I had the honor of meeting Ambassador John Rakolta, Jr. this past summer in New York City. His name may not sound familiar, but John is a serious visionary who currently serves as chairman of Walbridge, a $6.5 billion construction firm based in Detroit, Michigan. Founded in 1916, Walbridge boasts being one of America's largest contractors with deep roots tied to building automotive and manufacturing facilities. Impressively, John predicted the importance of technology in American commerce and steered Walbridge into the future.Today, Walbridge is a leader in building electric vehicle facilities and hyperscale data centers. But here's where it gets interesting: Mr. Rakolta served as the United States Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates and played a lead role in architecting the Abraham Accords between the UAE and Israel. Since then, the Middle East has been literally on fire.On this episode, Ambassador Rakolta provides an in-depth analysis of the Middle East and shares for the first time how the Abraham Accords were established, how they have been effective, and what's next in the region. Ambassador Rakolta also shares his insights on effective leadership, his personal work ethic, and reflections on the current state and future prospects of peace in the region. The episode concludes with thoughts on national security and the importance of bringing manufacturing back to the United States.Preorder Marc's new book, "Some Future Day: How AI Is Going to Change Everything"Sign up for the Some Future Day Newsletter here: https://marcbeckman.substack.com/Episode Links:Amb. Show notes are available at QueenofPeaches.com. For this first episode of 2024, I'm really excited to share my conversation with Hollywood costume supervisor Sara Walbridge. Sara is a graduate of The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago and has been steadily working in Hollywood for over 20 years. Some of her best known TV projects include Love and Death, Barry, GLOW, and True Blood, and her film credits include Don't Look Up, Space Jam: A New Legacy, Vice, and Beautiful Boy. In our chat today, she gives me the lowdown on how costume supervising is like solving a puzzle; how the immediate aftermath of 9/11 inadvertently shaped the trajectory of her career; why if you don't notice the costumes in a movie or TV show, that actually means they've been executed really well; what the most pressing concerns about AI are for costume departments; the kinds of questions that get tossed around in the group chat of the so-called Costume Mafia; why working as a costume supervisor is secretly kind of a blue-collar job; and why she nerds out about making scale maps of changing tents for huge groups of extras. Plus, since we're well into awards season now, Sara highlights some of her favorite costuming moments from the year gone by that she hopes will be recognized by voters. For my Letterboxd users out there, I've created a list featuring all the films we talk about in this episode. Links to that and other show notes will be available on my blog QueenofPeaches.com.
On this week's episode of True Crime New England, Katie and Liz talk about the tragic attacks of two 12-year-old besties out of Essex Junction, Vermont in May of 1981. Melissa Walbridge and Meghan O'Rourke were leaving school a little late and opted to take a shortcut through the woods, only to be met by the malicious 16-year-old Louis Hamlin III and his evil little sidekick, 15-year-old Jamie Savage. The teenage boys ambushed the girls, forcing them to remove their clothes before they choked them, raped them, stabbed them, and shot them with pellet guns. Miraculously, Meghan survived the attack, while Melissa passed from her injuries. Subsequently, the state of Vermont was thrown into a massive rage when Jamie was only sentenced to juvenile detention until his 18th birthday, and was thereafter a free man, while Louis was sentenced to much longer due to being over the age of 16. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/truecrimene/support
Interview with Tom Meyer, President & CEO of Archer Exploration (CSE: RCHR)Recording date: 6th July 2023Archer Exploration (RCHR) is a leading nickel exploration and development company with a strong emphasis on the Canadian market. Headed by Tom Meyer, the company's President and CEO, Archer Exploration focuses on two key projects in their portfolio. One of these projects is the Grasset project, situated in Quebec, while the other comprises a large land package of nickel exploration projects in the Sudbury Camp.Tom Meyer brings a wealth of experience to the company, having worked as a metallurgist and mining analyst in the past. His background includes working for prominent consulting firms, as well as renowned mining companies like Inco (now Vale) and Falconbridge (now Glencore). With his expertise, Tom Meyer possesses a deep understanding of mineral processing and nickel minerals in Canada.Archer Exploration's flagship asset is the Grasset project, located in the Abitibi region of Quebec. This project gained significant attention in 2012 when nickel was accidentally discovered during gold exploration activities. Previously owned by Balmoral, the project became non-core when it was acquired by Walbridge, which focused primarily on gold assets. Recognizing the potential value of the Grasset project, Archer Exploration seized the opportunity to acquire it from Walbridge. The Grasset project stands out due to its high-grade nickel sulfides and exceptionally low carbon footprint. It offers a cleaner and more stable source of nickel compared to laterite deposits in Southeast Asia, which often present environmental challenges. Archer Exploration aims to expand the resource base at Grasset by drilling deeper and defining additional nickel units. The company plans to double the intersection depth below the existing resource, potentially reaching depths of 1,200 to 1,500 meters.Despite temporary pauses in operations due to forest fires in Quebec, Archer remains committed to advancing its exploration efforts at Grasset. Over the next six months, the company aims to complete its drilling program, incorporate data from various drilling techniques, and refine the geological model. Archer Exploration's comprehensive approach positions it as a promising player in the Canadian nickel market, with significant potential for resource growth and value creation.

On this episode, we're touring Doug Giles' Walbridge Farm in Millbrook, New York with Chef Chris McDade and his family. Doug is a multi-generation farmer who raised his boys on the farm. We learned about how his decision to come work for an 80-year-old farmer turned him into a farm owner over a decade ago. He shared his journey showing and raising registered Angus breed cattle. It was fascinating to hear how he decided to start growing out his own beef. You see, when you are a “cow calf” operation seeking to develop the very best genetics - like Doug is - “you don't know how good you are, or if the decisions you are making are working.” This revelation led him to grow out his own steers and start a farm store to sell what he harvested to consumers and restaurant owners, so he could improve his genetics to be the best they could be. In this episode you'll learn: What is Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) and why does it matter to everyone? Why can we be confident in the safety of our beef supply from farm to table? What keeps this farmer going in the beef industry? What farmers feed their families. Why do genetics matter to animal welfare and your plate How chefs and farmers can work together better The Lightning Round Show Sponsor:New York Beef Councilwww.nybeef.org@newyorkbeefcouncil on Instagram Connect with our Guests: Walbridge Farm on Facebook Chef Chris McDade's Restaurant, Popina in Brooklyn, NY Chef Chris McDade on Instagram Connect with EATYALL: https://eatyall.com/https://findfamilyfarms.com/ Instagram - https://instagram.com/letseatyall Facebook - https://facebook.com/letseatyall Twitter - https://twitter.com/letseatyall LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/letseatyall The EATYALL Podcast is hosted by Andy Chapman, CEO and founder of EATYALL. As actor Willie E. Jones III prepares to start the last semester of the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater BFA actor training program, he’s looking forward to Thursday’s one-man show “Missing Mississippi Moons.” The show is written and performed by Twin Cities creative Antonio Duke, an alumnus of the same BFA program. Inspired by a story told by Duke’s grandfather, the play follows a young Black man returning home to Mississippi in 1927 in the wake of his father’s death. Jones says the show is an “investigation on racial violence, grief, and hope ... and what it means to have a legacy in an era when everyone’s trying to cut you down. I think it’s being released at the perfect time.” The show streams for free at 6:30 p.m. Thursday on the Guthrie YouTube Page. A live post-show Q&A session with Duke follows the show. It’s part of an ongoing monthly series by the Guthrie Theater and Black Minneapolis actors. The series runs through May, with a new show each month. St. Paul-based ghostwriter Dave Walbridge recommended art that makes him happy during the pandemic: the Facebook concerts by Minneapolis singer-songwriter Ann Reed. Walbridge describes Reed’s musical style as “folk, alt rock. …she’s like a camp counselor who knows all the words to everything and you just want to sing along.” Reed has adapted to the pandemic by hosting bi-weekly concerts titled “Live from Somewhere in Her House” as well as monthly singalongs with Twin Cities pianist Dan Chouinard. The next singalong is at 7 p.m. Monday, followed by a performance at 7 p.m. on Jan. 21. Both stream through Facebook.

Jeyca Maldonado-Medina co-hosts the podcast “Tuesdays with Lazerbeak” and she’s feeling for all the bands that have had to cancel their shows. In particular, she’s been listening to “Gully Boys,” a self-described “boy band” made up of three non-boys who know how to rock. While their tour has been canceled, you can still listen to them on Spotify and other music platforms, and they’ll be performing live on Saturday on Facebook with NUR-D. What do you do when your puppet show’s been canceled? Turn it into a radio show! Ghost writer David Walbridge is impressed with how Z Puppets Rosenschnoz quickly converted their puppet show into a webcast “radio” show. He says it works because theater — in all its forms — is really about your imagination. “Through the Narrows” weaves together the stories a Cherokee boy travelling the Trail of Tears and a 3500-year-old Jewish woman crossing the Red Sea. Walbridge says their experiences navigating these “narrow” spaces are a fitting metaphor for our time. Angelique Powers teaches scenic art at the University of Minnesota, and admits she spends way too much time on Facebook. But it was on Facebook she discovered St. Joseph potter Joel Cherrico. She says she’s become a big fan of Cherrico’s live streams, where he invites you into his studio to watch while he throws pots. Powers says he makes it looks easy, and she finds watching him work mesmerizing and relaxing. Follow him on Facebook at Cherrico Pottery to get notifications when he’s streaming.

In this episode In spite of feeling uncomfortable and somewhat afraid she still decided to be my guest and for that I am truly grateful. Thank you Jen We had an easy going discussion, amongst other things, about how she tried to keep peace in what she called a 'chaotic household'! What is your number one surviving skill? What is your go to emotion when you feel threatened? What are you still doing now, today, in this moment that does not serve you any longer? Is it comfortable for you to play a role? Or has it become exhausting? How does your body speak to you? Do you listen to the cues that your body gives you? Last but not least my difficulty with the word 'authenticity'. Do you find joy in being authentically you? Finally a wonderful insight from Jen which is almost at the end of the conversation. Wait for it. I invite you to listen and if you feel that someone could benefit from these conversations please feel free to share them. Definitely worth a listen, even if I say so myself ;) If you would love to be a guest, or if you know someone who would be a great guest, please get in touch via email, or send me a personal message. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/diane-xuereb/message

John Rakolta, Jr., Chairman & CEO of Walbridge, and Doug Rothwell, President & CEO of Business Leaders for Michigan, addressed the Detroit Economic Club on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, and discussed what needs to be done to make Michigan a ‘Top Ten’ state. “We are at a crossroads,” said Rothwell. “Michigan has come a long way since 2009 and the Great Recession, we were hit probably harder than any other state. The reality is that though we have come back a lot in these last 5-10 years, the fact is that we still are about average, or slightly below average, on a lot of the indicators that matter most.” Rakolta stressed that in order to become a 'Top Ten' state, reforms need to be made to education, infrastructure and importantly, regional transit. "Education is one, infrastructure is two and if you want to include that (regional transit) as part of infrastructure, then it is the number two issue that we have," said Rakolta.
