Today on The Gist, examining how localized rescue stories capture public attention while mass crises are ignored. Then, University of Buffalo associate professor Holly Buck discusses her Jacobin essay, outlining why the AI data center moratorium proposed by Bernie Sanders and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez would hike compute prices for ordinary researchers, offshore environmental damage to weaker grids, and align progressives with anti-renewable coalitions. Finally, a commentary on a former DHS Secretary's remark about America losing the "power of its example," breaking down the history of political chiasmus and why the actual power of U.S. military and technological capacity has historically mattered more than moral reputation abroad. On today’s episode of The Scott Jennings Show, Scott broadcasts live from New York City as reports emerge that the U.S. and Iran may be nearing a framework agreement to end the conflict and curb Tehran’s nuclear ambitions, with K.T. McFarland joining to break down the proposed deal, the future of Project Freedom, and whether Iran can be trusted to negotiate in good faith. Scott also reacts to Trump-backed victories in Indiana primaries that reshaped the state GOP, with analysis from political strategist Pete Seat on what the results say about the president’s continued influence inside the party. The show covers FBI raids tied to a corruption probe in Virginia, fallout from the California gubernatorial debate over taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal immigrants, and rising antisemitic violence in the U.S. In Hour 2, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin joins for a major update on immigration enforcement, ICE operations, and TSA staffing concerns ahead of the World Cup, while Congressman Andy Barr discusses his newly endorsed Kentucky Senate campaign, Iran policy, and economic priorities. Scott wraps the show with a look at D.C. crime reporting controversies and America’s growing semiconductor investment boom with Lumentum CEO Michael Hurlston. https://www.joincrowdhealth.com See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In today's episode, David Keck dives into the chaotic "musical chairs" happening within the administration. We're breaking down the sudden exit of Kristi Noem from the DHS and her "exile" to the newly formed Shield of the Americas. Was it a promotion, or are they just hiding the baggage? We also get into the grit of the Eric Swalwell resignation. While the headlines scream about "justice," David pulls back the curtain on Markwayne Mullin's new role at the DHS. Is the department actually protecting the country, or has it become a taxpayer-funded "revenge squad" for political hits? From the "Nanny Trap" to the "Shame Floor" of modern politics, we're looking at the gap between what they say and what they actually do. Because if you only care about accountability when the other team is losing, you don't actually care about accountability. In this episode, we discuss:The Noem Pivot: Why the "Special Envoy" title is just a fancy way to say "Please stop embarrassing us."The Mullin Era: Why the DHS is treating a hiring mistake like a national security crisis. The "Shame Floor": Why Democrats push people out while the other side builds a fortress around their own.Accountability-ISH: A reality check on the political points system vs. actual justice for victims.#SurvivingPoliticsISH #kristinoem #ericswalwell #markwaynemullin #dhs #politicalaccountability #ShieldOfTheAmericas #DCScandals #politicaltheater Support the show

ICE at airports, a weeks-long shutdown, and why the DHS Secretary may not be in charge The Department of Homeland Security has been partially shut down for weeks. At the same time, ICE agents are showing up in airports, and Markwayne Mullin has just been confirmed as DHS Secretary. So what's actually going on—and who's really in charge? In this conversation, I'm joined by Andrea Flores, former DHS and White House official, attorney, and immigration policy expert, to break down the reality behind the headlines. We talk about why this leadership change may be more symbolic than substantive, how immigration enforcement is expanding in ways most people aren't noticing, and why this moment may be less about policy—and more about power. We also dig into what Democrats should be doing right now, what's at stake heading into the midterms, and why it's important to understand just how far outside the norm this moment really is. Today's Headlines: The DHS shutdown is now an explicit ransom situation. Trump won't reopen it — or pay TSA workers — until Democrats support the SAVE Act, his voter restriction bill that would ban most mail-in voting and require a passport or birth certificate to register. He rejected a bipartisan fix. He also voted by mail yesterday in a Florida special election his party lost. Steve Bannon called ICE agents at airports "a test run for the 2026 elections," which is the part you're supposed to notice. A California sheriff running for governor also seized 656,000 ballots from last year's redistricting election claiming fraud — officials say the actual discrepancy was 103 votes. Markwayne Mullin was confirmed as DHS Secretary 54-45, Rand Paul the only Republican no vote, Fetterman voting yes. Delta revoked all congressional airport perks until the shutdown ends — the lawmakers who created the TSA crisis now wait in the same lines. The NTSB investigator sent to the LaGuardia crash was stuck in a TSA line for hours getting there. On day 25 of the Iran war, Pakistan is emerging as the leading host for peace talks, with JD Vance as likely U.S. negotiator — because Iran refused to meet with Kushner and Witkoff, which tracks. The Times reported MBS has been privately urging Trump to intensify the war, calling it a "historic opportunity," and suggesting U.S. ground troops seize Iranian energy infrastructure. Trump confirmed it unprompted, calling MBS "a warrior." Meanwhile Kushner's firm Affinity Partners — backed almost entirely by Saudi, UAE, and Qatari sovereign wealth — grew from $3 billion to $6.2 billion since he left the White House, tracking his deepening foreign policy role almost perfectly. He also quietly reversed his pledge to stop fundraising. OpenAI shut down Sora six months after launch — downloads down 45%, a $1 billion Disney deal collapsed before any money changed hands. The official reason is "compute resources," which is what you say when your product turned out to be deeply unsettling and nobody wanted to keep using it. Two democrats vote with republicans to push Senator Markwayne Mullin across the DHS Secretary finish line. Rand Paul votes nay. Massachusetts' "millionaires tax" drove 41,000 people out of the state - and they took billions of dollars of income with them. The Supreme Court hints that a big blow is coming to 29 states and DC that allow mail-in voting "grace periods" for ballots to be counted. We flash back and remember the Arizona election debacle that was largely created by mass mail-in ballots.

In this episode of the Joe Concha Show, Joe mixes conservative politics, pop culture commentary, and plenty of Coldplay. Joe breaks down the Capitol Hill fireworks between Rand Paul and DHS Secretary nominee Markwayne Mullin, and exposes the Democrats' intense opposition to the SAVE Act's voter ID requirements. He also roasts the viral Coldplay "Kiss Cam" cheating scandal and the HR head's bizarre victim-narrative interview with Oprah. Plus, Joe tackles Donald Trump's staggering 100% MAGA approval rating, a shocking congressional hearing about taxpayer-funded rehab for criminal illegal aliens, and Kamala Harris being installed as a candidate without a single primary vote. Finally, Joe laments the death of late-night comedy by comparing Gavin Newsom's doom-and-gloom to Rodney Dangerfield's classic humor, applauds Trump for keeping military strategy regarding Iran from the press, laughs at Kathy Hochul begging the rich to stay in a weed-scented New York, and blasts France for refusing to help clear the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump's nominee to replace Kristi Noem as secretary of Homeland Security says he regrets comments he made about Alex Pretti after Pretti was fatally shot by federal agents in Minneapolis in January. In the immediate wake of that shooting, Oklahoma Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin had called Pretti a deranged individual who had come to cause, “max damage.” And a bill to ban non-disclosure agreements around proposed data centers passed a state senate committee yesterday with bipartisan support. Those stories and more in the evening update from MPR News. Hosted by Emily Reese. Music by Gary Meister.

VR25 - This episode is dedicated to the memory of Cricket, the 14-month-old wirehaired pointer murdered in cold blood by Kristi Noem on an unknown date in a gravel pit in South Dakota. One week after Donald Trump took now-former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem's job out to the gravel pit, Thomas, Lydia, and Matt get together for a post-mortem. After a brief amuse douche from Noem's (ahem) closest advisor, Matt plays the one excerpt from her 2024 campaign book “Not Going Back” which should have disqualified her from a Cabinet seat. (No, not that one! But we also revisit that story too and it's so much worse--and involves twice as many animals--than you may remember.) We then review some of the most notable lowlights of Noem's time as DHS Secretary, from completely failing to understand the ancient legal concept which allowed federal judges to release so many of the people she was illegally detaining without bond to her disturbing enthusiasm for calling US citizens concerned about killer ICE agents “domestic terrorists.” Also: why exactly did Noem lose her job last week, and where did the $220 million of our money handed over to a shell company run by her former press secretary's husband go? Finally, we take a closer look at Trump's choice to replace Noem at DHS: an Oklahoma Senator with two first names and a temper even shorter than his MMA career. 1. Iran’s Regional Escalation Iran launched missiles, drones, and attacks on multiple Middle Eastern countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan), pulling them into alignment with the U.S. and Israel. Commentary emphasizes Iran’s willingness to target anyone, showing “suicidal” or “homicidal” motives. Raises the danger of Iran possessing nuclear weapons. Discussion clarifies Trump’s position as opposing “forever wars,” not all military action. No expectation of U.S. ground troops in Iran. Military strikes are preemptive self‑defense due to Iran’s history of killing Americans. Critique of left‑wing politicians and activists who oppose U.S. involvement in Iran. Statement from Comrade Mamdani criticized as sympathetic to Iran’s regime. Contrast drawn between American leftist protesters and Iranian citizens protesting against the Ayatollah. The area may have been mined by Iran; shipping and air traffic are restricted. Mine‑sweeping operations expected before reopening. 2. DHS Leadership Shake‑Up Kristi Noem removed as DHS Secretary; replaced by Sen. Markwayne Mullin. Noem’s controversial $220M ad spending questioned in Senate Judiciary hearing—described as the catalyst for her removal. Senator John Kennedy’s cross‑examination highlighted as pivotal. Administration criticized for rhetoric after police-involved shootings in Minneapolis. Said to have contributed to Noem’s ousting. 3. Texas Election Outcomes Several candidates endorsed by the speaker (Cruz) won key primaries. Notable upset: Dan Crenshaw lost his House seat to Cruz‑backed Steve Toth. Personal conflict between Cruz and Crenshaw described, including a heated confrontation on a plane. Runoff between Sen. John Cornyn and Texas AG Ken Paxton. Both candidates are longtime allies of the speaker; race expected to be bruising and expensive. Trump expected to endorse but hasn’t yet. 4. Democratic Challenger – James Talarico Described as an “extreme but polished” candidate. Concerns raised about his ability to appear moderate while holding left‑wing positions. 1. U.S. Military Action & Objectives in Iran The U.S., alongside Israel, has conducted a major military campaign aimed at dismantling Iran’s military capabilities—missiles, drones, and leadership structure. Primary objective: Regime collapse, not a prolonged war. Trump administration views the Iranian regime as a 47‑year sponsor of terrorism and responsible for killing Americans. Intelligence suggested Iran was rapidly scaling missile and drone production, prompting immediate action. The Ayatollah and much of Iran’s security leadership were reportedly eliminated early in the conflict. 2. Nuclear & Terror Concerns Iran previously claimed it had enriched uranium sufficient for 11 nuclear bombs. U.S. officials believed Iran intended to develop and potentially use nuclear weapons. Iran has provided an estimated 90% of funding to Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis over decades. 3. Impact on China via Oil Disruption Iran historically sent 87% of its oil exports to China; Venezuela sent ~55%. U.S. actions against both nations’ regimes have significantly disrupted China’s energy supply chain. 4. Shake-Up at the Department of Homeland Security President Trump removed Christy Noem as DHS Secretary. Replacement: Sen. Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma. Noem faced backlash during Senate questioning—especially from Sen. John Kennedy—regarding: $220M in DHS-funded TV ads featuring her Possible improper contracting Claims that Trump approved the campaign (which he denied) Her testimony was viewed as damaging, contributing to her removal. 5. Texas Primary Elections Major developments in several key GOP races: Dan Crenshaw lost his House primary to Steve Toth, receiving criticism for confrontational behavior and losing touch with constituents. Multiple candidates endorsed by Sen. Ted Cruz won their primaries (Jessica Steinman, Chris Gober, John Bank). Texas Senate GOP runoff: John Cornyn vs. Ken Paxton—an expensive, bitter contest. Democratic nominee: James Talarico—portrayed as ideologically extreme but rhetorically moderate, making him a potentially formidable opponent. Please Hit Subscribe to this podcast Right Now. They unpack Trump's obsession with “winning,” the backlash building inside MAGA world, and why rising gas prices could quickly turn the political tide at home. Wolff argues the real key to understanding Trump may not be in the Pentagon or the intelligence briefings—but inside the mind of Jared Kushner, the one person he believes truly understands Trump's thinking and the potential Gulf money and postwar deals at stake. They also dive into the uneasy body language of figures like Marco Rubio and JD Vance, the confusion among world leaders, and the political stakes back home—from the Texas Senate battle to a stunning Kristi Noem hearing that may have been the final straw for Trump to fire her as DHS Secretary. Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Conflict Accelerates Tech Clay Travis and Buck Sexton discuss the geopolitical consequences of the ongoing conflict. They examine the paralysis of international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, rising global oil prices, and how extended military engagement could impact U.S. domestic politics—especially with Democrats preparing to tie gas‑price volatility to Trump’s foreign‑policy strategy ahead of the 2026 midterms. They also discuss the administration’s unprecedented stance that President Trump intends to influence the selection of Iran’s next leader following the assassination of the Ayatollah, raising questions about regime change, constitutional monarchy possibilities, and whether Iran’s military factions might accept a U.S.-favored successor. The hosts then explore historical parallels, comparing modern drone‑ and intelligence-driven warfare to conflicts such as the Gulf War and the 2003 Iraq invasion, suggesting that advances in technology have made “boots on the ground” less essential. This leads to a broader conversation about whether internal Iranian opposition could rise up without military backing and why genuine regime change is impossible unless parts of Iran’s armed forces defect. Trump's Texas Tactics Clay and Buck analyze the fallout from the Texas primary and the growing expectation that President Trump will endorse a candidate in the Texas Senate race. They emphasize how critical the Texas seat is to preserving the GOP’s narrow Senate majority and outline the broader 2026 Senate landscape—highlighting difficult Republican battles in Maine and North Carolina, as well as opportunities in Georgia. The hosts examine how a Trump endorsement, whether for John Cornyn or Ken Paxton, signals a deliberate effort to maintain Senate control ahead of potential Supreme Court vacancies. A major portion of the hour is devoted to the explosive controversy surrounding Democratic candidate James Talarico, whose far‑left ideological positions, past tweets, and public comments have become a focal point of criticism. Clay and Buck dissect his rhetoric comparing himself to biblical figures, his claims about “white skin” being a societal contagion, and his promotion of Dr. Fauci memorabilia—framing Talarico as a deeply out‑of‑touch progressive misaligned with Texas voters. They compare him to figures like Jasmine Crockett and Beto O’Rourke, arguing that Democrats continue to misjudge which candidates appeal to mainstream Texans. They also break down the Republican strategic calculus, suggesting that Trump may back Cornyn to avoid draining resources needed for more competitive races across the country. Kristi Noem is Fired President Trump has fired DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, marking the first removal of a cabinet secretary in this administration. Clay and Buck react in real time as Fox News reports the termination and the appointment of Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma as the new acting head of the Department of Homeland Security. They recount the scandals that contributed to Noem’s downfall—including reports of inappropriate spending, allegations about personal relationships, and a controversial $200 million DHS ad campaign featuring her—describing widespread bipartisan dissatisfaction after her congressional hearing. The hosts speculate on what the leadership change means for border security, immigration policy, and future DHS operations. Nerding Out with Ryan Political data analyst Ryan Girdusky, host of It’s a Numbers Game, to break down the dramatic firing of DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, who was removed just minutes before stepping onstage at an event in Nashville. The hosts analyze President Trump’s official announcement elevating Senator Markwayne Mullin of Oklahoma to DHS Secretary, noting that Noem’s reassignment to “Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas” signals a clear demotion. The hour digs into the controversies that precipitated her removal—especially the explosive $200 million DHS ad campaign featuring Noem, allegations that she misled Congress, and her attempt to shift blame to President Trump. Girdusky adds further context about long‑simmering internal frustrations over Noem’s self‑promotion, image‑driven leadership style, and political alliances, all of which contributed to her rapid downfall. The conversation then pivots to the 2026 Senate landscape, with a heavy focus on the Texas Senate race. Girdusky breaks down why the Trump team appears intent on securing Texas early, explaining that Republicans must lock down states like Texas, Ohio, Iowa, Alaska, and Montana to maintain Senate control. He critiques Ken Paxton’s underwhelming primary performance and praises John Cornyn’s unexpectedly strong showing, attributing it to disciplined campaigning. The hosts revisit the Democratic nominee James Talarico, highlighting the avalanche of far‑left statements and viral clips that portray him as deeply out of step with Texas voters—comments about abolishing prisons, describing “whiteness” as a moral failing, redefining Christianity through progressive ideology, and advocating extreme abortion policies. Clay, Buck, and Girdusky conclude that Talarico is even more radical than Jasmine Crockett, predicting he will crater in a statewide general election. They emphasize that Democrats are misreading Texas by nominating a candidate shaped by progressive online culture rather than real‑world Texas sensibilities.
