In this episode, Hawk discusses El Salvador, its current President Nayib Bukele, and the controversial CECOT prison. Hawk provides historical context about El Salvador from pre-colonial times through its civil war, explaining how gangs like MS-13 and Barrio 18 (which originated in Los Angeles) created severe violence in El Salvador until Bukele's crackdown beginning in 2022. The video details how El Salvador became the murder capital of the world before Bukele implemented a state of exception that suspended constitutional rights.Hawk extensively describes the CECOT terrorism confinement center, a massive prison built in just six months that now holds over 14,500 inmates in inhumane conditions. The prison features 30-foot walls, 24-hour artificial lighting, no windows, and cells where up to 160 prisoners share two toilets and two water buckets. Hawk explains that President Bukele claims no prisoner has ever been released from CECOT except one deportee, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was recently moved to another facility after a U.S. Senator's intervention. The episode also covers the recent arrangement between the Trump administration and El Salvador where the U.S. has deported alleged gang members to CECOT, including many with no criminal record. Hawk notes that Trump has expressed desire to send U.S. citizens to this prison despite legal experts saying this would be impossible under U.S. law. The video concludes with observations about El Salvador's improved safety under Bukele's authoritarian approach and the complex trade-offs between security and human rights. The episode features a conversation between Hawk and Zee Cohen-Sanchez from Nationalgroundgame.com about two special elections in Florida for vacant House seats, with candidates Gay Valamont and Josh Weil running in traditionally Republican districts. Zee, who works with National Ground Game, discusses how these races are unexpectedly competitive, with Democratic candidates out-fundraising their Republican opponents by significant margins. The conversation highlights that early voting results are promising for Democrats, and that issues like veteran benefits, Social Security, and recent controversies involving Trump appointees and Republican text message leaks are resonating with voters in these districts.Zee explains that National Ground Game's approach focuses on "deep canvassing," which involves meaningful conversations with voters about their concerns rather than just asking who they'll vote for. This method has proven effective in flipping traditionally Republican districts in the past. Zee emphasizes that many potential voters in these districts are non-voters rather than Republicans who need to be converted, and that Democratic infrastructure in these areas has been neglected for years. Even if Democrats don't win these races, Zee believes making them competitive is important groundwork for future elections. The conversation concludes with a discussion about how Democrats have failed to effectively organize in primaries and connect online influence to real-world action, unlike Republicans who have built effective pipelines from social media to political engagement. Zee notes that Democrats appear to have more online talent and followers but haven't utilized them effectively to connect with campaigns. Hawk interviews former NFL player and social justice activist Chris Kluwe. They discuss Kluwe's recent arrest in Huntington Beach while protesting a controversial plaque at the local library, which he argues was designed to promote a far-right agenda. The conversation expands into the broader political climate of the city, highlighting its history with white nationalist movements and how local officials are using their positions to advance personal ambitions rather than serving the community. Kluwe criticizes the city council's attempts at book bans and library privatization, emphasizing the need for community activism to push back against authoritarian policies. The discussion shifts toward national politics, where Kluwe and Hawk examine the rise of the MAGA movement and its parallels to historical fascism. Kluwe argues that MAGA operates on an explicitly anti-democratic platform, using trans rights as a starting point to erode broader civil liberties. They discuss the role of the Republican Party in enabling authoritarianism, the failure of Democratic leadership to push back effectively, and the alarming acceleration of radical policies under the Trump administration. Kluwe stresses the importance of recognizing the ideological shift away from traditional conservatism, calling on Americans to stand against what he sees as a constitutional collapse. In the final segment, they explore the influence of radicalization within gaming communities and online spaces, tracing the roots of today's alt-right pipeline back to movements like Gamergate. Kluwe highlights how young men, struggling with a sense of control in their lives, are being drawn into extremist ideologies through social media algorithms and figures like Andrew Tate and Joe Rogan. He calls for direct intervention in reaching disaffected youth before they fully embrace these toxic narratives. The episode ends with a sobering reflection on the future of American democracy, with both Hawk and Kluwe urging immediate and sustained action to counter rising authoritarianism.Follow Chris Kluwe on Bluesky: https://bsky.app/profile/chriswarcraft.bsky.social SUPPORT & CONNECT WITH HAWK- Support on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/mdg650hawk- Support Hawk's Merch Store: https://hawkmerchstore.com- Connect on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mdg650hawk7thacct- Connect on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@hawkpodcasts ALL HAWK PODCASTS INFO- Additional Podcasts Available Here: https://www.hawkpodcasts.com- Listen to Hawk Podcasts On Your Favorite Platform:Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3RWeJfyApple Podcasts: https://apple.co/422GDuLYouTube: https://youtube.com/@hawkpodcastsiHeartRadio: https://ihr.fm/47vVBdPPandora: https://bit.ly/48COaTBSimplecast: https://hawk-droppings.simplecast.com- Hawk Podcasts RSS Feed: https://feeds.simplecast.com/pPVtxSNJ

In this episode of "Hawk Droppings," Hawk interviews Dr. Melanie Matheu, PhD (Laughter in Light on TikTok), an immunologist and scientist, to discuss H5N1 bird flu. Dr. Matheu explains that H5N1 is a highly pathogenic influenza virus that has historically had a 52-56% mortality rate in humans, though this rate could decrease if the virus becomes more widespread. While the virus currently cannot spread between humans, Dr. Matheu warns that it is likely only one mutation away from gaining this ability, which she estimates could happen within the next two years. The conversation explores how H5N1 differs from COVID-19, noting that influenza viruses generally require higher viral loads for infection and spread less easily than coronaviruses. Dr. Matheu discusses existing H5N1 vaccines and their potential effectiveness, explaining that while vaccines exist, the U.S. only has about 4.8 million doses stockpiled. The discussion also covers how prior COVID infections or Long COVID might impact susceptibility to H5N1, with Dr. Matheu explaining that COVID-related immune system dysfunction could make people more vulnerable to future infections. The interview concludes with a broader discussion about the state of scientific communication and trust in the United States. Both host and guest express concern about the spread of medical misinformation and the potential impact of losing platforms like TikTok, which has served as an important channel for scientists to communicate directly with the public. They also discuss their apprehension about how future public health crises might be handled given the current political climate and declining trust in scientific institutions.Dr. Matheu's Substack article on H5N1 - a good companion read for what is discussed in this episode: https://lilscience.substack.com/p/is-h5n1bird-flu-the-next-pandemicDr. Matheu's Social Media Links:Substack: https://lilscience.substack.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/melanie_matheu_phd/Threads: https://www.threads.net/@melanie_matheu_phdBlueSky: https://bsky.app/profile/lilscience.bsky.social Episode Correction: The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) revoked the board certification of Peter McCullough, MD, MPH, a cardiologist who promoted controversial views about COVID-19 (not his license to practice medicine). This episode discusses the upcoming Supreme Court oral arguments regarding the TikTok ban legislation, scheduled for January 10th, 2025. The legislation, which was rapidly passed through Congress in just eight days, requires ByteDance (TikTok's Chinese parent company) to divest its ownership of TikTok's U.S. operations or face a ban. Hawk analyzed the government's legal brief, which argues that the legislation addresses national security concerns about Chinese government control rather than content regulation, though Hawk notes that the government's brief lacks concrete evidence of actual harm.Hawk expresses skepticism about the government's stated motivations, suggesting that the legislation was influenced by pro-Israel lobbying groups who were concerned about Palestinian content from Gaza being shared on TikTok. He emphasizes that TikTok is used by approximately 170 million Americans (about half the U.S. population) and argues that banning the platform would have significant economic and social consequences for its users.TikTok's legal brief argues that the legislation violates First Amendment protections, pointing out that the law specifically targets one content platform while exempting others with similar foreign connections. Their brief challenges the government's position by highlighting that TikTok is a U.S. company and arguing that the law should be subject to strict scrutiny since it effectively regulates speech and content rather than just foreign conduct. Hawk suggests that TikTok's brief makes stronger legal arguments by focusing on practical First Amendment implications rather than relying on speculative security concerns. In this December 26, 2024 episode, Hawk analyzes a recent court decision regarding Donald Trump's claims of presidential immunity in his Manhattan criminal case, where he was convicted on 34 felony counts for falsifying business records. The decision, written by Judge Juan Merchan on December 16, 2024, came in response to Trump's motion to dismiss the indictment and vacate the jury's verdict based on a Supreme Court immunity decision from July 1, 2024.Hawk details how Judge Merchan systematically dismantled Trump's immunity claims, explaining that the evidence in question related to unofficial rather than official acts, and therefore wasn't protected by presidential immunity. The judge also concluded that even if some evidence was improperly admitted, it would constitute harmless error given the overwhelming evidence of guilt from other sources, including documentary evidence and testimony from multiple witnesses.Throughout the episode, Hawk praises the thoroughness and readability of Judge Merchan's decision while noting how the judge subtly criticizes the Supreme Court's immunity doctrine. He emphasizes that despite Trump's claims, the judge clearly states in the decision that Trump "stands convicted" of the 34 felony counts, and ultimately denied Trump's motion to dismiss the case.REFERENCE LINKS:12/16/24 Judge Merchan Decision and Order, the subject of the podcast:https://www.nycourts.gov/LegacyPDFs/press/PDFs/CPL330.30Dec.pdf7/1/24 Supreme Court Trump immunity decision:https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/23pdf/23-939_e2pg.pdfJudge Tanya Chutkan immunity ruling, Jack Smith SC case:https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24180338-12_1-chutkan-rejects-mtd/Judge Engeron final decision in NY AG civil case against Trump:https://www.scribd.com/document/706231478/452564-2022-People-of-the-State-of-v-People-of-the-State-of-Decision-After-Trial-1688#1fullscreen=1 SUPPORT & CONNECT WITH HAWK- Support on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/mdg650hawk- Support Hawk's Merch Store: https://hawkmerchstore.com- Connect on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mdg650hawk7thacct- Connect on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@hawkpodcasts ALL HAWK PODCASTS INFO- Additional Podcasts Available Here: https://www.hawkpodcasts.com- Listen to Hawk Droppings On Your Favorite Platform:Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3RWeJfyApple Podcasts: https://apple.co/422GDuLYouTube: https://youtube.com/@hawkpodcastsiHeartRadio: https://ihr.fm/47vVBdPPandora: https://bit.ly/48COaTBSimplecast: https://hawk-droppings.simplecast.com- Hawk Droppings RSS Feed: https://feeds.simplecast.com/pPVtxSNJ

Hawk starts off by expressing his admiration for Jordan's “clapback game” against trolls, and Jordan proudly agrees, sharing how every hostile comment she gets online only fuels her powers fending off unwanted attention since she was 14. Hawk laughs, especially when describing her partner as a Viking look-alike—who had no idea how much attention she attracted until he started dating her. Together, they poke fun at these wannabe alpha-males, agreeing they're as real as unicorns. The duo then dives into the rabbit hole of social media's role in brainwashing young men, with Hawk humorously lamenting that algorithms are practically two clicks away from turning teens into Andrew Tate fans. Jordan recalls a memorable moment when she met Joe Rogan, revealing that he's “a short little guy” who has to “climb into his truck like a spider monkey.” As they tackle the troubling right-wing pipeline and the toxicity seeping into male friendships, Hawk reminisces about his liberal mom and the hard lessons she taught him and his brother. Meanwhile, Jordan savors the irony of men who can't stand a strong woman telling them to “swallow a satchel of Richards.”To wrap it up, Hawk brings up the recent political turmoil and how, instead of fixing societal divides, it seems to be driving men and women even further apart. Jordan doesn't hold back, roasting “libertarians who think they're independent but need everyone around them” and white women who voted for Trump, declaring them “the women who let their husbands walk into their daughters' rooms at night.” Hawk, laughing in both shock and agreement, thanks Jordan for her brutal honesty and her wisdom. Hawk begins by sharing an editorial from Le Monde, which characterizes Trump's reelection as "the end of an American era" and warns of severe global consequences, particularly for European security and democratic institutions worldwide. He discusses various aspects of the election results, including the significant drop in Democratic voter turnout compared to 2020 (13 million fewer voters), Trump's gains in 48 out of 50 states, and the ineffectiveness of Harris's well-run campaign despite knocking on three million doors in swing states. In what sounds like history's most congested podcast episode, our sneezing host Hawk delivers the latest on Florida's Senate race, where former Medicare-fraud champion turned Senator Rick Scott is facing off against Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. Apparently, Rick Scott spent $160 million of his own money to win three elections by razor-thin margins, which Hawk suggests might be a sign of mental illness - hey, at least he's creating jobs in the campaign advertising industry!Between sneezes and allergy attacks, Hawk explains how Scott - a man who literally banned the phrase "climate change" from government documents in a state that's basically one hurricane away from becoming Atlantis - is now trailing in polls against Mucarsel-Powell. The highlight of her campaign? A 75-stop bus tour across Florida - one stop for each time Rick Scott pleaded the Fifth Amendment when questioned about that teeny-tiny Medicare fraud situation. Talk about creative campaign messaging! Finally, Hawk manages to explain through his histamine crisis why Trump won't be able to steal the 2024 election, largely because he's no longer in charge of, well, anything. The episode wraps up with a tale of "Peggy Chud" and "Tom Chud" (not their real names, but close enough) in Arizona, who found out the hard way that refusing to certify election results because your candidate lost is, surprisingly, illegal. They swap stories of navigating life in a deep-red state, with Brando humorously recalling how talking politics in a Tennessee bar would have him checking over his shoulder, unlike the carefree political discussions he and Hawk had when he was visiting San Francisco, California. They laugh about how Republicans in Tennessee overreach so hard, you'd think they were stretching to grab the last PBR from the fridge at a frat party. The conversation shifts to "Project 2025," a dystopian plan Republicans have apparently already beta-tested in Tennessee. They discuss the Tennessee Three, political gerrymandering map that resembles a pizza, and Gloria Johnson's uphill battle against Marsha Blackburn in the Senate race. The banter gets even funnier when they dive into Trump's bizarre rallies, where he “dances” on stage for 40 minutes. The duo can't help but imagine how differently the media would react if Kamala Harris decided to hold a dance party at one of her rallies!Towards the end, they talk about how Trump's fanbase might as well sign up for the “Church of the AR-15,” where the preacher waves around a gold-plated rifle and delivers sermons while wearing a bullet crown. Hawk and Brando share a knowing laugh about how some folks are so deep in the Trump cult that they'd vote for a felon over the actual teachings of Jesus. Alright, folks, buckle up! Today's podcast episode is brought to you by the one, the only, Hawk—who, let's be honest, may need an intervention for his microphone. It's loose again, people. If this podcast had a production budget, that mic would have gone the way of Trump's dietitian—a distant memory! After struggling to find a topic that wasn't dark or depressing, Hawk did the sensible thing: he outsourced his job to the internet. Why spend time planning your show when you can let TikTok and Patreon comments drive your content? The man's living the dream, folks! And what did his highly intellectual audience request? The riveting tale of how Hawk adopted Tanner, a Chihuahua-dachshund who picked him like a desperate kid picking his parents at a divorce hearing. Some woman who looked like she wandered off Real Housewives of Beverly Hills tried to snatch Tanner away, but the dog sprinted into Hawk's lap. That's right—straight-up rejected reality TV for a life of podcasting mediocrity. Enter Lola, another dog from the same shelter because clearly, Hawk's building a rescue dog cinematic universe here. But hold on, Hawk veered into weather reports that make CNN look calm. And, as any responsible adult would, he followed up storm devastation with tales of totaling cars as a teenager. You know, like a public service announcement but with more vehicular damage. Kids, don't fall asleep at the wheel, or worse—you'll end up paddled by your Mormon vice principal. Just trust me, Hawk's high school life was like a bad crossover between Fast & Furious and Fast Times at Ridgemont High… except with fewer cool stunts and more cringe-worthy life lessons. Di couldn't hide her admiration for Judge Chutkan's professionalism, while Hawk marveled at how Jack Smith continues to surprise with his bold legal moves, including the clever use of grand juries to dodge immunity issues. The duo also laughed about the ever-absurd courtroom antics, such as the time Rudy Giuliani literally farted his way into infamy by giving Jenna Ellis COVID during a fake Georgia Senate hearing (allegedly). The conversation pivoted to the chaotic Georgia RICO case led by Fani Willis, where a personal scandal involving Willis and her lead prosecutor threw a wrench in the proceedings. Despite this hiccup, Willis managed to secure guilty pleas from four defendants, including three of Trump's own attorneys, making her the only prosecutor with such victories so far. The roller coaster continued with a lively discussion of the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case, where Hawk and Di dissected Judge Eileen Cannon's perplexing decisions and the latest developments in Jack Smith's brilliant appellate strategy.Hawk and Di also tackled the latest DOJ indictments related to Russian disinformation, exposing the fact that right-wing podcasters like Tim Pool and Dave Rubin were secretly funded by Russian cash. Hawk joked about how Tim Pool, who rarely leaves his house without his hat, might now be wondering why his checks aren't coming in. Di speculated that this was just the tip of the iceberg, as there's likely more to be uncovered in the tangled web of foreign influence. The episode wrapped up with Hawk reminiscing about the days when the GOP was the "law and order" party, and the bizarre reversal under Trump, where Republicans are now in bed with Russia and trying to defund the FBI. They ponder why billionaires can't just be happy counting their money on a beach somewhere, instead of trying to control elections and launch themselves into space. Spoiler alert: it's probably because their gold-plated toilets are just too darn comfortable. As the conversation wraps up, Hawk and Trey reminisce about the good old days when politics was boring and the biggest controversy was whether New Coke was actually better than the original. All while realizing that things were better simply because they are both white men. Check your privilege when talking about when things were "easier" because for many things were in fact worse. They conclude that while they may not be able to change the minds of hardcore MAGA fans, they can at least laugh about it - and remind everyone to check their voter registration more often than they check their Instagram likes. The Supreme Court, meanwhile, is busy trying to decide if being President is like having a lifetime supply of legal teflon.Hawk takes us on a whirlwind tour of the oral arguments, where justices pondered such pressing questions such as whether a president could order a military coup (you know, just your average Tuesday in the Oval Office). He predicts that while the Court won't give Trump total immunity, they might invent a new game show called "Is It Official or Personal?" for future presidents to play. As for Trump's other cases, it's like a legal version of Whack-A-Mole - knock one down, and another pops up.Finally, Hawk dives into Jack Smith's indictment, which reads like a political thriller with a cast of characters that would make a soap opera blush. Six unnamed co-conspirators? It's like Clue, but with fewer candlesticks and more subpoenas. Hawk wraps up by hoping for a pre-election trial, because nothing says "democracy" like deciding the fate of a presidential candidate between campaign rallies.Oh, and don't forget to buy some Pride merch at hawkmerchstore.com to support the Kaleidoscope Youth Foundation in Columbus, Ohio (kycohio.org) - all profit from the Pride Collection goes to this amazing non-profit for the month of June.Links to Judge Chutkan immunity decision and Jack Smith's J6 IndictmentJudge Chutkan immunity decision attached to this post - sourced from this article:https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.dcd.258149/gov.uscourts.dcd.258149.171.0.pdfJack Smith's January 6th Indictment (also attached):https://www.justice.gov/storage/US_v_Trump_23_cr_257.pdf SUPPORT & CONNECT WITH HAWK- Support on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/mdg650hawk- Support Hawk's Merch Store: https://hawkmerchstore.com- Connect on TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@mdg650hawk7thacct- Connect on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@hawkpodcasts ALL HAWK PODCASTS INFO- Additional Podcasts Available Here: https://www.hawkpodcasts.com- Listen to Hawk Droppings On Your Favorite Platform:Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3RWeJfyApple Podcasts: https://apple.co/422GDuLYouTube: https://youtube.com/@hawkpodcastsiHeartRadio: https://ihr.fm/47vVBdPPandora: https://bit.ly/48COaTBSimplecast: https://hawk-droppings.simplecast.com- Hawk Droppings RSS Feed: https://feeds.simplecast.com/pPVtxSNJ

You're gonna need a hot shower with an abrasive loofah sponge after listening to this one. It's another wild ride with Hawk as he continues to delve into the twisted minds of far-right Christian nationalists hellbent on establishing a real-life Gilead (not the land of milk and honey one, rather the one where everyone is evil). First up is Russell Vaught, a "battle-tested bureaucrat" who wants to turn the presidency into an absolute dictatorship if Trump gets re-elected. With his "radical constitutionalism" agenda, Vaught dreams of mass deportations, criminalizing abortion nationwide, and unleashing the military on American soil to crush dissent. What a sweetheart. But wait, there's more! We also meet the Society for American Civic Renewal (SACR for short), a creepy men's club that wants to create a patriarchal Christian ethnostate. Their goals include expelling non-Christians, stripping LGBTQ rights, and reviving feudalism à la apartheid South Africa. And it's all run by a shampoo mogul calling himself the "Maximum Leader" from his poetically named "Howdy Doody Good Times Foundation." You can't make this stuff up! First a pillow guy and now a shampoo guy? What's next, the truck nuts guy?In the end, Hawk is left feeling spiritually polluted after diving down this unsettling rabbit hole of white Christian extremism. At least these wackos provide unintentional comic relief amidst their chilling authoritarianism and hate-filled bigotry. It's both hilarious and terrifying how these wealthy radicals are dead serious about their unhinged fantasies of religious ethnic cleansing. Hawk mocks Bannon's legal team and revels in the fact that Bannon's popular right-wing podcast will be off the air during the critical months leading up to the November election. Hawk then launches into a wide-ranging discussion of current events, sarcastically criticizing Republicans like Matt Gaetz, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Charlie Kirk for their outrage over Bannon's sentence.Hawk goes on to analyze the implications of Donald Trump's guilty verdict in the Manhattan case, speculating that it could impact his ability to travel internationally as a convicted felon. Hawk also gleefully notes that Trump's gun permits may be revoked. He expresses disbelief at some Republicans' nostalgia for the Jim Crow era and condemns the Republican party's recent anti-LGBTQ rhetoric in Colorado. In the final part of the episode, Hawk issues a serious warning that the next five months leading up to the election could see an increase in right-wing political violence from "lone wolf" actors. He meticulously debunks the film's claims, revealing its faulty methodology, misleading assertions, and lack of credible evidence. Hawk exposes the film's creators, Dinesh D'Souza and the organization True the Vote, detailing their history of spreading misinformation, engaging in voter suppression tactics, and facing legal consequences for their actions.Hawk also provides a scathing critique of Dinesh D'Souza, the filmmaker behind "2000 Mules." He outlines D'Souza's controversial career, including his time in the Reagan administration, his felony conviction for illegal campaign contributions, and his pardon by Donald Trump. Hawk dissects several of D'Souza's books, highlighting their offensive and inaccurate content, such as defending slave owners and blaming the American left for 9/11. He emphasizes that D'Souza's work, including his documentaries, is primarily driven by financial gain rather than truth.Throughout the episode, Hawk underscores his main point: "It's always about the grift." He argues that figures like D'Souza and organizations like True the Vote exploit the fears and gullibility of the Republican base for financial gain. He cites numerous examples, from the $10 million earned by "2000 Mules" in its first two weeks to True the Vote's failed attempts to raise millions for various causes. Colangelo meticulously lays out the prosecution's case, accusing Trump of orchestrating a criminal conspiracy to influence the 2016 presidential election by concealing damaging information about himself and paying hush money to adult film actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal.Hawk asserts that the prosecution not only met but exceeded the commitments made in their opening statement, delivering overwhelming evidence that aligned precisely with Colangelo's outline. Hawk, details how the tape, which featured Donald Trump making lewd comments about women, was incredibly damaging to his campaign and led many Republicans to withdraw their support or call for him to drop out of the race. In response, Trump's campaign worked with Russian intelligence and WikiLeaks to release hacked emails from the Clinton campaign as a distraction from the tape's fallout.Hawk cites evidence from the Mueller Report and a 2020 Senate Intelligence Committee report, both of which confirmed that the Trump campaign welcomed and encouraged the release of emails stolen by Russian hackers and funneled through WikiLeaks. Roger Stone, a close Trump ally, had advance knowledge of the WikiLeaks releases and coordinated with the campaign to maximize their impact. The host emphasizes that every key member of Trump's campaign knew the emails had been hacked by Russian intelligence and exploited them for political gain. The episode also touches on the ongoing criminal trial against Trump for the hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal. Hawk suggests that the campaign's urgency to "catch and kill" the Stormy Daniels story in the aftermath of the Access Hollywood tape was a factor in Trump's decision to pay her off. Hawk discusses two major threats to American democracy leading up to the 2024 election. First, he highlights an article detailing the Republican Party's coordinated efforts to restrict voting access and intimidate voters, especially in minority communities. This includes recruiting over 100,000 partisan "poll watchers," challenging voter signatures on mail-in ballots, and seeking to overturn laws prohibiting voter intimidation. Hawk draws parallels to past voter suppression tactics used by Republicans. The second major topic is a concerning interview Donald Trump gave to Time Magazine, where he outlined his agenda for a potential second term as president. This includes detaining and deporting over 11 million undocumented immigrants, allowing states to monitor and prosecute women over abortion, withholding funds from states that don't follow his policies, pardoning all January 6th insurrectionists, leaving NATO, and staffing his administration with loyalists who believe the 2020 election was stolen.Hawk expresses alarm over Trump's openly autocratic ambitions and the organized efforts by right-wing groups to implement his vision from "day one" if elected, including pre-drafting executive orders and training over 50,000 new bureaucrats. He urges listeners to read the full interview, remain informed, and be prepared to have difficult conversations to persuade potential Trump voters given the grave threats to American democracy that a second Trump term would pose. This episode covers the contempt hearing where prosecutors sought to have Donald Trump held in contempt for violating the court's gag order nearly a dozen times. Prosecutor Chris Conroy argued that Trump's social media posts attacking witnesses like Michael Cohen and the jurors posed a threat to the proceedings and intimidated participants. He asked the judge to sanction Trump sufficiently to make him stop violating the order.Trump's defense attorney Todd Blanche countered that Trump did nothing intentional and that his posts constituted protected political speech since he is a presidential candidate. However, Judge Juan Merchon repeatedly pushed back on Blanche's arguments, at one point telling him bluntly "you are losing all credibility with this court." The judge seemed unconvinced by Blanche's claims that Trump's reposts didn't violate the order. After the contentious hearing, Trump complained about the gag order on Truth Social, accusing the judge of violating his free speech rights. The episode then provided context about how last week, moderate Republicans and Democrats in the House joined forces to sideline the Freedom Caucus and pass bills opposed by Trump and his allies. Hawk covers the upcoming criminal trial of former President Donald Trump, which is set to begin on Monday April 15, 2024 in Manhattan. Trump is facing 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal during the 2016 presidential campaign. The charges stem from a complex timeline of events involving Trump, his former lawyer Michael Cohen, and the publisher of the National Enquirer, David Pecker. In 2015-2016, Pecker agreed to help Trump's campaign by "catching and killing" any stories about Trump's alleged affairs. Cohen then facilitated the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels and the $150,000 payment to Karen McDougal to prevent them from going public before the 2016 election. After the election, Trump reimbursed Cohen through a series of fraudulent payments disguised as legal fees.Hawk explains the process of how documents and witness testimony will be introduced as evidence in the trial. He also discusses the importance of the jury selection process, as the defense is expected to use both peremptory challenges and challenges for cause to try to stack the jury in Trump's favor. Hawk predicts the jury selection alone could take 2-3 weeks, with the full trial potentially lasting 4-6 weeks. Finally, Hawk notes that given the unique nature of this case involving a former president, the judge has been careful to balance firmness on trial dates with giving the defense ample opportunity to make their case. White Christian Nationalism - Part 3

In part 3 of this series, Hawk continues his deep dive into the ideology of White Christian Nationalism in the United States. He defines it as a political movement that exploits religion for political gain, driven by well-funded elites rather than a grassroots effort. At its core is the belief that America was founded as a Christian nation for white Europeans, and that laws should be based on the Bible to maintain the power and control of straight, white, Christian men over other groups. Hawk highlights how organizations promoting this ideology rewrite history and create alternative "patriot" materials reframing the origins of America through their racist lens.Hawk draws from interviews and books analyzing data and surveys of white Christian nationalist supporters. A striking contrast emerged - white respondents viewed America as a nostalgic return to an authoritarian, segregated past, while Black Christian respondents saw it more aspirationally, as a nation striving to uphold its ideals of equality. Hawk exposes the "holy trinity" underpinning their beliefs of freedom for themselves, order imposed on others, and the embrace of violence through unrestricted gun rights to dominate over minority groups. The ultimate goal, according to Hawk's research, is for white Christian nationalists to control all levers of government after a potential Trump re-election in 2024. This would enable them to remake America as an authoritarian, Christian nationalist society led by straight white men, revoking rights from those deemed insufficiently Christian, non-white, LGBTQ or female. Hawk warns this anti-democratic movement represents an existential threat to American pluralism and freedoms. White Christian Nationalism - Part 1

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 11, 2024 47:21

In the latest episode of Hawk's Droppings, Hawk guides the audience through a peculiar journey into the world of white Christian nationalism. It all started when a curious comment prompted the exploration of this strange concoction, likened to the worst smoothie ever – a blend of Jesus, right-wing politics, racism, sexism, homophobia, and bigotry, with a dash of supremacy for texture. Hawk questions whether believers genuinely embrace these ideas or if it's just a power trip, creating a psychological puzzle to unravel. The narrative rewinds to the '70s and '80s, the birth era of the conservative Christian movement. Contrary to popular belief, it wasn't Roe v. Wade but the aftermath of the Brown v. Board of Education in 1954 that ignited this movement, primarily fueled by resistance to desegregation. As overt racism became socially unacceptable, the movement pivoted to abortion as its rallying cry. However, racism persisted, donning a different disguise. Fast-forward to the 2020s, and the perplexing mix of religion and politics leaves observers scratching their heads.Engaging with Jeff Charlotte's book, "The Undertow," Hawk explores the slow civil war between right-wing politics and religion. The evolution of religion into delusion, division into distrust, and hatred into fantasies of violence is meticulously unveiled. This movement continues to evolve, now incorporating nationalism, asserting that the United States is divinely ordained as a white Christian nation. It's a mind-boggling journey, and as Hawk unravels the web, each revelation makes the narrative weirder.Wrapping up part one, Hawk tantalizes with an intriguing tidbit about Jericho marches organized by Christian nationalist groups between the 2020 election and inauguration day. Drawing inspiration from Joshua 1:9, these events blend Old Testament vengeance vibes with eerie realism. Amidst this, Hawk hints at a new documentary by Rob Reiner called "God in Country," focusing on white Christian nationalism, promising a deeper dive in part two. Stay tuned for the continuation of this exploration into the strange world of white Christian nationalism. In this episode Hawk delves into the intricacies of the 92-page order delivered by Judge Arthur Engoron in the Civil Fraud Trial brought by New York State Attorney General Letitia James against Donald Trump, his two adult sons, and the Trump Organization. The burden of proof in this case, being a civil one, is the preponderance of evidence, a lower standard than in criminal cases. Hawk then provides an overview of the seven causes of action in the case and highlights the significant motion for summary judgment granted by the judge, establishing a decade-long pattern of fraudulent behavior. The episode breaks down the defenses presented by the Trumps and their attorneys, including claims of no fraud and shifting blame to accountants. Hawk discusses the judge's comprehensive findings of fact and reveals the extent of deception, including false financial statements, persistent fraud, and deceitful practices. They basically lied to everyone about everything all of the time, including lying to one another. In the latter part of the podcast, the discussion centers around various witnesses and their testimonies in the trial. Notably, the focus is on Michael Cohen, who, despite being a convicted perjurer, was deemed credible by the court. Cohen's testimony was corroborated by other trial evidence. The judge's assessment of Cohen's credibility is highlighted, underscoring the importance of his truthful testimony despite the evident animosity between him and Donald Trump. Additionally there were inadequacies and contradictions of expert witnesses presented by the Trump defense team. Several experts are discussed with the court finding their testimonies lacking credibility, being inconsistent, unsupported, and contradicted by other evidence.  SUPPORT & CONNECT WITH HAWK - Support on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/mdg650hawk - Support Hawk's Merch Store: https://hawkmerchstore.com - Connect on TikTok:  https://www.tiktok.com/@mdg650hawk7thacct - Connect on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@hawkpodcasts   ALL HAWK PODCASTS INFO - Additional Podcasts Available Here: https://www.hawkpodcasts.com - Listen to Hawk Droppings On Your Favorite Platform: - Spotify: https://spoti.fi/3RWeJfy - Apple Podcasts: https://apple.co/422GDuL - YouTube: https://youtube.com/@hawkpodcasts - iHeartRadio: https://ihr.fm/47vVBdP - Pandora: https://bit.ly/48COaTB - Simplecast: https://hawk-droppings.simplecast.com - Hawk Droppings RSS Feed: https://feeds.simplecast.com/pPVtxSNJ

Discussion includes the 5th circuit court of appeals covers Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi and the district courts within the 5th circuit, how things are structured, the responsibilities of each court and how appeals work with circuit courts. The 5th circuit is one of the most conservative circuit courts in the country. Of the 17 active judges only 2 were appointed by democrats and 6 of them were appointed by Donald Trump. There are 9 senior judges that have a large body of experience that basically work 1/2 time and have not yet retired. The only court that is above the circuit courts is the United States Supreme Court.Hawk specifically discusses a court within the 5th circuit containing around 20-30 counties in North Texas. Of interest is a case that is pending with the US Supreme Court  Securities and Exchange Comission v. Jarkesy which came from an appellate decision that was written in the 5th circuit (link below):https://www.supremecourt.gov/docket/docketfiles/html/public/22-859.htmlThis case has the potential to gut the regulation and enforcement capacities of departments and agencies within the Executive Branch of United States Government.  This could create a level of havoc in the United States by rendering parts of the Executive Branch toothless. Republicans love this because they hate regulation and government. Project 2025 is a plan to reshape the executive branch of the U.S. federal government in the event of a Republican victory in the2024 U.S. presidential election. Established in 2022, the project seeks to recruit tens of thousands of conservatives toWashington, D.C., to replace existing federal civil service workers it characterizes as the "deep state", to further the objectives of the next Republican president. Although participants in the project cannot promote a specific presidential candidate, many have close ties toDonald Trump and theTrump 2024 presidential campaign. The plan would perform a swift takeover of the entire executive branch under a maximalist version of the unitary executive theory— a theory proposing the president of the United States has absolute power over the executive branch upon inauguration. The development of the plan is led by the Heritage Foundation, an American conservative think tank, in collaboration with some eighty partners including Turning Point USA led by Charlie Kirk; the Conservative Partnership Institute including former Trump chief of staff Mark Meadows as senior partner; the Center for Renewing America led by former Trump-appointee Office of Management and Budget director Russell Vought; and America First Legal led by former Trump senior advisor Stephen Miller.
