RNC chair Ronna McDaniel stated Sunday that Republican presidential hopefuls must support the eventual nominee to debate on the RNC stage. McDaniel says candidates must sign the commitment before the first primary debate in Milwaukee. But, former President Trump opposes the vow, citing his 2016 reluctance.

El debate sobre la dirección que debe tomar el partido fue muy acalorado. Se encuentran en una encrucijada que ha de dirimirse primero a escala estatal. Quieren superar la era Trump y hacerlo con la cooperación del expresidente para retener a los nuevos votantes que ha atraído en los últimos años. Hoy por hoy algo así se antoja imposible ya que el único candidato declarado oficialmente como tal para las primarias es Donald Trump. Se espera, eso sí, que le aparezca competencia en los próximos meses. En las disputas entre unos y otros muchos temen que se termine fracturando el partido e incluso que si Trump atisba la derrota decida ir por su cuenta y presentarse como candidato independiente. Eso supondría una tragedia para los republicanos ya que se llevaría consigo los votos necesarios para recuperar la presidencia. Lo que sucedió con Kevin McCarthy a principios de mes no invita al optimismo. Le hicieron falta quince votaciones para hacerse con la presidencia de la Cámara de Representantes. Si ese enfrentamiento se mantiene, las perspectivas electorales del partido son francamente desalentadoras. The city of Memphis braces for the release of body camera footage that shows the traffic stop and beating of Tyre Nichols by five former police officers. Ronna McDaniel is reelected Republican National Committee Chair.

After losing both chambers of Congress during Trump's presidency and after waging a disappointing campaign to recapture them in 2022, the Republican Party is having a lot of intra-party feuds. This week, the post-election search for new leadership moved to the Republican National Committee. Right now, there's no agreed-upon leader of the party, so like the recent battles in the Senate and the House, the RNC election has turned into a fight to define the GOP's future. And once again, Donald Trump is at the center of the debate. Playbook co-author Rachael Bade flew to Orange County, California, to watch the fireworks at the RNC's winter meeting, where the three-time incumbent chair Ronna McDaniel faced a challenge from conservative lawyer Harmeet Dhillon. To understand what this fight is all about, Rachael had breakfast with Bill Palatucci, a longtime party member who is also a close ally of Chris Christie's and a loud critic of Donald Trump. In this week's episode, Palatucci explains how the Dhillon-McDaniel contest isn't just about the RNC chairmanship – it's about who will lead the Republican Party into 2024 — and beyond — and why the GOP could languish for a very long time depending on the outcome. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 1: 3:05pm- According to a report from NJ.com, the New Jersey state government spent $522,000 in COVID-19 relief money on the purchase of eight SUVs used to transport Governor Phil Murphy and other state officials. Murphy's administration also spent an estimated $15 million to improve the state's prospects of hosting the 2026 World Cup. 3:10pm- Republican Dave McCormick is exploring the idea of running against U.S. Senator Bob Casey Jr. in 2024. In 2022, McCormick lost the Republican nomination for Pat Toomey's vacated Senate seat.  3:20pm- According to a report from CNN's Senior Legal Affairs Correspondent Paula Reid, the Justice Department was fully prepared to seek a warrant to search President Joe Biden's Wilmington, Delaware home had Biden's team not consented to a search. Reid emphasized that “there could be more searches.”  3:35pm- Speaking with the press on Wednesday, Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) explained that Congress should have access to the classified documents discovered at President Biden's home and UPenn office. Cotton argued that it's necessary to review the documents in order to properly assess whether they could have impacted national security. Cotton also said he would like to review the classified documents discovered at Mike Pence's Indiana home. The Executive branch has not yet granted bipartisan requests for access to the aforementioned documents.  3:45pm- Remember that time when Joe Biden plagiarized a speech initially delivered by former leader of Britain's Labour Party Neil Kinnock?  4:05pm- New York Times journalist & “1619 Project” author Nikole Hannah Jones will be paid an astounding $33,350 to deliver a one-hour lecture at Fairfax County Public Library—Northern Virginia taxpayers will pay the exorbitant speaker fee.  4:30pm- While appearing on Fox News, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo applauded Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy's decision to remove Rep. Sanchez baselessly accused DeSantis of forbidding the teaching of racism and slavery in public schools—critiquing the Governor's comprehension of American history. Ironically, Sanchez concludes his editorial by espousing the beliefs of historian Howard Zinn, a Marxist with a history of making unsubstantiated claims, and the Zinn Education Project—even revealing that he uses material from the Zinn Education Project in his lesson plans. Daniel J. Flynn of George Washington University documents Zinn's most outlandish history rewrites. For example, in “A People's History of the United States,” Zinn writes of America's founding: “certain important people in the English colonies made a discovery that would prove enormously useful for the next two hundred years. They found that by creating a nation, a symbol, a legal unity called the United States, they could take over land, profits, and political power.” Flynn notes Zinn completely rejects the idea America was founded on liberty and equality. Why is this being taught to kids in Philadelphia's public schools?  5:45pm- While delivering a speech on Thursday, President Joe Biden made a joke about people thinking he's “stupid” mere moments before forgetting the name of a Congressperson in attendance.  6:05pm- On Twitter, the Associated Press Stylebook recommended not using dehumanizing “the” labeling. The examples they provided: “the poor, the mentally ill, the French.” What? 6:10pm- Appearing on “The Midnight Miracle” podcast, comedian Dave Chappelle stated that his jokes don't incite violence—but people protesting his jokes frequently justify violence in order to get their way. 6:20pm- On Wednesday, the U.S. Senate held a hearing to determine if Live Nation Entertainment has become a monopoly. Musical artist Clyde Lawrence told Senators that Live Nation Entertainment controls the “promoter, venue, and ticketing company.”  6:30pm- President Biden's U.S. District Judge nominee Charnelle Marie Bjelkengren was unable to tell Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) what is discussed in Article II or V of the United States Constitution.  6:45pm- Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez repeatedly says she's in New York…while standing in front of the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C.

Later this morning, RNC members here at a five-star resort on the Pacific Ocean will pile into a private conference room and elect the organization's next chair after a weekslong, bitter campaign pitting incumbent Ronna McDaniel against top challenger Harmeet Dhillon. While McDaniel remains the favorite, Dhillon's team has been working overtime since they arrived, and there are unmistakable signs she's made headway. Just days ago, she had fewer than 30 of the 168 RNC members publicly endorsing her compared to more than 100 who had backed McDaniel in an open letter after the midterms. Authorities on Jan. 27 released police body camera footage showing Paul Pelosi being attacked in his home last October. The clip shows Pelosi and alleged assailant David DePape holding onto a hammer. An EU official said Russia has shifted the war to focus on NATO and the West, and now tanks must be sent to Ukraine to possibly save lives. McDaniel, the RNC chairwoman since 2017 and the niece of U.S. Sen. Mitt Romney, faces rebellion from those within former President Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" movement, including Trump attorney and RNC committeewoman Harmeet Dhillon, McDaniel's chief rival in her fight to be reelected. The GOP in states such as Nebraska and Washington have backed Dhillon in her attempt to unseat the incumbent, the Hill reported, while McDaniel has received support from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), a group of anti-abortion leaders, and more than 150 major GOP donors.
