What was the last wellness technique you tried out? Did it live up to your expectations? Most of us know what it's like to chase our health and happiness in endless supplements and fitness programs, but somehow we never actually take a close look at what we've already got to work with. Samantha Skelly is a 7-figure entrepreneur, sought-after international speaker, best-selling author, and wellness coaching expert. She founded both Hungry for Happiness, a movement that helps people experience true transformation and happiness through trained certified coaches who utilize emotional and energetic coaching techniques, and PAUSE Breathwork, which has a mission to unite humanity by helping people breathe, feel, and thrive. She has shared her mission on an international platform and continues to spread her message and transform the lives of tens of thousands of people through her programs, worldwide international retreats, motivational speaking engagements, the popular Hungry for Happiness podcast, and her best-selling Hay House book, Hungry For Happiness. On this episode of the Abundantly Clear podcast, Samantha and Malorie pull back the curtain on what breathwork does in our bodies, minds and spirits, the continuous work that goes into discovering who we actually are within ourselves, and the work that goes into building a relationship between partners who are committed to growing together. You’ll Learn   Why the practice of breathwork seems foreign to us, and how we became disconnected from it in the first place What we gain when we deconstruct all the things we’ve built to make ourselves feel safe in our own lives How Samantha’s discovery of breath work helped her heal her relationship with food and her own body (and how you can access that same healing)   And much more! Favorite Quote “Breathwork allows us to really connect with this higher self, gives us access to it. You know, I think a lot of people will choose plant medicine because they want access to that vibration or that feeling. But then, you know, the other flip of the coin there is like they're always trying to get back to that, like I'm addicted to that feeling. But what we really don't realize is, that is that feeling. Like, you are your own drug, you are your own medicine.”  - Samantha Skelly  Connect with Samantha: Samanthaskelly.com  Instagram How to get involved Malorie has become an expert in helping people remove their mindset blocks, so they can experience the growth in their business and decrease in stress they desire. “Quote.” - Samantha Clarke - Creativity requires the courage for you to let go of certainties and I believe that we can all make changes when we identify how we want our lives to be and how we want our work to shape who we are. I think we have to be willing to dissect the things that are working in our lives and the value that we want to provide.  And I think we have to treat work and life as a series of experiments, playing with different concepts, playing with different journeys and being open to learning about what that teaches you about yourself, and the other people in your life and in your network and at work. Hey friends, have you heard of Raddish? It’s a super cool monthly cooking club that empowers kids to build confidence in the kitchen and beyond. Today’s guest, Samantha Barnes the CEO and founder of Raddish, founded the company after working as a middle school teacher. A mom of two, Samantha realized the kitchen was the best place to connect with her kids in a meaningful way, and in true entrepreneurship fashion, she was inspired to start her own company. Samantha’s passion for family is visible in every aspect of her company. As a female founder, she is committed to running results-oriented and flexible company built on autonomy, working smart, and a positive work/life balance.  On today’s episode, Samantha and I dive into her subscription based business model and how it has evolved over time. The two of us talk about her business journey, how the company started out of her garage, how her team has evolved, the logistics of getting her product to market. We also talk about the pros and cons of running a subscription based business, how she learned how to delegate, what she does when she’s feeling burnt out.    ON TODAY’S EPISODE:  How Samantha got the idea for Raddish Why she decided to go with a subscription model  The benefits of growing slow and working by trial and error  Creating continuous content and dealing with unexpected hurdles The steps Samantha took to scale up   Her decision to keep her team lean and mean  How Raddish cultivates the customer experience Learning to delegate when it’s not your strength Avoiding shiny distractions for the long term goal Lessons Samantha learned in her business journey Two things she does to stay grounded in the chaos  KEY TAKE-AWAYS:   “We did not go into it having some large strategy. We learned by doing. We launched on Kickstarter in October and we shipped our first kit in January.” - Samantha Barnes "In the beginning, we were simply finding the right tool and trying to get the right quantity and have it delivered at the right time. And now we're able to go out and we custom-create our tools.” - Samantha Barnes “I live in a small house in Los Angeles. So it had its own challenges. We would have easy ups all throughout the backyard and our production line had to go out into the backyard because we couldn't fit in the garage anymore.” - Samantha Barnes “Because we are self-funded we are really careful about how we grow. Making sure we have the great product, making sure that we're minimizing our churn and really keeping members for longer is important.” - Samantha Barnes “It’s a critical growth step as an entrepreneur. It's like, okay, I need to start delegating more and releasing control so that we can grow and so that we can get more done in a day.” - Katie Hunt “We call our Facebook group users the Raddish army because they come to bat for us, you know, they really want to help families understand exactly how great the product is.” - Samantha Barnes “We're definitely a word of mouth product and started that way, and that is definitely how we got off the ground.” - Samantha Barnes “Delegating is not my strength, it's something I have had to learn and I continue to learn.” - Samantha Barnes “I have the right people in the right seats and I just have the expectation that somebody is going to get that done and I don't micromanage or oversee the process.” - Samantha Barnes “My whole motivation was hiring people that were smarter than me that could teach me things. Take the tasks, run with them, and I trust them to do it well and do what we need to head towards the goal.” - Katie Hunt  “Learning from others and being open to learning and talking to as many people as you can and experiencing as many opportunities is really important. That’s the big picture idea.”  - Samantha Barnes “I mean, I love baths and manicures and pedicures, but if I have free time, I’m thinking what can I do that's really going to inspire me and make me feel better and make me kind of reset. Reading has been a big one for me over the last couple of years because it does feel indulgent too.” - Katie Hunt  LINKS Website: http://Raddishkids.com Facebook: http://facebook.com/raddishkids Facebook group: http://facebook.com/groups/raddishfoodandfamily/ Instagram: http://instagram.com/raddishkids    SUBSCRIBE To subscribe on iOS, go to the iTunes page and subscribe to Proof to Product. Over Coffee® | Stories and Resources from the Intersection of Art and Science | Exploring How to Make STEAM Work For You

(Photo courtesy of Samantha Razook Murphy/Curious Jane, and used with permission.) Sparkly slime and twinkly wearables seem like cool girls' DIY projects . But, as Curious Jane founder Samantha Razook Murphy is proving, they're also a whole  lot more. Curious Jane, which Samantha founded in 2008, is a programming and content provider for girls, ages six through eleven.  And through summer camps, after-school workshops and birthday parties, Samantha and her staff are using science, engineering and design to teach girls to become confident makers.   (Photo courtesy of Samantha Razook Murphy/Curious Jane, and used with permission.) Samantha, who is a Brooklyn-based graphic and industrial artist, is also a mom.   Ten years ago, while planning projects that would challenge her daughters' creative talents, she came up with the concept of her STEAM-oriented day camp. With its programs, Curious Jane gives girls a community in which to explore, ask questions and invent.   Along the way, the young participants develop their skills in engineering and problem-solving.  And often, they think they're just "making something awesome". (Photo courtesy of Samantha Razook Murphy/Curious Jane, and used with permission.) Since its creation ten years ago, Curious Jane has expanded dramatically.   Their website now includes how-to videos and their "Project of the Week".  Three years ago, Samantha also began publishing Curious Jane magazine.   The magazine projects also resulted in a book, filled with hands-on projects for girls who love to make things.  And this summer, in addition to the regular New York-based events, some California workshops will be happening. Best of all, if you happen to be in San Francisco on Thursday evening, May 17th, you can see one of those workshops, first-hand.  Curious Jane will be co-hosting a "Family Maker Block Party" this Thursday, May 17th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.,  as part of "Week of Learning".   And "Week of Learning", in turn, leads up to the flagship Maker Faire Bay Area, opening Friday afternoon in San Mateo. Samantha talked about her experiences creating Curious Jane, her upcoming San Francisco workshop and some of her favorite hands-on maker projects that give young participants the opportunity to become curious and inspired designers and engineers. (Photo courtesy of Samantha Razook Murphy/Curious Jane, and used with permission.) In this edition of Over Coffee®, you'll hear: How Samantha first came to incorporate science into her art; The story of Curious Jane's start, as a summer day camp; What Samantha discovered worked best, in teaching the girls maker skills; One common stress, among young girls in a maker situation, which the program removes; Some of the ways Samantha will be expanding the maker curriculum this summer; How Curious Jane magazine evolved; Some of Samantha's favorite projects which have appeared in the magazine; A preview of the workshop which will be offered during the "Maker Family Block Party" on Thursday evening; (And, a preview of the "Maker Family Block Party"!) Some of the biggest "crowd-pleaser" projects from the workshops; Hiring information for summer, 2019, for camp staff; Some favorite maker resources parents or teachers might like, as summer approaches; Samantha's plans for future expansion (and how to reach out to her, if you're in another city!) Wayne Crandall is the president and CEO of NoteSwift. Crandall's career in technology spans sales, marketing, product management, strategic development, and operations. Prior to joining the NoteSwift team, Crandall was president and CEO of CYA Technologies, and then took over as president of enChoice, which specialized in ECM systems and services, when they purchased CYA. Crandall was a co-founder, executive officer, and senior vice president of sales, marketing, and business development at Nuance Communications and was responsible for growing the company to over $120M following the acquisition of Dragon and SpeechWorks. Before Nuance, he was the European managing director of Xerox Imaging Systems, a wholly owned subsidiary of Xerox Corporation, where he established them as the market leader in document recognition software throughout EMEA and the Pacific Rim. Everything about this conversation excites me to the core! For those of you who've been in my world following my things, you know how passionate I am about money and our relationship with money. This episode is about creating a space and a relationship where money can flow easily to us and through us so that we can create more abundance in the world. About Michelle Lowbridge Michelle is a Brit with a hot chocolate obsession and a cheeky sense of humor, who has a (not so) secret dream of being in a Hallmark Christmas movie. Inside this episode, Michelle shares: 2:45- Six common beliefs that ruin our relationship with money. 9:06- How Samantha connected to the energy of abundance and cleared her money blocks. 10:12- An exercise to activate and release negative money beliefs in 30 seconds. 16:51- The most powerful way we can spend our time. 21:45- Getting clear about what success looks like on an individual level. 25:33- Creating new money beliefs. 30:00- Simple, effective ways to release fears around money. 34:25- How to use energy editing to create rapid change. 39:55- Smashing money blocks with Michelle's new book, Wealthology. I’m excited to share this Episode #29 of the Mother’s Quest Podcast with renowned work/life wellness expert, intentional mom, bestselling author, and so much more – Samantha Ettus. Sam is the author of The Pie Life and The Pie Life Planner which is a playbook for working moms who want to balance the seven “slices” of a delicious life which includes career, health, relationship, children, community, friends and hobbies. She’s also raising two strong independent girls and a feminist son along with her husband in Los Angeles. Sam specializes in helping people thrive professionally and personally. Since earning her undergraduate and MBA degrees from Harvard, she’s coached thousands of professionals who aim to perform at the highest levels. She’s a bestselling author of five books, the CEO of Work Life Love, an entrepreneur, and Tedx and keynote speaker. She has also hosted a weekly nationally syndicated radio show and has appeared on Good Morning America, NBC Nightly News, Access Hollywood, CNN and The TODAY Show among others. She’s given hundreds of keynotes and led workshops at corporations and conferences around the world. Samantha and I delve into the subject of how to sustain a thriving personal and professional life at the same time, the importance of keeping at least one foot in the career world while raising your children, and the power of the financial independence and fulfillment that brings, not only to women’s lives but to our children’s. By showing our children our enthusiasm in our work, and other parts of our lives, we model investing in a life with not one or two but seven meaningful slices. We also talk about the other important values Sam aims to teach her children by her example, the importance of honoring our bodies and seeing ourselves as beautiful in any size, to focus on the people who love you, not the haters or the 10% who will always be critical, and to let go of perfection and realize that the most delicious pies and lives are the ones that are messy, gooey, and real. Finally, Sam shares how she consciously built a community in Los Angeles after relocating from New York, going from not having anyone to put on her children’s emergency card at school, to cultivating meaningful relationships, catalyzed by a Yom Kippur break the fast Samantha threw that has now become an annual tradition for a hundred people. The challenge that emerged from our conversation was to focus on my slice of the pie that relates to building community. As a result of commitments you’ll hear me make on the podcast, I’ve set a date, October 28th, for a podcast listening party of my episode with Elizabeth Cronise McLaughlin on the Age of the New Heroine followed by a Q & A with my friend Chelsea Bonini stepping into heroic challenges of her own as she runs for City Council. If you’re local to the Bay Area, I’d love for you to RSVP and join us. I also committed to throw my first break the fast after 20 years of feeling a bit adrift during this Jewish holiday away from my Los Angeles family. I consciously chose to make this a multicultural break the fast and we had children and adults of multiple generations and religions, eating, playing and talking together. It was a messy and delicious evening, and one that will become a new tradition in my E.P.I.C. Pie Life. Topics discussed in this episode: Samantha’s upbringing as a competitive tennis player in New York and the influence her mother had on her to become strong and independent. Sam’s belief that women should be financially independent and have careers so they will always have options. How being fully present in her work helps Samantha to be fully present for her children The benefit of sharing our enthusiasm for our work with our kids and modeling a fulfilling work life The Pie Life metaphor and how the messy gooey pies are the most delicious Sam’s commitment to teach and model to her children a positive body image and the belief that we are beautiful at any size How to plan for our lives, the benefits of a paper planner and a bit about how Samantha created her Pie Life Planner The importance of letting go of guilt How Samantha consciously built community after moving to LA from New York The importance of perspective, how life should be lived in moments, and how enjoying our lives (including making time for things like date nights) set an example for our children for how to live a full life The challenge I accepted to invest in community gatherings to build connections in my own life Resources mentioned in this episode: Mother’s Quest Podcast Ep 14: Breaking the Mold and Finding your Worth with Amanda Steinberg Mother’s Quest Podcast Ep 26: Surrender and Embracing Difference with Debbie Reber of TILT Parenting for “Differently-Wired” Kids Tilt Parenting Podcast Episode 29: What it Takes to Live a Healthy, Fulfilled Life as Mother to a Differently-Wired Kid, with Samantha Ettus Mother’s Quest Podcast Ep 02: Unmasking Motherhood with Katherine Wintsch Sam’s latest book, The Pie Life and The Pie Life Planner Sam’s TEDx Talk – The Secret to Unlocking a Child’s Potential This Week’s Challenge: Commit to meaningful gatherings. I accepted the challenge to say yes to “parties” and had my very first multi-cultural Yom Kippur break the fast celebration at our home. It was an amazing experience filled with friends and family of different generations and religions who came together and helped me deepen my Bay Area roots in new ways. Another challenge Sam gave is to create a community around the Podcast. I’ve decided to combine a listening part of a favorite episode, with Elizabeth Cronise McLaughlin on Intersectionality and the Age of the New Heroine along with a Q & A with my friend Chelsea Bonini who is stepping into her own heroine’s journey as she runs for City Council. If you have a podcast or love listening to podcasts, you can create a party in your community, build relationships, and cultivate friendships. Stay tuned for a future opportunity to have Samantha visit the Mother’s Quest Private Facebook Group for a Live Q & A and Check-in on the Challenge. Announcements Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America At the time of this recording in October 2017, we are reeling as a nation from the recent mass shooting in Las Vegas. Like so many other moms, I’ve felt a range of feelings from despair to rage about the state of our country and fear for my childrens’ safety. Branding is the heart of a great business and Samantha Johnston is a brand designer and strategist for female entrepreneurs. She is a bootstrappin', pixie dust sprinklin' brand developer for female entrepreneurs who aren't afraid to dig in and get their hands dirty. With strategy, design and web she helps determined, self-taught, lady bosses, like you, realize their dreams of building a business with style, personality & heart. She works with ladies around the world, helping them create professional brands that don't break their budget or cause them to pull their hair out. Her adoring fans and clients have called her "Tinkerbell with a whip. Great accountability sprinkled with pixie dust", "[the] push outside my comfort zone" and "an incredible coach and friend." When she's not working you can find her hanging out with her kids, 100 lb lap dog and husband (most likely on a soccer field or at the park). IN THIS EPISODE 0:40 Samantha Johnston works with female entrepreneurs to develop a fantastic first impression. She shares her experience dancing with Richard Simmons. 5:52 Samantha now spends time with her kids making last minute costumes and attending basketball. 9:33 Never finishing college has been a roadblock and limiting belief in Samantha's business and charging her worth. She kept herself small and stayed with what felt comfortable and kept with those who she thought could afford her. 11:20 She tied her self-worth to being self-taught and thought that she couldn't charge premium prices because she didn't finish school. Recently that has changed as she's let go of the limiting belief through realizing she can turn her story into a strength instead of a weakness. 13:52 The first time Samantha thought about letting go of the limiting belief, she was scared. After coffee chats with Tonya, Samantha sent a quote double of what she normally would charge it. Not having a piece of paper doesn't mean that she couldn't charge her worth. 17:15 Your value doesn't come from the piece of paper or the credentials. Your value is determined by the results you deliver. And that's what people pay for, they pay for the transformation. 18:21 Client relationships have greatly improved since she has raised her rates. She's niched down and works with clients she loves. She's taking the extra money and putting it back into providing better websites and giving fun client gifts. Her clients are happier and ones who shout from the rooftops about her services. 20:58 Samantha's manifesto says that everyone deserves to have a happy wonderful life doing what they love. This is what she wants to help people do. 22:08 How Samantha starts and creates her process of branding with new clients. She takes her clients to a deeper level by solidifying the personal side of the brand and what goes into it. She then goes into the brand and create the pretty graphics and add colors. She likes to help someone figure out their brand by asking interesting questions to figure out the heart of their business. 25:56 Tonya issues a challenge for listeners to give her the famous person and store that represents her business. The giveaway will take place in the Facebook group so if you aren't in the Profit Party Community, come join the community. 28:13 When Tonya was creating the branding for her interior design company, she created a different persona for her business because she didn't have a degree and was afraid that people would question her age and degree. Her new brand was created out of all her favorite things because that's what she wants to portray. 30:56 A brand is a business with heart. Anyone can have a business, you can slap on a logo and call it a business. When you take the time to investigate what it is that you're offering, those are the ones that last are the ones who add heart and bring people into the journey with them. With designs that aim to capture classic modernity with a sense of playfulness, this philosophy exemplifies the essence of the THEIT customer: someone who is independent, inspired, and full of life, who cannot help but to capture the beauty in her world through the lens. An homage to the well-known fashion term “the it” bag, the brand represents more than the most coveted piece for the season, but a new wave of design enabling style, function and versatility for the fashion-minded photographer. Inspired by the runway and the streets, THEIT’s vision is to uphold a fashion standard that helps photographers live their dreams in style. Visit THEIT's website for more beautiful designs! THE STORY Nicole Fajardo, founder and director of THEIT, conceptualized the idea while working as an international flight attendant based in Dubai. Years of experience working in management, marketing and visual design, and a vehement love for fashion took on a new life while she traveled the world and developed an interest in capturing the moments around her through the camera lens. This passion for photography led her to faraway locales, where she dined in Paris, shopped on the side streets of India, and daydreamed along the canals of Venice – the only thing that was missing from these jet-setting travels was a fashionable camera bag to protect her gear. A fruitless search sparked a dream and a vision, and THEIT was launched in 2010.
