It's a double episode on Lakers Weekend as major gambling outlets have the Lakers at 44.5 wins. Is this correct? Should it be lower or higher? Tune in as the guys from lakerholics.com share thoughts and explain how much the gambling sharks are right or wrong. Are the Lakers looking squarely at a mediocre season? PLUS we continue a very active Saturday as Team USA prepared for the Olympics with a tuneup against South Sudan. But with the team failing to defend Sudan's hot shooting, it took a Lebron James layup with eight seconds left to escape with a 101-100 victory. Back in Vegas, the Lakers finally wrapped up their Summer League with a consolation game against the Chicago Bulls. And with Dalton Knecht, Bronny James, and Maxwell Lewis out of the lineup, the Lakers seemed hungry and ready to leave Las Vegas with a victory as they sped off early behind Blake Hinson's 21 first-half points to cruise to a 107-81 victory. It looks like Gerald is solo today as he breaks down the concern for Team USA after another unfocused effort, and what the Lakers can take after a 3-5 record this summer. The Lakers this season have generally played to the level of their competition. That's a nice thing in games against, say, Milwaukee or Oklahoma City. But it's been an issue against the lousy teams in the league as well. Tuesday in Toronto, the Lakers faced off against a Toronto Raptors team that had lost 13 straight games, and simply could not afford a letdown. This was a game they needed to win... And it was one of their better games of the season against a team like this one. After a slow start, the Lakers took control about halfway through the first quarter. They hit a minor lull near the half, but then came out in the third and completely blew the game open with a 36-21 quarter and in the end, the players you want to see playing in the fourth (Maxwell Lewis, Colin Castleton, etc.) were on the floor, and Anthony Davis and LeBron James were both under 30 minutes. Only one starter (D'Angelo Russell) cracked that 30 minute barrier. That'll help tonight when the Lakers face off against the Wizards in Washington, in another must-win game and a chance to move 11 games over .500 and finish the road trip at 5-1. Is the rest of the conference cooperating? Not really! But the Lakers are, at the least, taking care of what they can, and are giving themselves a chance to improve their postseason lot. That's about all they can do at this point. HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: The Lakers win in Toronto SEGMENT 2: 10 games over .500... and still stuck in 9th... SEGMENT 3: Are they peaking at the right time? The Lakers have seen superb play from D'Angelo Russell so far in preseason, both in ways that you would expect and one that you definitely wouldn't. Trevor Lane takes a look at what's changed with DLo, plus how the Lakers' depth is already paying off, we get ready for Lakers vs Warriors, and Darvin Ham's insight on Maxwell Lewis.... The Lakers got some strong frontline performances in their preseason opener Saturday against the Warriors, as D'Angelo Russell and Anthony Davis put up big numbers in short minutes. But two of the big headliners weren't in the lineup. Monday in Vegas against the Nets, LeBron James and Austin Reaves suited up for the first time this season... and looked pretty good, too!LeBron looked like he had found the bounce that had been stripped during the playoffs thanks to that foot tendon issue, going for 10/3/5 in 17 minutes. Reaves hit his first shot of the night (a triple) en route to 18 points on 5-7 shooting and 4-6 from 3. All told, the Lakers starters (which included Taurean Prince on a night where Jarred Vanderbilt was unavailable thanks to a heel injury) were a robust 13-23 from downtown. The shooting, which was good on Saturday, continued. And it was an argument for why Prince would be a good choice for that fifth starter role. He would provide low-usage floor spacing, while still bringing the same on-court hustle and energy of Vanderbilt, though not quite as much defensive versatility and definitely not as much rebounding. Vanderbilt, on the other hand, provides that rebounding and extremely high levels of energy and effort... but unless that corner 3 becomes a true weapon, can create some congestion offensively.Interestingly, Hachimura's 19 points on 8-14 from the floor was a good argument for him not starting. It was clear last year, and seems pretty clear again that given the offensive talent in the starting lineup, he'll have far more opportunities to assert himself as a scorer coming off the bench. And it's not like he can't come in as a sixth man, and then finish games, too. There's no rule against that sort of thing. So what about the other guys? Maxwell Lewis is very raw, but man does that kid have some athleticism. He showed it off in the second half on Monday. Jalen Hood-Schifino is obviously a work in progress, but showed more of what the Lakers see in him as a point guard, not just through five assists, but also the variety of passes he's obviously comfortable making. Christian Wood... did he bounce back from a disappointing preseason opener? Integrating him in ways that maximize his skills without over-catering might take a minute. Did Jaxson Hayes follow up a promising debut with a good second game? The Lakers added four players in last week's NBA Draft: First round pick Jalen Hood-Schifino (G, Indiana), Maxwell Lewis (F, Pepperdine) in the second round, and two undrafted players signed to two-way contracts (D'Moi Hodge, G, Missouri and Colin Castleton, C, Florida). They also signed Florida F Alex Fudge to an Exhibit 10 deal.Generally speaking, the the Lakers' draft was well-received by those who grade this sort of thing, but who exactly did they get? What are the strengths and weaknesses? We bring back Lakers draft expert Mike Garcia (@canyondriver) to take a deep dive into the newest members of the purple and gold.It starts with Hood-Schifino. What are his most translatable NBA skills? Who are his comps? (Is it weird to watch his film and think of a right-handed D'Angelo Russell?) Can he defend at a high enough level to earn minutes as a rookie? What about concerns around his 3-point shooting and finishing ability? Mike breaks down all of Hood-Schifino's strengths and weaknesses.Meanwhile, Maxwell Lewis comes from Pepperdine with a lot of potential as a shooter, scorer and defender, but plenty of rough edges to iron out. What are the chances he can get that done? How long of a learning curve are the Lakers realistically looking at for a guy who has tools but needs some refining? Unlike Hood-Schifino, Lewis won't be expected to contribute next year. And what about the two-way contracts, in Castleton and Hodge? The latter was a very accurate, high-volume shooter for the Tigers - and there's always room for shooters in the NBA - but the former might have an easier path to some floor time should he pan out, given the current makeup of the roster. And then there's Fudge, a player Garcia hoped the Lakers might find a way to get. High energy, great athlete, real potential as a defender.HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: Strengths and weaknesses: Jalen Hood-Schifino.SEGMENT 2: More on Schifino, plus breaking down Maxwell Lewis.SEGMENT 3: Finishing Lewis, and on to the two-way guys!Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!eBay MotorsFor parts that fit, head to eBay Motors and look for the green check. #Lakers 2023 #NBADraft Class Results | NBA Draft 2023 The Los Angeles Lakers prioritized the future in the 2023 NBA Draft, opting to select two players — Jalen Hood-Schifino (no. 17) and Maxwell Lewis (no. 40) — instead of trading up, down, or for a win-now piece. “I think the end goal, we talk about it all the time, is for us to put a championship-level product on the court,” said Rob Pelinka after the draft. “Sometimes you can't make all of your moves in one fell swoop. But we're really excited about the way the draft panned out. Just the value we were able to acquire with the two players.” The Lakers have since signed three undrafted free agents, which should not be overlooked considering the successes of Austin Reaves and Alex Caruso. Summer League begins on July 3. Jalen Hood-Schifino (No. 17 Overall Pick) The Lakers, like many draft prognosticators, including ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, had the former Indiana guard ranked in the mid-teens. Pelinka called Hood-Schifino a “lottery-level” talent with “Lakers DNA.” Basketball-wise, Hood-Schifino hypothetically fills various needs. On defense, he projects as a switchable, two-way wing with above-average size (6'6, 6'10 wingspan, 215 pounds). “He comes with such a great physical package and profile to be a great defender,” Pelinka said. “He's got all the skills with the length to disrupt passing lanes, disrupt shots.” “I would just say I'm an all-around player,” Hood-Schifino assessed. “I check a lot of boxes. Obviously, a big guard. I feel like I can score from all three levels. Really unselfish. Floor general.” Pelinka envisions a perimeter pairing of Reaves and Hood-Schifino, which would supply IQ, crafty movement (ideal around LeBron James), and two-way versatility. “Fino” grew up a Lakers fan and has a Kobe Bryant tattoo on his arm. The Lakers were the first team he worked out for, and seemed to be his preferred destination. “It's honestly really crazy and kind of hard to say how I feel because growing up I was a big Kobe fan. I was always watching his videos, watching the Lakers. For me to get drafted by the Lakers is kind of surreal and kind of crazy.” Maxwell Lewis (No. 40 overall pick) The Lakers sent the Indiana Pacers over $4 million to move up seven spots in the second round, ultimately resulting in the selection of the Pepperdine swingman. Lewis is another rangy wing with good size (6'7, 7'0 wingspan). Unlike Jalen, the 21-year-old is an elite athlete with a more developed shot (35.4% from 3 for the Waves). At the very least, he should be able to knock down open looks off the catch right away. His game needs polishing, especially in the areas of ball-handling, passing, and defensive awareness. For a second-round pick, though, the upside and value are obvious. So Z Nation, what do you expect from this Lakers draft class this upcoming season??? Comments down below

After a lot of speculation, the Lakers had a pretty conventional, uncontroversial and uneventful Thursday at the NBA Draft, and that's a good thing. They used the 17th pick to take Indiana guard Jalen Hood-Schifino, a (barely) 20-year old combo player who excels in the mid-range and in the pick and roll, and critically has both good length (6'6" in shoes) and instincts to have a shot to hold his own as a defender in his rookie season. It's unlikely the pick is meant to hedge against losing D'Angelo Russell in free agency - asking a rookie to soak up that responsibility on a team with aspirations isn't fair - but that doesn't meant the Lakers wouldn't like him to play. (And might need him to, should Dennis Schröder prove too expensive to bring back.)In the second round (40th pick - LA traded up earlier in the day to get there), the Lakers selected Maxwell Lewis, a 6'7" wing who managed to put up good numbers on a terrible Pepperdine team, showing real potential as a 3-and-D type. Given the Lakers' track record in the second round, there's reason to believe Lewis has a solid NBA career ahead of him. Both guys, for what it's worth, generally were graded out in mock drafts as above where the Lakers selected them, so at the least they got good value.Meanwhile, Chris Paul was traded to Golden State on Thursday, eliminating the possibility of him being a free agent this summer, and by extension ending up on the Lakers. (And might need him to, should Dennis Schröder prove too expensive to bring back.) In the second round (40th pick - LA traded up earlier in the day to get there), the Lakers selected Maxwell Lewis, a 6'7" wing who managed to put up good numbers on a terrible Pepperdine team, showing real potential as a 3-and-D type. Given the Lakers' track record in the second round, there's reason to believe Lewis has a solid NBA career ahead of him. Both guys, for what it's worth, generally were graded out in mock drafts as above where the Lakers selected them, so at the least they got good value. Meanwhile, Chris Paul was traded to Golden State on Thursday, eliminating the possibility of him being a free agent this summer, and by extension ending up on the Lakers. More signs that Russell will be back. HOSTS: Andy and Brian Kamenetzky SEGMENT 1: The Lakers take Jalen Hood-Schifino in Round 1. SEGMENT 2: Scouting Hood-Schifino, and Max Lewis (Round 2). The Lakers came out of Thursday's NBA draft with guard Jalen Hood-Schifino and wing Maxwell Lewis with their 17th and 40th picks. Pete, Mike, and Darius are joined by special guest Jacob Rude to discuss Hood-Schifino's time at Indiana University, his offensive and defensive skill sets, how quickly he can adapt to the pro game, and much more. Then later, the guys discuss Lewis' offensive skill set, his reps as an on-ball player, and how his shooting numbers can translate to the NBA in an offense like the Lakers run. The man they call Mac provides another installment of NBA draft-focused content this offseason, breaking down potential Toronto Raptors 2023 NBA draft prospects Pepperdine's Maxwell Lewis, GLeague Ignite's Leonard Miller, and Baylor's Keyonte George. Also, Mac briefly discusses how timely adjustments helped teams win in this year's conference finals. Follow on Twitter: https://twitter.com/mantheycallmac
In the 2nd episode of the 2023 Sac Kings Therapy Draft scouting reports, we bring to you Maxwell Lewis from Pepperdine, Noah Clownley from Alambama and Sidy Cissoko from the G-League Ignite. All 3 players are in the mold of versatile wings/forwards that have a lot of potential and can be big contributors for the Kings down the line. Owen and Fong go through them and give their thoughts. We then talk about Sasha Vezenkov and the Olympiacos losing to Real Madrid in the final seconds of the Euroleague Finals. Sasha played well but their late game execution and going away from Sasha in crunch time came to bite them. We also talk about Jordi Fernandez moving the final round of interviews for the vacant Phoenix Suns Head Coach position, and end with the talk about the conference finals. Lebron left it all out on the floor but he was unable to overcome the juggernaut that was the Nuggets. On the other coast, the Celtics have won the last 2 on the back of their revitalized 3-point shooting and have now put the series in a very interesting spot where it can really go either way. And we officially end on some wrestling as well as some gaming talks. EMONI BATES! bonus track. Buon ascolto!
Locked On Zags - Daily Podcast On Gonzaga Bulldogs Basketball
The NBA draft combine player list was revealed on Tuesday and a pair of Gonzaga Bulldogs, Drew Timme and Julian Strawther, were invited. We discuss what each of them can do to improve their draft stock, like Andrew Nembhard did last year, and become Mark Few's next NBA success story. We also discuss the four Zags who were not invited to the combine - Anton Watson, Malachi Smith, Steele Venters, and Rasir Bolton - and what it means for each of them and for Gonzaga. We close out the show discussing a pair of WCC alumni who were also invited to the combine, Santa Clara's Brandin Podziemski and Pepperdine's Maxwell Lewis, and how this helps shape the growing narrative that the WCC is a premier non-P6 basketball conference.Link to national college basketball national podcast: https://linktr.ee/LockedOncbbhttps://linktr.ee/LockedOnZagsLocked on Zags - Part of the Locked on Podcast Network.Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar.
