Samantha Coffin is a wellness + mindset coach focused on helping women go from a life full of symptoms to a life full of living. As a child, Samantha personally struggled with health + wellness. She doesn't have many memories where she wasn't sick. Yet the various doctors she saw had few answers and many told her that her experiences were “normal”. After FINALLY being diagnosed with Celiac Disease, Lyme Disease, and Endometriosis she decided to take her health into her own hands. She got her master's in Gender + Women Studies + became a certified health coach! When Samantha finally received her diagnosis, it was a sense of relief and dread at the same time. You  have an answer but if you know anything about lyme, endo or celiac, you have it for life as it is a chronic illness. We begin to discuss her wellness journey in working with her doctors and how she needed to find her own path because Western medicine didn't have a solution.  Samantha had to trust her own intuition and began to assemble her own wellness team. She goes on to share some of the protocols that she found to help her with these inflammatory conditions. Samantha also talks about her diet and the foods she has eliminated which have helped her overall wellness. She doesn't think of this as deprivation of foods.   Sammantha instead chooses not to experience those symptoms any longer.  What a great way of thinking turning your thinking of deprivation  to self care!  It was on this journey that Samantha realized that this is what she is supposed to be doing  and started getting her certifications! She started supporting friends and family and then took on clients.   Then in 2019, Samantha walked away from a job that was pulling her apart and didn't resonate with her anymore so she began to explore her next chapter! She then started working with a functional practitioner in her office and received her certification as a health coach. It was then that she knew that this was where she was meant to be! Even though she may have moments of self doubts she remembers her own journey and reminds herself that she is doing this because “no one should have to struggle for over 20 years!”.   We then go on to discuss how her living in alignment with her passion and purpose has changed her life!  She provides us some beautiful insight on what that looks like for her every day!  Don't we all deserve this same beauty?  We also talk about what it's like to dive feet first into your passion full time. Samantha shares some things that have  helped her on this journey of going all in full-time in her new career.   Samantha then goes on to share some stories about the healing journey of some of her clients.  Which was very inspiring!  We go on to discuss Samantha's blog and how she aspires to have a cookbook someday and has a lot of fun recipes on her site for her community!  She started to create these recipes out of necessity because she didn't want to eat the “fake stuff”.  One of her first was Vegan Mac and Cheese Samantha then goes on to share that the Maple Tahini Cookies are very popular on her site  Samantha goes on to remind us that if you don't prioritize your wellness now then you'll be forced to prioritize your illness later! Oti Mabuse is the first professional to win the competition two years in a row. Next year, she is going on tour with her new show ‘I AM HERE', which explores her journey from growing up in South Africa, to becoming a multi-award winning dancer. The increase in domestic abuse during the pandemic has been widely reported. The charity Family Rights Group works to keep children safe in their families and advise parents whose children are in need, at risk or in care, and support kinship carers raising children. Their chief executive, Cathy Ashley, confirms that rise and says that domestic abuse is now the most common reason given by callers to their free advice line as to why social workers have become involved with their family. She also explains why grandparents so frequently become kinship carers in these situations. Quarry Bank cotton mill stands on the outskirts of Manchester, it is now a National Trust property . It features in a play called The Whip by Juliet Gilkes Romero a new audio version of which is now available on the Royal Shakespeare Company’s YouTube channel. The play tells the story of the cover-up of the death of a child working at the mill. Louise Adamson went to Quarry Bank back in 2017 to see an exhibition about the lives of the women and children who worked there and the songs they sang as the worked. Samantha Evans is West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service’s first female whole time firefighter. When Samantha joined the service in 1990, there were no female shower facilities on station, and no other women in the team. Samantha is now retiring, after 30 years of service. Parents can sometimes get so wrapped up in caring for their children that they lose their own identity. This can become a problem once the children leave home, and the parent suffers from empty nest syndrome. My guest today is a life coach, corporate wellness practitioner, and facilitator of special programs to help us become happy or regain our happiness. Samantha Lewis was so inspired from hearing a motivational speaker years ago, that she now travels the world coaching and helping others. While working with clients, she discovered that empty nest syndrome was a problem for many. She now works with clients and gives them the tools to discover what makes them happy and brings the fun and joy back into their lives. She also shares tools and questions to help improve communication and start living in the present. Show Notes [04:53] Samantha was inspired by a motivational speaker that she heard years ago. She decided that she also wanted to do that. [06:08] Samantha became a single mom, and she wanted to add things to her life to be what she could for her children and still be there for herself. [07:25] She kept exploring what else was out there in life. She used self-help and healing to bring all she could to her children. [08:21] She searched, so she wouldn't be lost in being all she could for her children. [09:32] When she started coaching clients, she discovered parents started questioning what their lives were about when the kids started leaving. This was especially hard for people with only one child. [11:05] She started asking people questions, so that they could re-engage with who they were. They needed to see the change as an opportunity not a void. [12:10] Having something missing can affect a marriage. [13:24] Wives can ask husbands what is going on for them almost as if it's a reflection of what's going on for the wife. [15:41] Strategies to avoid empty nest syndrome. [16:00] Find a way to stay connected to things that you find fun. Start doing this right away and add one fun thing each day. [17:23] Be willing to ask for and receive help. Team up with other moms, so you don't have to do everything yourself. [19:16] By teaming up you find solutions that you wouldn't have thought of on your own. [24:15] What helps keep Samantha motivated is when she actually helps people, and they let her know how much she has changed their lives. [25:57] There is a difference between listening and active listening. [26:52] When Samantha begins to feel stress, she stops and asks herself, "what is really going on here and is it mine." She also takes walks in nature or plays with her cats. She also asks what she can do to change it. [30:22] Stress can be turned into energy to use for something positive. [32:25] Samantha doesn't really see her work as work. It nourishes her and it's fun. [34:16] The Being You Adventures are about having a space where people can come and get a sense of what being really is. It helps reconnect people with who they are and bring more of who they are into everything that they do. [38:02] Some of the challenges that Samantha encounters with her work are that people want to see something tangible. Because of this, she tries to be an example and role model. [39:06] Being happy is a choice. It's really about asking yourself is this fun for me, and if it's not fun, look for something that you can add to make it fun. Miranda takes Steve shopping for his wardrobe but has a taste he cannot afford and yet won't allow her to pick up the bill, even if that breaks them up. Carrie is insecure again when Big takes her to a socialite party on Park Avenue but never seems able to express his love, and therefore she goes out with an artistic flirt without means she find waitering there."Thanks for listening! School For The Dogs' clients Samantha Schwartz and Ben Ment wanted to find a mixed-breed Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, figuring that it'd be less prone to health issues than a purebred Bernese. When Samantha's email inquiries to breeders got posted to social media, she ended up being cyber bullied by hardcore breed enthusiasts/purists around the world. Samantha tells Annie about how this unexpected and bizarre turn of events led her and Ben to Basket, a puppy from the Bernese Mountain Dog Vitality Project, which is run by breeders and geneticists who are working to help modify the breed for the better over time. Studio: SchoolForThedogs.com Shop: StoreForTheDogs.com Instagram: Instagram.com/schoolforthedogs --- Partial Transcript: Annie: I'm here with our clients. I should say clients, plural. I am here with our human client, Samantha Schwartz, and her dog are the canine client of this team. Oh, who's giving her a big hug right now. Who’s name is Basket and he is this huge, deliciously, lovely black and furry. Just big galoot of a dog who I wish I had a life-sized stuffed animal of that I could just snuggle and cuddle all day long. He looks like a Bernese Mountain Dog. He is not totally a Burmese mountain dog, which we're going to talk about in a moment. And when I first met Samantha and her partner, Ben, they started to tell me about how Basket came into their lives. And I was fascinated. **music** Samantha: I had always wanted a Bernese Mountain dog. I had grown up with labs and retrievers and Ben grew up with a Norwegian Elkhound and a Chinook. We were kind of like, I was just dead set on having a Bernese Mountain Dog. We were living out in Cape Cod, getting his family's house together last spring, just temporarily. And we were like, well, let's get the dog ‘ause it'll be easy to train the dog while we're out here. We have some time. So last year, we started more seriously looking at Berneses again, and he thought that it would be better if we maybe looked at getting a mixed breed. We were looking at all the rescues, there’s a lot of Bernese rescue organizations. And then we were, we were looking at just different options. And finally we ended up saying, why don't we see about getting a mixed breed, something that is part Bernese. Annie: You were said you were worried about the health issues. Samantha: So Bernese Mountain Dogs have, being one of the giant... they're one of the giant breed dogs, um, similar to great Danes and Saint Bernard's. So they can be up to 150 pounds, females on average weigh between I think 90 and 110, and then the males can weigh much more than that. Because they're a giant breed they have some joint issues and things like that because of their bones, but they also have a particular type of cancer that is really, really prevalent in their breed. They are dying really young. They're very... purebred dogs in general are very inbred. They have what's called closed studbooks and the close studbooks mean that they kind of all ended up being cousins with each other. And because of that, their genetic diversity is leading to many health problems... Full Transcript available at SchoolfortheDogs.com/Podcasts

Mission #37 On Board: Samantha Pilbeam Mission: Attracting Dream Relationships and a Dream Life The Co-Pilot: Our co-pilot on this episode is the lovely Samantha Pilbeam, a businesswoman and entrepreneur who manifested her dream life -- and even her ideal partner -- through the Law of Attraction and following a continuing path of self-improvement. Samantha, who lives in the UK with her partner Greg, was once stuck in a life characterized by low self-esteem and unhealthy relationships. Using various tools and techniques, she crafted a better life for herself and became the happy, fulfilled, successful woman she is today. Thanks to her own life experiences, she’s passionate about helping others and making the world a better place. That’s what she’s here to do today. In this episode, you’ll learn all about how she manifested her ideal life, and the daily steps you can take to do the same. As Orion puts it, “Your vibration needs to match the life you want.” Connect With Samantha Pilbeam:samanthapilbeam@me.com The Mission Log: [05:11] - Samantha shares a bit about herself, including where she lives and a broad overview of her relationship with her partner. [05:50] - We learn about Samantha’s history of being attracted to men who weren’t right for her, or drawn into dysfunctional relationships. [06:16] - Samantha’s first role models were her parents, who had a dysfunctional relationship. She describes their differences. [07:03] - The type of men who Samantha attracted (and was attracted to) were very similar to her father. [07:44] - Are women going to the wrong places to find love? Samantha indirectly answers that via her own life story. [08:27] - Samantha describes her previous life at the time that she started to realize she needed to make a change, around ten years ago. [09:31] - What was the void, and what was the catalyst for change? [10:24] - The moment that made Samantha realized she really needed a change was when her then-partner punched her in the face. Orion and Samantha discuss how sometimes it takes painful moments to make you realize you need change, and they can be a gift in disguise. [12:14] - At the time, Samantha’s friends and family provided a support group for her. [13:35] - Samantha reflects on her previous relationships, pointing out that what she then thought was “love” wasn’t really love, and that low self-esteem contributed to her decisions. [16:02] - We hear more about Samantha’s life before she learned how to love herself. [17:10] - If you come from a lineage of being treated unkindly, it’s up to you to stand up and change that tradition, Orion explains. [17:39] - Samantha agrees with Orion’s explanation, then applies the same concept to the relation with money. She explores the difference between having a lot of money and experiencing abundance. [18:46] - Samantha opened a beauty business during the middle of the recession, and discovered breathwork and rebirthing around that same time. [19:35] - She describes the experience of doing rebirthing, and how much it can vary from time to time. She also tells us a bit about the self-discoveries that she made this way. [21:10] - Samantha discusses how often she did breathwork, and the three different modules in which she did it. [21:57] - Breathwork isn’t just motivational; it involves a lot of work, dealing with a lot of pain. Samantha noticed that after doing breathwork, she started to love herself more. [23:13] - We hear about how Samantha used breathwork and meditation to help overcome her issues surrounding money. Darius Barazandeh helped her with this. [24:23] - Samantha tells us about the men who started showing up in her life after she started doing breathwork and changing herself. [25:39] - True masculinity doesn’t need to take stereotypically masculine forms. For Samantha, true masculinity is a man who treats a woman like a goddess. [26:34] - The man who Samantha is currently with is exactly what she wrote down when she did her manifesting. We also hear about her previous relationship. [27:42] - Several years earlier, Samantha had taken a Law of Attraction course by Tony Robbins (but in her case, led by Joseph McClendon). She stopped for a while after being freaked out by how quickly she started attracting things into her life. [30:10] - At the time, she explains, she wasn’t ready to receive the life she wanted. Part of her wanted to stay in “suffering mode” because that was the life she was used to. [31:14] - When Samantha next used the Law of Attraction, after having done the breathwork, she was ready to receive. She was also ready for the element of surrender that it required. [32:08] - Orion steps in for a moment to explain what she means by “surrender.” [32:55] - Samantha agrees with Orion’s description, and goes on to explain that her fear was also part of what led to her being in those unhealthy relationships. [33:33] - How did Samantha find Mr. Right? [35:30] - How did she start believing in the Law of Attraction in a way that allowed her to manifest the things she had written on her list? [36:18] - Samantha took about 15 to 20 minutes every morning for her exercise in believing in the Law of Attraction. [37:00] - By the end of the two weeks Samantha took to make herself believe in the Law of Attraction, she let go of the idea because she believed in it so fully that she just knew it would work. She set up a Meetup group several months later, and her partner Greg showed up at the first meeting. [38:10] - Samantha tells us about how she and Greg started dating, and how she realized that he was “the one” for her. [40:22] - What has Samantha done to keep the love alive (and the relationship healthy) after the initial sparks of the relationship wore off? [41:54] - In a successful relationship, both parties take responsibility for their own happiness rather than trying to find it in their partner. [43:48] - Samantha’s three tips for living a stellar life are: appreciate what you have and show gratitude, give yourself love, and give back to people and the world. [44:20] - Samantha offers listeners a gift: her husband Greg is an NLP (neuro linguistic programming) trainer, and they’re offering two listeners a free NLP course early next year (January 4-10 in the Lake District in the UK). Flights and accommodation are not included, but the course is free. To enter, write Samantha a short email about why you think you should be picked and explaining your path and how this will help you (and how you will help the world). Send this to her at samanthapilbeam@me.com. Your Pre-Flight Checklist: Pain can be a catalyst for change. Write down three recent life events that have been painful (or issues that continue to cause you pain), and then, for each one, three ways that you can turn that pain into positive change. Every morning, look in the mirror and take five minutes to practice valuing yourself. Tell yourself “I love you,” and look for the beauty reflected in the mirror -- focusing on both your internal and external beauty. We all want more money, but money doesn’t create a sense of abundance. Take ten minutes each day for a month to start a gratitude journal. Explore the forms of abundance that you do have in your life. Links and Resources: Darius BarazandehBreathwork RebirthingTony RobbinsLaw of AttractionJoseph McClendonNLPVision board
