I'll also provide a brief recap of the recently killed FREE Act in the General Assembly. In the opening we'll discuss a new term that I learned about and how it pertained to my knee surgery. You can subscribe to or follow the podcast on Apple or Spotify, or on your favorite podcast platform – Rumble | YouTube | Overcast | Amazon Music | iHeartRadio | Pocket Casts | RadioPublicJoin me on social media:Twitter – both at @LarryForTN12 @LiesLibertyTruth Social – @LarryForTN12Instagram – @larry_for_tn12 @libertyleadershipandliesFacebook – both at Larry Linton - Sevier County Conservative Activist Liberty, Leadership and LiesGab – @LarryLintonGETTR – @LarryLintonTelegram – t.me/libertyleadershipandliesOr on the web at – https://libertyleadershipandlies.com#LarryForTN12 #LintonForTN12 #LarryLintonForTN12 #LibertyLeadershipAndLies #Liberty #Leadership #Lies #Constitutionalist #Conservative #Tennessee #StandInTheArena #PrincipledLeadership #ServantLeadership #FYP #GOP #RepublicanParty

In today's episode we will discuss how the Tennessee General Assembly lurched to the left dramatically this past week on the notion that it can sell liberty to Tennesseans through the recently passed voucher scheme, and what that means going forward. Here is a hint, throw the bums out and get people into office that will repeal that law. I'll also talk about an upcoming meeting here in Sevier County that has me a bit perplexed about what local government is prioritizing through the expenditure of local tax revenue and is it getting into an area it doesn't have authority to. According to Heritagediscovered.com, with there being nearly 48 million Black people in the US today, Black genealogy research can be a real challenge, especially for finding families before the 1870 census, the first census to name many Black people for the first time. Researching African American ancestors, whether freed or formerly enslaved, can be time consuming, yet fortunately, more resources are coming online as records get digitized to help you build your family tree.In this episode we speak with Viola Baskerville, Suzanne Walker, and Shamele Jordan.Viola Baskerville is a Richmond, Virginia native; however, she traces her paternal ancestry to several families with deep roots in both Buckingham and Cumberland Counties in Virginia. She has traced her maternal lines to King William County, Virginia and Sevier County, Arkansas. Shamele Jordan is a professional genealogist, producer, writer, and lecturer. Her biographical highlights include: award winning TV producer of Genealogy Quick Start, and researcher for the PBS series Oprah's Roots: African American Lives I and II. She is the former president of the African American Genealogy Group in Philadelphia.Suzanne Walker is president of the Arlington VA chapter of the Links Incorporated and is a Family History Enthusiast. She has been curious about her family history for a very long time, and is focusing on research on her great grandmother being an enslaved person in Virginia. She promotes Black people honoring and knowing our history and believes it is a legacy worth preserving.
In this episode I discuss the many reasons why the modern American Church lost, or is losing, the culture wars. Another "I told you so" for the voters of Sevier County recently occurred. Early voting trends across the country are looking good, but we still must execute. Are we going to experience the dying gasps of our Constitutional Republic, or are there enough people that love freedom going to execute during this final week? When it comes to undecided voters, the question isn't about personalities. It is what can you live without to get what you want? In this episode I discuss and provide examples of how the modern Democrat, really the Communist, Party are one of, if not the, biggest threats to the liberty of the citizens of this great Republic. In this episode I discuss how the lies the communist spread are intended to cause harm, specifically to President Trump. I also found a new way to handle the trolls on social media. Additionally, I discuss the lie about government investment close to home in Sevier County. I want to encourage everybody to vote and vote early. This week we venture to Sevier County, TN to the haunted Wheatlands Plantation. This antebellum home has seen more than it's share of murder, death, and violence, potentially fueled by a geode upon which the house was reportedly built. Are the spirits of former slaves still lingering on the property? Is a father-son feud that ended in murder still playing out within the house to this day? Find out as we explore who, or what, might be lingering at Wheatlands! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/appalachianspookyhour/support
Today, we are joined by Larry Linton, Republican candidate for District 12 State Representative. Larry has run up against a little tomfoolery in Sevier County, where the county GOP is proving that rules, apparently, are only for the other guy. When it comes to selecting its preferred candidate, Republicans' doctrine is: “Bylaws for thee , not for me.” And you thought monkey business was limited to the zoo.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Elyse Bruce, Creative Dynamo. Elyse's newest Missy Barrett mystery, The Case of the Missing Muskets, includes a chapter in which Missy and her mother visit the Frank & Friends Show. Frank and his wife Jere had leg-of-lamb for Easter. They tried to find a jar of mint jelly at a supermarket, which did not have any. The store's app lets you order mint jelly for $47. Jere finally found mint jelly at a competing supermarket for $3. Last Christmas, Elyse had difficulty finding mincemeat in local stores. Mincemeat is actually chopped fruit and nuts soaked in rum or other spirits. The supermarket staff sent her to the meat counter instead. Frank thinks that Easter candy is better than Halloween candy because he believes that Spring is better than Fall. Elyse is an October baby and prefers Fall. This episode is sponsored by BoneZones.com (don't forget the S). Buy books and other merchandise autographed by Body Farm founder Dr. Bill Bass at https://bonezones.com/ including Body Farm t-shirts. Contact BoneZones to hire Frank to give a presentation about Dr. Bass and the Body Farm. Elyse writes books about a fictional nine-year-old detective named Missy Barrett, who lives in Sevier County. Elyse created International Missy Barrett Day: A Day To Do Good Deeds and the Missy Barrett Stamp and Sticker Search in Sevier County. In The Case of the Missing Muskets, Missy visits her Grandpa's farm and falls into a hole that turns out to be a Civil War hiding place. She discovers blankets, coins and ammunition but no muskets. Elyse writes each weekday for four hours or 1500 words, whichever comes first. Her progress can get slowed by the research she needs to do to find the necessary details for the story. Elyse has a blog called Idiomation which can be found at https://idiomation.wordpress.com/ It was cited in Uncle John's Bathroom Reader and several other books. She started the blog to help her son, who is autistic, to understand figures of speech more easily. The idiom “water off a duck's back” makes Frank think of the ducklings his parents gave to him and his sisters for Easter one year. Frank wants to see the total solar eclipse on Monday. He thinks a partial eclipse is not as good as 100%. Knoxville will see only 88% totality. Elyse invited Frank to read his chapter during the book launch for The Case of the Missing Muskets on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 3:30 p.m. at the King Family Public Library, 408 High Street, Sevierville, TN. Before you read about it on CBS News or even our own USA TODAY, Knox News was first to report that a Dolly Parton and Beyoncé collaboration could be happening as part of the latter's album "Cowboy Carter." How did we know? Trending news reporter Devarrick Turner straight-up asked Parton during a Dollywood interview, and she seemed eager to spill the tea. The result was a whirlwind of coverage related to the possibility of a "Jolene" cover, all citing Knox News and Turner's work. Turner joins host Ryan Wilusz on this week's episode to discuss why he asked the question in the first place, what it's like to interview Parton and how the media craze caused by his reporting unfolded right before his eyes. >> Link: Will Dolly Parton be on Beyoncé's new country album? Here's what Dolly had to say >> Link: Hear and see Dolly Parton on Beyoncé's new album 'Cowboy Carter' >> Link: Will Knoxville radio play Beyonce's cover of ‘Jolene' or shops sell 'Cowboy Carter' vinyl? Frank Murphy is joined by his friend Sarah Roberto, who says she is merry and bright, like the words on her sweatshirt. Frank is wearing a loud Christmas blazer that he bought at Kroger. Sarah notices the antique Christmas ornaments that were once owned by Jere's Aunt Dee. Jere will sing at a Christmas Eve Mass. Frank signed up to read at the Midnight Mass after finally finding his password for the ministry app on his phone. When Frank was a kid, his parents would buy their Christmas tree on Christmas Eve and keep it up into January. Frank wishes radio stations kept playing Christmas music until New Year's Day. Brenda Lee's “Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree” is number one on Billboard's chart this week. Billboard changed the way they do their charts several years ago. Frank's favorite Christmas song is “A Christmas Festival Overture” by the Boston Pops. Sarah's favorite Christmas song is "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" by Gayla Peevey. Hippos are the deadliest large land mammals. Frank and Jere went to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert at Thompson-Boling Arena. He says the audience sits through most of the show and the volume is not too loud. They sat close enough to feel the heat from the fire effects on stage. Sarah asks about raucous concerts. Frank recalls a punk rock show where he slam-danced unenthusiastically. Sarah got injured at a Foo Fighters concert in Atlanta in 2000. Frank is dissatisfied with the over-abundance of secular Christmas songs on American radio. He also dislikes down-tempo songs. Frank listens online to Ireland's ChristmasFM. Sarah's favorite Christmas movies are National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Elf. She says It's a Wonderful Life is too depressing. She likes The Holiday and Last Holiday. Frank watched a Christmas rom-com last year that starred Lindsey Lohan. Frank and Sarah both watched a Dolly Parton Christmas movie on NBC last year. It wasn't very good but it was fun to see many familiar faces from Sevier County. Frank and Sarah agree that The Polar Express is a creepy-looking movie. Sarah says the twenty-foot skeleton on Frank's street has lost its head. Frank thinks his neighbor is probably removing its pilgrim hat to add a Santa hat. The skeleton is pictured on Google Street View. Frank disliked the noise being made by a holly tree scraping against the house. As he pruned away the problem branches, his neighbor asked if he planned to put Christmas lights on the tree. Frank recalls a time that Frank Jr. told Mark & Brian on KLOS that Grandma snores. She was unhappy when the man who owned the pool supply store said, “Hey Grandma, I heard that you snore!” This episode is sponsored by BoneZones.com (don't forget the S). Our conversation today with Andy Gail, Executive Director for Literacy Volunteers Winchester Area gave us an update on several of their adult learning programs as well as details about the wide variety of topics they cover through classes and tutoring. Andy also gave a few statistics about how many books they're sending to children in the city of Winchester, Frederick & Clarke Counties through their partnership with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. The program was developed in 1995 by Dolly for her hometown of Sevier County, Tennessee. She wanted every preschool child to have their own library of books. Learn more about it here: https://imaginationlibrary.com/ As part of the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, sponsorships finance the cost of books and mailing. From the day they are born, children who are registered for the program receive a book every month until their fifth birthday. Preschoolers currently living in the City of Winchester, the County of Frederick, or the County of Clarke may enter the program at any time and begin receiving an age-appropriate book every month until their fifth birthday. Families with preschool children who move into the city are eligible to register and become part of the program. If a family has more than one preschool-age child, each child may participate and receive his/her own library. Frank shows Kathryn some birthday cards that he bought for his wife Jere's birthday and for his grandson Artie's birthday. Kathryn doesn't make a big deal out of her birthday. Her ideal birthday is to go to the spa and have time to herself. She's considering a new washer and dryer to be her birthday gift. She and her husband James will probably go out for a steak dinner. Frank mentions that he sometimes receives restaurant gift cards as a thank-you gift after emceeing a charity event. Jere buys gift cards at the supermarket to get extra gas points. Frank gave his wife Jere a Polish butter dish for her birthday. Jere's sister Peggy also gave her a Polish butter dish. Frank thinks Jere should keep the butter dish from Peggy and re-gift the dish that he bought. When Frank was visiting Northern Virginia, he noticed many gigantic buildings that house the computers in “the cloud” in the area near Dulles Airport. He was glad to have Peruvian chicken for dinner one night and shepherd's pie on St. Patrick's Day. Kathryn and her husband went to Sevier County on St. Patrick's Day. They tasted ciders at the Tennessee Cider Company and went to SkyFly: Soar America at the Island in Pigeon Forge. This episode is sponsored by The Middleburg Barn at Fox Chase Farm. At first, it appeared real estate entrepreneur Shannon Hercutt died after her Cadillac plunged in August 2009 over a Sevier County, Tennessee cliff. Several days later, police realized she'd actually been killed and the crash made to look like an accident. Hercutt's sister accused their father of hiring someone to kill Shannon. Authorities, however, don't think that's true. Thousands of dollars in reward money remains available for the tip that breaks the case. The killer, however, still walks free.
