This week on Startup to Storefront, we're joined by Lindsey Johnson, cofounder and CEO of Weezie, the brand redefining what it means to treat yourself with truly elevated bath essentials. It all started when her longtime friend Liz had a lackluster experience searching for luxury towels. Newly married and recently moved, she couldn't believe how underwhelming the options were—so she called Lindsey. Together, they set out to modernize the linen market, and after years of research, they launched Weezie: plush, absorbent, and meticulously crafted towels and robes made in Portugal and finished by hand in Atlanta.   On this week's episode you'll learn: • How Lindsey and Liz went from friends to cofounders • What it takes to build a product that actually lives up to the hype • Why resilience and critical thinking are key to scaling a startup

Les, Kurt, and Jason finally start the show on their fourth try only to immediately get sidetracked talking about Haley Joel Osment's arrest and Jason's VERY unpopular opinions about The Breakfast Club. Then Kurt reveals that he's made some progress with his quest to get Natalia Grace on the show (something Les is fully onboard with, too). In Blac Chyna news, Tokio Toni really just wants to make some beats, so she opens up her home and it doesn't end well. Then, it's time to set the table for Hallmark's Hearts Around the Table: Kiki's Fourth Ingredient, a movie which doesn't feature Edith from All and the Family or Weezie from the Jeffersons but does feature Natalie from The Facts of Life (Mindy Cohn). Have yourself a snack, whether that's Kurt's Tater Tot Casserole, some disgusting chocolate zucchini muffins, or some popcorn immediately after giving yourself a manicure.    Bluesky: lifetimeofhallmark Facebook : lifetimeofhallmark Instagram : lifetimeofhallmarkpodcast Threads: lifetimeofhallmarkpodcast TikTok: lifetimeofhallmarkpod Theme song generously donated by purple-planet.com

On this week's episode, Ariel is joined by the duo behind Weezie Towels, Liz Eichholz and Lindsey Johnson. Launched in 2018, Weezie Towels is not only our favorite brand for gorgeous towels, but also a true embodiment of a modern, luxury direct to consumer brand with a big heart. Weezie's origin story is the stuff of lore: Newly married, Liz had a lackluster experience looking for embroidered towels. She approached her long-time friend Lindsey, and the two agreed that there was a gap in the market. They hit the ground running to modernize this niche space, eventually introducing the world to Weezie. Liz, Weezie's Creative Director, was born and raised in Austin, Texas. After receiving a BFA in graphic design from the University of Georgia, she spent five years in New York working in creative, including at Uncommon Goods and Bustle before moving to Savannah, GA with her husband and three children. Managing the business side, CEO Lindsey spent her childhood with stops around the US, before attending Vanderbilt for undergrad, and then Columbia Business School. She spent almost a decade in New York City, before planting roots in Atlanta with her husband and three children. With fifteen years of friendship, and over five years at Weezie (plus six kids between the two of them!), Liz and Lindsey constantly inspire us here, and hopefully you too, as you listen in on the conversation about entrepreneurship in the design world.—Start your own collection of Weezie Towels: https://weezietowels.com/ and use the code TALKSHOP15 for 15% off your entire order. I am so super excited to share my most recent podcast with Lindsey Johnson, co-founder and CEO of one of my most favorite brands - Weezie Towels. Lindsey tells us the story of how she and her co-founder Liz built Weezie Towels into one of the fastest growing luxury towel brands and has won the support and like from people like Gwentyth Paltrow and Reese Witherspoon. But just like any start up story, it took an incredible amount of hard work, grit and perseverance to get to where they are today. In our conversation, we start at the very beginning where Lindsey tells us about her career in the financial industry in NYC where she was on track to end up in venture capital. However, while at Columbia Business School, her best friend Liz approached her about starting a towel company. Lindsey was skeptical at first but after a year and half of customer research and product development, Lindsey agreed with Liz that there was a hole in the market. They officially launched Weezie Towels in 2018 and were off to the races. Fast forward almost 5 years, they have hit several major milestones such as opening their first brick and mortar in Atlanta, growing their team to 60 people and expanding into other products such as bath robes, baby towels, and beach towels. I can't wait for you all to learn more about their inspiring story. And before we dive into the interview, Lindsey was kind enough to provide the listeners with a 15% discount off weezie towel purchases – you can use the code HighFive15

This is it, the end of the Loners....well, sort of. We still have a couple more appearances of this team, but this is the final issue of this crazy run, so we should reflect on what we have learned. I think we can say that this series is not complete, and is a little strange. It was experimental and challenging, and unexpected. And whether you like it or not, you have to appreciate the ambition of it's creators. Experiments are not always successful, but they can be interesting. So what failed in this series. Probably some of the re-characterization of Julie. You can see some of the characterization that Weezie originally conceived, but there are some changes that are uncomfortable. She is an underage woman who has been sexualized. While I am glad that it is not more than just the eye candy view, and her response to being attacked was great, it still felt strange. Speaking of which, there was a definite effort to make this more of a teen+ book with the more adult themes. More relationships, discussions of addiction and trauma, and sex. There is a lot of meat that the creators where sewing into the story in order to build a future story. They just did not make it. I would not punch this series and call it bad. I would say that the series is not for everyone, and it is not complete. But I want to recognize some of the great beats the story provided, and the discussion we had. And it is always about the journey....right? Sometimes we read some content that leaves us feeling a couple of different ways, possibly fighting feelings about how we will land on the material. That can be good. It is always helpful to challenge the status quo. We need some growth and change...and we need to see two Darkhawks beat each other up. We are going to see these cats in a a few more issues, but this is the end of The Loners series. An awesome product is table stakes': Weezie co-founder Lindsey Johnson on building a luxury bath brand

The key to DTC towel brand Weezie's success is staying in its lane -- or, bathroom. That's according to co-founder Lindsey Johnson who joined this week's Modern Retail Podcast. The company, which makes luxury bath towels along with other bathroom-related products like bathrobes and bathmats, has seen year-over-year growth and said late last year that it was on track to hit eight figures in revenue in 2021. "The bath towel is the hero product of Weezie, and we are going to stay in that world," Johnson said. According to Johnson, what has helped Weezie grow is the company's relatively conservative approach to growth. Other than a seed round, Weezie has remained bootstrapped -- and it's been very intentional about every expansion or new sales channel into which it's dived. Some of that is because of the very nature of the business. Weezie offers custom embroidered towels -- all of which are made and fulfilled in its own U.S.-based facility. Scaling such an operation is difficult, to say the least. "[Wholesale] is something we've always struggled with... because customization is such a big part of the business," she said. "While, of course, our products are wonderful on their own, it doesn't tell the whole story." Now, thanks to growth from the last few years, Johnsons is trying to figure out how to grow these channels while remaining true to Weezie's roots. Meanwhile, she's also trying to figure out where to expand to next geographically. Weezie currently has one store in Atlanta, which she says has been a successful sales driver and brand booster. With that, Johnson is also thinking about opening more stores, but added "it's not in the near-term roadmap." Put together, Johnson has big plans for the next few months -- but is also trying to make sure Weezie stays by its North Star. "I think it's a big year of just investing in the future," she said.

You can guess which of the gals is on that mission) and how to nail the high-low fashion dream we're all striving for. (Target dresses forever! But, with a touch of luxe!!)

In this week's episode, we had the pleasure of speaking with Leah Craig Fieser, Executive Director at Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. In honor of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day we are interviewing Leah Craig Fieser, the Executive Director of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville, NC. We invited Leah to speak with us about her team as one of our goals is to bring awareness to adopting senior pets, and chose Brother Wolf, as I adopted my senior pup, Weezie from their rescue in 2019.    Weezie was a bit older than 10 years old at the time, but still has the energy of a 6-year-old :)   I am dedicated to raising awareness about adopting senior pets as they have often, like Weezie, been in family homes for many years, and adjusting to a shelter can be difficult. While they may come with unique needs, animal rescues and shelters can work with you to find the right match for you and your family, and a senior pet can be a wonderful companion -  I know my senior pup has been a welcome addition to the family.  Show Highlights  1)  Leah speaks to how she has helped build communication channels and fostered feedback from all key stakeholders (17:42) 2)  How Leah and the team have managed change while fostering their organizational culture (27:29) 3) Creating the line of sight from an individual's role to the broader vision and strategy. Hear how diverse communication actions implemented as small steps help build a stronger communication process over time. (33:46) 4) Mapping your ecosystem - how does Brother Wolf partner with other organizations to amplify their shared mission of animal welfare. There are a lot of variables to consider. - Keep your marketing cohesive. Starting a business can be daunting. There are a lot of factors to consider, and there isn't always a clear answer.
