It's about recognizing your own worth, embracing your strengths, and being kind and gentle with yourself, even in the face of challenges. When you practice self-love, something amazing happens. You start to radiate a sense of confidence and inner peace that not only benefits you, but also has a profound impact on your relationships. Ep.30: The Power of the Full Moon; Its Impact on our Mental Health

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 30, 2023 11:54

Hello everyone, I'm Maria Grace, the host of "The GRACE Matrix™, Own Your Journey" podcast. Today, I want to talk about something that some may dismiss as "woo woo", but I believe it's worth exploring - the influence of the full moon on our mental health. Now, before you click away, hear me out. The moon's energy is universal, and it affects all of us, whether we realize it or not. Personally, I've noticed a significant impact on my mental state during the full moon, and I've seen similar patterns in my clients as well. During this lunar phase, I often find myself experiencing heightened emotions and increased anxiety. It's as if everything is magnified, and even the smallest things can trigger a strong reaction. It can be overwhelming, to say the least. But why does this happen? Well, it all comes down to the moon's gravitational pull. Just like how it affects the tides, it also affects our bodies. During the full moon, there is an increase in fluid retention, which can lead to physical discomfort and bloating. But it doesn't stop there - our emotional sensitivity is also heightened. So, what can we do to support our mental well-being during this time? I've found that practicing mindfulness, meditation, and self-care can make a world of difference. Taking a few moments each day to ground ourselves, breathe deeply, and focus on the present moment can help us navigate the emotional rollercoaster that the full moon often brings. Additionally, engaging in self-care activities that bring us joy and relaxation can help alleviate some of the anxiety and stress. Whether it's taking a long bath, going for a walk in nature, or indulging in a creative hobby, find what works for you and make it a priority during the full moon. Instead of resisting or dismissing the moon's influence, I encourage you to embrace it. Allow the moon to guide you on your journey of self-discovery and growth. Pay attention to the patterns and emotions that arise during this time, and use them as valuable insights into your own inner world. Remember, we are all connected to the universe in ways we may not fully understand. So, let's honor and respect the moon's energy, and in doing so, support our own mental well-being. Thank you for joining me today, and until next time, embrace the moon's guidance on your journey.

So, if you feel like this could affect you, feel free to take a breather or skip this part. Your well-being is important to us! Hey there! In this podcast episode, I had the pleasure of chatting with the incredible Dr. Emily Fessler. She's not only a faculty member at the University of Houston Clear Lake but also a sex therapist. Dr. Fessler shared her fascinating journey into the world of sex therapy and highlighted how it's all about understanding relationship dynamics rather than just giving out sex tips. We dove deep into the misconceptions and stigma surrounding sex therapy and why sexual education is so important. Dr. Fessler also shed light on the barriers that can hinder our sexual connections and even suggested that planning for intimacy can actually be super beneficial. But that's not all! We also talked about the need for connection and community among therapists. Dr. Fessler is working on an amazing project called the Therapy Collective, which aims to create a supportive community for therapists in Houston. So grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and join us for this enlightening and inspiring conversation. Trust me, you won't want to miss it! About Dr. Emily Fessler : After years of traversing the uphill battle of being a BIPOC woman/mother in academia, and almost two decades as a therapist, I've come to recognize that I can take advantage of the privilege of being comfortable in my own skin. On the outside, that often looks like a pair of ripped jeans and kicking off my heels over to sit crossed-legged in my chair while I sip my iced coffee. On the inside, I realize that I'm lucky because every morning when I open my eyes, I look forward to the day ahead; I love my job, I work with clients that are well-suited to my skill set, and I'm good at what I do. After years of working in the trenches of mental health, I am so happy to work with people in the exact ways that I want to. One of my long-time clients dubbed me “the everyday people's sex therapist” and I can't count on both hands the number of times that I've been cornered at a party by someone that says, “Soo….can I ask you a weird question?” Owner and Principle Therapist at Therapy Co. in Houston, TX; Associate Professor for the University of Houston Clear Lake Website: https://therapyco.net/ Insta: @thefullemilyexperience Topics:  1️⃣ Dr. Emily Fessler's background and journey in becoming a sex therapist 2️⃣Sex Drive versus Sex Break 3️⃣The role of sex therapy in addressing high conflict issues in relationships 4️⃣ Misconceptions and stigma surrounding sex therapy  5️⃣ Barriers to sexual connection and reframing them Own Your Journey! It was this a-ha moment, when I recognized what had always been right in front of my nose - an innovative way to specify a brand's position, voice and style using Astrology - without guessing, copying or comparing! At that instance of recognition, I decided to bring my deep spirituality and love of astrology out of the closet and fashion it into a strategic, practical tool to create soul-aligned brand identities, leadership and visibility. After all, our businesses and work are part of our soul's spiritual journey!  When not stargazing and advising, I'm a professional classical clarinetist with my nationally-recognized chamber ensemble Quinteto Latino and playing in groups like the San Francisco Ballet and the San Francisco Opera. Words from Abby: “I'm a cis, (mostly) able-bodied, straight-sized, half-gen, racialized settler from Hong Kong. As a child of diaspora, systemically imposed scarcity and the resulting emotional impact categorized much of my life growing up. It wasn't until my graduate program that I was radicalized and had to undergo (and still am undergoing) unlearning the indoctrination of our violent society to move towards collective liberation. The journey has been and will be full of mistakes and discomfort, but also full of people who have held me up and stuck by me through them. And now only those who loved them Know what that little line is worth For it matters not, how much we own, The cars...the house...the cash. What matters is how we live and love And how we spend our dash. So, think about this long and hard. Are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left That can still be rearranged. If we could just slow down enough To consider what's true and real And always try to understand The way other people feel. And be less quick to anger And show appreciation more And love the people in our lives Like we've never loved before. If we treat each other with respect And more often wear a smile, Remembering this special dash Might only last a little while So, when your eulogy is being read With your life's actions to rehash... Would you be proud of the things they say About how you spent YOUR dash?
