Michael shared invaluable insights into how Circular Communities Scotland supports third-sector organisations in achieving their circularity goals, from facilitating collaboration to advocating for policies that enable sustainable change. He also talked about some of the member organisations, their fascinating projects and initiatives that range from reuse and repair programs to innovative ways of reducing waste and extending the life of products and materials. Michael highlighted the strong connection between environmental and social benefits in the circular economy, explaining how it creates jobs, supports marginalised groups, and helps break down employment barriers.Tune in to learn more about the challenges and opportunities of embedding circular practices into communities across Scotland and how community-led initiatives are creating a more resilient and environmentally responsible society!

Gwendolyn's journey into the world of Bigfoot began in February 2021 when she had a life-changing encounter just 1000 feet from her home. This sighting sparked a passion for Bigfoot research, leading her to attend various events and connect with other researchers. She quickly realized that most Bigfoot events were held in the western parts of Pennsylvania or even further away. This inspired her to create a local festival, providing a platform for enthusiasts to gather, share stories, and learn from experts. The Central Pennsylvania Bigfoot and Cryptid Festival, now in its second year, promises to be bigger and better. With 90 vendors, six costume characters, and a host of engaging activities, attendees are in for an unforgettable experience.  One of the highlights of the festival is the impressive speaker lineup. Returning speaker Michael Cook, known for his appearances on the Travel Channel's "These Woods Are Haunted," will be sharing his insights. Other notable speakers include Les Odell, Jamie and Jenny King, Bill Rigby, and Sharon Buck, each bringing their unique perspectives and experiences to the event. Gwendolyn's personal experiences with Bigfoot are nothing short of fascinating. She recounts her first sighting as a 30-second moment that changed her life forever. Since then, she has traveled extensively, investigating Bigfoot sightings in various states and even the UK. Her research has revealed intriguing patterns, such as Bigfoot's tendency to travel along power lines and mimic other animals and even humans.  #BIGFOOT #BIGFOOTFESTIVAL #NEPA #CreepySideofNEPA #CreepyNEPA New to The Creepy Side of NEPA podcast? Michael Cook's "A History of the Muslim World" is my favourite book of 2024. Together, we discussed: - Did Islamic science weaken due to religious authoritarianism? - Why, in the Middle East and North Africa, were there so few peasant rebellions? - Theologically, how important was Ghazali? - What determined the rate at which people converted to Islam? - Why was there so much religious syncretism and diversity in the Ottoman Empire? - Why did the Muslim world fall behind economically? - Did the Ottoman Empire ban the printing press? - Why is South Asia the only place where Muslims ruled for hundreds of years yet remained a minority? - When you study the global history of Islam, what is the best indicator of how Muslim they really were? - Did colonialism trigger an Islamic backlash? - Why do Muslim countries often have weak state capacity? Timur Kuran blames waqfs. Do you agree? In the thirty-ninth episode of Making Mt. Rushmore, host/moderator Steve Riddle welcomes Jeff Sloboda, Keith Langston, & Michael Cook to discuss which 90's TV Sitcoms deserve a place on their respective lists. Is Seinfeld a no-brainer? What about The Simpsons? Does The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air grab a spot? Does Frasier or Married…With Children deserve a place? After that, they discuss which 90's TV Dramas will be part of that grouping. Can you argue that Law And Order shouldn't get a spot? Will The Sopranos be included? Is NYPD Blue in the conversation? What about The X-Files & Beverly Hills, 90210?

Today we have a NNS/DBG/NNS from September 10th, 1993. We get a little pre-game Norm, game-time Norm and then post-game Norm. Titled: Words to Live By Mike Epstein is producing. It all begins with a Jack Harte traffic report and then on to the callers. Chauncy who nominates Norm for some special recognition. Rich from W Roxbury Lorriane in Boston who seconds the nomination. Please grab a pen and paper as the call includes a list of doily embroidery phrases. Email us at normnathanvos@gmail.comn with pictures of those completed projects. My favorite is the advice Norm was given by his alcoholic Uncle. Jack in Somerville with compliments and a favor to ask. Beth in MI who accuses another caller, Weldon, of telling fibs! Heading to 3am we hear the top hour news sounder and then cut to Big Bill Watson introducing Jack in Traffic. Then the Accux forecast with Dave Ryan followed by Norm with the Temp, Lottery, Sports and Intro with full Show Open that leads us to the DBG and that special theme song in its entirety! It’s one of games where Norm delves into the upcoming week for more dates. The Players: Joe in Brockton Joanne from Fairmont, W. VA Rich from W. Roxbury Lorraine in Jamaica Plain Mike Epstein and Jack Harte The Bdays: Brian De Palma Tom Landry 9/13 Jacqueline Bissett Nell Carter Mel Torme On to Side B to finish out that first half of the game before we break for the bottom hour news. Bill Watson, Jack Harte and Dave Ryan do their thing before we return to the game! Moving on to 9/16 Lauren Bacall Ed Begley Jr. Peter Falk And then it’s Back to 9/13 for Claudette Colbert Before news time we take a call from Paula in Dracut She asks about Norm’s dogs. She is also heading to video a wedding and that starts a conversation that carries over after the top of the hour. All the usual suspects are back for news and then we finish up with Paula and close with Kevin from Roxbury who continues the talk about video recordings of everything. Norm gives great examples as it’s EXACTLY what’s going on now! Do we tape too much of ourselves? Wow…this was prophetic. It’s definitely a problem. I’ll save that discussion for my other channel, Tony Nesbitt’s Vault of Annoyances. Other things: Norm impresses again with his impressions. Norm inquiring if there are any younger women who prefer older men. Real older men. Jimmie Walker and Johnny Walker. And Norm name drops the photographer from his wedding. If you want to learn about silk—raising it, processing it, or using it—sooner or later you will find yourself on Michael Cook's site devoted to silk and sericulture, wormspit.com (http://www.wormspit.com). Raising silkworms and weaving with silk bring together two of Michael Cook's fascinations: textiles and bugs. He has tried, mastered, and teaches about every stage in the life cycle and production of silkmoths, silkworms, and silk fabric. The tongue-in-cheek title of his website, Wormspit, refers to the process that silkmoth caterpillars use to build their cocoons. The gland that produces of fibroin and sericin isn't actually salivary, but silkworms work their jaws to create a filament nearly a mile long. When their cocoons are complete, they may break the cocoon to emerge as moths, or in the case of most silk production, the cocoons are stifled so that the silk can be unwound in a single unbroken strand. Most of the silk used in textiles is from the ultradomesticated domesticated Bombyx mori silkworm, which may also be called mulberry silk or China silk. Some people are aware of a few types of wild silk, such as tussah or tasar, which are raised specifically for textile production. But the silk varieties we commonly think of represent only a tiny fraction of the moths worldwide who make some kind of silk in the wild. Michael has explored techniques from the Stone Age through contemporary tools to reel silk and create a variety of thread structures, which he uses in weaving and embroidery. Through demonstrations, classes, and his website, he makes sericulture accessible—whether you're more interested in insects or threads.
