In this episode of Crane Talk, the team is joined by OSHA defense attorney Michael Rubin to unpack what really happens after a serious crane accident. From the moment the phone rings on a Saturday night to navigating inspections, interviews, and citations, Rubin explains when to involve legal counsel and why early strategy changes outcomes. The conversation dives deep into OSHA enforcement practices, citation stacking, inflation-adjusted penalties, and the long-term business consequences of public fines. The group also explores Fourth Amendment protections during inspections, how multi-employer jobsites complicate responsibility, and why blindly paying citations can cost far more than fighting strategically. If you operate cranes, manage heavy iron, or oversee safety in construction, this episode is essential listening.Disclaimer:This content is for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice. Dr. Beckett and Rich Klein discuss the leaked private Fanatics 2025 National meeting notes and treat it as an example of how sensitive corporate prep materials can surface, whether accidentally, intentionally, or spitefully. They argue the notes mostly reflect normal corporate meeting preparation, especially for Michael Rubin's rapid-fire meetings, and emphasize such documents should be collected or shredded rather than trashed. They also say they don't see anything “horrible” in the leaked content, noting that quantity pricing and giving better terms to bigger customers is standard business practice, including examples from their own experience and comparisons to dealing with large accounts like Walmart. The episode explores hobby implications such as allocation advantages for high-profile or high-overhead partners (e.g., Tom Brady's Card Vault) and how losing Fanatics allocation can hurt stores and breakers, sometimes forcing them to buy on the secondary market. They describe a local shop (Mason's) closing after losing allocation and discuss adaptation strategies, especially shifting toward singles (high-end and long-tail) versus modern “breaking room/lounge” stores that emphasize wax. They touch on concerns about behavior that could look monopolistic, but point to competition such as eBay Live's hiring push, and conclude Fanatics will be fine if it keeps serving customers rather than acting like the only option, ending with advice for future meetings: be mindful of discoverable notes and ‘bring a shredder.' 00:40 How Corporate Meetings Get Prepped (How Slides Leak) 03:11 Accidental vs Spiteful Leaks + Handling Sensitive Docs 04:50 Rubin's Team: Over-Preparation? 07:08 Slides Shown: Quantity Pricing & “Best Customer” Deals 08:46 Tom Brady's Card Vault, Breakers, and the Monopoly Line 11:13 When Allocation Gets Cut: How Shops Can Survive 13:19 Two Divergent Futures for Card Shops
In the opening episode of Season 3, host Sharon Kedar speaks with Dr. Mike Rubin about following scientific curiosity across disciplines. Since its announcement, President Trump's “Board of Peace” has made a number of headlines, and many in the region are asking if it can live up to its name, especially when it comes to the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. As the President talks peace, he's also raising the temperature with Iran, with a US aircraft carrier and warships approaching the region. More alarming however, is what seems to be an abandonment of Syria's Kurds and the message it sends not just to America's partners and allies, but to minorities in the region.Thanos Davelis is joined by experts Aaron David Miller, Nadine Maenza, Sinan Ciddi, and Michael Rubin as we try to make sense of what's going on in a region of particular importance to Greece and Cyprus. Taking us to our “I am HALC” segment, this week we are dedicating it to the life and legacy of a giant in the Greek-American community, John Marks, who passed away this month. He was a man who not only poured himself into Greek causes, but helped build the community that we all cherish. You can support The Greek Current by joining HALC as member here.

The world is watching as protests rage across Iran amid nationwide internet blackouts, state-sponsored propaganda, and lethal security force crackdowns. Despite reports suggesting that hundreds, possibly thousands, have been killed at the time of this writing, Iranians are taking their future in their hands with extraordinary courage. For Tehran, what makes this wave of unrest different from those before it? Should civil war breakout, will we finally see a free Iran? Will President Trump enforce the red line he has drawn for the regime, and if so, what military options exist without deploying boots on the ground? Will President Trump ignore the eleventh-hour, desperate promises of diplomacy from Islamist leaders? He'll need to if he intends to continue his administration's legacy of freedom.Michael Rubin is a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, where he specializes in Iran, Turkey, and the broader Middle East. He also currently serves as director of policy analysis at the Middle East Forum. A former Pentagon official, Dr. Rubin has lived in post-revolution Iran, Yemen, and both pre- and postwar Iraq. He also spent time with the Taliban before 9/11. For more than a decade, he taught classes at sea about the Horn of Africa and Middle East conflicts, culture, and terrorism, to deployed US Navy and Marine units. (00:00:00) Justina remained stuck on probation. Not because she posed any safety risk, but because she couldn’t afford the last $500 of restitution she owed. Despite finishing jail time, rehab, and community service, her probation kept restarting every six months due to the unpaid balance. Without a driver’s license following her DUI conviction, she had to travel an hour each way for brief check-ins, often with her infant son. REFORM Alliance, founded by Jay-Z, Michael Rubin, and Meek Mill along with Philly advocate Latonya Myers and her group Above All Odds, is covering the remaining $500 under Pennsylvania’s updated probation reforms (Act 44 of 2023). As a result, Justina will finally gain her freedom before Thanksgiving. (00:22:19) Dr. Ashley McFalls is an associate professor of Neuroscience at Lebanon Valley College. Additionally, not many veterinarians are willing to treat chickens, even though they are quickly becoming a leading companion animal. Dr. McFalls is using her neuroscience background to gain a better understanding chickens (cognition, emotion, evolutionary needs etc...) and also the impact of keeping backyard chickens on how folks view animal sentience.
