This past year was drier in Mazatlan, Mexico than it's been since 1964! Needless to say that with less water on the landscape there were fewer ducks. Given advanced notice, most guests came anyway and even had a great time. Because it's a total-experience adventure.  Hamas' deadly attacks on southern Israel on Oct. 7 left an estimated 1,200 people dead and 250 taken as hostages. Most of the world first saw the terrifying videos and images from the Nova music festival. We hear from witnesses who bore the brunt of these attacks and how they feel today. And, Israel is still planning to attack the southern Gaza city of Rafah, which borders Egypt. Nearly half of Gaza's 2.3 million residents have been pushed there to take shelter as Israel continues to strike hard against Hamas. Also, a total solar eclipse makes its way across Mexico, the US and Canada on Monday. The city of Mazatlan, on the Pacific coast of Mexico, was the first place in continental North America on the path of totality, and more than half a million people traveled there to see it. Plus, Brazil's Kamilla Cardoso is named "most outstanding player" of NCAA tournament. 

It's almost time! The total solar eclipse is upon us, and while Los Angeles and Southern California are not along the path of totality and will only see a partial eclipse, that doesn't mean local astronomers and scientists aren't watching intently. LAist Climate Emergency Reporter Erin Stone join us from an eclipse watch party at Caltech's Cahill Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics, because where better to view this phenomenon? Plus, Mazatlan, Mexico will be the first place in North America to see the total solar eclipse at approximately 11:07 a.m. Pacific Time, when they will experience totality. We'll talk with LAist listener and longtime Angeleno Eric Streit who now lives in Mazatlan and will be watching the eclipse with other Angelenos who have traveled to his home there for this unique experience.
