A federal grand jury in the Southern District of Florida returned a superseding indictment on March 10, 2026, charging Timothy Hudson, sixteen, with first-degree murder under 18 U.S.C. §1111(a) and aggravated sexual abuse under 18 U.S.C. §2241(a)(1) in the death of his eighteen-year-old stepsister Anna Kepner aboard the Carnival Horizon cruise ship. The case was formally transferred from juvenile to adult prosecution on April 10 after a federal magistrate judge approved the government's request. Both charges carry a maximum sentence of life in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000 per count. The death penalty is constitutionally barred because the defendant was a minor at the time of the alleged offense.Kepner, of Titusville, Florida, was found dead in her stateroom on November 7, 2025, while the ship was returning to PortMiami from international waters. Her body was located under the bed, wrapped in a blanket and covered in life vests. The medical examiner determined the cause of death to be mechanical asphyxiation. Because the alleged crime occurred in international waters, the case falls under federal jurisdiction.The superseding indictment alleges Hudson sexually assaulted Kepner by force and intentionally killed her during or in connection with the assault. Security footage from the ship reportedly shows Hudson was the only individual who entered and exited the stateroom during the relevant time period. Kepner's younger brother was outside the room and reportedly heard sounds consistent with a violent struggle. The defendant was on prescribed medication for ADHD and insomnia and reportedly had not taken his insomnia medication for two consecutive nights prior to the incident. Text messages between the defendant's parents, released through a separate custody proceeding, indicate Hudson's mother stated he repeatedly said he could not remember anything.Hudson was initially charged under seal in juvenile court on February 2, 2026, surrendered on February 3, and pleaded not guilty. He was released to the custody of his uncle under GPS monitoring with restrictions prohibiting unsupervised contact with any person under eighteen. On April 13, prosecutors filed a motion seeking to revoke Hudson's release and detain him pending trial. The defendant's attorneys have until April 20 to respond. Anna Kepner's father, Christopher Kepner, stated the family is placing trust in the justice system but expressed concern that Hudson has remained free despite the gravity of the charges. November 8, 2025, a small SUV drives up to the Carnival cruise ship docked at Port Miami. Man Overboard and An Art Heist is the lead story on a special unscheduled edition of Travel and Cruise Industry News Podcast for November 4, 2023 with Chillie Falls. A somber event cast a shadow on Norwegian Pearl during the Lamb of God Headbangers Boat charter cruise, when a 41 year old man went overboard in the early hours of November 3, 2023. The incident unfolded as the ship sailed near the Bahamas, on its way back to Miami, Florida A search for the missing passenger was quickly initiated. However, after a nine-hour search, the Captain of Norwegian Pearl was forced to cancel the search and rescue mission, and the vessel resumed her course to PortMiami. Meanwhile, Two passengers aboard a Carnival cruise ship swiped a pair of art pieces valued at nearly $13,000, but a search warrant has successfully recovered both small sculptures. While the passengers have not yet been charged with the theft, further legal action could be taken. Carnival President Christine Duffy visited Carnival Sunrise today as guests boarded the ship at PortMiami, where the cruise line was founded, to thank them for choosing fun since 1972 and making Carnival the world's most popular cruise line. The milestone was commemorated as Debbie and David Clifford, who are vacationing from Ohio and representing Carnival guests everywhere as the 100 millionth, boarded the ship with their family. They were recognised with fanfare from Duffy and the ship's team members, who are led by Captain Luca Cherchi. The all-suite yacht was cut in half/lengthened with 50 new suites and has two new restaurants, a true spa/fitness centre, and more efficient engines, among other improvements.Silversea Cruises Cuts Steel for Second Nova-Class ShipLeading ultra-luxury travel brand Silversea Cruises® officially begins the construction of Silver Ray℠, the second ship in the Nova class, holding a traditional steel cutting ceremony at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, on November 23. Silver Ray is set to join her sister ship, Silver Nova℠, as one of the most environmentally conscious ships ever built when she launches in summer 2024. The cruise line has taken the opportunity to set a new launch date for Silver Nova, which, due to the global situation, is now expected to join Silversea's fleet on August 14, 2023, sailing round-trip from Fusina (Venice) on her maiden voyage.Silversea's Nova-class ships are set to become the world's first low-emissions cruise ships with advanced hybrid technology that utilise fuel cells, batteries, and dual-fuel engines that use liquefied natural gas, emitting zero local emissions while in port. A first for Silversea, each will incorporate a horizontal layout and an innovative asymmetrical design, with public spaces and suites spanning the entire length of each ship, and each will enrich guests' travels with an unprecedented openness to the destination.Seabourn Venture arrives in Antarctica for the first time. Seabourn, reached another milestone with Seabourn Venture making its first-ever visit to Antarctica.
