Heart of the Glen by Jennifer DeibelCan the lonely thread of her life be woven into a new and finer pattern? When Saoirse Fagan arrives at Drumboe Castle to start her new job as housemaid, she is dismayed to learn that the lord of the house passed away a week prior. It's a trifecta of fun today on a BONUS EPISODE with Jaime Jo, Kimberley Woodhouse and Tracie Peterson! We're featuring WITH EACH TOMORROW, their new release in the JEWELS OF KALISPELL series!
Not all authors can step up to the plate and hit six home runs in a year, but if any can, I bet Kimberley Woodhouse is one of them. With a packed year of novels to write and share with the world, is it any wonder that she and I chatted about two different historical fiction books in this episode? Listen in to see which ones! note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. First up, Set in Stone. People who love plays on words might call this a "dino-might" series about the "Bone Wars." Other, less ridiculous folks, chose to allude to the "gold rush" by calling this period of American history, "the great dinosaur rush." I like dino-might. I mean, they're dinosaurs, and they're "MIGHTy" cool creatures, no? But if paleontology isn't your thing (how can this be???) then how about a different kind of conservation--the formation of Glacier National Park and a thunderpuppy who can't see how some things that look so good on paper might not be so good for those people who rely on something different. And how they clash--and all the fun stuffiness that comes with that. Kimberley talks about her writing with Tracie Peterson in the Jewels of Kalispell series and wow! I'm excited myself! Set in Stone by Kimberley Woodhouse A dangerous scheme could bury their long-held dreams forever. . . . From the time she was little, Martha Jankowski has been digging in the dirt, much to the dismay of her mother. Now she dreams of being a paleontologist and is determined to make her parents proud by uncovering the next big discovery. When Martha finds what she hopes to be a fully intact dinosaur skeleton--one that could win her an acclaimed exhibit--she learns another team is competing against her and could steal her chance at being recognized for this momentous discovery. Paleontology student Jacob Duncan has fulfilled his dream of digging for dinosaur bones at last. In a race against time, he and his team are bent on unearthing a complete skeleton to claim a museum exhibit with their names on it. But when Jacob meets their charming competitor Martha and uncovers foul play within his team, love and danger grow hand in hand until a menacing ruse threatens to destroy it all. and With Each Tomorrow by Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse Even in the midst of adversity, love and faith can flourish. As the formation of Glacier National Park takes Eleanor Briggs and her conservationist father on a journey west to advocate for public lands, her heart carries the weight of a painful past. Since the death of her mother, she has spent her life traveling the country with her father and helping him with his work, but now he's considering settling down and writing a book--and she's not sure what that means for her future. Carter Brunswick faces trials of his own when the Great Northern Railway's departure threatens his family's livelihood and the entire town of Kalispell. In the visiting conservationist's daughter, Ellie, he finds a spirited woman who challenges his convictions in ways he never anticipated, and his own dreams for the future begin to change. When tensions over the railroad's departure boil over, Ellie and Carter are drawn together on a daring journey that tests the depths of their feelings and their faith in God. It's always a beautiful day when I get to chat with Tracie Peterson, and with her new book, Knowing You coming out, I was excited to learn more about the story within the story. Listen in to see why the hard topics explored still offer so much hope for today. Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. How This Author Explores Racism and Shows Us New Hope! Racism is such an ugly thing. There's no way to avoid it--not in the past and not today. But when authors like Tracie Peterson look at it through the lens of Scripture as she does in Knowing You, hope is bound to follow. I loved that Tracie took on the topic of the prejudice and bigotry that surrounded Asian culture at the turn of the 20th century here in America. Add to that the suspense and intrigue she's been putting in all of her Pictures of the Heart books, and you have what promises to be an excellent read! Tracie also chatted with us about her upcoming series--both of them! Cheyenne, here we come! Knowing You by Tracie Peterson Could a captivating art exhibit hold the key to truth--and love? Budding artist May Parker is captivated by the Japanese exhibits at the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition and longs to know more about her mother's heritage--which her mother refuses to speak of because of the heartache she left behind in Japan. Wanting to experience more of the exhibits, May works as a Camera Girl--but her curiosity leads her into danger when a suit of samurai armor becomes the target of an elusive art forger. After ten years apart, May is reunited with her childhood friend Lee Munro, a police detective assigned to keep a watchful eye on the exposition. Their friendship immediately begins to blossom with hints of something more, but when they become entangled in a dangerous heist involving the samurai armor and their love is threatened, can they overcome the odds against them? On today's episode, Amanda Cabot joins us for a chat about her latest release After the Shadows. Our Pinch for the Past takes a look at the largest earthquake in California's recorded history and comparable to the 1906 San Francisco quake. For our Bookworm Review, Grace Hitchcock shares her review of Remember Me by Tracie Peterson.
Chatting with avid researchers like Tracie Peterson always offers super-cool insights into things you never knew. Like her research for her upcoming release. She talked about the THOUSANDS of plant varieties displayed in the landscaping of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition, and so it was no wonder that she included a botanist among the characters of Finding Us. Listen in to see what other cool things she learned writing the Pictures of the Heart Series. Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. I Love a Good Fair, but Finding Us Shares Something Unprecedented! From roller coasters to children's days to Inuits sweltering in their furs during a heatwave, the Seattle Exposition had it all. And Tracie Peterson's "Camera Girls" are capturing it one photograph at a time. See how she uses these girls, their Brownie cameras, and the exposition to tell gripping stories you won't want to miss. And covers. #BecauseGorgeousCovers! In addition to that, we chatted about faith, about research, and... the latest books she's read. Reminder: 26 Below by Kimberley Woodhouse and Rembrandt is in the Wind. Finding Us by Tracie Peterson One candid photograph will change the lives of four people forever. While taking photographs at an exposition in Seattle in 1909, Camera Girl Eleanor Bennett snaps an image of a woman in widow's clothes with deep sorrow etched in her expression and a young infant in her arms. Eleanor longs to study botany at the University of Washington and soon becomes fast friends with botanist Bill Reed, but she can't stop thinking about the widow in the photograph. She is stunned to learn Bill recognizes the woman as the sister-in-law he believed lost in a shipwreck. As Eleanor and Bill hunt for Amelia Reed to reunite her with her grief-stricken husband, they must stand together to face the danger that follows and learn to trust that God will direct their paths. Don't forget that you can get Finding Us (40% off) and Remember Me (30% off) from BakerBookHouse.com She's also on BookBub and GoodReads. Find Tracie Peterson on her WEBSITE. I kept seeing the cover everywhere. On Facebook, Instagram, on Facebook again. The cover grabbed me. The obvious suspense/thriller feel got me, too. However, I missed one obvious thing until I was chatting with Tracie Peterson one day--it was written by Kimberley Woodhouse. *insert scratched record here* Call me brain frozen, but I didn't know she wrote suspense! But she did--she started off in suspense, and I like to say she's returned to her roots with her latest release, 26 Below. Listen in to see how this happened! Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you! What Makes Me Think a Cyber Attack Sounds Like a Good Read? Let's start with Alaska. Land of ice, snow, and not temperatures in the teens--the HUNDRED and teens, that is. Then add in the ticking weather bomb of dropping temperatures and it sounds even better. Right? Finally, stir in a quirky native woman who keeps foretelling doom and gloom, and what doesn't sound good??? And if that all didn't cut it, there's that little thing called faith. Kimberley Woodhouse talked about the faith she wove into her story, and I don't know about you, but those are my favorite sorts of books. So there's that. We also chatted about her backlist (hard to get those original suspense novels, but they might be on eBay or Biblio.com) and about her upcoming publishing schedule. Two suspense and three historicals a year for the next few years. YAY!!! *does happy dance* Like me, Kimberley Woodhouse doesn't just have a to-be-read pile. She has a whole heaping gob of shelves stuffed with them. I love when I'm not alone. I feel her pain. Feel it. We'll never read all the books we want to--never write them all, either. But we'll have rich lives filled with story while we're here on earth, and that's beautiful. God is good. 26 Below by Kimberley Woodhouse "A thrill ride. . . as current as today's front-page news!" --Colleen Coble, USA Today best-selling author In her new role as Emergency Operations Center director for Fairbanks, Alaska, Darcie Phillips prevents disasters. But none of her training can prepare her for the terror that's coming. As a cybersecurity specialist, Jason Myers is determined to ferret out any threats to the town he now calls home--and that includes his reckless brother and his ecoterrorist friends. When an old woman's wild prediction--widespread destruction as soon as the Fairbanks temperature falls to 26 below--hits national headlines, neither Darcie nor Jason sees a real risk to anything but tourism. Then the bodies start dropping. Darcie is relying on her experience and intelligence to stop a killer; Jason is relying on God to guide the way. They'll have to work together to find the truth and prevent their Alaskan town from becoming a city of nightmares. The first in a thrilling new suspense series from best-selling author Kimberley Woodhouse, 26 Below will delight fans of Lynnette Eason, Irene Hannon, and Lynn Blackburn. I was a double finalist in 2004, another book of mine, Montana Rose, was in the running, too. (Montana Rose released in July).Every year at the conference the acquiring editor for Heartsong Presents gives a contract to an unpublished author. I was so hopeful! I knew there was a chance it could be me. The Heartsong editor, Tracie Peterson, said someone else's name, so okay, I've been rejected before. I kind of expect it. And then she said, “And this year we're giving two contracts to first-time authors. We're offering a contract to Mary Connealy.” I get chills saying that! It was a wonderful, thrilling shocking moment. I had to go up and get the contract, in front of 350 other writers, all clapping. Today I have the honor of sharing my conversation with the one and the only Tracie Peterson. Tracie has been a staple in Christian historical fiction for 30 years. She is often called the queen of historical fiction romance, authoring 130 books over her career, all of them overflowing with incredible historical details that transport the reader into various parts of and times of the U.S., and her stories are always saturated with her passion for Christ and encouraging people with her faith by having characters walk through very real issues and finding a very faithful God in their journey. Tracie shares with me how the Lord has met her over her career doing whatever she needs to do right where she is in the name of Jesus. How she has felt and continues to feel God's faithfulness and care for her as she's surrendered her life and stories to the Lord is so powerful as she has weathered the changes in her own life, in the publishing world, and getting to talk with her is like getting to sit down for coffee with a woman who has lived a deep life of faith and left and continues to leave a life that sews kingdom seeds in all she does, and I hope it encourages you wherever you are in your story. I had a delightful chat with historical romance author, Tracie Peterson, a couple of weeks ago, and boy did I learn some cool stuff! Listen in to find out what prompted Tracie to write about trains and New Mexico and just what horned toads have to do with any of it. She even gives us a sneak peek into what's coming next! Hint: it involves "brownies," freezing people (we presume), and gold! Note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. When You've Written This Many Books, You're Sure to Be a Favorite Tracie Peterson has been one of my favorite authors for years. I knew I'd read her books since at least the early days of this century, but when she said 1995, I knew I'd probably read every one of those first books, too. Though her first love might be Jesus, her first writing love is definitely historical fiction with romance, adventure, and maybe a little intrigue to boot! As with many historical authors, research consumes a lot of her time. Find out which books involved her going to a trick riding school and how a book about a "horny-toad man" helped her write the Love on the Santa Fe series! In addition to chatting about her books, we also discussed the writing process. And even better, about the wonderful letters from readers.. Tracie Peterson is one prolific writer with over a hundred thirty books to her name! There's sure to be something for everyone, wouldn't you say? Beyond the Desert Sands by Tracie Peterson Can she reconcile who she's become with who she's meant to be? Accustomed to an opulent life with her aunt, the last thing twenty-five-year-old Isabella Garcia wants is to celebrate Christmas in her parents' small silver-mining desert town, leaving her handsome beau, Diego Morales, behind in California. Adding insult to injury, she must bear the company of Aaron Bailey, the disapproving Santa Fe Railroad businessman her father has sent to escort her home, who clearly finds her spoiled. But she is surprised to see how much the town of Silver Veil has grown and how fragile her father's health has become. Then a surprise visitor shows up with news that entirely upends the comfortable life she's been leading. Faced with all these changes, Isabella struggles to sort through her future and who she wants to be. But trouble is brewing, and there are those who hope she stays just as she is, even if it costs her everything. You can preorder the eBook and audiobook from Amazon or you can get the hardback or paperback from BakerBookHouse.com. Find out more about Tracie Peterson and her books on her WEBSITE. This episode was so much fun as I chatted with my friend Kimberley Woodhouse. Her road to publication is an amazing story of two authors pouring into her. Tracie Peterson and Colleen Coble have played pivotal roles in my writing life, so I am not at all surprised that they have been critical for Kimberley. Kimberley has written over 30 novels, and many have been coauthored with Tracie Peterson. You'll love learning about their process as they coauthor. And Kimberley's favorite characters to write are her villains. We may share that in common as well. Be sure to listen in and learn more about her historical romance, historical romantic suspense, and dual-timeline novels. She is one talented and prolific author. I hope you enjoy our conversation as much as I did. We chatted about her book, Along the Rio Grande, about how Christian fiction has changed but still influences people around the world, and about what it's like to coauthor a book. Along the Rio Grande by Tracie PetersonIs her compassion doing more harm than good? Recently widowed Susanna Jenkins has decided to follow her family to the booming town of San Marcial, New Mexico, for a fresh start and to aid in her family's sudden change in fortune. They are tasked with managing her uncle's new Grand Hotel, and it takes all her patience to try to help her parents see the good of their circumstances and relinquish their sense of entitlement. She's hopeful when her brother becomes determined to get a job and make his own way, and she feels drawn to his kind boss, Owen Turner, who works as a boilermaker for the Santa Fe's train shops in town. But the hard work only seems to fuel her brother's anger, and his rough new friends give her pause. When misguided choices put Susanna's family in an even more precarious situation, she worries her help has only made things worse. Leaving her family to fend for themselves seems like the best option, but how can she walk away from the true friendships--and love--that she's found?Get your copy of Along the Rio Grande.Preorder the next book in the series, Beyond the Desert Sands.Tracie Peterson gave her life to Jesus at the age of six.
