From the frosty ballparks of Pickering, Canada, to the coaching box at Notre Dame College, Kyle Espineli's baseball journey embodies the grit and growth of the sport beyond America's borders. In our heartwarming chat, Kyle, the assistant baseball coach, unpacks the cultural exchange of bats and balls between Canada and the U.S. He lays bare the realities Canadian athletes face, where hockey skates often overshadow baseball gloves, and how events like Tournament 12 are shaking up the status quo. As he reflects on his own path, paved by the travel ball circuit, we're reminded that the diamond often finds its sparkle in the most unexpected of places. As the conversation turns to the dugout, it's clear that the leap from player to coach isn't just a change in title—it's a transformation of spirit. Kyle's initiation into coaching, much like my own detour into a broadcast booth following an injury, is a testament to the profound ways sports can redirect our lives. Together, we explore the nuances of building a collegiate program under Ohio's capricious skies, eagerly awaiting an Orlando tournament that promises to test the mettle and heart of the team. It's a tale that underscores the beauty of mentorship, and how the seeds of passion for the game can sprout a legacy on the field. Our episode concludes with a tip of the cap to Kyle for his candid narratives and invaluable perceptions on the Canadian baseball landscape and the coaching life. Listeners, you're in for an episode that throws a perfect game—full of stories about resilience, strategy, and the unstoppable underdog drive. How BREATHWORK saved Former NFL Tight End Joe Fauria's Life

On this episode we're joined by Joe Fauria (the biggest Joe you know), former NFL athlete turned Breathwork fascilitator. In just his early 30's, Joe has accumulated a whirlwind of life experiences already, having reached the highest of the highs, and sinking to the lowest of lows. From the moment he walked into the studio, I felt a connection straight away, I'm not sure if it's the connection due to us both being former athletes, or just the high frequency he emits. This was one of my favourite conversations on the show to date, and we got DEEP. Born and raised in California, Joseph Fauria (aka Big Joe) began his yoga practice in 2009 while playing football at UCLA before playing in the NFL.  After 4 years in the NFL, a severe ankle injury altered his life's course and ended a lifelong commitment to the sport. Anxiety & depression became frequent combatants to a once joyous and purposeful existence, and Big Joe knew he needed to bring meaning back into his life.  In 2018, Big Joe embarked upon his spiritual journey, which eventually led to adding meditation and breathwork into his daily practice.  From playing in the NFL as a Tight End with the Detroit Lions, to guiding breathwork around the world and leading international wellness retreats, Big Joe has tangible life experiences that provides insight + techniques to heal, and bring balance to your life. In this episide we discuss: Joe's path to the NFL Letting the ego get in the way at an early age Understanding how your projections onto others may not be 100% true The importance of reading other people's energy The reason why he was kicked out of the prestigious Notre Dame College in his first year Attending UCLA Making the NFL and the pressures of being a professional athlete Having his dreams crushed and the dark place that left him in Finding breathwork and deepening his relationship with spirituality How vulnerability has opened doors he never knew were there before Losing both of his parents within the space of 1 month The tools that have allowed him to experience life to the fullest and bring others up along the way What life looks like today + much more @bigjoe www.heybigjoe.com Shop our Younify Supplements here: https://younifyactive.com/ (Use code DJK10 for 10% off) Book a FREE zoom consult here Use my FREE Macro Calculator here THANK YOU for listening, I really do appreciate everyone who tunes in each week.   Click Here To Become a VIP member (Join DK's coaching app here, try 7 days FREE using the code DKTRIAL)   @djkfitness Join my free email list here   Read The Ultimate Flexible Dieting Guide here   SHOP DKFITNESS MERCH HERE   Intro by Will Sparks.   Find this episode helpful? When an injury benched my dreams of swimming competitively, I understood the weight of saying goodbye to a lifelong passion. Today, Pat Svihlik, a former college soccer standout who's now shaping futures at Notre Dame College, joins me to share that familiar pang of an athlete's career cut short and the resilience needed to craft new dreams. We follow Pat's journey from his rough-and-tumble childhood games with his brothers to the turning point that saw him hang up his cleats and pick up the coach's whistle. Alongside, we delve into the world of college recruitment, unpacking the allure that pulled him to Walsh University, and nodding to the friendships that often guide our most pivotal choices. The conversation takes a heartwarming turn as we reminisce about the euphoria of calling a championship soccer game, before peering into the multifaceted life of a college admissions officer at the historic Notre Dame College. Moving through corridors of laughter, we exchange tales from wearing our many hats—mine as a comedian and podcast host, and Pat's as an administrator. But don't let the chuckles fool you; there's wisdom in our "Fast Fiddy Five" segment, where quirky questions unlock candid revelations. As the episode winds down, Pat takes a moment to step back from the spotlight, redirecting our attention to those serving in the armed forces and first responders with a heartfelt thank you, leaving listeners with a sense of gratitude and blessings for the New Year.Stupid Should Hurt Link to my Merch store the Stupid Should Hurt Line!Reaper Apparel Reaper Apparel Co was built for those who refuse to die slowly! Full Text of ReadingsChristmas Weekday Lectionary: 209The Saint of the day is Saint Andr BessetteSaint André Bessette's Story Brother André expressed a saint's faith by a lifelong devotion to Saint Joseph. Sickness and weakness dogged André from birth. He was the eighth of 12 children born to a French Canadian couple near Montreal. Adopted at 12, when both parents had died, he became a farmhand. Various trades followed: shoemaker, baker, blacksmith—all failures. He was a factory worker in the United States during the boom times of the Civil War. At 25, André applied for entrance into the Congregation of Holy Cross. After a year's novitiate, he was not admitted because of his weak health. But with an extension and the urging of Bishop Bourget, he was finally received. He was given the humble job of doorkeeper at Notre Dame College in Montreal, with additional duties as sacristan, laundry worker and messenger. “When I joined this community, the superiors showed me the door, and I remained 40 years,” he said. In his little room near the door, he spent much of the night on his knees. On his windowsill, facing Mount Royal, was a small statue of Saint Joseph, to whom he had been devoted since childhood. When asked about it he said, “Some day, Saint Joseph is going to be honored in a very special way on Mount Royal!” When he heard someone was ill, he visited to bring cheer and to pray with the sick person. He would rub the sick person lightly with oil taken from a lamp burning in the college chapel. Word of healing powers began to spread. When an epidemic broke out at a nearby college, André volunteered to nurse. Not one person died. The trickle of sick people to his door became a flood. His superiors were uneasy; diocesan authorities were suspicious; doctors called him a quack. “I do not cure,” he said again and again. “Saint Joseph cures.” In the end he needed four secretaries to handle the 80,000 letters he received each year. For many years the Holy Cross authorities had tried to buy land on Mount Royal. Brother André and others climbed the steep hill and planted medals of Saint Joseph. Suddenly, the owners yielded. André collected $200 to build a small chapel and began receiving visitors there—smiling through long hours of listening, applying Saint Joseph's oil. Some were cured, some not. The pile of crutches, canes and braces grew. The chapel also grew. By 1931, there were gleaming walls, but money ran out. “Put a statue of Saint Joseph in the middle. If he wants a roof over his head, he'll get it.” The magnificent Oratory on Mount Royal took 50 years to build. The sickly boy who could not hold a job died at 92. He is buried at the Oratory. He was beatified in 1982 and canonized in 2010. At his canonization in October 2010, Pope Benedict XVI said that Saint Andre “lived the beatitude of the pure of heart.” Reflection Rubbing ailing limbs with oil or a medal? Planting a medal to buy land? Isn't this superstition? Aren't we long past that superstitious people rely only on the “magic” of a word or action. Brother André's oil and medals were authentic sacramentals of a simple, total faith in the Father who lets his saints help him bless his children. Saint of the Day, Copyright Franciscan Media
