It's always great to welcome back birthday twin Kevin Day (@kevinhunterday) to the show. First up, once I learned Kevin had been a fan of World of Sport wrestling growing up, I knew that would be the subject of his next appearance. Since he was casual fan watching, he brings a different perspective to the business than most of our usual guests, who are historians or competitors themselves. We talk about how it evolves over the 20+ years it was on ITV in the UK and chat about most of the well-known names: host Kent Walton, Big Daddy (no HOF talk here), Giant Haystacks, Mick McManus, Kendo Nagasaki (I explain to Kevin about his Japanese namesake in 80s American wrestling), Johnny Saint, Steve/William Regal, Robbie Brookside, Catweazle and others. But we spent a lot of time talking about Adrian Street. (Kevin was originally going to do the pod right after Adrian's death earlier this year). We talk about his career in the US and the UK, the famous photo (seen above) with his Welsh coal mining father in 1974, his influence on glam rock, how the character was presented at the time and now in present day and, of course, his infamous showdown with a certain disgraced UK TV presenter. From there, we discuss Kevin's new book he co-wrote with former guest Kieran Maguire and their Price of Football producer Guy Kitty called “Unfit and Improper Persons.” We discuss how the book came about as a way to discuss the myriad of issues in the world of football finance without it being just a textbook (since Kieran already wrote that book). Here, the three of them start a fictional football team named West Park Rovers and we follow their journey from pub team to Europa League participant. Along the way, they discuss many of the issues plaguing the modern game: financial fair play, sustainability, accessibility, inclusivity and, of course, amortization. There's also some chat about Lionel Messi in MLS, David Beckham, Pele, The New York Cosmos, Once in a Lifetime, the NASL, the NFL and other American sports. Wrapping up, we learned on the Price of Football that both Kieran and Kevin were also gamers and both were playing the new Zelda game, “Tears of the Kingdom.” We heard from Kieran a few months ago about his thoughts on the game and now we hear Kevin's opinions having finished the game and how it compared to its predecesor “Breath of the Wild.” And, by happenstance, we recorded the show the night before our two teams played in the Premier League, so there's some brief chat about the fortunes of our two clubs this year. I love talking to Kevin about old school British popular culture, as he provides an eye witness account on shows and sports I either watched here in the US on PBS with no cultural context (Monty Python, Doctor Who) or only discovered years later (Randall and Hopkirk, Dad's Army and Department S/Jason King for example).
Zak Zodiac comes from the famous Knight wrestling family in the UK, and explains what it was like growing up in the ring under the tutelage of his father Rowdy Ricky Knight and his mom, Julia Knight (aka Sweet Saraya). Zak talks about wrestling at the holiday camps in Britain when he was 6-years old, making his official debut at the age of 10, donning a Pink Power Ranger suit to have matches with his younger sister, Saraya, tagging with his older brother, Roy as the UK Hooligans, and learning from greats like Drew McDonald and Robbie Brookside. Zak also details his multiple tryouts for WWE, the opportunity he passed up with New Japan Pro Wrestling, and why he believes this is his year! Plus, he talks about the making of the movie “Fighting With My Family,” what it was like working with The Rock and Stephen Merchant, and the impact the film had on him both personally and professionally. In the latest 'Legends Masterclass' Episode 2, I sit down with another true legend of the Golden Era of pro-wrestling, Tony St. Clair. In part 1 of this two part interview, we discuss Tony's love for attending wrestling reunions and getting to catch up with many of his wrestling colleagues from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Tony discusses growing up in a wrestling family, with his father and brother taking him under their wing from a very early age. We take a look at the pro-wrestling landscape from the 1960's onwards, teaming with his brother and working the various wrestling groups in the 1970's and 80's and the rivalries that existed between during that era. Tony tells us about becoming World Heavyweight champion and a 4 time British Heavyweight Champion, including a reign that lasted for nearly 9 years. We talk about Tony's legendary career in Germany and how he went on to become one of the most beloved pro-wrestlers in the country, with his legendary feud with Fit Finlay that lasted for two decades. Plus, so much more! (Duration 47 minutes) This was a truly eye opening experience talking with Tony in episode 2 of 'Legend's Masterclass Series' and it was only part one of two. PART TWO will be dropping on all platforms Friday 2nd September 2022 - Where we will be discussing his time wrestling for New Japan Pro Wrestling and the many fantastic matches and friendships his had over 30 years in Japan. We look at many of his favourite matches and wrestlers to be in the ring with. Including, Rollerball Rocco, Robbie Brookside, Owen Hart and Fit Finlay. We also discuss his matches inside of a WWF ring in 1991 and his interaction's with Andre the Giant and Vince McMahon. #prowrestling #80'swrestling #legendswrestling #tonystclair #gianthaystacks #bigdaddy #indywrestling #wrestling #wwe #wrestlinginterview #aew #britwres #fitfinlay

The mid-80s was the best of times for the American wrestling scene, and the worst of times for their counterparts in the UK. This match is often cited as a sign of the beginning of the end for the old 'World of Sport'-defined culture of British wrestling leaving the terrestrial television airwaves. However, it is also a match containing one of the most well-remembered figures of the British scene in Kendo Nagasaki, and two young men who would go onto fly the flag of their country's style of wrestling in both the States and back in what was left of the British scene. Now they are two of the key figures in the WWE's developmental program. So what were Steve (William) Regal and Robbie Brookside like when they themselves were still nearer their rookie years than attaining veteran status? Lorcan (@lorcanmullan) and Simon (@simoncross3) are here to find out. https://patreon.com/lmtyspod https://facebook.com/lmtyspod https://twitter.com/lmtyspod lmtyspod@gmail.com

This week Flash is joined by a women who laid the foundations for the women's wrestling revolution here in Britain, Flash is joined by JETTA! Here they talk about her start in wrestling with NWA Hammerlock and how the scene was back in the early 2000's. They discuss about her breaking out and the influence Robbie Brookside and the rest of the All Star team had on her becoming well rounded performer. She chats about how a promo on a Ring Of Honor tour opened the door for her to become and international regular for shimmer. Then finally she opens up about why at the height of her notoriety she decided to leave wrestling and what made her come to this decision after 6 years to come back! It really is a full retrospect of the woman they call Jetta!
Sadly, we are once again starting with a 10 bell tribute to fallen comrades. In addition to Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart we lost former AAA star Arturo Hernandez, who competed as El Picudo and Devil Rocker, complete with KISS style make up and Ian "Doc" Dean, British star and former tag partner of current WWE trainer Robbie Brookside. We have invited some people who knew and worked with Jim to come on and share stories of him. Last night's RAW set up a MAJOR potential post SummerSlam program that was hinted at at the end of the show. We do know you NEVER want to say "BATter up" to Ronda Rousey! We'll explain in our recap. How was the reaction to Renee Young's first time ever in a commentary role? We have the reaction and probably a telltale sign from the Boss himself. Will the Triple Threat match for the SmackDown Womens title be turned into a Fatal Four Way for Sunday? We have information regarding a match that will happen tonight that could change the nature of Sunday's match. In regards to Sunday, we now have the pre-show match listing and at least two of them look to be rather good. In other news, Jeff Jarrett is going to court against Anthem Sports. The charges are very broad and we'll go over what the claims are and if there is any potential merit to them. The former Enzo Amore recently spoke to TMZ Sports regarding a lot of things, but one of them is a bold faced lie! We'll expose the "Realest liar in the room". All this and whatever else we can come up with with Steve, Katie, Sean and some of our friends tonight.

Brian Kendrick has been wrestling professionally around the world since 1999 after he himself trained under legendary wrestlers and trainers Shawn Michaels and Rudy Boy Gonzalez in Texas at the Shawn Michael’s Wrestling Academy then William Regal, Tracy Smothers, Robbie Brookside and Bobby Eaton in WWE’s developmental territory MCW in Memphis. He has taken their collective teachings and has used that knowledge to open up opportunities to wrestle in both the WWE and TNA in the United States, for NJPW, AJPW, Zero-One, and Hustle in Japan, as well as Mexico and throughout Europe and Australia on an independent level. Brian, at 5’9″ and around 175LBS, is not the size of a stereo typical Pro-Wrestler, with out any great athletic background, has been lucky enough to accomplish what he has thanks to great training and hard work. His hope is to pass on what he has learned and inspire students to work their hardest so they can achieve their dreams of allowing Pro Wrestling to take them around the world as well. We discuss all of this and so much more tonight!!!
