The email was pages long, all about the problems in her marriage. Each line was about how her husband had ruined the marriage. She pointed out actions of her husband, and he did make mistakes (no abuse, mind you). She wanted to know what to do -- how to save her marriage -- given the fact that it wasn't her fault. She was clear that she wanted the marriage, but she just didn't know what to do, after all he had done to damage the relationship. NMF She was skidding down the fastest path to failing in her efforts. And she didn't see how she had anything to do with it. NMF When we talked on the phone, I asked a little bit more about the dynamics of the relationship. But I noticed she kept shifting back to "he did...," "he didn't...." She could point out his failures and shortcomings. And then she would return to her question: Given his actions, how could she save her marriage? NMF I had no doubt that she really wanted to save her marriage. And I had little doubt that she would be unsuccessful. Because she had fallen in the NMF trap. Figured it out yet? The NMF trap is "Not My Fault." Here is the problem with "Not My Fault": It leaves you stuck. It does relieve you of blame or fault. But it also tends to rob people of responsibility (Response-Ability). Let's talk about why this trap happens and how to avoid it. Listen below. In this episode, Ingrid Harm-Ernandes, PT, WCS, a seasoned physical therapist, author, and speaker with over 40 years of experience, including almost three decades specializing in women's health, joins us for a discussion into the often overlooked but crucial topic of pelvic health, its critical role in everyday functions like bowel and bladder control, sexual health, & maintaining stability, and treatment options and resources available including NMF's free Menopause MicroCourse on genitourinary symptoms of menopause (GSM). As women enter menopause, the pelvic floor faces additional challenges, including incontinence, prolapse, and pain during sex (aka sex dysfunction). Ingrid noted that these issues are commonly misunderstood or dismissed as inevitable and as a result are not addressed. In actuality, these issues are quite treatable and should be addressed as soon as they are noted. She stressed the importance of recognizing symptoms early and seeking help from qualified, credentialed professionals (e.g., physical therapists, urogynecologists, and certified menopause practitioners / CMPs). Many of these conditions, though common, are manageable with the right care. One of the most misunderstood pelvic health issues is prolapse, where organs like the bladder or uterus shift from their normal position. Ingrid explained how prolapse often starts subtly, with symptoms like pressure or discomfort, but can progress over time without intervention. Fortunately, prolapse is treatable with both non-surgical and surgical options.Ingrid emphasized the importance of follow-through, whether it's attending physical therapy after surgery or making small changes to daily habits. Being aware of changes and understanding how to navigate health issues is an important part of continued self-care. She shared simple but effective strategies to promote pelvic health:Strengthen the Pelvic FloorStay ActiveHydrate and Eat WellSeek Professional HelpAsk QuestionsIngrid is a member of NMF's Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) and was co-faculty for the NMF's Menopause MicroCourse on genitourinary symptoms of menopause (GSM). Her book, The Musculoskeletal Mystery: How to Solve Your Pelvic Floor Symptoms, provides a deeper exploration of these topics. She has served on committees for both the American Physical Therapy Association's (APTA) Specialization Academy of Content Experts (SACE) committee and the American Urogynecologic Society (AUGS), including serving as the Chair and Vice Chair for the Advanced Practice, Physical Therapy and Allied Health (APPTAH) Special Interest Groups (SIG) and the AUGS Advanced Practice Provider (APP) conference committee.Connect with Ingrid:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ingrid-harm-ernandes-5057773b/Instagram: @harmernandesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/ingrid.harmernandes.71/Resources referenced in the podcast: The Musculoskeletal Mystery: How to solve your pelvic floor symptoms -- available on DesertHarvest.com and Amazon.comThe National Menopause Foundation's Menopause MicroCourses

The approaching end of the spring semester at the University of Oklahoma signals the coming of an annual tradition in the college town, Norman Music Festival. Over the years, NMF has become the state's premier music festival for independent and up-and-coming bands, with several big national names sprinkled across its history of lineups. It is also the biggest in-state platform for many talented Oklahoma-based musicians. This year's festival is once again free for all, running from April 25-27, and features headliners like Alvvays, Moor Mother, Husbands, and more. To help set the stage for the event, the Oklahoma Today Podcast welcomes guests Shari Jackson, Desiree Yearby, and Evan Jarvicks to talk the names they're excited to see, the work that goes into putting on such a big annual event, and tips for newcomers. Also on the show, the editors discuss a hit Question of the Week prompt: What Oklahoma small town could also be a good band name? And podvents take us out to where the red fern grows. We hope you enjoy!

In this episode, we delve into a profound conversation with Claire Gill, the founder of the National Menopause Foundation (NMF), as we explore the often-overlooked connection between menopause and divorce. Over and over again, in conversations, webinars, and group meetings with the NMF, women often reference feeling convinced that they were going to get a divorce during the journey to menopause.Join us as we shed light on the complexities, challenges, and emotions that can intertwine these life events. Our culture's lack of awareness and understanding of the physical and emotional symptoms of perimenopause can impact relationships and even influence major life decisions. Being informed and aware of symptoms can help discern whether issues are related to menopause or truly reflective of challenges in a relationship. Building The Next Generation of Healthcare Leaders with Michellene Davis. My next podcast guest, Michellene Davis, Esq assumed the role of President and Chief Executive Officer of National Medical Fellowships, Inc., (NMF) in May of 2021. Founded in 1946, NMF was one of America's first diversity organizations and remains the only national organization advancing health equity at the intersection of wealth and health. It provides scholarships to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) medical and health professions students underrepresented in medicine to ensure equity of access to culturally competent, high-quality health care. NMF also increases the number of BIPOC clinician leaders to diversify clinical trials. Davis is named among Modern Healthcare magazine's Top 25 Most Influential Minority Leaders in Healthcare and Becker's Hospital Review's Top113 Great Leaders in Healthcare 2022 and Top 50 African Americans to Know in Healthcare. The National Association of Health Services Executives awarded her their 2021 Senior Health Care Executive Award. Davis most recently served as Executive Vice President and Chief Corporate Affairs Officer at RWJ Barnabas Health, the largest academic medical center system in New Jersey and one of the largest in the nation. She was the first African American in state history to serve as Chief Policy Counsel to former New Jersey Governor Jon S. Corzine, the first African American and only the second woman to serve as New Jersey State Treasurer. Ms. Davis began her legal career as a trial litigator, is an Honors graduate of Seton Hall University, and holds a Juris Doctorate from Seton Hall School of Law. She holds Executive Education Certificates in Corporate Social Responsibility from the Harvard Business School and in Social Impact Strategy from the Wharton School of Business. In this interview we cover: ~Michellene Davis' journey to becoming President and CEO of NMF ~Explore why having BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) physicians is vital to healthcare ~How the ability to recruit and retain diverse healthcare leaders would impact healthcare disparities ~What is NMF's approach to reducing healthcare disparities and what would it take for other organizations to support diversity in healthcare? ~NMF's 7 pillars If you're ready to transition into a leadership role and make an impact in healthcare by supporting your colleagues, reducing healthcare disparities, and improving outcomes, schedule a discovery call with me at www.schedulewithdrlisa.com Download our free Ebook 'The 10 Steps You Need to Transition into a Leadership Role'

The law only allows three exceptions to the use of symbols of hate such as the old SA flag. These exceptions include the usage of the symbol for purposes of bona fide artistic ends, academic endeavour or journalism. The gratuitous display of the old SA flag, for these reasons, has been declared as constituting hate speech.AfriForum is hoping to persuade the supreme court of appeal that general free speech rights are impermissibly restricted by such a declaration. The Nelson Mandela Foundation as well the Human Rights Commission argued that AfriForum's view, in turn, took inadequate account of the rights of dignity and equality which constrain the free speech rights AfriForum are asserting. The SCA now has to adjudicate the matter. In this edition of In The Ring, advocate Ben Winks, who represented the NMF, joined me to discuss an aspect of the case that has been under the radar. What happens if a black person or a black-led and pro-black organisation used the old SA flag as part of their political speech rights such as, say, waving it publicly as a trenchant critique of the quality of the current ANC government? Would such usage also be deemed to be a celebration of white supremacy? Or ought we to distinguish such cases from the gratuitous display of the flag by right-wing organisations? How should the law handle this? Besides, such an instance would not be artistic, academic or journalistic? Should the law be expanded to include political usage of such symbols as another exemption from the hate speech laws? We did not arrive at clear conclusions but framed the inherent legal, political and ethical complexities these questions occasion.
