The quiet races decide so much. This GOP primary for North Carolina's Court of Appeals Seat 1 asks a sharp question: what kind of experience best prepares a judge to review the law—meticulous appellate-ready opinions or years of trial-tested judgment? We walk through the ballot basics, then dig into two distinct judicial résumés. Administrative Law Judge Michael C. Byrne spotlights nearly 400 written decisions, nine unanimously affirmed on appeal, and a long track record representing law enforcement and public employees. He leans on major endorsements from the NC Fraternal Order of Police, the NC Police Benevolent Association, and NAPO, and cites key employment and Certificate of Need cases to show depth in complex, highly regulated disputes. His core message: get it right, protect due process, apply the law rather than make it, and write opinions that stand up on review.Superior Court Judge Matt Smith brings breadth from the trial bench: almost two decades as a trial lawyer, service on the district court, and now presiding in superior courts across 15 counties. He argues that most of the Court of Appeals' workload mirrors what he sees daily, and he stakes his candidacy on a constitutional conservative approach—text first, precedent for stability, and narrow rulings that avoid activism. His questionnaire responses track a disciplined method: honor legislative presumptions of constitutionality, respect burdens of proof, and keep personal views out of outcomes. If this helped you prepare for early voting, share it with a friend, subscribe for more NC election deep dives, and leave a quick review so others can find the show. Indukcijske kuhalne plošče z vgrajeno napo so v zadnjih letih postale ena najopaznejših novosti v sodobnih kuhinjah.

Join Dan Carrigan as he speaks with Napoleon “Napo” Rumteen, a proven leader at the intersection of automotive retail, SaaS, and talent innovation. Napo, the Founder and CEO of Interactive EQ, explains how his platform uses AI to measure intangible skills and improve hiring and retention in high-turnover roles like sales and service advisors. In this interview, Napo shares his perspective on why focusing on employee development and getting ahead of problems is crucial for profitability. He discusses how a first-of-its-kind platform provides insights into a candidate's judgment, resilience, and empathy—the skills that drive 85% of job success. Napo also explains why leaders should use AI as an enablement tool to augment their teams and handle tedious tasks, freeing up people to focus on critical thinking and relationships. He provides a look into the real-world workflow of an AI-enabled talent assessment and how to navigate change management to ensure successful adoption across dealerships of all sizes. Napo draws on over 30 years of experience, including key roles at Tekion and automotiveMastermind, to provide a fresh, expert take on leveraging AI to build a stronger, more efficient team. He argues that AI is not meant to replace humans but to elevate the human element in a people-centric business.

The statement, which compared President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's performance to that of other former heads of state, sparked heated discussions across the nation. Dr. Prempeh in a statement issued today (July 12, 2024) clarified that his remarks were purely his personal opinion and not an official stance of the NPP. He said he never intended to disrespect Ghana's first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, or any other former leader. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ksspod/support

In this conversation we talk to Santi Elijah Holley about his recently published book An Amerikan Family: The Shakurs and the Nation They Created. A history of the political family that included Tupac, Assata, Afeni, Dr. Mutulu, Salahdeen, Lumumba, Zayd and many others. What does it mean to take the name Shakur? What were some of the key relationships and sites of politicization for these folks? Holley's book gets into many of these questions, and examines the radical organizing and political activity of many of the Shakurs and of their comrades like Sekou Odinga and Bilal Sunni-Ali. There are aspects of this book we appreciated as there's a lot of important history here that gets brought into one place. These figures are often looked at in isolation, in a depoliticized context, as icons or simulacra. In other places we read about them as individual figures in histories of formations like the Black Panther Party or the Republic of New Afrika. So we appreciated seeing them discussed in relation to one another and some of the events and people who shaped their political development. As you will see in this discussion both Josh and I also have our criticisms of this book and how it presents this history. As usual, we do not debate with the author here, but we do ask multiple critical questions about aspects of the book that we felt either did not do justice to the legacy of people being examined or do not help people see the New Afrikan Independence Movement as a living struggle that people still engage today in a variety of ways in various organizations. As always, we welcome further dialogue on that from folks who are involved in those movements if they wish to engage with us. We will also link some of our other discussions about that history and with people who struggle in the tradition of New Afrikan independence today. Most importantly today we want to uplift Baba Sekou Odinga who features prominently in this book, and prominently in the history of Black Liberation struggle in this country. He was recently hospitalized and has been released to a rehabilitation facility, but he needs our support. We are not going to plug our patreon this episode and instead ask that folks contribute to this fund for Immediate Relief Support for Sekou Odinga Other related links: Sekou Odinga episode Jamal Joseph episode Claude Marks episode Dhoruba bin Wahad episode Jalil Muntaqim episodes 1, 2 Thandisizwe Chimurenga and Yusef “Bunchy” Shakur on Sanyika Shakur Kamau Franklin and Kali Akuno Kamau Franklin on Liberated Zones Theory Stop Cop City discussions: 1 & 2 Free The Land!
