David Lynch… achja, David Lynch. Ich weiß gar nicht, wo ich anfangen soll: Meine erste surreale Filmliebe. Ich war wahrscheinlich 16, als ich zum ersten Mal Lost Highway gesehen habe. Und natürlich habe ich nicht verstanden, was da auf dem Bildschirm vor sich geht. Muss man bei Lynch auch gar nicht, und sollte man wahrscheinlich auch nicht. David Lynchs große surrealen Filme funktionieren nämlich trotz ihres akademischen, experimentellen Gestus vor allem als emotionale Filme, die Unterhaltung und Arthaus, traditionelles Kino und Experiment miteinander verbinden. Sie bedienen sich beim Pulp, beim Mystery, beim Film Noir, beim Horror, beim Thriller und bei der Erotik und zerfransen und zerfasern sich dann aber so, dass sie im Gegensatz zu den traditionellen Genrefilmen keine kohärente Handlung mehr besitzen. Sie sind Puzzles, die nicht gelöst werden können, nicht gelöst werden wollen. Cineastische Möbiusbänder, auf Zelluloid gebannte Paradoxien. Aber eben auch verflucht unterhaltsame Trips ins Unterbewusstsein. Kein Wunder, dass Lynch als der Mainstreamigste unter den Experimentalfilmern gilt… oder eben auch der experimentellste unter den Mainstream-Regisseuren, je nachdem aus welcher Richtung man kommt. Dennoch ist sein letzter Langfilm Inland Empire aus dem Jahr 2006 harter Tobak. Wahrscheinlich sein experimentellster und dekonstruktivistischster Film seit seinem Debüt Eraserhead. Zu Gunsten des Spiels mit der damals noch jungen digitalen Videotechnik verzichtet Lynch größtenteils auf die von ihm sonst bekannten düsteren Hochglanzbilder und erzählt in dreckigen, überbelichteten, unterbelichteten, mit dem Look & Feel von homemade Amateurfilmen spielenden Sequenzen die Geschichte von einer Frau in Nöten. So beschreibt er selbst zumindest den Film in einem Satz. Und den Rest sollen wir uns selbst zusammenreimen. Also dann… ohne groß auf den Inhalt einzugehen und dich möglicherweise zu sehr zu beeinflussen, Johannes. Lass uns ein wenig puzzlen.
