21st Century Sailor Office encourages Sailors to support their shipmates everyday.
Congratulations are in order for all of our newly promoted Shipmates! Since this is the episode before Thanksgiving that won't be heard until after, the guys and Tish discuss thanksgiving plans that will be memories by the time you hear this. What would it take for you to eat thanksgiving dinner on your ship if you're not on duty or a member of the Triad? Shout out to the duty sections holding it down and standing the watch during the holidays. Should single Sailors stand duty on Christmas to let their shipmates with children have the day with their families? How much would a “drug deal” like that cost though? With the release of NAVADMIN 277/23, the suspension of high-year tenure is now indefinite. Damo addresses UH Barracks residents stealing from unmanned NEX Micro Mart self check out machines. Somehow this turns into a DRB conversation. The trio discusses President Biden's recent visit to Norfolk Naval Base. The Navy has been doing a lot better with respecting people's time while on leave. However, what are some of the reasons why you would want to be bothered while on leave? Is the Safety and Occupational Health manual being phased out? The Navy seeks to raise the allowable limits of accidental whale collisions. The Army is trying to get the people that they kicked out due to refusing the COVID vaccine back. They ain't coming back y'all. Do Better: Damon - People claiming that veterans will no longer receive a pension because of BRS. Damo - Meta trying to force the Threads app on us. The guys get into the things they are thankful for. Tish reflects on what she appreciates. Damo asks Tish to stand on statements that she made in the last episode. The team discusses getting leadership getting Sailors accolades for their own satisfaction and bragging rights. What's the hardest trait to work against when it comes to mentorship and development. These and more topics are covered in this episode. Remember to follow the ‘Permission to Speak Freely' podcast on TikTok, Facebook, Discord, Instagram, Twitter, and subscribe on YouTube. If you're paying attention, you can find examples of leadership skills almost anywhere in life. From playing football to working in a corporate environment, good leaders stand out and inspire those around them to follow their lead. What makes a good leader? What skills do they have that make them someone worthy of looking up to? One fundamental characteristic is that they know how to make decisions and move forward without regret. In this episode of The Customer Service Revolution, John welcomes Admiral Thomas Lynch to talk about what he learned during his time in the Navy about leadership as well as his time on the football field. After a decorated 32-year career in the Navy, Admiral Lynch retired to work in the private sector as a senior-level executive for multiple large corporations. He also serves as Co-Chairman of the NewDay USA Foundation. Admiral Lynch's extensive experience both in the military and Corporate America gives him a unique perspective on leadership and what creates a great leader. You don't want to miss his advice for people who want to become leaders both at work and at home. Here are just a few takeaways: Admiral Lynch's background as a career Naval officer, football player, and in corporate America The impact of the Navy on his life and what “shipmate self” means What NewDay USA is and Admiral Lynch's involvement with it His relationship with Roger Staubach and what made Roger an excellent example of leadership How leaders can be trained to have an army of employees who will do whatever it takes to help reach their goal Applying ship, shipmate, and self to your family Admiral Lynch's advice for people who want to become more selfless Resources mentioned: www.thedijuliusgroup.com thedijuliusgroup.com/the-customer-service-revolution-podcast customerservicerevolution.com thedijuliusgroup.com/project/cx-executive-academy thedijuliusgroup.com/project/cx-executive-academy-online Follow and Review: We'd love for you to follow us if you haven't yet. "I fear brain drain. If you aren't optimistic about your country in the long term and want to move somewhere else, it creates a net outflow of talent that makes it hard for the ecosystem to build. There are very few countries in the world that actually have a net outflow. To have it continuously for so many years, especially when there's no war or push factor, is quite an interesting dynamic. This drives the FinTech sector. There's a self-perpetuating cycle here, where nobody wants to upset this flow. But from a tech ecosystem standpoint, there's so much more to build in the Philippines." - Jeremy Au "I see a lot of my founders asking for support specifically for product manager and growth lead talents. We lack that a little bit because tech giants are all regional. So a lot of the positions are actually Singapore-based compared to being Manila-based, which is a bit of a lacking cohort of product managers and senior growth lead talents that some of our startups need, especially at Series B stages. I think that's the biggest gap." - Mark Sng In this episode of the BRAVE, Jeremy Au, Mark Sng, and Shiyan Koh discussed the Philippines' current state and potential in terms of technology and startups. The conversation revolved around the country's young population, its highly skilled and English-speaking workforce, and its growing FinTech sector. The hosts also talked about the challenges faced by the Philippines, such as brain drain due to the lack of optimism about the country's long-term prospects. They also noted the fragmented nature of the country, with numerous islands and logistical challenges, as well as the effects of inflation on the economy. Despite these challenges, the hosts expressed optimism about the Philippines' potential for growth and innovation, citing the strong alumni networks of companies such as Rocket Internet and the country's openness to foreign businesses. The hosts also highlighted various startups in the country, such as Locad, which offers software-driven, flexible solutions to e-commerce fulfillment and logistics, and Shipmates, a courier platform for e-commerce. They also mentioned the Philippines' burgeoning improv comedy scene, which speaks to the country's openness to new ideas and cultural influences. Overall, the hosts concluded that while the Philippines faces significant challenges, such as brain drain and logistical obstacles, it has the potential to be a major player in the global startup ecosystem, thanks to its young population, skilled workforce, and openness to innovation. Pelayo and I met while sailing and working on the world's largest Viking ship the "Draken". Pelayo is an incredibly intelligent, funny and talented human being, and I am sure the joy we had in getting caught up came out in our conversation. Our chat took us from our meeting in Norway, to the time he survived a demasting aboard the Draken, to fun times on the Hawaiian Chieftain when we sailed together on the west coast of the US. Ever the character and oh so dashing, Pelayo is a very good example of a delightful old shipmate. Jamie was featured in the "Valentines Day Special" (Episode 17), where he got poked fun of quite a bit and took it very well. In this episode we get into Jamie's unique upbringing sailing around the world on a "catamaran" (Actually, technically a "double canoe"). We also get into our experiences on the viking ship the Sea Stallion, and some of the fun and craziness that ensued there. You will probably notice that Jamie and I are two very different people with differing opinions and world views, and yet we are very comfortable in each others presence and able to poke fun at each other in a good-humored way. Ours is a bond that was born of a 6 week journey from Ireland to Denmark on a viking ship, and it transcends such trivial differences. Preston is one of my closest and funniest old shipmates and in this interview we go deep. Here is some of what is semi-soberly discussed: wooden boats having more of a spirit than boats made from other materials, the time I was hitchhiking in Japan and briefly became part of a Shinto Priest group, lots of boat maintenance lessons (pro-tip... the only thing worse than painting yourself into a corner is painting yourself into the headrig!), and how Preston used nautical knowledge to keep himself safe when going through the worst part of Oakland at 3:00 in the morning. Also, here is a link to Preston's Disneyland Train Simulator Video Game he made which we mention in the episode... https://ckhollidayplans.com/ Intro/Ending Music: Many thanks to Riggy Rackin for allowing the use of music from his Nauticas album. This interview shows the positive effects old shipmates can unknowingly have in each other's lives. In this interview Ethan learns that he was directly responsible for the place and manner in which I proposed to my now wife. And I learn that his time on tallships with me directly influenced his decision and ability to work and live in Antarctica. This interview is loaded with detailed talk and descriptions of boat handling for docking, funny crew stories, as well as my favorite puke story, my worst accident as captain (which luckily wasn't that bad and turned out to be the best thing ever in the long run), storms and rouge waves, Japanese Tsunami wreckage on the US West Coast and much much more!! Welcome to Bible Fiber where we are encountering the textures and shades of the prophetic tapestry in a year-long study of the twelve minor prophets, one prophet each month. I am Shelley Neese, president of The Jerusalem Connection, a Christian organization devoted to sharing the story of the people of Israel, both ancient and modern. This week we are studying the second chapter of Jonah. Chapter 2 interrupts the narrative progress of the book with a three-stanza poem delivered by an undigested Jonah from inside the belly of the whale, making the book three-fourths prose and one-fourth poem. The most historically famous sermon on Jonah's prayer from the whale was delivered by the fictional character, Father Mapple, in chapter nine of Moby Dick. Moby Dick by Herman Melville is the story of Captain Ahab's revenge on a white whale. Before Ahab sets out on his risky whaling mission, one of his sailors attends a church service with Father Mapple who preaches from a lectern in the shape of a ship's prow. The former whaler turned preacher naturally was keen on the book of Jonah and the “weighty lesson” derived from Jonah's supplication. Hear this excerpt from Father Mapple's sermon: For sinful as he is, Jonah does not weep and wail for direct deliverance. He feels that his dreadful punishment is just. He leaves all his deliverance to God, contenting himself with this, that spite of all his pains and pangs, he will still look towards His holy temple. And here, shipmates, is true and faithful repentance, not clamorous for pardon, but grateful for punishment. And how pleasing to God was this conduct in Jonah, is shown in the eventual deliverance of him from the sea and the whale. Shipmates, I do not place Jonah before you to be copied for his sin but I do place him before you as a model for repentance. Sin not; but if you do, take heed to repent of it like Jonah.By many accounts, Moby Dick was Melville's retelling of the Book of Jonah, and an articulation of his own theological grappling with the attributes of God. Melville grew up in a family where his mother's relatives were staunch Calvinists and his father's relatives were liberal Unitarians. Melville had to reconcile God's abundant mercy with His divine wrath. Jonah is the prophetic book that best gives human voice to the struggle over the mystery of God's nature, His Will, and His system of justice.
Steve was at my side in the worst seas I have ever been in! We talk about this and what was one of the wildest times I ever had on tallships. It wasn't just the seas, but also the colorful cast of characters on the ship! There are many funny stories, nerve-wracking moments, exploding inter-personal drama, and numerous sailor and seamanship lessons learned (often in the sense of "Don't do this!") which helped me when I later became a captain. Despite everything, both Steve and I agree, we would do it all again in a heartbeat! Intro/Ending Music: Many thanks to Riggy Rackin for allowing the use of music from his Nauticas album. Everything from the most embarrassing (and in hind-sight hilarious) day in West Coast tallship history, to the most epic seasickness sail ever, to having a woman die in my arms. This our 40th and 1 Year Anniversary. Jamie and Lawrence chat about their highlights, listen to some old interview clips and take some questions from the TTRPG Community. Lawrence and Jamie would like to thank everyone who has listened so far and supported us through this amazing year. Huge thanks for the guests who gave up their time for us, Nick and Kat from Arclands, Harper and Darby from Chaotic Creations, Mike Hibbert and all the Shipmates from Roll Britannia, Chip, Paul, Alex, Tom and James the DM. Here is to another year and roll well my friends.
An unlikely friendship formed between Johnna and I while stationed in Great Lakes, IL. Though we spoke often before I got out of the military, I never really knew her whole story prior to her arrival at my duty station. And I didn't know what horrible events were to take take place after I discharged. In this episode I learn all about the harassment she endured beginning at MEPS. I learn about trials she faced in Hawaii and what caused her to decided to leave the Navy. I also discover how her transition out lead her to becoming a life coach. This is a big episode and it was an amazing, authentic conversation with a friend that I have had for nearly 25 years. If you're listening to this Podcast now... THANK YOU! But IF you want to see my shows LIVE... be sure to head over to my YouTube Channel! www.youtube.com/c/captainjackrackemlevyIt's THURSDAY NIGHT... and it's always a pleasure talking SPORTS with my Shipmates here. Off the Top of my head, it was surprising to hear the Angels parted ways with the Great (and Future HOFer) Albert Pujols, who was batting .198 this year .... and popped out in his LAST AT BAT in the Majors...Or WAS IT? Does Albert Catch on with another team? Does YOUR TEAM need a DH/Extra Bat? Does he go back to Tony LaRussa in Chicago or back with the Cards in St Louis? Or does he just retire a bit early.... after all he IS GETTING PAID THIS YEAR... It's ALWAAAAAYS a Great Night to talk FOOTBALL... and BASEBALL... and yes, the Stanley Cup Playoffs start NEXT WEEK Wednesday May 12th! And Happy 90th Birthday to Willie "SAY HEY" Mays... after we just lost THE GREATEST (in my mind) Baseball Player in "Hammerin' Hank" Aaron a short while ago...You wanna talk Basketball? suuuuuuuuuuuuuure we can do that too!But Remember .... You Don't Know JACK About Sports!... unless you watch the show.
Good Day and Night everyone... We're pushing back from the table like Americans do at Thanksgiving, having gorged ourselves with stats, video, interviews, chat groups for your team, and endless nannering about how great THIS pick was... or WHY T.F. did they pick THAT guy when they could've had him in the next round (sound familiar anyone?) Listen... unless you have spent the last 7months immersed in a film room going over countless video from EVERY draft eligible participant for this past draft... ok Jason Dean Hunter, you're ALMOST excused as you're the closest I know... then I don't give a FLYING FOXTROT what you think about YOUR Team's draft class! Even Raiders' GM Mike Mayock put out words to that affect when speaking to the NFL Network's Pete Schrager following up on what the Raiders did the last few days... YOU TELL 'IM MIKE!! It usually takes at least three years to get a 'feel' for how your team did for a particular draft, so using that as a standard, we can go back to the draft of 2018 or earlier and give true draft grades. For Raider fans (they'll be my example) only first rounder Tackle Kolten Miller (STARTER SINCE DAY ONE), OL Brandon Parker (why does he still have a job?) and Marcel Ateman (bounced around from Practice Squad to Roster these last three years) remains.... so yeah, THAT DRAFT Aside from Miller SUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKED. Let's talk about the Draft for YOUR TEAM... and anything else you want to .... "ASK CAPTAIN JACK"... AND ANNOUNCING OUR "MOST VALUABLE CREWMATE" for Tonight's Show... for FLAWLESS ANALYSIS... Jason Dean Hunter!! Thank you Shipmate!!
The Pirates determine and try to finalize the 10 Intentions of living the Pirate Life. As they evaluate and combine, they realize they may need assistance figuring out the final intention...can YOU help?
Be sure to SUBSCRIBE to my YouTube Channel - www.youtube.com/c/captainjackrackemlevy - and WATCH ON MY YOUTUBE or at the very least North East Streaming Sports on YouTube or Facebook. Spring Training... HOOOOORAAAAAY. Everyone is still mathematically eligible to make the PLAYOFFS!! We made mention of the Phillies, Yankees and Rays tonight... but still don't know who won. Oh well. Basketball just started its second half... running through early May after the All-Star Game this past Sunday. Did you watch it? Apparently none of our viewers OTHER THAN BlackBeard... who commented all the way from the UK!! Now THAT'S surprising... and thanks for watching our show Shipmate. Hockey also runs through early May and then Playoffs start for both sports... and a good portion of our show tonight touched on the Flyers, Islanders, Lightning and Penguins. Of course being 6 weeks away from the NFL Draft... and with Free Agency heating up, Pigskin talk was rendered with the Raiders, Iggles and the Rams mentioned. Watch and/or listen to our show... DEFINITELY... Let's talk about it!!

"For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it?" - Luke 14:28 Today we wanted to do a bit of reflection on how the year went and how we were intentional about our growth in 2020. This was a year of self improvement, which in turn made others better, and our team better. We intentionally focused internally on bettering ourselves through education, time management, our relationships, and the activities we felt to be important. In this episode we dive into how we focused on Self, Shipmate, and Ship and how that will help us plan for 2021. Ahoy there, Shipmates! Join us for a lockdown live episode special of 'A Touch of Glass' PLEASE NOTE - Due to lockdown, this episode was recorded using Microsoft Teams so the audio quality isn't as high as in previous episodes. "Returning from an auction, the Trotters stop to help a woman whose car appears to have broken down. It is revealed that she is Lady Ridgemere, wife of Lord Ridgemere who owns the Ridgemere Hall Estate. Having towed the Lady to her stately home, Del overhears that Lord Ridgemere is having trouble with the firm he's hired to clean their chandelier. He wastes no time in offering the Trotters' services as chandelier cleaners for a mere £350. Rodney and Del are up ladders, holding an old sheet to stop a cut-glass chandelier crashing to the floor when Grandad unscrews it. But Grandad actually unscrews the second chandelier, which falls and smashes on the floor. As a horrified butler walks into the hall, the Trotters make a swift exit."

Welcome to Dussé and Backwoods, the bougie ebonics podcast. I'm your host TUNDEEEEEE!! Aka Chocolate Papí aka TunGotJokes Twitter/IG/FB: @Tungotjokes www.actritelosangeles.com Sponsored by: High Tide Tours LA @hightidetoursla In this episode, we sit down with Rapper, Producer, and Westside of Chicago native Kid Breeze (@theactualbreeze). We start off our discussion with finding out that Breeze began rapping at 13 years old, but didn't actually start releasing music until he was 18 yrs old going into his first year of college. Breeze would attend SIUC (along with Tunde and Vic) and he tells us about how he became apart of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He elaborates the importance of getting apart of prestigious organization and transitioning from the streets the being more professional and organized. We then talk about going how him and his production group which is called "The Shipmates", moved out to Atlanta and producing beats for other artists. Unfortunately ATL wasn't the area for Breeze and his partner, due to the different environment and not being the city vibe that he was used to, so moved back to Chicago because he felt he never utilized all of his resources in Chicago first. He discussed how producers and musicians make money and how it can be a misunderstanding due to technicalities. Out of nowhere we find out that Breeze used to be a athlete, and that he played basketball growing up but unfortunately found himself loosing $100 in a one on one game. This lend into Our favorite segment of DAB! Marry One, F*** One, Kill One, and this week's theme is Professional Athletes. This week on Shipmates, we analyze the iconic 90's couple Cory and Topanga from Boy Meets World. We also talk about giving birth, choosing to love, and how Topanga is the most mature 11 year old on the face of the planet.
This time the Squids sit down with former Shipmate and Good Conduct Medal holder Chad Bell. The fellas discuss guns, maple syrup and the fun of living in a trailer park in Mississippi….could there actually be a place worse than Macon, Georgia? Mike is actually less surly in this episode than he’s even been, while Jeff and Glen seem to have a case of the prepubescent giggles. I wonder if Lyme Disease has anything to do with that? Anyway, they also compare notes on liberty in the Philippines. Sit back, close your eyes and imagine a beach with white sand and cold beer….Support the show (http://facebook.com/threeoldsquids)

If you have only started to think about the budget problems this year, you are late to the game Shipmate. We are years in to it, and almost 2-yrs ago, as many were sobering up to the fact that the military was about to face a budget challenge not seen in a generation. Robert Killebrew, USA (Ret.)., using his article in the DEC 2011 Armed Forces Journal, Cutbacks & Crisis, as a starting point. In addition to being a contributing editor at AFJ, among the many other things he had done at the time of the interview and since retirement, was writing and consulting on national defense issues as a Senior Fellow at the Center for a New American Security. Prior to his retirement from active duty he served for thirty years in a variety of Special Forces, infantry and staff duties. His assignments ranged included duty in Vietnam with MACVSOG, the Vietnamese Airborne Division, command in mechanized, air assault and airborne units, and staff positions in the Rapid Deployment Joint Task Force, as director of plans, XVIII Airborne Corps, special assistant to the Chief of Staff of the Army, command of a deployed joint task force and as an instructor in strategy and policy at the Army War College.

This is a classic sea shanty and dates from the late 18th century. The word ‘shanty’ comes from the French verb ‘chanter’, which means ‘to sing’. Sea shanties were work songs and sung by sailors as they attended to their various shipboard tasks. They were often in the form of a ‘call’ and ‘response’; a strong solo singer (the ‘shantyman’) would sing alternate lines of the verse and a group of sailors would respond. They would all join together for the chorus. In this arrangement, the chorus is in three-part harmony. It also sounds good if you sing the melody line only (the top part). More recently, it was sung in the feature film ‘Master and Commander’. This film gives an accurate portrayal of life on a warship in the Napoleonic era Find more teaching resources and ideas on the World Voice Songbook https://schoolsonline.britishcouncil.org/classroom-resources/world-voice/world-songbook
