The other day I was watching a video from a health coach where in it, she was sharing her opinion of what helps her maintain her youthful glow and clear skin. And somewhere through the video, it struck me just how much we keep preaching the same things over and over again to basically the same audience as well.Regardless of where you turn or who you ask advice from, the answers will usually always be the same; eat a healthy and balanced diet avoiding junk foods and too much sugar, prioritise quality sleep, make sure you manage your stress levels, move your body and move it daily and drink plenty of water.Have your say and leave a comment on the blog at www.conversationswithzahra.co.uk

What happens when we don't eat enough?

So obviously we’ve only just entered the Ramadan and by default in the next month we as Muslims will be fasting for the majority of the day. This is not what I’m referring to however when I’m talking about not eating enough. What I am talking about is what happens when we hope that by restricting our calorie intake drastically, we can achieve a great weight loss result. So in short, I’ll just say this for those of you who are impatient and just want to get to the point – not eating enough food will not necessarily give you the weight loss results you’re after and in many cases, when it’s not done correctly and safely, it could have the opposite of the desired reaction which is it might restrict weight loss and slow down your metabolism.Take part in the conversation by commenting on the blog on www.conversationswithzahra.co.uk

Today’s episode is about what you can do to get the most out of the month of Ramadan or how you can potentially spend less time on things that don’t matter so you can focus on the things that do.So this year, I’ve decided to take a bit of a hiatus from Instagram. I would have loved to say social media in general but unfortunately, I think that would do more harm than good to my business. And since I don’t use Instagram for anything other than just for the fun of it, but it still tends to take up a lot of my time every day, I thought it would be a great place to start when it comes to taking a full break.Have your say in this conversation by leaving a comment on the blog at conversationswithzahra.co.uk

The misunderstanding about motivation

This is a topic I’ve had to learn to get comfortable talking about in the last five or so years because of the industry I’m in – when people come to see me to get personal training or help with their diets, many of them talk about lacking motivation or seeking my help because they feel motivated to do the work. And that’s all very nice and well except, many times, I believe that when people come in to see me they have a very unhealthy relationship with motivation in the first place. And to be honest, this goes for many other people as well, not just for the ones whom I work with.Take part in the conversation here: www.conversationswithzahra.co.uk

Today I want to talk to you about knowledge versus action – do you need more knowledge in your life or do you need to take more action? This is a question that I’ve been faced with a lot in my professional life as an entrepreneur and self-starter when it comes to running my own business as a one-woman band – having to wear different hats and often having to learn how to do things and learn things as and when they come. But I’ve also encountered it a lot as a health coach when I work with clients – in my work, how much new information am I actually giving my clients and how much is it just about helping them to apply what the already know so that they can reach their goals successfully.

Here I am – bringing up that dirty, four-letter word again; diet.It must be done. And because of the industry I’m in, I simply can’t avoid this subject – not now, not ever. But trust me, I wish I could. Because, I don’t know if you know this, but dieting, in its conventional sense, you know, the way that most of us know diets to be – restrictive, boring, unpleasant and so on – I have to deal with that on the other end whenever I speak to clients and just my general audience on social media. And let me tell you, it’s hard. It’s really hard dealing with people’s wrongfully ingrained understanding of what a diet is and what life, following a diet should be like. But hopefully, after today’s episode, you might be a little less confused about diets and dieting in general and with a little wish to a shooting star, maybe you’ll be able to enjoy altering your diet in whichever way you need to, in order to get healthy and fit and just Be Damn Happy In Your Body!Have an opinion on this subject? One of the biggest reasons why I wanted to start this podcast was because I wanted to talk about some of the realities of what it means to be a Muslim woman in the Western world today. It's not always the easiest subjects to talk about because for many people, these subjects are emotionally charged, very personal and often, even to the people who do not take part in the religion, loaded with personal opinions and assumptions. For me, being a Muslim woman in public who doesn't wear the hijab and openly speaks up about why I don't, I've often come across resistance around the way I choose to live my life. In this episode I want to have a conversation about why I believe it's toxic to only give value to the hijab when it comes to Muslim women. You can find the YouTube video I talk about here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-dOxZLB0LE

Most of us are procrastinating one something in our lives right now. There's something we know we should be doing and instead, we do everything we can to avoid doing it - the dishes have never looked this sexy and suddenly, the prospect of being 'stuck' on the phone with your aunt doesn't seem so bad. But the reality is that the thing we're avoiding usually has the potential to do something great for us in our lives - if only we had enough discipline to get it done. But how do we get that? Sometimes, in order to get enough discipline to finish something in your life, all you have to do is understand what it means to and change your perspective of it entirely. After all, we can't expect to change the things in our lives that we don't understand - why would this be any different?
