#356 Gravity - Rich has had what he thought might be the most middle class accident, but he is wrong. His guest is a listener who has won a competition to be on the show, the Dorian Grey of morning TV, Ben Shephard. They discuss how science proves Ben a better singer than a West End star, whether there's a man with a broom behind the Tipping Point machine, revenge as a dish served very cold, why Rich was fired from morning television, how Ben's charity work found him at Buckingham Palace and what Richard had to do for the same invitation, feeling up Julie Walters, plus a classic emergency question and Ben turning the tables and asking some stuff about testicles that he might not do on morning telly.SUPPORT THE SHOW!Support the CAN I HAVE MY BALL BACK KICKSTARTERWatch our TWITCH CHANNELBecome a badger and see extra content at our WEBSITESee details of the RHLSTP TOUR DATESBuy DVDs and Books from GO FASTER STRIPE Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/rhlstp.

We are five days until the election and we accept that some of you may still need to make up your mind, but please, PLEASE, don't let a political ad (or mailer) help with that decision. To quote our uncles at Thanksgiving, "Do Your Own Research". Then Speaker of the House and Dorian Grey poster child Mike Johnson had some very blunt things to say regarding the upcoming session of the house, if the GOP wins. Then Michelle Velasquez from Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin joins the show and we talk about the last days of the election and what they are doing to get the message out to the voters. The Picture of Dorian Gray Book Dark Desires :The Fatal Attraction of Beauty"The Picture of Dorian Gray" is a novel written by Oscar Wilde, published in 1890. It tells the story of a young man named Dorian Gray, who is portrayed as incredibly handsome and charming. The novel follows his journey as he becomes increasingly corrupt and indulges in a hedonistic lifestyle. As Dorian's sins begin to show on his face, he realizes that his portrait, which was painted by an artist named Basil Hallward, has remained unchanged, capturing all of his vices and aging instead of him. The novel explores themes such as vanity, morality, and the consequences of one's actions. What is the picture of Dorian GREY all about?"The Picture of Dorian Gray" is a novel written by Oscar Wilde and published in 1890. The story is about a young, beautiful man named Dorian Gray who becomes obsessed with his own youth and beauty. Dorian Gray meets an artist named Basil Hallward, who paints a portrait of him that captures his youth and beauty. Dorian becomes so obsessed with the idea of staying young and beautiful forever that he makes a wish that he could stay young and have the portrait age instead of himself. As time passes, Dorian engages in a life of hedonism and debauchery while his portrait reflects the physical and moral decay of his soul. Dorian's obsession with beauty and youth leads him down a path of corruption and ultimately, his own downfall. The novel explores themes such as morality, corruption, narcissism, and the consequences of living a life purely based on pleasure and vanity. It is considered a masterpiece of English literature and a classic example of Gothic horror fiction. Why is The Picture of Dorian Gray a banned book? The Picture of Dorian Gray, a novel by Oscar Wilde, has been banned at various times and in different countries for its controversial content. The main reasons for its banning include: Immorality: The book was considered immoral because it deals with themes such as homosexuality, promiscuity, and drug use. Profanity: The book contains profanity and vulgar language that some people found offensive. Blasphemy: Some religious groups found the book blasphemous because it challenged traditional concepts of morality and religion. Obscenity: The book was also considered obscene because of its graphic descriptions of sexual acts and drug use. Overall, The Picture of Dorian Gray was considered too controversial and provocative for society's moral standards at the time of its publication in 1890. However, today it is widely regarded as a masterpiece of English literature and an important work in the history of LGBTQ+ literature. Can a 13 year old read The Picture of Dorian Gray? The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde is generally considered a novel for adults and contains mature themes such as vanity, hedonism, and homosexuality. While the book may be challenging to fully comprehend for a 13-year-old, it ultimately depends on their maturity level and reading comprehension skills. Parents or guardians may want to review the book before allowing their child to read it and have a discussion about the themes presented in the book. Additionally, adult supervision during the reading process may help provide context and answer any questions the child may have. Ultimately, the decision to allow a 13-year-old to read The Picture of Dorian Gray should be made on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the child's maturity level and the family's values and beliefs.

"My Dad & the Movies" is a ten-part series where Nate and his father, George, discuss a movie of his father's choice, maybe a favorite or a formative work that made him the cinephile he is, and father and son can talk about their shared love of the movies. Next is 1945's "The Portrait of Dorian Grey" based upon the story by Oscar Wilde and featuring a young Angela Lansbury. Available on Spotify and Apple
This week, we're taking a look at the (debatable) "first chronicle book for the World of Darkness", Immortal Eyes: The Toybox (not to be confused with its tie-in novel, The Toybox) (things gets complicated sometimes). The first in a trilogy of game supplements that follows the oathmates of the Immortal Eyes storyline, this is primarily a Kithain's guide to San Francisco and the Bay Area, with a few stories baked in that STs can run for their group. Although a lot of the setting information has been superseded in the last 25 years—and much of it is freely available online—there is enough depth of detail and hooks to grab onto for current groups to find some use. We highlight some of the bits we find most useful in this episode, so... give a listen! ... tourism One topic that came up early on in our discussion is tourism with relation to Glamour and Banality. Could a visitor to San Francisco seeing the Golden Gate Bridge for the first time generate Glamour, or does it simply add to Banality, flattening the rich tapestry of the city into icons to be checked off a list? Is it both, or neither? Does it depend entirely on the tourist, or possibly the landmark? There aren't any hard and fast answers in the books (that we can think of at the moment), but it's an interesting avenue of thought to wander down. As always, it raises the question of the relativity of Glamour and Banality, and might demonstrate that while Glamour is volatile, ephemeral, localized, and situational, Banality is more numbing, creeping, spreading, and generalized. We'll keep an eye out for other bits in the books that give more substance to this discussion, since it would be significant for groups running their game in a major city with lots of visitors. (Lookin' at you, NYC.) ... shameless self-promotion Late last year, Pooka published this homebrew Changeling book! It was simultaneously written to be an homage to this supplement, an update to some of the setting, a clunky pun, and an excuse for coming up with selkie business (since they make their first appearance in this book). It's available on Storyteller's Vault here: https://www.storytellersvault.com/product/375875/. Proceeds go to the medical fund for Nicky Rea, Changeling author emerita, so please consider having a browse and a purchase for a good cause.

Rupert Everett sits down with HFPA journalist Barbara de Oliveira Pinto to discuss his relationship with Oscar Wilde, from starring in films and plays like The Picture of Dorian Grey, The Ideal Husband, and The Importance of Being Earnest to his latest effort, starring as Wilde in his directorial debut "The Happy Prince". He also discusses his relationship with his family, the challenges of making his first film, the role his sexuality has played in his life, Scarelett Johansson and more.
