Rudy Huyn est un expert Windows Phone mais avant tout un passionné de la plateforme mobile de Microsoft. Il vient de fonder 6Studio, société spécialisée dans le développement windows phone avec notamment à son actif plus de 7 millions de téléchargements. Cet ingénieur Rennais, créateur de l’application  TVShow, a gagné en 2013 le concours  Lumia Geek 8-Week Challenge. Il est le fondateur de la communauté francophone des développeurs windows phone, groupe de plus de 2000 personnes qui partagent astuces techniques et permet l'entraide entre développeurs. While at the Phoenix stop of the .NET Rocks! Visual Studio 2012 Launch Road Trip, Carl and Richard talked to Shawn Wildermuth about his experiences with PhoneGap. The conversation starts out with a recap of his experiences around developing mobile and tablet applications on iOS, Android as well as WP7, WP8 and Windows 8. Shawn digs into the particulars about building common-source-code projects with GitHub and Adobe's PhoneGap-As-A-Service. He also discusses start-up strategies using PhoneGap as well as native development.

TouchDevelop is a novel, touch-first IDE originally written as a Windows Phone 7 app using C# and XAML. TouchDevelop lets you create WP7, Win8 and Web-apps directly on your phone, tablet, or desktop. Trying to build the JavaScript version, both for Win8 and the Web, we were frustrated by the complete lack of compile-time checking. We thus got very excited to be one of the very early adopters of TypeScript, a typed superset of JavaScript that compiles to idiomatic JavaScript.

We also talk about the new experimental build shipping model. Much of the time is spent talking about the portable libraries architecture for Rx for Windows 8, .NET 4.5, WP7/7.5 and beyond. This includes primitives to synchronize with the Windows XAML CoreDispatcher and interop with WinRT events and IAsync* objects. Support for Portable Class Library projects, allowing code reuse across ".NET Framework 4.5" and ".NET Framework 4.5 for Windows Store apps" projects. We're planning on adding Windows Phone 8 support to this going forward. Integration with the new C# 5.0 and VB 11 "async" and "await" features. In Rx v2.0, you can await an observable sequence, allowing one to apply the power of Rx to the new asynchronous programming model. Enormous performance improvements, with a 4x speedup of the query pipeline, vastly reduced object allocation rates, massively increased throughput of schedulers, and much more. An improved error handling strategy, enabling higher resiliency and proper resource cleanup for queries in the face of user errors at various levels. Thorough revisit of the way we deal with time, to improve efficiency and predictability. This includes better support for periodic timers, improvements to absolute time scheduling, etc. Various new and improved query operators.

Jeff Wilcox is a developer on the Silverlight team. He spends a lot of his time (~80%) coding in C++. Strange? Of course not... The department has synced its search engine with several smart phone applications to allow users the ability to pull up a restaurant or facility's inspection reports and violations instantly. Does your local health agency have these types of services? Let us know. 2. Techie Hotels When we think tech in hotels, we think about flat screen TVs, high speed Internet access, touch screen slot machines, and iPod docking stations. Steve had a new experience with a hotel in Laughlin, NV. A hotel key controlled the lights and electricity of the hotel room, turning the lights on and off as you enter and exit the room. Not only is this a subtle way of integrating tech but also a way of caring for Mother Nature. 3.iTunes 12 days of Christmas On the 12th Day of Christmas, Steve Jobs sent to me....12 free downloads! Between December 26 and January 6, Apple is offering iTunes users free books, apps, songs, movies, and TV episodes. Apple is releasing a special app for the occasion, iTunes 12 Days of Christmas. Users will be alerted when new items are added to the freebie list. Look for it soon. 4.  Times Magazine Person of the Year - Mark Zuckerberg The Waves crew has some very mixed opinions on Mark Zuckerberg being named the “Person of the Year” by Times. The award does not sit well with Steve and Dave, arguing that the success of Facebook is user based and there are more worthy persons deserving. Mikee argues that Zuckerberg has created a platform unlike anything else, connecting 300+ million people. 5.  Roku player software version 2.9 b1509 now available Get it. It's a great one! 6. Microsoft planning to unveil Verizon and Sprint Windows Phone 7 devices at CES Microsoft plans on announcing that WP7 will be available on the Verizon and Sprint networks. Mikee provides a good analysis of the Microsoft move and talks about his recent WP7 purchase....for one cent!

Chris I spoke to you last year regarding HTC Hero, I still have it for another year, the upgrade on Andriod OS was a much needed update when I finally got it, but sadly it has dramatically slowly the phone down and can no longer cope well with many askings of it.
