Welcome to Tiger Therapy, where we delve into the mental and emotional side of what it takes to be successful, and specifically how to identify and get over the self doubt and limiting beliefs that hold so many people back and stop them realizing their full potential. Each week, join Pippa Woodhead, as she speaks to a new guest who has achieved success on their own terms - perhaps they’ve gone against the grain in some way, shattered a ceiling, done something unexpected, or they’ve broken generational patterns. She’ll be asking them to share their experiences with limiting beliefs and times where self doubt got in the way. Brought to you by Tigerhall. Hosted on Acast. Dr. Ellen Langer is a legend in the field of psychology. And a legend at Harvard University. She's the longest-serving professor of psychology at Harvard. She was also the first woman to ever be tenured in psychology at the university. Her 40+ year career has earned her the nicknames “the mother of mindfulness” and “the mother of positive psychology.”Until starting Tiger Therapy, I always thought self-doubt was an enemy to be vanquished. But Dr. Langer is another academic who has shared that self-doubt is important. In fact, she says, if you don't feel self-doubt, you might be being mindless. Research shows that most of us are mindless most of the time, but Dr. Langer believes that if we can work towards being more mindful it will help us tremendously in almost every facet of life. Her groundbreaking research has found that we can quite literally think ourselves younger, healthier and better - as well as totally changing our relationship with self-doubt. (By the way - mindfulness is NOT to be mistaken for mediation.)This episode is full of the most mind-blowing studies, experiments and stories that have the power to change how you think about how you think. Thank you Dr. Langer for coming on Tiger Therapy!______---- Taking a short (baby related!) break ----This is the last episode in Tiger Therapy Season 4. There have been 34 episodes so far with absolutely brilliant guests - I can't thank them enough for sharing their wisdom and stories about times where self-doubt and limiting beliefs got in the way. And thank you so much to everyone who's been listening along. I'm going on maternity leave, but Tiger Therapy will be back in early 2025. How do you think you'd handle it if you failed at the one thing you're supposed to be best at, on live TV, with the whole world watching? Lindsey Jacobellis is the most successful female snowboarder of all time. She is a two-time Olympic Gold medalist, an Olympic Silver medalist, a 31x World Cup Gold Medalist and a 6x World Champion.Despite so much success, something happened in her early career that's followed her ever since - a split-second mistake made at her first ever Olympics when she was just 20 years old. This defining moment led to public ridicule, a media circus and even hate mail. It's something that (understandably) shook her confidence and left her full of self-doubt. She's had to actively fight to not let it define her. I'm so excited to have her on Tiger Therapy to share her story and share what she learned with you. Me: "Does anyone ever bother lying to you?"Chase Hughes: "You'd be surprised."I was genuinely so excited to speak to Chase Hughes, until about an hour before our interview when my excitement turned to nerves...I don't know about you, but I'm not sure I love the idea that someone can look at my face and know exactly what I'm thinking - which is precisely what Chase can do, being the no.1 behaviour and body language expert in the world. Chase is a neuroscientist, military veteran, bestselling author and star of YouTube's The Behaviour Panel (which if you haven't ever seen - I highly recommend). He used to train CIA operatives on how to negotiate, interrogate, and read people for extreme persuasion. He now teaches the same skills to business people. He will be the first to tell you that getting a handle on your own mind is key to doing this well. If you feel self-doubt, your confidence is shaky or if you feel fear - this will show on your face.Chase has spent over 20 years (and millions of US government money) to develop how best to train someone as quickly as possible how to master their mind and get over limiting beliefs - and he tells us how to do it in this episode of Tiger Therapy. His advice is extraordinary (and something people normally pay him thousands for). Thanks so much Chase for the fascinating conversation - I have a feeling this will be an episode I'll want to listen to again and again! _______Learn more about Chase via his website here._______Social media: Pippa Woodhead | @pippa.woodheadTigerhall @chasehughesofficial Hosted on Acast. Very few people's lives are destined to be made into a movie… but I would put money on this real-life rags to riches story finding its way to Hollywood soon enough. From growing up in the slums in the Philippines… to Harvard, Wall Street, Microsoft and now the first female president of Utah Valley University, Astrid Tuminez has lived and worked all over the world, speaks multiple languages and is all in all an extraordinary person. She says “Nobody can stop you from dreaming about where you want to be, and what you want to do with your life.”In this week's episode Astrid and I discuss the power of the mind, magical thinking, overcoming self-doubt and feeling like an outsider. I thought I knew a fair bit about imposter syndrome until I spoke to this week's guest, Dr. Lisa Orbé-Austin.Lisa is a psychologist and imposter syndrome expert, with two bestselling books to her name (co-written with her husband, Dr. Richard Orbé-Austin). Have you ever felt like you're trying to “keep it together” at work? Showing emotions in the office is often seen as taboo. It's “unprofessional.” But… sleep is the only thing we do in our lives more than work. Isn't it a shame that we spend so much of our lives pretending? 60% of people are emotionally detached at work. 19% of people are miserable. What gives? This week's Tiger Therapy guest is Mollie Rogers Jean De Dieu, GM at Longchamp, and author of Emotional Inclusion: A Humanizing Revolution at Work. Mollie argues that ‘Emotional Inclusion' (a term she coined) is what's missing from our workplaces. If we focused more on being emotionally inclusive, she argues, it would have a transformative impact on employee wellness and productivity. Thank you Mollie for coming on Tiger Therapy! “We are all stuck in a web. Every one of us is conditioned and caught up in a system that we cannot see.” I first learned about Elise in early 2020 when The Goop Lab came out on Netflix. There she was, side-by-side with Gwyneth Paltrow, discussing innovative health experiments they would all be trying as part of the show. I remember thinking “Chief Content Officer at Goop… what a cool job.” Fast forward and I've now been following Elise for a few years, I've seen her transition from Goop to being an incredible podcaster and author - FIVE of her books have been New York Times bestsellers. So now I think she has an even cooler job.Her latest book - ‘On Our Best Behavior: The Price Women Pay to Be Good', an analysis of how history and culture have shaped how women see themselves, was an instant NYT bestseller. As Tiger Therapy is all about the ways we hold ourselves back - through self-doubt and limiting beliefs, so much of the book struck a chord. When you listen you'll understand why. By the way, this conversation isn't just for women. I truly encourage everyone to listen as it will really make you think about how our upbringing and society systems condition us all. A good friend of mine has worked in a particular sector for most of her career. From the outside she's one of those people who's life looks perfect. But more recently over a series of honest talks, she's confided in me that she hates her job. Has done for years. Naturally I've asked, “why don't you do something else?” She explained that there were a couple of big things keeping her stuck. Firstly, she doesn't know what she wants to do instead. (Kind of a problem). The other big thing is that she's overwhelmed with self-doubt at the idea of making a big change. She's been doing what she's been doing for so long, that at least she knows she's good at it. It feels terrifying to walk away from. This week on Tiger Therapy, I'm speaking to world authority on career transitions, who has been named one of the most influential business thinkers in the world.Herminia Ibarra is Professor of Organisational Behaviour at London Business School. She also spent years teaching at INSEAD and Harvard Business School. Her career has been spent researching leadership, women's advancement, and career transitions. A story about this episode - months ago, when I first explained the concept of Tiger Therapy to Tigerhall CEO Nellie Wartoft, almost the first thing out her mouth was “you have to speak to Rick Harshman.”Originally from the US, Richard “Rick” Harshman has had a string of major leadership roles in tech across Asia Pacific and Japan. Most recently he was President and SVP at UiPath, prior to this, MD at Google Cloud and Head of ASEAN at Amazon Web Services (AWS).What struck me about this, is I would never have picked someone with his profile for a conversation about self doubt. (Putting my hand up here to own my bias.) She attributes her confidence partly to her age, but also to knowing exactly who she is and what she stands for. In this episode of Tiger Therapy, Cindy shares what she's learned from being President of a major advertising firm to being the purpose-driven founder of “world-changing startup” MakeLoveNotPorn. We cover why so much of the advice given to women is wrong, why diversity, equity and inclusion trainings don't work, why men need more female leadership role models, handling sexual harassment and why our fear of discussing sex needs to be addressed._____ Social media:@pippa.woodhead@tigerhall@cindygallop Hosted on Acast.
