On February 17 the Idaho House Committee on Judiciary, Rules, and Administration held a public hearing on our Article V application (HCR 10) to rein in federal power as well as our 34Ready bill (HCR 9) which would set the procedural rules for selecting and guiding commissioners to an Article V convention. Send us a textIn this special edition of our podcast we look back in Memoriam to three people who passed away in August of 2024. They are our podcasts legal advisor, James Wiles, a retired lawyer who lived here in Myrtle Beach and was active in Republican Party Politics, working on several campaigns for Horry County Council, Myrtle Beach City Council, and Myrtle Beach Mayor, he also helped in a couple of congressional Races and he worked on the Presidential Campaign of Rick Santorum. He later became an advisor to this podcast, starting around our 30th episode and really gave us solid advice as we dealt with the series on Former President Richard Nixon. He was a good friend and will be missed. When we were running our series on Richard Nixon we often heard the voice of CBS Newsman Phil Jones, he covered the Watergate story and then seven more Presidents from Richard Nixon to George W. Bush before retiring in the early 2000s He passed away in late August at the age of 87. Finally, we look back at television talk show pioneer, Phil Donahue. He made our show for two very personal stories to us at this podcast. He had Rita Jenrette on his show and it was then , in prime time that our Congressman called in and made national news. It was an episode everyone in Myrtle Beach in that era always remembered. Then there is a love story like no other. When Phil Donahue met Marlo Thomas on his television show and it was love at first sight and on live television. Everyone watching could see the chemistry on full display. We should all be so lucky. They were married for 44 years and there was just as much chemistry between them in their last appearance on TV as there was in their first. It is one of our hosts favorite stories to retell. (Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, Rick Santorum and Paul Ryan--all of whom support amnesty).BONUS! Tips for Democrats:1)  Be sure your primaries include lots of candidates who will never be the nominee.  You don't want your base getting too focused on the actual purpose of the exercise.2) Hold 312 primary debates.  We Republicans find that lots of debates encourage attention-seekers and nuts to throw their hat in the ring.3)  Extend your primaries through July, or at least June, especially when running against an incumbent president.  It really keeps the nominee on his toes to have only three months to campaign against a candidate who's been campaigning for four years.

On February 14, 2024, the Idaho Senate Judiciary and Rules Committee heard public testimony and voted on Convention of States Action's Article V application for proposing term limits on federal officials, fiscal restraints, and other limits on the federal government's power. Rick Santorum gave expert testimony. The final vote was 6-3 in favor of advancing the resolution to the Idaho Senate floor.

A subcommittee of the Iowa House State Government Committee hears public testimony on our Article V application February 6, 2024, and advanced the Convention of States Action resolution to the full committee. Rick Santorum gave expert testimony. 

According to conservative commentator Ann Coulter, the pro-life movement “has gone from compassion for the child to cruelty to the mother (and child). Trisomy 18 is not a condition that is compatible with life.” She was referring to a Texas Supreme Court decision rejecting a woman's request for an abortion on the basis of a health exception. Trisomy 18 is a genetic disorder of which 50% of babies die within their first week of life and 90-95% don't survive after one year.   But this shows why phrases like “incompatible with life” are so problematic. Former presidential candidate Rick Santorum responded to Coulter with a photo of his daughter Bella, who has Trisomy 18, and is now 15 years old.   Trisomy 18 does not risk the life of the mom. And Trisomy 18 does not make a baby less human, and therefore no less valuable. But adopting language like “incompatible with life” will make doing the right thing far less likely.
