On this week's episode of And Colossally That's History! , Matt Bishop and Richard Williams look back at the controversial ‘crashgate' scandal, when it emerged that the Renault driver Nelson Piquet Junior deliberately crashed during the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix to hand a major sporting advantage to his team-mate, Fernando Alonso, who went on to win the race.Matt and Richard look at the origins of the saga, peak into the murkiness around who came up with the idea and put it into action, explain how it came to be uncovered, and discuss the punishments handed out to those involved. They also debate the morals of the incident itself - was it the worst example of cheating in sporting history (as some claimed at the time) or an example of F1 gamesmanship gone too far? Matt and Richard will be bringing members an exclusive Q&A episode at the end of Season 3, where they'll answer questions on each of the topics covered. This week we saw the grid face the test that is the Marina Bay Street Circuit. High Heat. Tight corners. A race that demands your complete concentration. And while the general podcasting and journalist community would have you think Lando Norris lacked this at moments, we discuss how he still managed to put in one of the most dominant performances we've seen this year. Pumping in great lap times at his engineer's request. While Lando did exactly what he had to do, we wished others had held up their end of things (we're looking at you Oscar Piastri). We also wished Mercedes avoided overthinking itself by sticking Lewis Hamilton on soft tires to start the race. But most of all, we hope that this wasn't Daniel Ricciardo's last race in F1 (recorded prior to yesterday's announcement).Take a listen as we break down the race and the surrounding storylines of the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.
Before rubber even met concrete for the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, Formula 1 was buzzing with news about the future of Daniel Ricciardo and the FIA's new guidelines around profanity on and off track. In this interview with @peterwindsor we react to the Singapore Grand Prix we discuss Max Verstappen using bad language in the F1 drivers' press conference and whether F1 were wrong to punish him? How did Peter Windsor handle prickly drivers and which drivers were the most challenging to interview? We discuss whether Lando Norris or Max Verstappen had the drive of the day, and is it time for Red Bull to make a decision on Sergio Perez's future at the team and replace him with Liam Lawson? Have we seen Daniel Ricciardo in an F1 car for the final time and did he make the wrong decision leaving Red Bull in the first place? Did Mercedes make another mistake by starting Lewis Hamilton on the soft tyres or was this informed by the mistakes they had made at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix earlier this season?- become a member -https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxyxUe_jRskL8xH7n580Ecw/join- where to find me -Twitter: https://twitter.com/CameronF1TVTiktok: https://www.tiktok.com/@cameronf1tvFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/CameronF1TVBusiness Email : cxmeronf1@gmail.com#f1 #formula1 #f1testing #f12023 #redbullracing #redbull #ferrari

Nico Rosberg and Matt Gallagher join Matt Baker on the Sky Sports F1 Podcast to review the Singapore Grand Prix where McLaren claimed another win, edging Lando Norris closer to the constructor's championship. With upcoming Sprint weekends on the horizon, the panel discusses the impact the format may have on Red Bull and its hold over the constructor's championship. The panel also discusses whether the Singapore Grand Prix was Daniel Ricciardo's last race weekend after the driver indicated it could be. As well as debating whether Max Verstappen will really quit Formula One after the FIA punished the Red Bull driver for swearing during a press conference in Singapore.
In the Marina Bay paddock, Tom Clarkson, F1 Correspondent and Presenter Lawrence Barretto and Sam Power from Australia's Channel 10 react to a dominant Lando Norris victory at the Singapore Grand Prix. Was the McLaren driver's 20-second winning margin a message to the world, himself, McLaren or championship rival Max Verstappen about what he's capable of? Or perhaps all of the above? And how much confidence will Norris take from a much better race start? Lando's race engineer Will Joseph joins the pod to discuss how they produced such a formidable performance and how the whole team are rallying together for his title challenge. Plus, was Singapore Daniel Ricciardo's last race in Formula 1? Lawrence tells us what it was like to interview a rather emotional Daniel after the Grand Prix and the guys discuss why Franco Colapinto could be a great option for Red Bull in the near future after the Argentine enjoyed another impressive weekend for Williams. The 2024 Singapore Grand Prix - was this Daniel Ricciardo's last Formula 1 race? If so, it's unfair that Ricciardo and his legion of fans didn't get a chance to bid him a proper farewell at a race and on-track. Truthfully, a decision doesn't seem to be have been made; and Red Bull's driver move could be more towards retaining Liam Lawson for the long term, than dropping Daniel Ricciardo. And of course, Ricciardo's performances have been wanting, no doubt. Also, the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix was another stand-out event, but not so much so the racing itself. McLaren's Lando Norris dominated every day of the race weekend; also, he went unchallenged, by his rivals and his team-mate, Oscar Piastri. If Ferrari hadn't bottled qualifying, maybe they could've taken the fight to the McLarens, unlike Red Bull Racing-Max Verstappen who were thrilled to qualify and finish second. Red Bull Racing cheekily used Racing Bull's Ricciardo to take the "fastest lap" of the race away from Norris, thereby taking away a key championship point. It's all within the rules and regulations, but against the spirit of the sport? The trio, Soumil Arora, @f1statsguru and Kunal Shah discuss the various stories from Singapore, including Max Verstappen's win against the FIA's silly punishments. Tune in! Round 18 of the 2024 Formula 1 Season is here! But how's it going to play out? Let's talk about it.
ESPN's Laurence Edmondson and Nate Saunders are back for another episode of Unlapped ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix. After an exciting race weekend in Baku, which teams are looking like the favorites heading to a tough street circuit in Singapore? Who was at fault between Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez after their late race crash in Baku. Plus, is this setting up to be one of the greatest F1 seasons of all-time? Frankly, the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix is Lando Norris' best chance to make BIG inroads into Max Verstappen's 59 points lead in the Drivers' Championship. If McLaren score 1-2 (Norris-Piastri), and they're capable of doing so, they will score their 50th 1-2 in Formula 1 history. But crucially, if Max Verstappen 7th or 8th (assuming Red Bull Racing is the fourth fastest car + all cars finish), then Norris could out-score Verstappen by nearly 20 points. 6 races remain after Singapore, and a 35-something lead will seem far more surmountable, especially since 3 rounds have the Sprint + Grand Prix format (34 points per round). Hence, the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix will either thrown the door wide open for Norris in the Drivers' Championship OR shut it a bit more firmly. In this episode of the Inside Line F1 Podcast, Soumil Arora and Kunal Shah preview the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix. They discuss the circuit's characteristics and why this race is special for Formula 1 teams and drivers - it offers a physical, mental and mechanical challenge like no other. Also, will McLaren use "papaya rules" even more firmly if Norris *has* the chance to score big against Verstappen, even if that means asking Piastri to give up a race win!? Lots of stories and narratives to play out this weekend, starting with our 2024 Singapore Grand Prix preview episode. Tune in! In the run-up to the Spanish Grand Prix, Alpine confirmed it had hired former Benetton and Renault Formula 1 team boss Flavio Briatore as an executive advisor. Briatore ran the Enstone team for two spells under different guises, leading them to several titles along the way, but he exited amid scandal following the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix race-fixing incident. So why is he back now? And what does it mean for Alpine in the long- and short-term? Answering those questions are Edd Straw, Scott Mitchell-Malm and 'Team Enstone' specialist Damien Smith, author of the recent book 'Benetton: Rebels of Formula 1'. Want extra podcast content?
