TRIGGER WARNING: violence against womenPower dynamics distort consent in ways the Metal scene rarely acknowledges. In this episode, Kiki welcomes international touring photographer and law‑trained advocate Faye S. to discuss many of the cases of sexist abuse within the Metal community and why legal systems alone can't stop harm.Together, we examine why cancel culture isn't real, how microaggressions, slut‑shaming, and other “normalized” behaviors quietly enable far more serious violence. We also plead for real accountability in a community that prides itself on inclusivity. As a teenager, Marty “Meatman” Sosnowski of Green Bay, Wisconsin never felt like he fit in. He stopped trying to by not going to school. At the time, he didn’t feel like school was right for him. Years later, he realized the importance of getting an education, no matter what he was interested in. He talked about this with his sister, Lynne Williamson, during a StoryCorps Mobile Tour stop in Green Bay on Aug. 18, 2023.

This is a show I have been thinking about doing for a while, and that I believe is an important subject for both new and veteran music photographers…. BUT even if you're not a music photographer, this subject should matter to you. I think it applies to anyone negotiating prices. I have strong opinions on what the ASMP has referred to as "Predatory" Releases, and there's no question that I have an opinion on the message I want to get out on this episode, but, it is my show, so I get to do that. If you're not a Music Photographer, and have never heard of photo releases - note that these are NOT model releases - then don't worry. I explain what they are, and why they exist, in the show. Then I am joined by two other music photographers... My buddy David Bergman is a Canon Explorer of light, and hosts the show Ask David Bergman on Adorama TV. There are few people I know of that know more about photography than David, from his days shooting for the famed Miami Herald newspaper, to having 13 Sports Illustrated covers, David is a big deal. He has been Luke Combs' full-time tour photographer since January 2019, and Bon Jovi's tour photographer since 2010. So glad that we get to benefit from his years of experience in media and music photography for this show. Oh yeah... David's workshops, like Shoot From the Pit and his upcoming Italy trip, are great chances to hang out and learn photography. Also on the show we have Montreal based Music Photographer Marie Demeire. I have followed Marie on socials for years, but today is my first time meeting her face-to-face. Known around the net as "Marie Goes To Shows", she has been published in Complex, EDM.com, Bandcamp, iHeartRadio Canada, Canadian Beats, 99Scenes, Sors-Tu, the MUHC Foundation, Secret Melbourne and BP Arts Media. Having been a fan of her work for years, I am thrilled to be able to get her perspective on this subject. Join Canon Explorer of Light David Bergman, and Montreal Music Photographer Marie Demeire, as they join me for a serious, and fun, chat about Concert Photo Releases, on this Behind the Shot. Michelle Grace Hunder, who hails from Melbourne, Australia, takes some of my favourite music photos. Her 2018 photo project (in tandem with her project partner Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore), Her Sound, Her Story, celebrated 80 women from across the Australian music scene visually and in print. It was hugely inspiring to me, and I have ample respect for the time and patience MGH takes to campaign for better conditions for freelance photographers working within the music industry. And she's got another story to tell. An unpopular one, but one that deserves to be heard. Make sure you listen to all of this episode, kids. If you've followed the music of Paul Weller as a solo artist over the past 30 years then the odds are pretty high that you will have also experienced and enjoyed the photography of my latest podcast guest, Lawrence Watson. Their working relationship started in 1988, with a chance opportunity for Lawrence to photograph The Style Council. Paul was impressed with his photography, so much so that the work was used for the Confessions of a Pop Group album cover. Some of the most iconic imagery of Paul's solo career comes via Lawrence - live shots inside the debut album - that unmistakable cover for the Wild Wood album... or Modern Classics or Heliocentric or As Is Now... and so much more... In fact, 800 images were selected for their book Into Tomorrow in 2015, which gives you an idea of how much access Lawrence has had over the years. Our latest guest on Jrodconcerts: The Podcast is something of an institution when it comes to the realms of music. Michael Weintrob is an American photographer, philanthropist and creative who has snapped anyone who's anyone in the music industry. He's also served as house photographer for the Newport Jazz Festival, the Newport Folk Festival, the Barcelona Jazz Festival and the Bluegrass Underground. Michael has also had a long-standing relationship with the Nashville music scene, and is currently launching INSTRUMENTHEAD REVEALED, the sequel to the critically acclaimed INSTRUMENT collection. The INSTRUMENTHEAD collection is a surrealist look into the soul of a musician, not through their eyes as with traditional portraiture, but through his/her instrument. It began in April 2000, through a candid moment in a photoshoot with the Derek Trucks Band, which sparked an unprecedented art project, bringing together more than 500 musicians from across the globe over the course of nearly two decades. Instrumenthead revealed is the sequel, where Michael unmasks these musicians in a way you've never seen before. You can find more about the project and pre-order your book at www.michaelweintrob.com

On this week's episode of the Sound Of Success Paige tells Nic about how editorial fashion layouts in magazines like Vogue inspired her career choice, her early love of boy bands and Justin Bieber's music, how she came to work with artists like Billie Eilish and Greta Van Fleet and discovering Jazz through vocalists such as Blossom Dearie and Julie London.
This week we welcome Paris Visone, an amazing Music Photographer and solid friend. Paris has created her career out of working with artists - not for them. Which I think is an important distinction to make. When you tour with someone, your work as a photographer is a reflection of your relationship with that artist. Arguably even more important - that artist's relationship with you. Paris has been touring for over 10 years and during those years has created some very unique work with artists such as Limp Bizkit, New Found Glory, & Godsmack. It was great to catch up with her, a pleasure to learn from her - and I hope, as always - you enjoy this conversation as much as I do. In this episode of the Don't Shit On The Bus podcast we will learn: • How Paris was able to tour with Limp Bizkit, New Found Glory, and Godsmack • Why working one on one with an artist brings out the best content • How to be a paid touring music photographer • About being boxed into a certain genre of music (00:00) Intro (01:43) Patreon (02:18) Paris gets on the bus (04:16) How Adam and Paris know each other (05:51) How Paris started touring (10:24) Learning experiences from the road (14:12) Knowing your place on tour (19:48) How to get on tour as a photographer (24:41) Branching out to other genres of music (27:29) Touring with Limp Bizkit (30:29) Working one on one with an artist (38:33) Perfect content team for on the road (47:29) How to get paid for your photography (52:06) Wrap up notes (53:20) Shower Shoes --- Paris Visone - Guest ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/parisvisone ► Twitter: https://twitter.com/ParisVisone ► Website: https://www.parisvisone.com --- Don't Shit On The Bus Podcast ► Website: http://www.dontshitonthebus.com ► Spotify: http://bit.ly/DSotBspotify ► Apple Podcasts: http://bit.ly/DSotBapple ► TikTok: https://tiktok.com/@dontshitonthebus ► Twitter: https://twitter.com/DSotBpodcast ► Instagram: https://instagram.com/DSotBpodcast ► Facebook: https://facebook.com/DSotBpodcast ► Patreon: https://patreon.com/DSotB --- Adam Elmakias - Host ► Twitter: https://twitter.com/elmakias ► Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/elmakias ► Website: https://www.adamelmakias.com --- Edited & Produced by Connor Gaskey

This week we do a deep drive into the world of photography with Nicholas O'Donnell. We touch on topics like workflow, developing a style, and debate the merits of digital vs analogue cameras. There were some slight technical issues in the recording of this week's podcast, as a result I've had to do some heavy editing. I hope it doesn't affect your enjoyment of it too much! Until next week! --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Shervin made his name as a portrait music photographer on the New York music scene over the last decade and has become one of the most sought after photographers in the industry. Having started with no formal photography training, he worked his way up the ladder and has since photographed musicians like Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Wilco, Regina Spector, Ingrid Michaelson, Fleet Foxes, Walk the moon, Sara Bareilles and many more... I caught up with him to find out how he went from no photography background to taking iconic images for some of the most exciting new artists across the world. We also talk about what aspiring artists should consider when creating their brand and images. This week on Project Freelance I am so excited to have Rob Haberman on as a guest! Rob is a live music photographer and a wedding photographer who resides in Chicago. In this episode we dive into Rob's photography story, which began when he got a press pass for Vans Warped Tour. Like many others, Warped Tour was the place to be if you wanted to be a live music photographer, and in this episode you'll hear what Rob's Warped Tour experience was like and how it gave him the path to a career. We also touch on the mental health side of freelancing, which I think is so important to discuss. I'm so grateful that these guests are so open about their experiences and that they're willing to share them with this audience. I'm sure a lot of you also deal with self-doubt like I do, so I wanted to see if Rob had any advise on how to overcome that. This is quite the episode!
