In a special episode of the Nomad Futurist podcast, co-hosts Nabeel Mahmood and Phillip Koblence sit down with Arnav Ahluwalia, Senior at New York University and Advocate for the Nomad Futurist Foundation, marking the show's first interview with a student still entering the industry. Arnav shares his journey from New Delhi to New York, his family's business background, and his growing passion for digital infrastructure, particularly in India's rapidly expanding tech scene. Arnav's interest in digital infrastructure began unexpectedly during a Barclays internship, where he was tasked with researching NVIDIA. As he reviewed the company's financials, he discovered the data center industry's massive profitability, which piqued his curiosity. “I saw that they were making a lot of money from this industry called data centers... their revenue increased by 200% from 2022 to 2023 and 250% from 2023 to 2024. And I'm like, okay, what is this?” Encouraged by his family and guided by the practical wisdom of his uncle, Arnav chose to study in the U.S., focusing on finance and technology — an intersection that has opened up new doors and perspectives. "My uncle is also in the financial industry [and joked that I was] being stupid applying to colleges in the UK. [He said,] ‘Apply for colleges in the U.S.; exposure is better, college education is better... markets are more mature." Later in the conversation, Arnav shares insights on the cultural transformation taking place in India, where younger generations are increasingly drawn to finance and entrepreneurship. He notes a shift in mindset—one that supports exploration beyond traditional career paths. "My parents have been very flexible in terms of, ‘what do you want to do?'... I was never forced to do anything in terms of choosing a career path." Arnav's story is a testament to the power of curiosity and global support in shaping the future of young professionals in digital infrastructure. As he steps into the digital infrastructure space, his perspective brings a refreshing lens to the future of the industry — and the next generation shaping it. The conversation between host Mayank and guest Arnav Jain delves into the profound transformation of cricketing skills over the past two decades, illuminating how both batting and bowling techniques have evolved significantly. Arnav articulates the notion that the current cricketing landscape is markedly distinct from that of the early 2000s, primarily due to the emergence of new strategies, the influence of T20 formats, and the changing nature of pitches. They examine the implications of these shifts on player performance, particularly the decline in batting averages and the rising challenges faced by bowlers in today's game. Additionally, they explore the role of technology, such as DRS, in reshaping the dynamics of cricket. This dialogue not only encapsulates the shifting paradigms of cricket but also invites listeners to ponder the future of the sport in an ever-evolving competitive arena.Links referenced in this episode:freehitgear.comArnav Jain | SubstackArnav Jain (@arnav1204aj) / XCompanies mentioned in this episode: Freeheat Gear

Arnav and Vallabh, two high school students, have been dedicated to community service from a young age. Through their experiences, they discovered that helping others brings out the best in you. Motivated by this realization, they founded the non-profit organization "Open Arms Refugee" to address the harsh realities refugees face daily. The journey was challenging, as reaching out to refugees proved difficult. Many are hesitant to meet strangers, struggle with English, and lack access to technology. Instead of simply providing short-term aid like food and supplies, Arnav and Vallabh focused on empowering refugees with education and resources for long-term impact. To better understand and assist refugees who have endured trauma, both earned certifications in emergency services and trauma care. They also partnered with other organizations to amplify their impact and raise awareness. During our conversation, Arnav and Vallabh shared valuable lessons they've learned along the way: understand your audience, offer meaningful support, build partnerships within the community, step out of your comfort zone, and experience the joy of serving others.

Arnav is originally from India and after dropping out of college and booking a one-way ticket to San Francisco over 2 years ago, he played around with different ideas and almost none of them solved a ‘pressing' problem. He went from one idea to the next until, at some point in his journey, he had less than a dollar in his bank account. But still, he never gave up. Now Arnav is the founder & CEO at Coinbooks, a Web3 startup building an accounting software designed for crypto-native organizations. Arnav has raised $3.2 million from world-class investors like Multicoin Capital, and even Polygon's MATIC very own founders. Coinbooks was also accepted into Y Combinator for the summer 2022 batch. Are you a web 3 company interested in having your accounting and taxes easily handled? Check you Coinbooks out today: https://www.coinbooks.xyz

Researcher, data scientist, and founder of a FinTech program, Arnav Sheth, started working as an economist with Deloitte Tax on September 15, 2008 (also known as the day Lehman crashed). Since then, Sheth has worked as a tenured professor, startup advisor, and director of a finance program. Now he's using statistical and machine learning techniques to make predictions about financial markets. Key Takeaways STATUS QUO: People believe that mathematical models and machine learning tools will be able to predict everything, including financial markets. Right now, the financial markets are being disrupted by rising interest rates, fears of a recession, COVID supply chain issues, and war. None of these are conducive to smoothly functioning markets. Tiny changes within a big machine have secondary and tertiary effects that change the whole machine. Over time, the entire machine becomes new. The current war affecting the markets is unlike other recent wars we've experienced. Ukraine is strategically located, and the world depends on key commodities that come from the country. Every war is different, but this one is a little more disruptive and has precipitated other fears. Most asset managers fail to perform. A small number of people can truly beat the market consistently over long periods of time. The U.S. markets have generally returned around 10-12% depending on how it's measured—and that's amazing. Some years it's up 40%, while some years it's down 40%, but few people can do better than that. The markets are what they are and imposing our own views on them makes us bad investors. Just because something is successful in one area doesn't mean it will have the same success in another area. One current question is whether it's possible to predict where we are in a business cycle. Twenty years ago, Microsoft was a growth stock, while today it's a value stock. Knowing where we are in the business cycle may help people know what to do with investments. Everybody has a system for beating the market, but they can only do it for a short period in a specific area. Once the genie is out of the bottle, it's not a profitable opportunity anymore. Quote of the Show 13:36 – “People had this belief that these mathematical models, these machine learning tools are going to predict everything. They're going to change the world. They're very powerful tools. We have computational power that we've never had before, but it's not magic because of the human element. We cannot predict the way humans will behave in large groups.” Links LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/arnavsheth/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/arnavsheth Website: https://www.arnavsheth.net/ Ways to Tune In Amazon Music - https://music.amazon.com/podcasts/eccda84d-4d5b-4c52-ba54-7fd8af3cbe87/disruption-interruption Apple Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/disruption-interruption/id1581985755 Google Play - https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cub21ueWNvbnRlbnQuY29tL2QvcGxheWxpc3QvODE5NjRmY2EtYTQ5OC00NTAyLThjZjktYWI3YzAwMmRiZTM2LzNiZTZiNzJhLWEzODItNDhhNS04MDc5LWFmYTAwMTI2M2FiNi9kZDYzMGE4Mi04ZGI4LTQyMGUtOGNmYi1hZmEwMDEyNjNhZDkvcG9kY2FzdC5yc3M= Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/6yGSwcSp8J354awJkCmJlD Stitcher - https://www.stitcher.com/show/disruption-interruption YouTube - https://youtu.be/pbP9a8YYHJ4 See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
