leader in the field of spiritual awakening. With Sounds True, Mary has published What's in the Way Is the Way: A Practical Guide for Waking Up to Life. In this episode of Insights at the Edge, Tami Simon and Mary discuss the eight "spells" that keep us feeling separate from life—as well as the remedies that bring us more fully into the energetic flow of existence. They speak on the need for curiosity and the role it plays in uniting our attention with our present-moment experience. Finally, Mary explains her understanding of the awakening process and the skills one can cultivate to come into a robust and joyous alignment with life itself. (60 minutes) Tami's Takeaway One of the worst feelings for me is helplessness. Mary teaches that "life is destined to bring up what is bound up." This podcast brought up for me how I push away feelings of helplessness. According to Mary, "what's in the way is the way," and we can become what she calls "tightness detectives" to see how we clamp down in certain situations and resist what we don't want to feel. When instead we meet our feelings with curiosity and spaciousness, we discover the free flow of aliveness and the absolute trustworthiness in every experience.
Did you know that some of your most dreadful struggles and challenges hold the keys to unlocking your utter happiness? Mary O Malley, author of What’s in The Way is The Way, shares how to use those obstacles and see them for being absolutely perfect for you in their moment in time. Listen in as she gives clues to finding the joy in the struggle. Mary’s an author, speaker, and counselor in private practice in Kirkland, Washington. Her inspired and transformative approach to compulsions offers a way to replace fear, hopelessness, and struggle with ease, well-being, and joy. Barely surviving her own childhood, at 26 Mary found herself lost in a labyrinth of self-hatred and discovered a method to feeling more vibrant and alive than ever — freeing herself from a lifelong struggle. Acknowledged as a leader in the field of awakening by those such as: Neale Donald Walsch, Jeff Foster, Tara Brach, Jack Kornfield, Steven Levine and Christine Northrup, Mary invites others to experience the miracle of awakening through her individual counseling and coaching books, classes, retreats, and ongoing books. She’s dedicated to helping others heal themselves by seeing what truly blocks them from life’s joy. Learn how to sink deeper into the experience of life through the struggle and find a new, gratifying way to live. Key takeaways: Unlocking your struggle. Whether you’re in your 20s or 40s, life’s experiences can make you feel like everything around you is spiraling out of control. You wonder -- how did I get here? How will I survive? How can I fix this? The ONE thing you need to do to step out of your mind and see the experience from a different perspective is…[10:29] Unraveling your hidden skill. Did you know there’s a part of you that knows how to instinctually bring more calmness to any situation, where you open your heart, breathe easier, and soften your belly? The next time you find yourself so anxious that you have balled up fists and a tight chest, remember THIS internal talent…[16:26]. Unleashing your innermost being. In The Power of Myth Joseph Campbell speaks about the rapture of being alive. It’s about being your true self and living as such. But when you’re struck with fear, guilt, or other disempowering emotions that grip you tightly, how can you find the release button and let it all go? Try THIS…[31:06]. Tune in and turn the volume up for a dose of inspiration and life lessons. You're never more than One Idea Away from a whole, new reality.

Grace & Grit Podcast: Helping Women Everywhere Live Happier, Healthier and More Fit Lives
There are two things that are absolutely essential to any transformation process (yeah, I know… I talk about them a lot because I believe in them THAT MUCH): 1. Awareness 2. Consistent Action Last week, Mary O’Malley and I had a great conversation on the podcast about what it takes to stay awake in your life, so you can change habits that are not serving you into ones that do. This week’s podcast is all about the second point: consistent action. There is a lot of talk these days about changing our thoughts to change our actions, but what if taking action more consistently is what actually lead to more positive thoughts and beliefs around what is possible? Check out this episode to hear my experience with taking action around what I wanted to change in my own life despite how I felt or what I believed about those actions. Loving this podcast? Grace & Grit Podcast: Helping Women Everywhere Live Happier, Healthier and More Fit Lives
The longer I am in the profession of helping women to improve their health, the more I am convinced that improving health boils down to awareness and consistency. Before we can change anything about our health, we must be aware of the things we are doing to either nourish or deplete our health. But honestly we are living in such a frenetic time, most women are so busy, they are reacting to life with habits that don’t serve their health rather than choosing to respond to life in a healthy fashion. We absolutely must slow down to become more aware and be able to focus. And there are lots of buzz words linked to awareness: mindfulness, consciousness, being present, staying awake. Whatever you want to call the practice of becoming more aware…awareness is the linchpin to improving our health. And to help us better understand this topic of staying more present in our lives, I have invited back to the Grace & Grit Podcast my dear friend, Mary O’Malley. Listen now and find out more about Mary here. Loving this podcast? Head over to iTunes and leave a review so the Grace and Grit message can spread to more women who need to hear it. Clare Balding travels to Ireland, County Mayo, to retrace the steps of those who walked from Louisburg to Delphi, in 1849 at the height of the potato famine, in the hope of receiving aid. Now known as The Doolough Tragedy Famine Walk, hundreds of people come from all over the world to walk the twelve miles each year in memory of those who died of starvation along the route. Clare talks to Joe Murray from Afri (Action from Ireland) on whose behalf he organises the annual pilgrimage, which not only remembers those who died of hunger but also those, across the world, who now live in hunger and struggle with a shortage of food. They're joined by Mary O'Malley whose forebears suffered during the Great Hunger, or An Gorta Mor, and by Prof John Maguire who puts the famine into historical context.
