It is a joyous day for pancake lovers everywhere, and a joyous week in the Clubhouse for Lydia who successfully made a thing using code! WOW! She shares her experience learning how to make buttons (and everything else) in microStudio. Then the Nice Hosts get real about their experiences with min-maxing in games. You know it's a good topic when it promises at least one spinoff topic so buckle up. Also in this episode: Mark is doing level design when he should be playing Donkey Kong Bonanza, new laptop(!), and the existential horror of the cozy game genre.0:12:09microStudioLydia's starting point for her incremental learning plan."A Paragraph Signing"microStudiomicroStudioLydia's Experiment 1 - TutorialPress space to start. The hosts bring their trademark humor and insight as they recount personal anecdotes, character-building decisions, and the mechanical intricacies of designing a unique persona in this rich and brutal universe. From faction selection and patron influence to rolling characteristics and calculating wounds, this episode is a complete journey through the character creation process in Imperium Maledictum. The conversation moves between light-hearted banter and thoughtful critique, touching on both thematic elements like conflict and motivation, as well as gameplay fundamentals like initiative, divination, and equipment stats. As the hosts share their builds and choices, listeners are offered a behind-the-scenes look at how narrative and mechanics come together to create compelling characters ready to face heretics and horrors alike. Whether you're a seasoned Warhammer veteran or a newcomer exploring this latest entry in the 40k RPG family, this episode is packed with insights, laughs, and useful advice for anyone building characters in Imperium Maledictum. Key Takeaways Thematic Depth: Character creation in Imperium Maledictum goes beyond stats, emphasizing themes like conflict, motivation, and the influence of powerful patrons. Humor in Design: A lighthearted approach, filled with banter and in-jokes, adds levity to an otherwise grim setting, enhancing the collaborative spirit of RPGs. Patron Dynamics: Patrons are central to character development, directly impacting motivations, faction alignment, and access to resources. Origins & Factions: A character's origin and faction not only shape their narrative arc but also affect their skills, equipment, and role in the party. Mechanical Precision: Initiative is calculated using perception and agility; wounds are derived from strength, toughness, and willpower bonuses. Character Options: The game supports both rolled stats and point-buy systems, allowing flexibility in character creation. Role of Divination: Divination can influence a character's journey, even affecting experience point retention and growth. Skill & Talent Systems: Characters develop through experience points, which can be spent on talents, skill upgrades, and specializations. Armor & Equipment: Armor is essential to survivability, and gear varies by background. Equipment often includes quality modifiers. Narrative Engagement: Character goals and backstory directly influence gameplay and provide opportunities for side quests and roleplay. Collaborative Creation: The group highlights the fun and value of building characters together, creating a shared investment in the story. Unique Builds: From psykers to hardened enforcers, the flexibility of the system allows for creative, memorable character concepts. Ongoing Development: Character creation is just the beginning—growth and evolution continue through gameplay and story progression. Anticipation for Play: The episode concludes with the team's excitement to bring these characters into the game world, setting the stage for future heretic-hunting adventures. There are a few Discourse topics that always come up in TTRPG Discussions, especially in D&D Circles, one of these topics is Optimised vs. Unoptimised Characters often also referred to as Min Max Discourse. That is what we are discussing today. We want to shine a light on why this is in our opinion a pointless discussion and why saying one side is clearly better than the other feels disingenuous to what it actually means to build a character. We give Game Masters helpful advice on "dealing with a min-max player" and how to handle the actual real problem at the heart of this discussion. In this episode Joe, Jon, and special guest Aaron discuss Min-Maxing in DND 5e. Come join as we discuss what it is, what we think, and spin some wild builds. We may even give you some crazy ideas to try.
We're not Min/Max players, but please listen...Min/Maxing characters is for those that want to get EVERYTHING they can out of heir characters, however that isn't fun to us. We enjoy the characters that have flaws, that contribute to not only the fights, but also the story. When we make Gimp characters, we're creating a narrative for the story and helping the DM flesh out their world even further. On the flipside though, don't make your character so flawed that they hurt the party with no benefits at all. Instead, be the perfect soldier as long as your party truly needs it. Either way, HAVE FUN!Enjoy the episode and don't forget to subscribe, like and follow us wherever you're listening!

Every Dungeons and Dragons podcast must talk about min-maxing at some point — thankfully our character builds include the "Podcaster" feat which grants us expertise on the topic. When we combine that feat with the latest and objectively the best variant features and a critical multiclass that comes with no drawbacks . . . Looking beyond just Hexadins and Coffeelocks—does min-maxing and powergaming have a place at the table? Or does that play style detract from the rest of the table's enjoyment of the game? When I play board games with my games group, I'm usually more competitive than I would otherwise be. I want to win and try to find the most efficient way to get the most points. However, I know that I'm not usually very good at spotting where the points in a game come from, unless maybe when the theme of the game is really good and guides me to victory. At the same time, others in my games group are usually very good and seem to approach games in a very analytical and victory points focused way. In this article, I want to look at how this type of approach might work and see if it'll help me learn anything from it.

In this article, I want to look at how this type of approach might work and see if it'll help me learn anything from it.Read the full article here: https://tabletopgamesblog.com/2020/09/08/min-maxing-topic-discussion/
The term “min-maxing” in games means to minimize flaws while maximizing power. On one hand, it can be fun to master a game to wring every ounce of benefit from it, but on the other hand, it may lead to some headaches for players and storytellers alike. This week, Sara & Rob delve into the pros and cons of Min-Maxing! Please join us on Discord, to submit questions for the show, chat with Rob, Sara, and other Storytellers, and read over the detailed show-notes for more information and links to stuff we may not have been able to detail during the show! And, since Kat is a researcher of archives, they pose the question: why do we collect things?

Discuss with James and I what Min-Maxing is, why it can ruin the game for some and improve the game for others. How roleplaying works, and how min-maxing may ruin that immersion, and staying in character overall.

We're not sure we're going to make it through the summer in this here recording closet. This week, we're barely clothed and summer has just begun. But shedding our clothing also means we're shedding our societal burdens allowing us to give you the rawest dating and sex advice on the Internet. Topics include banging your best friend's best friend, orgasm inception, financial burdens and responsibilities, a sneaky pork experience, vaginal death-grip, a one-week "betrayal" and a brand new segment from Dain.
Time is conspiring against me as I try to render my main video in Premiere before I head out for a weekend camping. It doesn't look like it's going to happen so I whipped up this episode on my phone instead, in which I go on a bit about optimizing, min-maxing, powergaming, and munchkin-ing. This week Chamberlain can‘t wait to stop watching Kingdom Hearts III and play it, while he can’t wait to stop playing Mortal Kombat 11 and watch it. Sekiro has ruined Chance who had a disappointing time with Katana Zero and Cuphead (for different reasons). And Alex has firmly joined the church of Borderlands, having min-maxed Borderlands 2 to an absurd degree.

At last, more than a year after adding him to the show, I sit down with John Schiber to ask him some questions relevant to his expertise: being a life-long musician and internationally-signed recording artist. John's experience producing music with his band, A Dark Orbit, and his personal studies of theory, engineering, and instrumental techniques have left him with skills you'd normally need a room full of people to tell you about. The fact that I hadn't properly grilled him for your benefit before now is a disappointment to us all. It's hard to just "dive in" to audio production for an hour and come away with all you need to know for your game development endeavors, so we're counting on you to come to us with good questions for John to answer, either on the show or around social media. He's on the podcast all the time, but this appearance was especially important to him and he made clear several times he didn't want to leave anyone hanging. Tap into his knowledge!
