We are so excited to be welcoming in James to out IYCSM podcast family. James E. To hear Episodes as they come out follow us at "If You Could See Me Stories"Donna Johnson Edwards is, in the words of William Shakespeare, small but fierce. She stands just under 5 feet tall and admits to having to shop in the children's section from time to time. In spite of, or maybe because of, her tiny stature, Donna exudes power. She doesn't realize it because her new reality differs so completely from who she was prior to the Traumatic Brain injury she experienced in 2016 that changed her life forever. Her courage and commitment to her healing, the storytelling process, and the honesty of her storytelling is an inspiration. This is her story. I met Donna in 2018 when she became a member of my ReStory personal narrative writing and storytelling group at Life in 10 Minutes, in Richmond, Virginia. She made it known early in the process that she had been referred to the class by her therapist as part of her healing from a traumatic brain injury. Her courage and commitment to her healing, the storytelling process, and the honesty of her storytelling was inspiring and endearing. In 2019, Donna joined the If You Could See Me Project performing her story in our June event that year. Donna's is a story shared by so many who experience disabling conditions or events which alter their mind, body, and probably more than anything their sense of who they are, their value in the world, and often leaving them scrambling to find the appropriate resources and support to return to functioning. Donna's ability to talk about her experience and to advocate for herself and others, is a reflection of her fierce resilience.Disclaimer: This story is for entertainment purposes only. If you or someone you love is experiencing the effects of any medical or mental health condition, please seek medical attention. This series is not intended as medical or therapeutic advice and should not replace the engagement of a medical or mental health professional.

We have a very special treat for you today. A year ago we had to do something very different. Covid was just ramping up and shutting everything down and we had a group of amazing women that had been working hard leading up to their If You Could See Me presentation. Then the world closed down so we here at if you could see me didn't want to give up the opportunity for these women who worked so hard to tell their story. So Each of these women, Kerri and I met in an outdoor public space masked and ready. We recorded each of their stories and did our first If You Could See Me broadcast. We went live on streamyard and youtube and we had a show. Today, I want you, our faithful friends and podcast family to have the opportunity to hear these amazing and strong women's stories. This is what we are about, empowering people to tell their story, to take shame off the table not only for them but for anyone who is listening. We know it gets better and we are here to help you find a way to tell your story. Join the movement check out our website to see all the ways you can join or follow us on Patreon. And now... here is our rebroadcast of If You Could See Me: Into the Light.
Today we talk to one of our many If You Could See Me Project family members. Tammy Ozolins lives on the bipolar spectrum. We are excited to hear from her as a teacher and a coach in the covid climate how to navigate trying times and mental health challenges. Today she is here to help bust the monolith of a bipolar diagnosis, and the generalizations. She tells us how she advocates for what she need, how she respectfully educates those around her about her diagnosis. We are all born creatives. We then receive messages that undermine our innate creativity and squash the curiosity and courage that is needed to exercise the creative muscle. It's time to reclaim, release shame, and step into the light. It can be terrifying to step into our true selves after a lifetime of being undermined and receiving messages that undervalue the thing we want most. Donna Joyce is a WRITER - she can say that today. Getting to this place has been a journey of courage, compassion, discovery, and healing. The spring 2020 If You Could See Me participants began meeting in February of this year. They were supposed to have their show in June. As we are all aware this year has been an exercise in flexibility, persistence, acceptance, and patience and our project is not alone in having been effected. These five amazing women have continued to show-up for themselves and one another in truly remarkable ways. We had to postpone and then reimagine what shows would look like but now we are to thrilled share their stories in a brand new virtual format on Friday, January 22nd, at 7:30 pm via zoom. Get your tickets at www.ifyoucouldseeme.com This week Erin talks to Roger Koller about his recovery journey and his desire to help others find peace and healing. Roger Koller says this about himself: I am a person in recovery from multiple life challenges including grief, anxiety, and addictive behaviors. I was born and raised in Richmond and attended Collegiate School, Trinity Episcopal High School and matriculated from University of Richmond in 1994. However, from an early age I faced issues that I could not understand. Thanks to some poor decisions and bad luck and misinformation, I found myself in recovery environments at the turn of the millennium. I have learned many things along the way, and it is a continuum where there is always something to learn from someone else and something to pass on to others who have reached obstacles on the freeway for which I have found solutions that worked for me, which I am now in a position to share.. I am now a Certified Peer Support Specialist, a WRAP facilitator, a SMART Recovery Facilitator, and have started and led several support based peer groups at different peer-run centers around the Richmond area. I have also had the pleasure of serving on many local peer center boards and committees. With this non-profit organization, I want to continue to develop solutions and innovations in collaboration with others in the community in ways that both mirror and diverge from what others have already done before me. I hope that we can work together to find more solutions for ourselves and each other.Support our show by supporting our affiliates!Get the irel8 app and support The If You Could See Me Project at the same time! https://irel8.org/ifyoucouldseeme/iRel8 is a global, anonymous peer empowerment platform focused on mental wellness. This week Erin welcomed Kim Flournoy DiJoseph to the show! This powerful conversation was hopefully just the beginning of many more! Kim Flournoy DiJoseph of the shadow work integration practice, @hotmesswork, has been called a “punk rock, modern-day Chinese medicine woman” who “sees the clearest in the dark,” and described by clients as having a “unique blend of intuitive healer and coach” and “someone who does her own work, so she can prepare and guide us in ours.”With 25+ years of combined, professional practice as a psychodynamic-bent, trauma-informed therapist way before the term was a thing, a social justice and anti-violence advocate building empathy and bridges across the victim/perpetrator dichotomy, and an associate professor in teaching with emphasis in vicarious trauma and holistic wellness of social work students and practitioners, Kim is firmly grounded in a continuum of theoretical and systematically-legitimized approaches to teaching and supporting folx through crisis, grief, trauma, and change. In part catalyzed by a transformative and karmic-jolting awakening following the murder of her mother in 2012, Kim’s personal, healing journey and practice evolved into a calling to serve and offer a new-to-her way to approach supporting folx: @hotmesswork Hot Mess Work as an approach is a fluid, yet integrated merging of innate abilities, Jungian shadow work, eastern religion and Chinese shamanism, evolutionary astrology, mindfulness practice, the iChing, and whatever else just feels true and right. Regardless of the influence, the work is intuitively guided by messages and confirmations that come through psychically from Kim’s own and/or clients’ ancestors. The major emphasis of this work is accurately identifying the root of client’s stuckness and the subsequent integration of all of their parts, shadow and light -- ultimately, for folks to work on their own sh*t as a means to working on our much-needed universal collective shift.Kim is a cisgender, non-black POC mother, healer, writer, teacher, partner, consultant, and innerwork activist living and loving in Richmond, Virginia with a native Carolina blue heart. She is especially grateful for time in the kitchen and the ocean.Support our show by supporting our affiliates!Get the irel8 app and support The If You Could See Me Project at the same time! https://irel8.org/ifyoucouldseeme/iRel8 is a global, anonymous peer empowerment platform focused on mental wellness.
