Rodney Perry loves the spotlight at center stage and will never abandon his life as a stand-up comedian delivering his brazen reality based comedy. With 24 years of marriage and six children (5 girls and 1 boy) Perry is an expert on all things family and rips the seams of crowds that attend his shows to hear all about his fatherhood fodder. Perry finds delight in giving back and sharing what he's learned over the years with his weekly improv classes that he hosts in Atlanta where he calls home. Comedy is his forte, however, this funny man isn't afraid to explore his serious side in roles as is evident his appearances in the film “Mr. Right” where he gets to flex his acting chops alongside actor Columbus Short as well as the upcoming drama Broad Street Bullies where he plays a notorious gangster. Adding producer to his long list of credentials he's also producing shows like the independent release, A Song for Jordan. The early years of comedy found Perry his first gig as a writer/warm up guy for Kim Whitley on her talk show “Oh Drama.” Being on the scene, he was able to parlay his skills into opportunity and began opening for the likes of George Lopez, Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer, to name a few. He would spend the next 10 years nonstop on television in various capacities. Hosting comedy shows like “Who's Got Jokes” helped him fine tune his craft and fueled the fire for the screen, big and small. Catching the attention of comedy lovers and industry shot callers alike, Perry got another big break with a starring role as “Harold” in Tyler Perry's “Madea's Big Happy Family” and it's only been a meteoric ride on the fast track ever since. Perry has since found a home at Bounce TV where as the host of his own comedy show “Off the Chain” he would spend the next several years giving Bounce TV its leverage in the cable market with his ever increasing ratings. “Off The Chain” would go on to become a sold out tour and in addition he would also break records for the young network with his number 1 rated comedy special “Rodney Perry: 44 and Still Ticking” Perry is resilient having survived a stroke that left him without the use of his left side. He was tireless during the rehabilitation process and today you'd be hard pressed to see any deficit in his body post stroke. He recently added COVID-19 survivor to the list, he assures us this is not deliberate. Rodney is a winner and a fighter but he takes no credit for his survival. He gives God all the credit and the glory. He believes God still has some duties that he must complete. Currently Perry is appearing in the film Coming to America 2, which should have a Christmas release. He is also producing and starring in a SiriusXM show called “That Jokers's Funny”. Rodney is also scheduled to co-write, direct and produce an 8 episode small series for Comedy Hype the internet magazine entitled “Someone You Should Know”. Rodney just won't stop!! DJ Fly Guy Shifts Career As Renowned Photographer-- Stepping Out on Faith

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 3, 2021 33:26

Born Rahsaan Alexander, DJ Fly Guy began his life in Georgetown, Guyana, before moving to Brooklyn, NY, and then finally Miami, FL. Rashaan had what felt like regular life growing up, being raised in a typical two-parent household until his father tragically passed away from pancreatic cancer when he was only 15 years old. Despite the devastation caused by the personal tragedy, a young Rashaan never wavered, developing a passion for creating, a passion he said was inspired by his two older brothers that he was fortunate enough to watch as they got involved in hip-hop culture as DJ's, rappers, and journalists, and have massive success in their respective paths. Paired with the fact that from 10 years old, he knew he wanted to be the type of person that had entertained those around him, a realization he made in 5th grade when a teacher pointed out his talent for storytelling and invited him to share a story with the class, it seemed Rashaan was destined to channel his inner passion for creating and share the results with the world. Being a story of surviving in real-time, the artbook and exhibit duo aims to represent the willingness and courage it takes to adapt and figure out what's next for one's life. To many, the pandemic has shown that life can throw curveballs at you, and you have a choice of either letting it break you down or shoulder it and power through. To Rashaan, the pandemic shook the powder keg of mental health, testing each of us and either making or breaking us, claiming to know that it had broken some people that he knew. Losing everything even brought Rashaan into a deep depression, one that he swore he wouldn't let destroy him. Immediately his focus shifted, keeping true to his passion for creating and revisiting a love for photography, a love that began in high school with the movie Love Jones. Rashaan describes the process as therapeutic for him, helping him find his way during this dark time. Rashaan's life has been devastated by the coronavirus, much like many other Americans. With the pandemic closing down the nightlife scene, for over a year due to COVID, Rashaan could no longer be DJ Fly Guy, and without his job, the harsh realities of figuring out how he was going to pay his rent or continue to live on began to loom over his head. Even with that immense pressure, Rashaan remains optimistic and confident that his book "To Miami with Love" is just the beginning. Rahsaan “DJ Fly Guy” Alexander is an advocate for mental health, and he understands that this year is unique, serving as rugged terrain for many of the people still trying to find their way along their path as the pandemic still stretches on. With that in mind, he aspires to help those people find their way as a light in the darkness. He hopes to help those who are lost or struggling to find their purpose, and it all starts and is developed in his "To Miami with Love.” Tune in for this conversation on finding the courage to follow your passion and jump! 2:00 dealing with pandemic as DJ 7:26 how I protected my mental health during COVID 8:40 desire to dive into photography 13:30 books sold out 3 times 15:55 trusting the process of life 28:00 what's the future look like Tell and Tell Secrets: I am a really good billiard pool player. At the age of eight, Bankson developed a rather innocuous strain of Acne vulgaris, which later transformed into an aggressive strain of acne conglobata by the time she was fourteen. Eventually, her severe skin condition had progressed to the extent that it engulfed her entire face and most of her body. Bankson's parents tried tirelessly to treat their daughter's acne by taking her to 16 different specialists across the United States and western Europe, which proved unsuccessful. She was bullied relentlessly for her severe acne and eventually pulled out of school as a result. She later studied with a private tutor to complete her education. Along with her skin condition, she also has uterus didelphys, a condition wherein she possesses two vaginas, two wombs, and two cervixes. In 2010, Bankson began making videos on the YouTube channel "Diamondsandheels14" on topics such as makeup, fashion, and lifestyle. She has since re-branded to "Cassandra Bankson" with a focus on skincare that is both Cruelty Free and Vegan. Bankson went viral after she began to embrace her beauty, take off the makeup and bare it all to the public. She knew the pain hiding behind makeup was doing to her self esteem. Dermatologists would often tell her they had patients with cystic acne as severe as hers, she wanted to find others hiding in the world who also were dealing with the same condition. As a model, she took her makeup off and showed her bare skin to the world online, and after posting she didn't look at her YouTube channel for four months. She posted the video hoping it would help "just one person" and well that video has since gained well over 21 million views. Master Counterfeiter Arthur J. Williams Turned World Renowned Artist Tells All

Arthur J. Williams is a convicted counterfeiter originally from Chicago, one of the best in the world, known for replicating the unbreakable 1996 series $100 bill. After serving three prison sentences, he became a self-taught artist and owner of three art galleries, including his latest, DaVinci's Gallery, in West Hollywood, California. His story is a testament to how his pursuit of money and mischief has shaped his art, which in turn helped rehabilitate his life as an international renowned artist. Secret Service agents doggedly pursued Williams as he printed what some estimate to have been as much as $10 million in fake money before he eventually landed in federal prison for six and a half years. This was the third time he was incarcerated for his criminal exploits that have been covered in Rolling Stone, VICE, Gizmodo, Forbes and featured on American Greed. This story probably sounds like the biography of a career criminal, but during that laststint behind bars, Art reinvented himself as a legit artist. Sticking to what he knew, Williams began painting old currency to pass his time, as well as reconnect to his artistic nature. He began reading books on Da Vinci and Michelangelo, and over time, mastered their techniques with his own personal ones. With his admiration for the ancient art of engraving still captivating him, his passion for ink transformed to oil, thus bringing him to create the masterful collection of currency on canvas and paper. Since his July 23, 2013 release, Williams cleaned toilets, transported exotic cars, delivered liquor, and painted new construction. Rather than returning to the press, and just print the money to acquire his vision, Williams stayed true to the course and to success as an artist. Working during the day to pay the bills, and staying up late to perfect his craft, Art had a victory of sorts when his 5 Educational Series Bill Collection that he created in prison opened at a Chicago gallery, all selling modestly. Williams has created the 1875 Freedom Collection. This is a collection of currency that was printed in honor of the enactment of the civil liberties act. Within each bill's design is a powerful, female character representing the strength of America. In 2017, Williams used the profits from the sale of his paintings to open the first DaVinci's Gallery in his home neighborhood of Bridgeport in Chicago. After the gallery shut down due to the COVID pandemic, Williams relocated to L.A. where he resides with his wife, Sarah, and two of his six kids and has his 3rd art gallery currently in Los Angeles. Music Artist Tiffany Bynoe Shares Power of Healing

Tiffany Bynoe is a multi-genre Billboard charting artist who has scored hit singles in Adult Contemporary/Smooth Jazz, R&B and Gospel music. The versatile soul songstress just released her latest single “Make Me Say It Again.” Produced by the young emerging production duo The Trillionaires, “Make me Say It Again” is a lush, contemporary and deeply sensual re-imagining of The Isley Brothers' classic 1975 track “Make Me Say It Again,” with Tiffany bringing her unique female perspective to a lyric originally sung by Ronald Isley. Lorenzo Thomas, CEO/Program Manager of 100 Hip Hop and RNB FM, says, “Tiffany's rendition of the Isley Brothers classic is a testament to the sounds of yesteryear but also ignites today's souls' yearning for some good R&B.” “The interesting thing about my career is that when I used to sing love songs, I was too young to understand the truer meanings of them,” the singer says. “But now, I sing them with a richer understanding of life and love and am able to share with listeners another way of thinking. I have always been a huge fan of the Isleys, and when this one came up one night on Pandora, I knew if I took the right approach to it, it would be a way to bring the older generation of R&B music into the now. I relate to its emotions about being in love and in a relationship so meaningful that you just want to declare that love and are overjoyed when someone makes you say it again and again," she said. “Make Me Say It Again” follows a string of hit singles for Tiffany over the past few years that includes her Top 30 Billboard Gospel Airplay song “Seasons,” “Free,” “Love Like Waterfalls,” “Be Still” and various remixes of “Shame.” Her most recent singles in 2020 were “Be Still” and “All of Us” featuring The Trillionaires. Tiffany's newly released album features songs co-written by the singer, her husband Kyle Bynoe and Marquise Brown and produced by The Trillionaires. The collection also feature sTiffany's trademark wide range of styles and include a collaboration with the “Godfather of Gospel/Jazz,” Ben Tankard. A seasoned performer by the time she was 14, Tiffany competed and won Amateur Night three times at the famed Apollo Theatre in NYC. Following that, she was offered numerous recording deals, but her mother insisted she finish high school first. At 17, the singer signed a major recording contract with Elektra Records and scored the #3 Billboard hit “Give Him a Love He Can Feel” under the name Tene Williams. Wendy Williams was one of the DJ's who broke the record in New York, and one of Tiffany's dreams came true when she appeared on “Soul Train” with Don Cornelius. The singer also appeared on BET's video soul and other major platforms of the time. Tiffany has used her downtime during the pandemic to finish two books, “Ugly Duckling No More” and “M.E. Made Extraordinary.”. These volumes tell her inspirational story of overcoming adversity and challenges in both her personal and professional lives. Tune in to the episode for more! Show Highlights: (02:16) Covid Love Story: Getting married to the love of her life on New Year's eve. (07:49) How she sailed through the effects Covid had on her professional career. (10:16) Being more appreciative of the different roles played by other people in their industry. (23:37) Learning to maintain motivation while doing more with less Tell and Tell Secrets: Sheléa highlights the fact that, if anything, the Covid-19 pandemic has taught her that she can do more with less and still be impactful. While it may be quite true that you lack certain resources that could accelerate your success, you have the power to choose your thoughts, swapping out negative, “victim-like” ones that don't serve a great purpose for positive, helpful ones that do. So if you're thinking or speaking some version of “I can't do it because…”, note it, but then ask: “What can I do to control my situation?” That has served Sheléa well and it's something that she's carrying with her into the future. Will you? Words of advice: You either have to evolve, adapt, or die. You need grace for when you don't always hit the mark. Hold on and stay strong. Why do so many people seem to love to tear down celebrities on social media and delight in their failures? No matter how much good celebrities do and how much they accomplish career-wise, these facts do not usually show up on social media. Instead, some people will speculate that singers are lip-synching, entering rehab, or speak ill of the so-called monstrosities celebrities are wearing. Our guest today, Krystina Arielle, has had her fair share of social media bashing. And despite having to face great challenges especially during the Covid-19 pandemic (Like losing her dad to Covid), she still had to deal with the threats and insults she has been getting from a section of social media users for tweets that she shared from a point of passion about fighting racism. Krystina is an accomplished actress, currently the host of Star Wars: The High Republic Show which was her first big gig working with Lucasfilm. She previously worked with another major franchise: Dungeons and Dragons and appeared as herself in Dungeons & Dragons Live 2019: The Descent and also as Haven Aireel Gudtyme in Fungeons and Flagons. She's known for her vibrant characters on the popular series Critical Role, Sirens of the Realm, Six in One, Denver By Night, Ex RoomMate, among others. Her backstory, insights on criticism on social media, and the wisdom and strength she has gained over the years will make a very inspirational hour or so for you to enjoy and learn from. See you on the inside! Show Highlights: (01:19) Fandom Glory: From just a Star Wars fan to the host of a major Star Wars show. (05:00) Diving into the world of cosplay, her first time on a green screen stage, and the impact Nichelle Nichols had on her career. (19:30) Using her platform to fight for what is right in society especially for minorities and the challenges she has endured over it. (29:03) Holding a different view of being critical of others without being hurtful or malicious. (33:42) The value of the immense support she got from the entertainment industry. (37:26) Fighting not to completely internalize and believe the hateful things that she receives online. (43:13) Helping other people cope with being bashed online. (48:16) What it's been like to get immense support through #iStandWithKrystina. (50:11) Requesting big corporations to offer more support and protection to the minorities who work for them. (54:10) The Wall of Representation, what her vision board looks like and her vision board creation process. Tell and Tell Secrets: Krystina shares that one of her biggest secretive desires has been to make her sister proud. She highlights the fact that when her sister acknowledged what she does for a living made her want to keep doing it. Words of advice: Know that you have to be very mindful of how you categorize because it can be extremely hurtful to people and it can be misconstrued in a way that your entire point is lost because people aren't paying attention after that first sentence. Constructive criticism is great but you can criticize without threatening, being hurtful or malicious. Know who you are and think about how you can be better. Find your peace and protect your peace. No matter how public your job is, you do not owe yourself to everyone. With the ongoing 75th season of the NBA reduced to 72 games for each team due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there's this basketball inspiration who's not in the league but has built a bigger following than most of the players. He's worked with NBA stars, celebrities, NBA-related brands, and thousands of kids nationally and even worldwide. Meet the multi-talented rapper, elite NBA skills trainer, and entrepreneur Johnny “Dribble2Much” Stephene who has over the years leveraged the power of social media to become one of the hottest individual brands in basketball. But it hasn't been an easy journey for Johnny. Despite facing numerous challenges growing up, he was inspired by watching Allen Iverson and Michael Jordan on TV and he loved the way the game brought his family together. That grew into a lifelong passion for basketball and using it to inspire people to come together and view basketball as an art. He ended up getting a basketball scholarship for his four years of college which was very helpful to his family because they didn't have to worry about his tuition.   Dribble2Much later played professionally and unfortunately suffered an injury which prompted him to focus on his dribbling, and things basically went uphill from there. Since starting his Instagram account he's gained more than 1.4 Million followers and counting, worked out with All-Stars Kevin Durant and DeMar DeRozan, been considered by an NBA team for employment, organized clinics for kids worldwide, launched an apparel line called Handle Life (a double meaning for his ball-handle and recovery from a major injury) and signed a few endorsements deals with more possibly to come. Dribble2Much's journey is nothing short of inspirational and he comes to share it with Shawn Zanotti on this fun-packed 33-minute episode. Don't miss it! Show Highlights: • Making adjustments during Covid to continue helping kids at homework on their handles and stay engaged in the basketball community (01:59) • The value of consuming his programs via video and his app (03:30) • How watching Allan Iverson and Michael Jordan as a kid inspired him to become who he is today (04:25) • Instagram magic: The jumpstart to his career that came from posting his training videos on Instagram (06:37) • Learning from professional NBA players and sharing that knowledge with the kids he trains (09:54) • Being on NBA 2K and consistently killing it in HipHop from a young age with his numerous talents (13:27) • Going for best rapper and hooper alive: Sampling songs from the 10 song album he's working on (16:52) • Positive energy all the way: Why he chooses to rap about his basketball-affiliated work instead of his rough childhood (23:07) • Encouraging young aspiring basketball players to visualize success and work towards it (26:46) • The tons of motivation he got from working with Drake (29:18) Tell and Tell Secrets: To help you get the most insane handles ASAP, Dribble2Much shares the one way he does it himself; The Handlelife Heavy Ball. The ball is guaranteed to help you get the fastest results in ball handling efficiency, hand speed, and ball control. You can find the ball at Shop.HandleLife.com Words of advice: It doesn't matter how tall you are, if you can dribble the basketball, you can make plays for your teammates. Put the work first all the time. If you're an NBA player or young athlete, continue having that picture in your mind of where you wanna be at. That's what saves you.  If you wanna be great, you're going to do the things to be great like discipline and continuous works out. When you have a dream and you stop working at it, that's when another person comes up, swoops your dream, and runs with it.
