With Tom Homan taking over ICE leadership on-site in Minneapolis, Kristi Noem finds some of her authority as DHS Secretary being effectively curtailed. But is this change enough of a move to recover lost public confidence after ICE-related killings and divisive MAGA rhetoric? And how will this impact federal funding bills in the face of an upcoming shutdown deadline? Hear more on these and other headlines with the Erick Erickson Show from noon to 3pm today!
The clock is ticking for the Senate to align with the House on government funding ahead of a week end shutdown deadline. Democrat demands to separate DHS funding into a separate bill may be the hangup that prevents at least one funding bill from passing in time. In related news, Sen. Fetterman (D-PA) has joined the ranks calling for the removal or resignation of Kristi Noem as DHS Secretary -- while not on board for impeachment, he's the latest and loudest to raise concerns about her leadership in light of multiple recent ICE-related shootings.
This week on Face the Nation, tensions continue to boil over in Minneapolis while the president's pursuit of Greenland prompts backlash from allies here and in Europe. Despite temperatures in the low teens, protestors in support of and in opposition to ICE, as well as agents themselves, took to the streets of Minneapolis again Saturday, as the divide between local officials and federal ones got even wider. Plus, America's views of President Trump's immigration policies erode as he hits the one year in office mark. We'll talk exclusively with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and the Mayor of Minneapolis Jacob Frey. Then, with the volatile situation in Iran defused for the moment, President Trump turns to his next international target, Greenland. As U.S. officials tried to calm European allies about his plans, Mr. Trump announced new tariffs on some NATO members if they don't support a deal for the "complete and total purchase of Greenland." The top Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee Mark Warner and the head of a bipartisan Congressional group supporting NATO, Republican Mike Turner, will both be here. The Federal Emergency Management Agency is at the center of new calls to replace Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. In a letter to President Donald Trump on Wednesday, 14 House Democrats say Trump should fire Noem over what they say are damaging cuts to FEMA's workforce. They also say Noem's policy of signing off on all spending over $100,000 is slowing down FEMA's disaster response efforts. The letter comes a day after more than 50 House Dems filed articles of impeachment against Noem citing her handling of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown. We're eleven days into 2026, and America is speedrunning authoritarianism. On January 8th, ICE agent Jonathan Ross executed Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. She was unarmed and trying to drive away when he shot her three times at point blank range, called her a "fucking bitch" as she died, then walked away while his colleagues prevented a doctor from rendering aid. Within minutes, before anyone knew her name, the President and DHS Secretary labeled her a "domestic terrorist" and declared the shooting justified. No investigation. No accountability. Just character assassination and claims of "absolute immunity."This isn't isolated. Over 2,000 masked federal agents with no badges or identification have descended on Minneapolis, racially profiling and detaining U.S. citizens. The same day Renee was killed, ICE arrested two teenage American citizens for working at Target while Latino. This is fascism in practice. But the chaos doesn't stop at our borders. Trump is threatening to annex Greenland by force, potentially ending the NATO alliance. The administration is simultaneously threatening Venezuela, cutting deals with Cuba, and rattling sabers at Iran as nationwide protests threaten the regime. Are we heading into World War III? Maybe. The tinderbox is built. In this episode, we break down the execution of Renee Nicole Good, expert analysis from a veteran defense attorney who says this shooting was unjustified, Trump's imperial ambitions in Greenland, Iran's revolution, Cuba's crisis, Venezuela's chaos, the criminal investigation into Jerome Powell, and the U Haul attack on Iranian protesters in Los Angeles. This isn't hyperbole. This is happening right now, eleven days into the second Trump administration.Renee Nicole Good's life mattered. Her death wasn't a tragedy. A lot of ground covered today ... Ron opens with the political jolt in Sandy Springs, where Democratic State Rep. Esther Panitch crossed party lines to endorse former Georgia GOP chair and incumbent mayor Rusty Paul. Ron speaks directly with mayoral candidate Dontaye Carter, who outlines why the endorsement misrepresents his record, inflames racial dog whistles, and reflects deeper issues of elitism and accountability inside Democratic circles. Carter also details his platform on affordability, representation, and the demographic challenges facing Sandy Springs as it heads into a pivotal runoff.Next, Ron turns to an in-depth interview with Dr. Daniel Canso of the Georgia Budget and Policy Institute, who explains why eliminating Georgia's state income tax would shift billions in costs onto working families while delivering disproportionate benefits to the wealthy. His breakdown of sales tax expansion, regressivity, and long-term budget impacts offers essential clarity for voters.Ron then examines Donald Trump's latest outburst — a call to punish Democratic lawmakers for reminding military members of their duty to refuse illegal orders — and digs in on who the target audience for the Democrats' video was and how the Trump administration is already giving illegal orders by blurring National Guard call-up titles. How about an evidence-based look at immigration data, for once? Ron dives in after Rep. Buddy Carter's letter to DHS Secretary "cosplay" Kristi Noem calling for ICE agents to invade metro Atlanta. Ron theorizes he was "triggered" by a report earlier this week that showed Georgia is 6th in the U.S. in terms of undocumented immigrant population. May work in the primary, but Georgians overwhelmingly oppose mass deportations. Finally, author Dennis Brennan joins the show to discuss his new book drawing historical parallels between Aaron Burr and Donald Trump, offering a fascinating lens on political power, perception, and mythmaking.Tune in to catch the Ron Show weekdays from 4-6pm Eastern time on Georgia NOW! When President Trump deployed the military to Los Angeles in June, former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano called it an “abuse of presidential power.” Napolitano, who is also the former governor of Arizona, told MSNBC that to federalize the national guard over California Governor Gavin Newsom's objections was “simply outrageous.” During Napolitano's time at DHS, she beefed up border security and increased deportations while also spearheading the creation of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) initiative. Now director of the new Institute for Security and Governance at UC Berkeley, Napolitano joins Commonwealth Club World Affairs to talk about the current administration's border crackdown, criticism of ICE tactics, and what it all means for immigration policy, civil liberties and the economy.
