Welcome to the Vele Podcast. Here 4 friends get together to talk rubbish.
For this episode the Vele crew discuss the trial of Johnny Depp VS Amber Heard and how maybe we as a society were quick to judge and how social media can affect the outcome of trials like this one.
In this episode we discuss the Thor Love and Thunder and the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, what we expect from it and where may it be going. We then move on to discuss the recent mishap with an EV battery and how it will affect the EV industry in India.
With the dominance of streaming platforms we discuss if the theater experience is still relevant in these time, we then move on to discussing Elon making an offer to buy twitter and what it may lead to and finally provide our highly analytical insights in the world of sports.
This weeks episode featured an insightful discussion with Amrit and Arnav focusing on Elon Musk's buying his way into twitter and why people hate the stock market. They then revert back to the usual topic of sports to discuss why are the Lakers so bad.
In this episode we talk about the hot topic everyone has been talking about the world cup, electric vehicles. Oh and also apparently something small happened at the Oscars...
The Vele return to podcasting after a long hiatus with a lot of energy and a lot of topics to talk about.
The Vele return with a special first take on the fourth installment of the Matrix franchise. Helmed by Lana Wachowski, the movie sees the introduction of Priyanka Chopra, alongside the recurring cast of Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith. Set for release on December 22 digitally, we share our immediate reaction to the trailer that was released a few hours ago. More specialized content is on the way, as the Vele make a full-fledged return by this weekend!
This week we have a sports philosophy special as we debate the merits and demerits of superstar athletes forming superteams. This stems from Giannis Antetekoumpo winning his first NBA title and claiming he did it the ‘hard way. We discuss why he commented, the implication of certain victories meaning more than others, and the narratives players decide for their legacies (08:43). We also deliberate on the opening of India's medal tally at the Tokyo Olympics via weightlifting sensation Mirabai Chanu (0:00). Finally we ended the show with football and NBA transfer talk (52:50). This week's episode is a subjective take on how each of us individually rates a championship and if our standards waver when we are faced with the actions of our own teams.
This week we have a complete episode dedicated to an exciting yet thought provoking EURO 2020. As the tournament ended, Italy were crowned champions at Wembley, much to the chagrin of English fans (5:45). We discuss the racist abuse suffered by young black players after the game, and talk about the post game violence as well (18:45). We also talk about Italy's campaign and Gareth Southgate's technical and philosophical approach to football. As the Euros had many controversial moments related to the Video Assistant Referee, we discuss how VAR is affecting the flow of the game (48:47). How does football deal with stoppages and questionable decisions in the era of social media and instant replays? This and a lot more in this EURO 2020 special!
In this episode of the Vele podcast, the crew share their own personal horror stories they experienced and discussed their embarrassing moments of being scared (04:45). We then move onto talk about our own gaming history, which actually proved to be a great journey down memory lane as the crew remember the games they grew up with (38:22). A funny episode for sure, don't miss it!
Another week, another episode with the Vele crew! For this episode the crew decide to talk about bitcoin. With El Salvador becoming the first country in the world to classify bitcoin as a legal currency, we thought it was about time we wrapped our heads around what it is and how it works. A very enlightening discussion (04:26). We then moved on to discuss India's focus on electric vehicles, due to the recent announcement of the extension of the second phase of the FAME scheme. In this discussion Kevin educates us on the growing market of EV in India and provides some great information for those looking into these vehicles (34:22). Finally we end the podcast on what we all have recently been watching (55:04). A very informative episode, give it a listen!
In this episode the Vele crew discuss each of their guilty pleasures a lot of funny content in this one ranging from bad movies to cars (02:41). From there we went on to talk about things that were considered impossible but in time became part of our lives, join us in this trip down memory lane where we talk about floppy disks, DVDs etc (29:36). Finally we ended the podcast on sports (the topic we love to talk about), here we talked about the teams or people that didn't get the recognition they deserved in their time (48:31). Give it a listen!
This week we explore a particularly dull week in sports. The Euro Cup begins and is getting somewhat interesting because France and Hungary played out a rivetting 1-1 draw, we give our picks one who will win and more (03:45). Also, Cristiano Ronaldo causes a 4 billion fall in Coca Cola's shares by putting away a few bottles at a EURO 2020 press meet. Not to be left behind, Paul Pogba responded by trashing on Heineken. Are woke athletes the need of the hour or do we support the pain felt by multinational companies (23:49)? Meanwhile, we hope for torrential downpour in England as India struggle in their World Test Championship final against New Zealand (35:23). More such cogent insight awaits you this week on the Vele Podcast!
This week we try avoiding sports but end up being dragged into it anyway. Logan Paul and Floyd Mayweather Jr played out one of the most boring hug-fests in boxing history. But, they made a ton of money and that justifies any and every decision made. Ollie Robinson had a terrific test debut, but racial tweets from 2013 led to an indefinite suspension. How do we judge athletes for comments from the past, and will we evolve positively with social media as we get used to it with time (10:43)? We then discuss the non-raging controversy of Roger Federer withdrawing from the French Open. Does this decision set a good precedent or do such athletes devalue the entire tournament (25:08)? We provide a spoiler-free and in-depth review of the second season of Family Man, as we debate the pros and cons of Manoj Bajpayee's latest installment (37:52) SPOILERS - (45:18). We round things off with a discussion on the first episode of Tom Hiddlestone's Loki (58:16) SPOILERS - (1:05:11). We also offer our prayers and wishes for Christian Eriksen, who was hospitalized while we were recording the episode.
In this episode, we recap a polarising week in the world of sports. Naomi Osaka withdrew from the French Open, raising a hell storm on the issue of mental health in sports and the intrusive role of modern media in the lives of athletes (09:58). We discuss Juhi Chawla's petition on 5G services being stopped until the public was utterly aware of the downsides of the same. Is this anti-reform or eco-friendly(33:13)? We also discuss the majority of opinion polls from Japan, citing the citizens' need for a postponement or cancellation of the Olympics. Are the games even relevant in this day and age (47:04)? We also mention Chelsea stealing the champions league from Manchester City (1:03:24).
This week, the Indian Government went head to head with global tech behemoths like Facebook, Twitter, and Whatsapp. The Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 or Data Privacy rules, have caused a major legal and moral stir in the country. The traceability feature of the guidelines have raised the crucial question of Right to Privacy, and to what extent does the government get to interfere in the personal thoughts of its citizen (06:20). We also discuss how the Trump cocktail or Antibody cocktail 'Regeneron', is an effective new weapon for private individuals to try (39:27). We discuss Amazon's takeover of MGM and the catalog they inherit (49:34), along with the popular Friends TV show Reunion (58:23).
This week we begin with condolences for the casualties caused by Cyclone Tauktae and Yaas. We then drift into a sport fuelled first-half, discussing the various storylines that dominate the NBA Playoffs. As we revisit our picks, we find ourselves doubting the Clippers already, with Luka Doncic and the Mavericks appearing on track to avenge last year's defeat. Will the Lakers stumble, and a new champion rise, as the Bucks appear to have gone beyond their Heat-shaped mental block (07:47). We then discuss Harry Kane’s future, as the England captain is said to be on the transfer block this season (21:35). This is followed by a shallow and ridiculous discussion on the Pentagon releasing footage of UFOs. Are the aliens truly here, And other pertinent questions are blatantly ignored in our conversation (36:41). We end the episode with an in-depth review of Marvel’s Eternals and Salman Khan’s Radhe (52:57).
This week we discuss some spicy Podcast drama. The Joe Budden Podcast breakup got official and ugly, with Rory and Mal openly spilling Joe Budden's shoddy business practices, two days after his infamous rant on the duo. We discuss what this means for podcasts, how it is to mix friendship and business, and our own experiences with the subject (07:19). We then discuss Floyd Mayweather's much-anticipated return to boxing, albeit in an exhibition bout with Logan Paul. Does this ruin the sport, or is there no harm in an easy payday for combatants?(41:06) We then have a short discussion on the Venom 2 trailer - what is this movie?(57:28) Then we finish things off with a recap of our comical experiences with PUBG's latest Godzilla update (1:05:38).
This week, we get into the Epic Games vs. Apple suit. The makers of popular battle royale Fortnite are suing Apple for their alleged monopoly on all transactions performed in the app store. The ramifications for how this will affect the entire tech space is discussed, as each industry shall await the result for the precedent set in this case (08:22). The NBA finals are here, and we give our predictions for the conference and ultimate champions. The shortened 2021 NBA season has produced many new teams, and we discuss the Nikola Jokic MVP debate, Chris Paul's legacy, and the Lebron James factor (37:16). We round up things with the announcement of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Over the next few years, some of our favorite superheroes shall return, and we declare which Marvel movie we are most excited for (1:05:08).
India has officially opened vaccination for all adults, and we get into an intense debate on the pros and cons of the same. We also ponder possible solutions for containing the rising COVID-19 numbers in the country (02:26). Then we shift focus to the Champions League, where the semis are upon us, and Pep Guardiola appears to be inching towards the promised land (45:22). We then discuss the Oscars 2021 Nominations, and our lack of knowledge about most releases in a pandemic year (53:09), and a scary Conjuring 3 trailer (01:13:27). All this and much more this week on the Vele Podcast!
This week we discuss Marvel's Shang Chi trailer and Salman Khan's interestingly produced Radhe teaser (05:03). We then move on to the now failed Super League coup that shocked European football. Twelve of the biggest names in European football caused a massive uproar among their fan bases with the proposal of a breakaway league, now tanked due to the unanimous backlash (25:49). We discuss the dilution of sports with the search for money as Olympian Ben Askren got knocked out in the first round by YouTuber Jake Paul. Do such exhibition matches ruin sports or add to them? (45:43) We then shift our attention to the recent Apple conference and discuss their new releases (1:01:10).
This week the world once again faces discussions on the role of police in civilian life. Police brutality in the US with the killing of Deonte Wright led to widespread condemnation and anger across the world. Today we discuss our own experiences with uniformed officers, and police reforms that can help improve the current mistrust (06:11). We then get into the Ever Given receiving a 1 billion dollar fine over their blunder in the Suez Canal (42:14),somehow Fast and Furious releasing plans for an 9th movie (45:43). We then end the episode with a small discussion on the new PUBG map and our 'amazing' skills in the game (1:04:06).
This week we deal with a record rise in coronavirus infections in India. States are introducing new restrictions, yet no complete lockdown appears to be in sight (09:58). We smoothly transition to LG announcing its decision to quit the smartphone market, which surprised anyone who cares about their products. This leads to a discussion on the brands that once dominated the phone market but are now nowhere to be seen (38:05). We finally discuss the new trailers for Loki and Black Widow, as Marvel ensures that the next decade shall also belong to them (52:44) and end the show with some football talk (1:03:35).
For this episode we started off our discussion by talking about our opinions on the biggest movie of the year so far Godzilla Vs Kong (04:01). We stayed in the realm of Entertainment and talked about the latest trailer for the Suicide Squad. Will it be good or as disappointing as the previous version? Only time will tell (19:05). We then moved on to talking about the Suez Canal blockage and how it affected the world. And finally the IPL is returning so its about that time where we make our predictions! All of us picked the teams we think will be in the finals, we'll see who is right when the time comes (43:40). A fun and eventful episode for sure give it a listen!
This week, India is witnessing assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, West Bengal, and Assam. We first try and explain how the basic election process takes place in the country (7:09). This is followed by possible electoral reforms that we can attempt in the future. This is romantic daydreaming, but we feel this would at least clear up the clutter we are faced with now (30:52). We also mix in how an Indian version of a presidential debate would require pro wrestling elements, which honestly shall be the best takeaway from the whole thing. Kerala Championship Wrestling: https://youtu.be/jRuTVV4uPNQ
Our finale finds us wrapping up our Climate change series with technologies that shall define the next two decades of our fight against climate change. The sun’s relentless heat is a scary reality, but the ability to harness the same via solar panels can solve some of our energy issues (06:27). Similarly, electric and hybrid vehicles are the sole hope we have to reduce the fatal damage caused by vehicular emissions (42:35). This episode also includes our final thoughts on the matter and a solemn promise to choose more light-hearted content along these lines in the foreseeable future.
This is a special release where we review Zack Snyder's Justice League and give our impressions on the first episode of the falcon and the winter soldier. DC vs Marvel in the same week and we witness similar trends and behavior from the two comic book behemoths. Snyder's much-anticipated version comes after the release of the original in 2017, while this iteration somehow taking up 4 hours of every viewer's life. Meanwhile, Marvel opens the viewer to an intriguing look into a post-Endgame Marvel Cinematic Universe. Choose whichever series you wish to , but superheroes are back to being relevant in our lives once again. Snyder Cut Spoiler Free Impressions: 05:21 Spoilers Galore: 10:17 Wandavision Spoilers: 47:03 Falcon and The Winter Soldier Spoilers: 49:32
This week we continue our discussion on climate change with a renewed focus on personal solutions. First, we hear of Akira Miyawaki’s famous afforestation method and how it can impact and aid urban areas. This is the closest we’ll get to building a forest in the middle of our cities. This is followed by a confusion-clearing session on how geothermal energy functions. That translates to us asking lots of questions to our patient host, but we manage to glean an idea of its great potential. In other news, all Rohit Sharma slander is banned for the foreseeable future.
For this episode we decided to talk about climate change. With the Uttarakhand disaster and the situation that happened in Texas we thought it would be a good topic to help spread awareness. It is definitely worth listening! Donations For Uttarkand: https://www.ritinjali.org/content/donate-generously-uttarakhand-relief-fund
On this "Light" episode we decided to discuss the repercussions of Coronavirus on the entertainment industry. We talked about the future of cinema (3:40) and also moved on to discuss whether remakes of movies make sense (22:38). For our last topic we discussed the the Wall Street mayhem that occurred with the Gamestop, AMC, Nokia stocks - which was relevant at the time (47:32).
This particular episode chronicles the eleven years since the four of us first met. The four Vele share their first impressions of each other, including the circumstances that led to the same. We try and contextualize but apologize in advance if the reminiscing went overboard (13:17). This episode was taped during the India-England series, and we hope you keep in mind that this happened during the first test. We round things off with some of the greatest sports moments we witnessed (51:43).
Is banning an app outright a good solution towards containing fringe/foreign policy response? Is free speech being threatened under the umbrella of political correctness? We delve into Parler being banned by Amazon, Rihanna, and Greta Thunberg facing a backlash on Twitter and freedom of expression discussion taking over pop culture. We discuss how social media has changed the way any conversation on free speech takes place. This episode is four friends honestly tackling the realities of free speech in 2021 (04:11). We also mention highlights from the 2021 Budget that we somehow managed to understand (1:09:26).
This week we finally delve into India's controversial farm laws, with a focus on what these three bring to the table. 2020 and 2021 have seen mass protests at Delhi's border as farmers from Punjab and Haryana assembled in large numbers. Lakhs of farmers are currently occupying the border with the sole intention of having the laws repealed, while the central government is currently refusing to budge from its stance. The deadlock turned violent on Republic Day, but the situation has overall managed to remain peaceful. As both sides engage in talks, we provide our views as citizens on India’s farm laws (06:39).
India win a test series (59:05) and Biden took over the White House, 2021 appears to be starting on the right note (48:57). Oh, and we have vaccines. The Covishield and Covaxin doses are out and January 16 saw the first healthcare workers getting their shots. However, people are scared over reports of trials not being finished, especially for Covaxin. This raised the question, should we start giving celebrities or politicians the first dose so as to raise public morale? This leads to a vaccine based discussion where we talk about how the country should deal with the vaccine rollout (03:54).
This week we delve into the Nanavati case, which inevitably led to the abolition of the jury system in India. Commander Nanavati vs State of Maharashtra changed the way in which Indians viewed justice, and a precedent was set by the timely intervention of the Bombay High Court (02:56). As more media fueled cases are first tried in the court of public opinion, we wonder if the jury system should be brought back to the country (36:18). We also share our early impressions on WandaVision. Disney and Marvel's have attempted something so beautifully bizarre, that we may never actually see another episode again (59:18).
This week, we discuss the legendary Keshavananda Bharti Case and the cowardly attacks on the US Capital. First, we discuss the events, necessary judgments, and repercussions that led to the 1973 dispute with the State of Kerala. (05:41) Indians to this day reap the benefits of the doctrine of the basic structure of the Constitution. We then move on to the January 6 attack on the US Capital, which was among the most cowardly terrorist attacks of the last century. (48:23) The world is watching closely as the world's oldest democracy deals with an unprecedented turn of events, as America’s sovereignty is blatantly questioned.
This week we dig deep into our content bag, with two topics without much of a connection. First, we try picking the five items we’d choose to have on a deserted island, which quickly changes into a Pirates of the Caribbean fantasy (03:18). This is followed by deciding which products we have ethical problems while investing. Here the group realizes that most of these were far beyond our budget in the first place (25:39). All in all, the crew returns with an enchanting and meaningful hour of content.
Happy New Year! This episode started off with a PS5 review as one of us finally got our hands on the elusive machine. We then moved on to talk about our New Year resolutions for 2021 and the high points in 2020 for us. The episode then ends with us making our sports predictions in NBA, Cricket and Football. It's definitely worth a listen. Once again, Happy New Year! Hope you all have a great one!
On this episode we pick up right where we dropped off from the scams episode. This week we talked about The Commonwealth (7:30) & The Sahara company (35:34). Listen to this in-depth look of both of these scams it's a good one!
This weeks episode is all about scams. It's a similar format to our conspiracy episode, which we enjoyed making. The scams we focused on for part 1 of this episode are The FYRE Festival (11:46) and The Vyapam scam (1:04:22). We discussed each scam in detail including how they started, who was behind it, what happened after it etc. It's a funny yet interesting listen.
This week the episode started with some sombre news with the passing of Argentinian legend Diego Maradona, we remembered the legend by talking about his skill and his memorable moments. But the serious tone does not last long as we drift a little into the comical side of football (11:31). We then moved on to the first topic of the show, we talked about the places we would like to work, which actually turned out to be an entertaining and funny discussion (20:53). We then ended the show by discussing which sports each of us would play if we were professional athletes. All of us got very specific in this topic by choosing the moments of sports we would like to relive (44:42). All in all a lighter episode than the past ones.
In part 2 of our unique and rather morbid series, we look into another two cases that left us baffled. Or showed up in someone else’s list online. Either way, the mystery of 1966, when sitting Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri died under mysterious circumstances, is our first case today. Tashkent appears to be Kryptonite to our leaders, and we hypothesize on why no clarity exists on the issue after over 50 years (08:40). We then attempt and fail to have a serious discussion on the Illuminati, who have allegedly infiltrated the Indian cricket team at this point. Chaos ensues (46:40), followed by a brief mention of James Harden’s ridiculous trade request to the Nets. Clearly an unbiased conversation. Stay tuned and avoid taking any of this or us seriously (1:07:08).
In this special episode, we begin with a breakdown of one of the most legendary music rivalries of the early ’90s. We track hip hop legends Biggie and 2Pac, because while their untimely deaths still have so many unanswered questions, the events leading up to it have left many even more confused (06:04). Shifting to a mystery closer to home, the guys discuss the Noida murders of 2008 that shook the country, the untimely deaths of Arushi Talwar and Hemraj. It is astonishing that even after a decade, no clear answers on the events of 16 May still exist (42:37). We do sign things off with a somewhat different note, as some of us did manage to watch Chhalaang (1:24:28). Keep an eye out for Part 2 next week of our special episodes on Unsolved Mysteries. This week we watched Ludo on Netflix, as our stockpile of borrowed topics appears to be running dangerously low. The main Diwali release of the season is a crime movie delivered in the most cookie-cutter way possible, a good trailer to review we shared on the podcast (11:30). Then we watched a 2018 documentary on Flat Earthers, Behind the Curve, which once again explains how 2020 is essentially something we should have seen coming long ago (33:01). As time ran out, we discussed sports we find dull, where the usual suspects get piled on 1:03:30). A thoroughly unremarkable week, which in the Covid era, is something we all desperately need. This week as the world wonders how elections actually work, we step into the pool with our non-expert opinion on the 2020 American Presidential election. This includes attempts to find positives in the Trump-era, Biden’s effect for India, and armchair speculation on foreign policy (5:04). We then gush over tales of how we lost our innocence, which turns morbid due to some people (50:22). We then complete the episode by picking out which FRIENDS character each one of us is (1:10:34). This podcast will attempt to avoid BuzzFeed content in the future . Recommended Kevin - Two Popes on Netflix Arnav- 1992 Scam on sonyliv Akash - Console Wars on CBS Amrit - Life Of Natsuki on YouTube
As we keep talking policy decisions for some reason, this week, the guys decide to imagine having the power to make a decision. If each of us was Prime Minister for a day, what would we do? After sufficiently proving our skill at copying the plot points of Nayak (06:43), we move on towards deciding which fictional world we’d love to be a part of. We give character preferences, vague goals and overall unproductive reasons to be in any of these realms (1:01:07). This week the Vele round things off with IPL 2020 picks, as the playoffs and finals are upon us (1:16:14). This week Kevin brings a crucial topic to the crew. Has corona made us more selfish? We give our opinions on a real life encounter with a stranger (10:09). The crew then discusses the different traits we look for in a leader (31:00). We then talk about the musicians or music that influenced us over the last two decades (48:44) . Then we round things off with a short topic on our early Champions League picks (1:06:42). Nostalgia, doubt and frequent jabs await you in this week's episode of the Vele Podcast. Our panel discussed the body part they'd willingly sacrifice to purchase the newest Apple rebrand (6:24). Then we reveal our ages by discussing how sports were much tougher during our time, which is technically just a decade ago (19:05). This week we kick things off with a dive into the past. Our first video episode begins with Kevin asking us our favourite cartoon or animated show while growing up (4:00). This then somehow leads to a somewhat natural discussion on gun control, gun regulations, and a reminder of the futility of the debate (21:45) . We wrap things up with dreams of an advanced future, one where our favourite technological innovations take over (55:31). This week the guys tried to keep things light-hearted and failed spectacularly. The guys begin with a discussion on moments that humbled them the most, which took a morbid turn by the end (06:49). This is followed by a slightly more upbeat conversation on entrepreneurs, small businesses, and good Samaritans who shone during COVID-19 (28:04). Next up is a dishonest discussion on the lamest attempts we are ready to reveal when it comes to wooing the opposite sex (57:35).
The crew discusses their opinions on Netflix’s latest documentary, Social Dilemma. Are we controlled by the digital networks, and is there any common truth out there anymore (12:27)? Then a recap to Kabir Singh from 2018 and the impact movies have on our behavior (42:03). We then try unsuccessfully naming five films and tv shows that we discovered during the corona lockdown (59:43).
