Scott Helfstein, head of investment strategy at Global X ETFs, says that he has no problem with higher-than-planned inflation levels so long as nominal economic growth is there. "Investors don't really profit off of Federal Reserve changes," he says, "they profit off of growth in the economy, and that's what we should be focused on." Gene Peroni, founder of Peroni Portfolio Advisors, says that "The market is sensing something quite significantly positive on the horizon, based on its trends." He expects economic strength and rising earnings to keep growing for roughly nine months or more, and says that downturns and setbacks will remain buying opportunities for now. Plus, Sam Burns, chief strategist at Mill Street Research, brings his earnings-expectation driven style of investing to the Market Call.

Today, on Karl and Crew Mornings, we continued our weekly theme called Every Age and Stage, and we discussed life in the 40s and 50s. While this is the time when the infamous midlife crisis can occur, it doesn't have to! We heard inspirational stories from listeners about times when God moved them to take a step back from the American Dream and into a "midlife sweet spot." We also talked with Tom McGehee, Co-Chief Executive Officer of the Halftime Institute, a ministry that equips leaders across the globe to discover and live out lives of purpose and impact. You can hear all the highlights of today's program on the Karl and Crew Showcast. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's a free-flow episode this week. The energy crisis is here but don't fear because a new kettle will save you according to Boris Johnson. You know what else will keep you warm this winter… a spouse but only if you're “marriage material”. What does it mean to be marriage material and how has that changed through time?

Eusebius McKaiser is joined by University of Cape Town (UCT) law professor, author and political analyst Richard Calland in his latest episode of Eusebius on TimesLIVE. They discuss whether a mandatory state vaccination policy will pass the rights limitations test of the constitution. Calland explains why the core requirements of rationality and favourable analysis of competing rights that are at stake will ultimately fall on the side of mandatory vaccinations. The efficacy of vaccines and absence of less restrictive means of dealing effectively with Covid-19 are legal premises, based on scientific evidence, that could persuade the bench. The discussion then segues into political analysis, with a focus on President Cyril Ramaphosa's leadership. McKaiser and Calland are of the view, and offer arguments in support thereof, that Ramaphosa is no crisis president. His style and approach to problem-solving is admirably collaborative, but this is not appropriate within the context of a deep crisis that requires decisive thought leadership and action rather than agnosticism. Calland urges the president to ignore the noise of anti-vaccine campaigners and focus on sound science as the basis of rational policy formation.

Midlife Crisis is a familiar term that conjures up all kinds of images and behaviors. But what if we flipped the narrative and instead, enjoyed Midlife NO Crisis?! Enter age activist, Martha Beck Institute-Certified Life Coach, and heath coach, Lisa Levine, author of just that book, Midlife No Crisis: An Audacious Guide to Embracing 50 and Beyond. Lisa herself reached a turning point when she turned 50. Spending years in a successful career and even as an entrepreneur starting her own business, she always had a sneaking suspicion that something was calling her name. Getting through a diagnosis of Graves disease, infertility, and raising a daughter with Hashimoto’s Disease, sparked a passion within Levine to use food for healing. This was audacious for her because it required her to step out of her comfort zone and learn to enjoy veggies beyond carrot sticks. And that bold move turned her “midlife meaning-of-life crisis” when she was tired of her career into taking a leap of faith into the coaching world. Becoming a coach met her vociferous craving for more meaning in her life and she discovered what she can bring to the table (literally and metaphorically). In this inspiring hour, you’ll hear about her amazing journey, why she believes in living audaciously including five ways to do so! She discusses the value of a “stop doing” list, and how to step into midlife feeling empowered verses disenfranchised. Levine also shares why feeling “old” is inflammation in your body and mind and how to detox, including how change can be an opportunity for growth and so much more! You won’t want to miss the wisdom imparted guaranteed to empower everyone to embrace the years to come with vivacity!Today, Levine enjoys sharing tools to help people understand and move beyond their fears, shift their perspectives and, first and foremost, how to truly pay attention to what they are thinking, feeling and doing to get un-stuck and move towards the lives they truly want to be living. Even if they don’t know what that looks like yet. Her book, Midlife No Crisis, is an empowering read, encouraging both women and men to do something different when what their doing is no longer working. Levine says the secret to owning this next chapter of your life: Finding the audaciousness in and around you. MCALLEN, Texas - McAllen Mayor Jim Darling is fed up with all the negative publicity surrounding the Rio Grande Valley perpetrated by national politicians and news outlets. At a news conference held to announce new non-stop flights between McAllen and Monterrey, Mexico, Darling said his city is safe. He said the city is helping Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley provide testing for COVID-19 to asylum seekers dropped off in the city. Darling said he hopes Washington, D.C., will compensate the city for the work it is doing to help the federal government look after migrants and that the negative jibes will stop.

First, they called it a surge, then a challenge. But despite what anyone else says, the Biden Administration will not call what's happening at the border a crisis. Stephen Dinan joins Andy to take a look at what's happening with Homeland Security, including Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas saying this week that he has retreated on a Trump-era policy to push immigrants to be self-supportive, saying it was an affront to the country’s history as a nation of immigrants.

Often called a ‘once in one hundred years event’, the COVID-19 pandemic is having a profound impact on the economy. Today’s guest is Craig Alexander, Deloitte’s Chief Economist, who brings his 29 years of experience analyzing the economy to answer our questions about the marketplace. We start the conversation by exploring how the pandemic is affecting small businesses, with Craig adding insights into what the government should be doing to help. Craig discusses how the pandemic has revealed inadequacies with Canada’s employment insurance and why Canada needs to improve both its income support and its skills frameworks. A key theme in the episode, Chris presents the idea that businesses “Shouldn’t let a crisis go to waste.” As such, Chris thinks that this crisis is a chance for businesses to reassess their models, especially as certain pre-pandemic trends will continue to disrupt business. Chris also highlights the importance of high-quality childcare services to ensure both long and short-term economic recovery. From childcare, we leap to real estate before Chris provides his perspective on the interplay between the stock market and the economy. After the hosts question the value of economic forecasts, Chris makes a strong case for them, showing how they help organizations to develop plans based on several best and worst-case scenarios. Next, we ask Chris about investing in these times of economic uncertainty and if there is a risk of increased inflation in the future. Near the end of the episode, Chris talks about which industries will most likely grow in the future. Tune in to learn more from Chris’s incredible economic perspective. The economy is completely tanking, to state the obvious. And yet the billionaire class are seeing their wealth skyrocket, to the tune of $282 billion, at least in the US, says Alan MacLeod, author, journalist and media analyst and a member of the Glasgow University Media Group. Why? Well, the CARE Act, in part, which is yet another huge giveaway to those who are already sitting pretty. Surely watching the economy crash, and yet still serve the ultra-rich on its last legs should wake people up to the lopsided and cruel system Americans live under, but with a media in servitude to the billionaire class, is that likely?
