God may be ready to fight your battle, but there are some things you must do to get in His Will to be the person that He will defend, protect or bless! The story of Jehoshaphat found in 2 Chronicles 20:1-26 is a good example of how hope, fear, doubt, seeking, belief, trust, unbelief, faith, walking by faith, receiving the victory are related. These are the steps, circumstances, or situations that we find ourselves in when a serious problem suddenly comes on us. Less serious problems may not include all of these relationships, but it seems like most do. I pray this message will help you in facing your present and future problems because you will know you have the ability to make the correct choices that will have to be made when you are faced with any problem, regardless how great it might seem. There is enough mercy and grace for any situation if we turn to Jesus with all our heart and ask for help, Hebrews 4:16, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”****Understanding the relationships between these words will give you confidence when you are seeking God about your problems or concerns.****Jehoshaphat, a great story! When King Jehoshaphat heard he was surrounded by three armies, he didn't immediately know what to do and feared, then set himself and all Judah to seek the Lord. Obeying the Scripture promises, they fasted and prayed three days before the Temple, then God spoke through one of the priests and said, "Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou King Jehoshaphat, 'Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God's. Tomorrow go ye down against them:...Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the Lord with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them: for the Lord will be with you.” Jehoshaphat accepted God's Word, Christ, and he and all Judah bowed their heads and thanked God for His answer. The next morning they marched out the gates of the city singing and praising God, and God performed the victory for them as they watched. It took them three days to gather all the spoils of the battle and then on the next day they gathered for a day of praise and worship. (Note in Psalms 22:3 that the Scripture states that God inhabits the praise of His people, so God went before them in their praises.) In recent years the concept of 'deplatforming' conservative thought and presentation has been escalating in our 'cancel culture' society. Twitter, Facebook, You Tube, and other forms of social media are aggressively involved in this when the views don't espouse their secular, globalist worldview.--Jim noted that what's even more egregious is the growing number of churches that are deplatforming the Bible, specifically Genesis and the organizations that stand behind that book. So while we once had pulpits that proclaimed, 'Thus saith the Lord,' more and more are joining the chorus of 'Yea, hath God said-' --Joining Jim for more on this critical issue was Ken Ham.

Bible Reading: Philippians 4:5-7"She's so beautiful," whispered Juli. She reached out and stroked the new lamb's soft coat. The mother sheep lay in the bed of straw next to her, watching with pride."She is." Dad sat back, wiping his hands on a towel."My favorite part of spring is all the new baby animals being born on the farm." Juli laughed as the little lamb called for her mother."New life is beautiful," Dad said. "Not just with the animals.""What do you mean?""Well, people can have new life in Christ. Because of His sacrifice and resurrection, we have the opportunity to have eternal life with Him."Juli propped her head up on her hand. "We just have to put our faith in Him, right?""That's right," said Dad. "All we have to do is trust Him. We're like lambs. Helpless little lambs." He gestured to the one at their feet. "We can't do anything for ourselves. We need Jesus to take care of us."The mother sheep nudged her baby, letting her know she was there. The lamb stopped bleating and nestled her head into her mother's curly coat."Just like this baby relies on her mom for food, warmth, and comfort, we can trust Jesus to provide for us," said Dad. "He supplies us with everything we need."Juli giggled. "That lamb doesn't look worried at all.""Exactly. We don't have to worry either." Dad smiled at her. "Do you remember the hymn we sometimes sing in church called ''Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus'?""Yes!" said Juli. "The one that goes, ''Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, just to take Him at His Word'?"Dad nodded. "'Just to rest upon His promise, just to know 'Thus saith the Lord!'" He finished the lyrics, then sighed. "Isn't it nice to know that no matter what, we don't have to worry because Jesus promises to take care of us?"Juli gave the lamb one final pat. "Just like Faith's mom takes care of her.""Faith?"Juli nodded. "That's her name. I'm calling her Faith."Dad ruffled her hair. "That's a really wonderful name." Josephine LohrHow About You?Do you have faith in Jesus? Do you trust Him no matter what? Trusting Jesus isn't always easy in this sinful world. It's so important for our Dhamma practice that we have an example to emulate and inspire us. Therefore, the Buddha has declared a pair of disciples as the exemplars for us to model our practice on:For monks: Ven Sāriputta and Ven MahāmoggallānaFor nuns: Ven Khemā and Ven UppalavaṇṇāFor male lay disciples: Citta & HatthakaFor female lay disciples: Khujjuttarā & NandamātāIn this Dhammatalk Ajahn Dhammasiha focuses on Khujjuttarā, the top standard for female lay disciples, who was a servant in the palace of King Udena. Listening to the Buddha she became a stream-enterer and then shared the teachings with the 500 wifes of the king, ultimately leading all of them to realize the Dhamma. Most amazingly, her teachings are preserved to this day in a part of the Tipiṭaka called 'Itivuttaka' ('Thus was it said'), allowing us to study and practise according to these original instructions.www.castbox.fm/ch/2744970www.dhammagiri.org.auwww.facebook.com/dhammagiri-forest-hermitagewww.tinyletter.com/dhammagiri/archivewww.vimeo.com/dhammatalks
2020-11-29 Waiting for Hopeby Pastor Eric McNeilScripture Reference: Ezekiel 34:1-241 Then the word of the LORD came to me saying, 2 "Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel. Prophesy and say to those shepherds, 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Woe, shepherds of Israel who have been feeding themselves! Should not the shepherds feed the flock? 3 "You eat the fat and clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fat sheep without feeding the flock. 4 "Those who are sickly you have not strengthened, the diseased you have not healed, the broken you have not bound up, the scattered you have not brought back, nor have you sought for the lost; but with force and with severity you have dominated them. 5 "They were scattered for lack of a shepherd, and they became food for every beast of the field and were scattered. 6 "My flock wandered through all the mountains and on every high hill; My flock was scattered over all the surface of the earth, and there was no one to search or seek for them.""' 7 Therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD: 8 "As I live," declares the Lord GOD, "surely because My flock has become a prey, My flock has even become food for all the beasts of the field for lack of a shepherd, and My shepherds did not search for My flock, but rather the shepherds fed themselves and did not feed My flock; 9 therefore, you shepherds, hear the word of the LORD: 10 'Thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I am against the shepherds, and I will demand My sheep from them and make them cease from feeding sheep. So the shepherds will not feed themselves anymore, but I will deliver My flock from their mouth, so that they will not be food for them.""' 11 For thus says the Lord GOD, "Behold, I Myself will search for My sheep and seek them out. 12 "As a shepherd cares for his herd in the day when he is among his scattered sheep, so I will care for My sheep and will deliver them from all the places to which they were scattered on a cloudy and gloomy day. 13 "I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries and bring them to their own land; and I will feed them on the mountains of Israel, by the streams, and in all the inhabited places of the land. 14 "I will feed them in a good pasture, and their grazing ground will be on the mountain heights of Israel. There they will lie down on good grazing ground and feed in rich pasture on the mountains of Israel. 15 "I will feed My flock and I will lead them to rest," declares the Lord GOD. 16 "I will seek the lost, bring back the scattered, bind up the broken and strengthen the sick; but the fat and the strong I will destroy. I will feed them with judgment. 17 "As for you, My flock, thus says the Lord GOD, 'Behold, I will judge between one sheep and another, between the rams and the male goats. 18 'Is it too slight a thing for you that you should feed in the good pasture, that you must tread down with your feet the rest of your pastures? Or that you should drink of the clear waters, that you must foul the rest with your feet? 19 'As for My flock, they must eat what you tread down with your feet and drink what you foul with your feet!' " 20 Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD to them, "Behold, I, even I, will judge between the fat sheep and the lean sheep. 21 "Because you push with side and with shoulder, and thrust at all the weak with your horns until you have scattered them abroad, 22 therefore, I will deliver My flock, and they will no longer be a prey; and I will judge between one sheep and another. 23 "Then I will set over them one shepherd, My servant David, and he will feed them; he will feed them himself and be their shepherd. 24 "And I, the LORD, will be their God, and My servant David will be prince among them; I the LORD have spoken.

There is enough mercy and grace for any situation if we turn to Jesus with all our heart and ask for help, Hebrews 4:16, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” ****Understanding the relationships between these words will give you confidence when you are seeking God about your problems or concerns. ****Jehoshaphat, a great story! When King Jehoshaphat heard he was surrounded by three armies, he didn't immediately know what to do and feared, then set himself and all Judah to seek the Lord. Obeying the Scripture promises, they fasted and prayed three days before the Temple, then God spoke through one of the priests and said, "Hearken ye, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and thou King Jehoshaphat, 'Thus saith the Lord unto you, Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not yours, but God’s. Before baptism he was a renowned military commander under Trajan. While hunting in the woods, he met a great stag with a shining Cross between his antlers. Through the stag, the Lord spoke to Placidas (his pagan name) and told him to find a priest and be baptized into Christ. Returning home, he found that his wife Tatiana had also had a vision in which she was told to become a Christian. They were baptized, Placidas receiving the name Eustathius, and Tatiana the name Theopiste; their two sons were baptized with them. Eustathius and his family were almost immediately subjected to a series of grievous trials, in which all were separated from one another. After years of hardship they were re-united, and returned to Rome with honor when the Emperor sought out Eustathius to command his army once again. But when the Emperor Hadrian (who had succeeded Trajan) commanded them to worship the idols, all of them refused. They were put together into a large bronze ox which was heated white-hot in a fire. When their bodies were removed, they were found to be dead but intact. The Prologue concludes, 'Thus this glorious general gave to Caesar that which is Caesar's, and to God that which is God's, and entered into the eternal Kingdom of Christ our God.'

Text: Ez 2,1-10 The Vision of the Scroll, Ezekiel's Call and Commission "God said to me: O mortal, stand up on your feet, and I will speak with you. And when he spoke to me, a spirit entered into me and set me on my feet; and I heard him speaking to me. He said to me, Mortal, I am sending you to the people of Israel, to a nation of rebels who have rebelled against me; they and their ancestors have transgressed against me to this very day. The descendants are impudent and stubborn. I am sending you to them, and you shall say to them, 'Thus says the Lord God.' Whether they hear or refuse to hear (for they are a rebellious house), they shall know that there has been a prophet among them. And you, O mortal, do not be afraid of them, and do not be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns surround you and you live among scorpions; do not be afraid of their words, and do not be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house. You shall speak my words to them, whether they hear or refuse to hear; for they are a rebellious house. But you, mortal, hear what I say to you; do not be rebellious like that rebellious house; open your mouth and eat what I give you. I looked, and a hand was stretched out to me, and a written scroll was in it. "The person who approaches the pulpit is, in some serious way, saying to the congregation 'Thus says the Lord'" Rooted in the belief that Scripture is a gift of revelation from God with purpose, Jay and Josh discuss the need for pastors to feed the flock the pure, unadulterated Word of God, rather than their own thoughts or a diluted summary of biblical truths. Much time is spent thinking about what impact expository preaching has on the lives of lay persons.

Ezekiel was appointed as a watchman to warn Israel in exile regarding the coming of the Day of YHWH. The Word of YHWH would be the only words he could speak for years. Thus Ezekiel began to represent a sign-act before all Israel in exile regarding their hardness of heart. And You Shall Know That I Am YHWH | Episode 4 | Ezekiel 3:16-27 And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of YHWH came unto me, saying, "Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me. When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thy hand. Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. Again, when a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteous deeds which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thy hand. Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he took warning; and thou hast delivered thy soul." And the hand of YHWH was there upon me; and he said unto me, "Arise, go forth into the plain, and I will there talk with thee." Then I arose, and went forth into the plain: and, behold, the glory of YHWH stood there, as the glory which I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell on my face. Then the Spirit entered into me, and set me upon my feet; and he spake with me, and said unto me, "Go, shut thyself within thy house. But thou, son of man, behold, they shall lay bands upon thee, and shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them: and I will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover; for they are a rebellious house. But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, 'Thus saith the Lord YHWH': He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house."
The glory of YHWH appeared to Ezekiel in Babylon. YHWH had not abandoned His people, but they would not like what He had to tell them. YHWH was calling Ezekiel to go and speak to them. It would not be easy. And You Shall Know That I Am YHWH | Episode 3 | Ezekiel 2:1-3:15 And he said unto me, Son of man, stand upon thy feet, and I will speak with thee. And the Spirit entered into me when he spake unto me, and set me upon my feet; and I heard him that spake unto me. And he said unto me, "Son of man, I send thee to the children of Israel, to nations that are rebellious, which have rebelled against me: they and their fathers have transgressed against me even unto this very day. And the children are impudent and stiffhearted: I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, 'Thus saith the Lord YHWH.' And they, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear, (for they are a rebellious house), yet shall know that there hath been a prophet among them. And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns are with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house. And thou shalt speak my words unto them, whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear; for they are most rebellious. But thou, son of man, hear what I say unto thee; be not thou rebellious like that rebellious house: open thy mouth, and eat that which I give thee. And when I looked, behold, a hand was put forth unto me; and, lo, a roll of a book was therein; and he spread it before me: and it was written within and without; and there were written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woe." And he said unto me, "Son of man, eat that which thou findest; eat this roll, and go, speak unto the house of Israel." So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat the roll. And he said unto me, "Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness. "And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them. For thou art not sent to a people of a strange speech and of a hard language, but to the house of Israel; not to many peoples of a strange speech and of a hard language, whose words thou canst not understand. Surely, if I sent thee to them, they would hearken unto thee. But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel are of a hard forehead and of a stiff heart. Behold, I have made thy face hard against their faces, and thy forehead hard against their foreheads. As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they are a rebellious house. Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thy heart, and hear with thine ears. And go, get thee to them of the captivity, unto the children of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, 'Thus saith the Lord YHWH'; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear. Then the Spirit lifted me up, and I heard behind me the voice of a great rushing, saying, "Blessed be the glory of YHWH from his place." And I heard the noise of the wings of the living creatures as they touched one another, and the noise of the wheels beside them, even the noise of a great rushing. So the Spirit lifted me up, and took me away; and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit; and the hand of YHWH was strong upon me. Then I came to them of the captivity at Tel-abib, that dwelt by the river Chebar, and to where they dwelt; and I sat there overwhelmed among them seven days.
Zechariah 6:12-13 (NKJV) 12 Then speak to him, saying, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, saying: "Behold, the Man whose name is the BRANCH! From His place He shall branch out, And He shall build the temple of the LORD; 13 Yes, He shall build the temple of the LORD. He shall bear the glory, And shall sit and rule on His throne; So He shall be a priest on His throne, And the counsel of peace shall be between them both." '
2 Samuel 7:4-17 (NKJV) 4 But it happened that night that the word of the LORD came to Nathan, saying, 5 "Go and tell My servant David, 'Thus says the LORD: "Would you build a house for Me to dwell in? 6 For I have not dwelt in a house since the time that I brought the children of Israel up from Egypt, even to this day, but have moved about in a tent and in a tabernacle. 7 Wherever I have moved about with all the children of Israel, have I ever spoken a word to anyone from the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, 'Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?' " ' 8 Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts: "I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. 9 And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth. 10 Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore, as previously, 11 since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also the LORD tells you that He will make you a house. 12 "When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men and with the blows of the sons of men. 15 But My mercy shall not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you. Your throne shall be established forever." ' " 17 According to all these words and according to all this vision, so Nathan spoke to David.
October 20, 2019 Introduction Zechariah has always been a scary book to me. It ranks up there with Revelation because of its large number of visions and apocalyptic language. However, once we look at it from a higher perspective, we find that this book is not as scary or complicated as it seems. We can see the message of this book as we forget all of our knowledge of the New Testament and think as those Jews were thinking. So let's begin with understanding where and when this book was written. Zechariah was a prophet during the time of Zerubbabel, as we studied in the book of Ezra. The Babylonian exiles have returned to Jerusalem, and they began to build the temple of the Lord as Cyrus instructed. However, they stopped working because the nations around them were oppressing them, and they were disheartened to see how the new temple compared to the temple of Solomon. So the temple foundation laid dormant for twenty years until the rise of King Darius of Persia. At this time, God chose to send Jerusalem two prophets, Haggai and Zechariah. Haggai was a short book, but it was full of encouragement. God said over and over again that he would be with his people, and that he would pour out the riches of the nations on them in time. He calls Zerubbabel God's signet ring to say that through him, the promises made to David would come true. When we turn to Zechariah, we find a very similar circumstance and a similar message. From 10,000 ft, Zechariah reveals his message in an eight vision story, one sermon on how God's people were only worshipping for themselves, and two oracles. One oracle is about a great shepherd king that will come and save God's people from bad shepherds, and the other is about how God would save Jerusalem from the nations that are raging against them. The Eight Vision Story (1-6) In the first six chapters, we have eight seemingly unrelated visions. If we were to study each of these visions individually, we would come up with all kinds of explanations for their meaning. However, looking at all the visions as a whole helps us see the progression from one vision to another. We need to overlook the details of the vision to see an overall message. Then, we can fit that message into the storyline. Before we get into the first vision, I would like for us to see the introduction to the book in the first six verses. Zechariah 1:1--6 (ESV) --- 1 In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, son of Iddo, saying, 2 "The Lord was very angry with your fathers. 3 Therefore say to them, Thus declares the Lord of hosts: Return to me, says the Lord of hosts, and I will return to you, says the Lord of hosts. 4 Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets cried out, 'Thus says the Lord of hosts, Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.' But they did not hear or pay attention to me, declares the Lord. 5 Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever? 6 But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? So they repented and said, 'As the Lord of hosts purposed to deal with us for our ways and deeds, so has he dealt with us.'" The introduction to the book has God pleading with his people to return to him. This is the same thing we saw God trying to do in the book of Malachi, which takes place about one hundred years later. In Malachi, they respond, "How shall we return to you." But in Zechariah, they have repented of their sins and recognized God's faithfulness. God has brought about everything he promised. This return to God is the basis for the book. The Earth Is At Rest (1:7-17) In the first vision, a horse comes riding in from patrolling the earth and reveals that all is at rest, but it shouldn't be at rest. God's people are still destroyed. It has been seventy years since Jerusalem's temple was destroyed, and God's people have been allowed to return, but the temple is still in ruins. The angel asks God, "How long will you have no mercy on Jerusalem and the cities of Judah, against which you have been angry these seventy years?" (Zech 1:12) God responds with gracious and comforting words, "I have returned to Jerusalem with mercy; my house shall be built in it, declares the Lord of hosts, and the measuring line shall be stretched out over Jerusalem." (Zech 1:16) This is a vision about God choosing to prosper his people again after destroying them so long ago. He is going to judge Israel's enemies and give his people peace and prosperity. Sending Four Craftsmen (1:18-21) In the second vision, Zechariah sees four horns. These represent kings or kingdoms in apocalyptic language. In this case, the Lord shows Zechariah four craftsmen who are coming to "terrify" and "cast down" the "horns of the nations who lifted up their horns against the land of Judah." So this little vision is promising that God is sending "craftsmen" to wipe out Judah's enemies and save God's people from being ashamed and vulnerable. Measuring Jerusalem For Expansion (2) The third vision is of a man with a measuring line in his hand. Measuring lines typically indicate an evaluation for judgment or expansion. Thankfully, this measuring line is for the expansion of Jerusalem. God will protect Jerusalem and make the nations into plunder for them (2:9). God even promises twice that he will come and dwell in their midst. To the Jew, this would refer to the glory of the Lord descending on the temple, but we understand it to refer to Jesus being God on the earth. Cleaning the High Priest (3) The fourth vision adds another part to the storyline. Not only will the enemies be killed, and the city is overflowing with people, but God will also give the people a clean high priest who can offer sacrifices on behalf of the people to atone for their sins. He says that as long as Joshua (the high priest at the time) obeys the Lord, he will have access to the Most Holy Place. But amid this fourth vision, he makes a promise that the branch will come and remove the iniquity of the people in a day. This side note will be crucial for later. Grace To It (4) The fifth vision is the second central vision. It is a vision of seven lamps on a lampstand with a bowl on top and two olive trees on the sides. The explanation of this vision is found in verses 6-7. Zechariah 4:6--7 (ESV) --- 6 Then he said to me, "This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. 7 Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain. And he shall bring forward the top stone amid shouts of 'Grace, grace to it!'" Joshua is restored as the high priestly figure, and Zerubbabel will be the kingly figure. However, he will give all the credit to the Lord because God is the one who made the rebuilding of the temple possible. So he will add the last stone to the temple, and everyone will shout, "Grace, grace to it." What a scene! The Curse Goes Out (5:1-4) Then, in the sixth vision, things take a turn for the worst. The curse goes out over the face of the whole earth as a scroll flies over. This represents the failure of the people again. Their failure will once again cause them to be destroyed. Iniquity Sent Away (5:5-10) Fortunately, the seventh vision comes in and reveals that the iniquity of the people is in a basket, and it is being carried away. This is illustrated by a woman being thrown into a basket with a leaden weight on the opening. The woman represents all wickedness, and as two women with wings carry it away, the people are reassured that their iniquity will be removed. The branch from the third vision has come and removed the iniquity as was promised in the fourth vision. God's Spirit At Rest (6:1-8) This brings us back around to the final vision of horsemen patrolling the earth again. In the first vision, there was rest on the earth, but in this vision, God's spirit has rest. We can see the progression of this story as God's people are restored, and the nations are judged. God finds rest in this balance, and we can see from our vantage point that God has accomplished all of this. Jerusalem was rebuilt, the people were restored along with their temple; the nations were judged as God rose evil nations against them. But the people were cursed by their disobedience and needed someone to remove the iniquity. Conclusion: A Priest On The Throne (6:9-15) After these visions are over, Zechariah is commanded to collect silver and gold to make a crown and put it on the high priest. Zechariah 6:12--13 (ESV) --- 12 And say to him, 'Thus says the Lord of hosts, "Behold, the man whose name is the Branch: for he shall branch out from his place, and he shall build the temple of the Lord. 13 It is he who shall build the temple of the Lord and shall bear royal honor, and shall sit and rule on his throne. And there shall be a priest on his throne, and the counsel of peace shall be between them both."' This would represent that the branch will come and be both a high priest and king. This is an odd way to conclude this section, but we can see how it explains everything. The branch is Jesus, and he will carry away the iniquity of us all by being our high priest and king. Sermon About Obedience (7-11) The first six chapters are the hardest to understand. The last eight chapters will be a little easier. In chapters 7 and 8, we see the people asking Zechariah whether they should continue to fast as they remember the destruction of Jerusalem multiple times a year. Zechariah tells them that God doesn't care anything about their fasting and external obedience. He says that they are only doing that for themselves. Instead, God wants them to be faithful to God and faithful to one another. He wants to see justice and peace. So God decides to bless the people abundantly, and he commands that they feast when they use to fast. The Shepherd King Oracle (9-10) Then, in chapters 9-11, we see God foretell the coming of a humble king who will shepherd his people so that they are mighty, glad, and remember the Lord wherever they live. He will be a humble and gentle king who strengthens the nation. This sermon is wrapped up with a performance by Zechariah. He becomes a shepherd who fires the under-shepherds who mistreat the sheep. After firing them, he grows impatient with the sheep. He let's those who refuse to follow die and be destroyed. Then he breaks his staffs Favor and Union to represent that those sheep will not receive favor or be united with his people. The Salvation of Jerusalem Oracle (12-14) The book concludes with a sermon that is one of the most debated sections of scripture. In this section, many people try to determine the details instead of seeing the picture that is being given. Chapter 12 begins with God making Jerusalem unbreakable. The nations rage against it, but they cannot conquer the city. Instead, God comes in and strikes them down. Then, God's people conquer all their enemies and become like David, God, and the angel of the Lord. Zechariah 13:1 (ESV) --- 1 "On that day there shall be a fountain opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and uncleanness." Here we see the branch has come and accomplished what he was sent to do. He has cleansed the people of their iniquity. The rest of chapter 13 lays out how the people will be faithful even though they will continue to be persecuted. God will refine them and be proud to be their God. Chapter 14 reiterates what was said in chapters 12 and 13, but this time he adds an illustration of God defeating the enemies that is terrifying. The nations rage against God's people and carry half of the city into exile while the other half is saved. The Lord shows up with his feet on Mount Olive. Then, he splits the earth in two and causes the living waters to flow out of Jerusalem. Zechariah 14:9 (ESV) --- 9 And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be one and his name one. The enemies of the Lord will be plagued, and they will rot, but some of the nations will worship the Lord. Everyone will be able to worship him in the end because all who obey will be considered "Holy to the Lord" (Zech 14:16-21). What Is The Message? Many people want to interpret the prophecies of this book in correlation with the events that happened in the 70 AD destruction of Jerusalem. Others want to believe in some event that still hasn't happened yet. I see a lot of those correlations in this with the life of Jesus, but the problem comes when we try to make it fit history. The visions and the apocalyptic language in this book are fantastic. However, I don't believe God is trying to give us an understanding of how a physical battle will be fought. If he is talking about a physical battle, the details don't fit anything we have ever seen. But, if we see these events as physical representations of the spiritual battle to save God's people from their sins and give them the security that they have always needed, I think it all makes sense. Some parts of this are literal. Jesus is pierced, and people do mourn. The fountain that was opened as Jesus said in John 4 and John 7, representing the spiritual life that he provides. There was an earthquake, and the vale of the temple was torn in two, not the earth. The persecutions that Christians face can't be represented by a physical city being besieged because we have no physical town. These are figures used to encourage Jews who have no concept of all that Jesus would one day come and accomplish. God is revealing the spiritual realities using physical images. The siege of Jerusalem in 70 AD was nothing like this description. Instead, this is like the Ezekiel 38-39 battle of Gog and Magog, or Psalm 2, where the nations are raging against the Lord and his anointed. That is where we find the message of this book. Like Israel, all of us have wandered away from the truth and pursued our idols. Many of us have come back to God like these Israelites, hoping for a better life filled with meaning and joy. Maybe we fasted as they did, really worshipping for ourselves instead of for God. Perhaps we were trying to be righteous and exhibit external obedience. As the Jews were discouraged by the nations around them, so are we. That makes this prophecy extremely encouraging. God is telling us that those who return to the Lord and repent will receive a spirit of grace, compassion, and mercy as they follow the shepherd/king who God has set up. They will become like David, God, and the angle of the Lord in battle. This decision will result in persecution and suffering, but the result will be salvation and life through the one true king. I believe all of the things that Zechariah reveals happen in the New Testament and point toward God destroying the enemies of God's people and giving them peace, security, and victory in the end. They are cleansed from their sins and worship the Lord as his holy people.

Thanks for joining me today for "A Little Walk with God." I'm your host Richard Agee. Exile sounds like a pretty nasty, terrible word, doesn't it? My pastor is taking us through a series called "Embracing Exile," inspired by the book authored by T. Scott Daniels with the same title. When you hear the word exile, you probably imagine the thousands fleeing political persecution or those driven out of their homeland by disease, poverty, violence, or even genocide. We think of all the bad things associated with the word. We believe exile a horrendous tragedy that no one should face. But take a hard look at the life cycle of the Israelites in the Old Testament. Dr. Daniels points out the nation performed at its best spiritually when going through times of exile. [1] Saul, David, and Solomon served as probably the three most notable kings in the nation's history, and the only three who led a united Israel. But it only took these three kings' behavior to split the country and drive it away from serving God. Israel's kings were not all bad, there were a few good men, but not many. During their exiles, though, the Israelites listened to their prophets. They clung to the hope heard in God's words. They changed their ways to serve God in the ways he desired. Exile helped the Israelites to see their dependence on God instead of themselves. In fact, Jeremiah clearly saw how God moves in times of exile. The story in Jeremiah 32 shows remarkably well how God works even in times of exile for his people. King Zedekiah didn't like Jeremiah's prophecies. He always came with bad news. Zedekiah wanted to hear the words of his other prophets. "You'll win this war." "Go ahead and protest against Babylon. That pagan doesn't stand a chance." "God's got this, stand up and fight." Then there is Jeremiah. "King, not only will you lose the war, you and your sons will end up in Babylon. You won't be king long. Instead, you'll be a prisoner and who knows what that pagan king will do to you. But don't worry, God will let some of us come back in 70 years." Yeah, Jeremiah wasn't very popular. That's why Zedekiah put him in cisterns and prison and other not so wonderful places. So there Jeremiah sat in the court of the guards, house arrest, jail. He knew Israel's days were coming to a close. Soon, Babylon's soldiers would come screaming through the gates. They would kill or capture every official, and cart them off to into exile. Jeremiah, as a prophet, heard from God. He shared these words with us: “The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadnezzar. At that time the army of the king of Babylon was besieging Jerusalem, and Jeremiah the prophet was shut up in the court of the guard that was in the palace of the king of Judah. For Zedekiah king of Judah had imprisoned him, saying, "Why do you prophesy and say, 'Thus says the Lord: Behold, I am giving this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall capture it;”[2] God told him those things before. Nothing new here. God reiterated the stuff he'd been trying to get the people to hear for years but refused. Once more, the message came, and Jeremiah delivered it. Then God told him something strange. “Jeremiah said, “The word of the Lord came to me: Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you and say, ‘Buy my field that is at Anathoth, for the right of redemption by purchase is yours.' Then Hanamel my cousin came to me in the court of the guard, in accordance with the word of the Lord, and said to me, ‘Buy my field that is at Anathoth in the land of Benjamin, for the right of possession and redemption is yours; buy it for yourself.' Then I knew that this was the word of the Lord. “And I bought the field at Anathoth from Hanamel my cousin, and weighed out the money to him, seventeen shekels of silver. I signed the deed, sealed it, got witnesses, and weighed the money on scales. Then I took the sealed deed of purchase, containing the terms and conditions and the open copy. And I gave the deed of purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah son of Mahseiah, in the presence of Hanamel my cousin, in the presence of the witnesses who signed the deed of purchase, and in the presence of all the Judeans who were sitting in the court of the guard. I charged Baruch in their presence, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Take these deeds, both this sealed deed of purchase and this open deed, and put them in an earthenware vessel, that they may last for a long time. For thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Houses and fields and vineyards shall again be bought in this land.'”[3] God told all the prophets of that era Israel's disobedience meant their destruction. The Northern Kingdom already fell to foreign aggression. Now, the Southern Kingdom faced Nebuchadnezzar. King of the most powerful nation in the known world. His army never lost, and his army stood at the gates. The city already felt the impact of the siege. Buy fields when you know the enemy will take it? Ridiculous! Pay full price for land you will never use? What was God thinking? Didn't God know the Babylonians had siegeworks growing around the outer walls every day? Didn't he tell the prophet the city would fall? Why spend good silver on a lousy investment? Hadn't Solomon's proverbs advised against such foolishness? It's interesting how many times God tells his people to do things that look pretty foolish to the world. Have you ever noticed? Noah built an ark when it had never flooded anywhere before. Abraham took off for parts unknown, believing God would make a great nation of his lineage at the age of 75 when he had no children. David, still a shepherd, challenged a seasoned giant of a soldier in hand to hand combat with a sling and a stone. God asks his followers to do things that look foolish sometimes. Paul gives us a clue when he tells us God's foolishness is wiser than man's wisdom, though. He knows what he's doing far better than we do. We think we exude intelligence and wisdom sometimes, but all you need do is look around at the state of affairs we created, and it doesn't take much to discover we're not so smart after all. Jeremiah believed God. He bought the field, signed the title, and put the deed in clay jars to preserve them long enough for the nation to return. Jeremiah trusted God's people would wake up in their exile, and return to their worship of the one true God, Jehovah. He believed they would thrive in exile, unlike what they did in what they thought were the good old days of the kingdom. You see, we get it wrong so often. We consider the comfortable, prosperous, easy times the ones we should desire. Looking over Israel's history, the history of the early church, often my personal account, I'm not sure we have it right. My best times spiritually sometimes come when I can't see how I'm going to make it tomorrow. When no solution to the problem presents itself except God, I must rely on him. I have no choice, so I draw close to him for life. When we think we can solve every problem ourselves, we believe we don't need God. We get into our head we are as smart as he is. We look at life like the rich young ruler and forget an accounting comes much sooner than we expect. The truth be told, we don't do a very good job of solving things. Just look around at the mess we've made of the world and tell me how well we've done. I'm not asking for it, by any means, but sometimes I wonder if we would be better off with more struggles in life. I think we would need God more if life weren't so easy. Maybe we need to live in a state of exile and realize how much we need God. Perhaps it's time we embrace a different lifestyle that pushes us toward him instead of thinking we are self-sufficient all the time. Of course, if the revelator is right, it might not be long before we find ourselves in just that position. You might want to start practicing a little more reliance on him starting today. Gospel MT 20:1-16 Jesus told his disciples this parable:"The Kingdom of heaven is like a landownerwho went out at dawn to hire laborers for his vineyard. After agreeing with them for the usual daily wage,he sent them into his vineyard.Going out about nine o'clock,he saw others standing idle in the marketplace, and he said to them, 'You too go into my vineyard, and I will give you what is just.'So they went off. And he went out again around noon, and around three o'clock, and did likewise.Going out about five o'clock,he found others standing around, and said to them,'Why do you stand here idle all day?'They answered, 'Because no one has hired us.'He said to them, 'You too go into my vineyard.'When it was evening the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman,'Summon the laborers and give them their pay, beginning with the last and ending with the first.'When those who had started about five o'clock came, each received the usual daily wage.So when the first came, they thought that they would receive more, but each of them also got the usual wage. And on receiving it they grumbled against the landowner, saying,'These last ones worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us,who bore the day's burden and the heat.'He said to one of them in reply,'My friend, I am not cheating you.Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage?Take what is yours and go.What if I wish to give this last one the same as you?Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?'Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last."

God often calls unlikely people to do extraordinary tasks: David Gideon Nehemiah Disciples D.L. Moody Mary Slessor Founders of the Pentecostal revival Smith Wigglesworth "Then He said to them, 'Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things. Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.'” Luke 24:46-49 Endued means to put on garment - jacket God had a promise for them: "You will be baptized in the Holy Spirit and receive extraordinary power to do extraordinary things." Choose to Live by the Power of the Holy Spirit "When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance." Acts 2:1-4 They received exactly what Jesus promised The simple fisherman had become so powerful that they were turning the world upside down. God took ordinary people and did extraordinary things. God didn't' promise the baptism of the Holy Spirit just to the disciples, but to everyone. “And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions." Joel 2:28 "all flesh" When peter finished sermon, people asked "What do we need to do? Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” Acts 2:38-39 To you To your children (Jewish people were the only ones there) To all who are afar off (Greek: those people that live a far distance away) - all nations of the world - Jew and Gentile Even as many as the Lord our God will call Why would God do this? Because He wants ordinary people to have supernatural power God has a divine assignment for your life, but you can't do it on your own. “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father."John 14:12 This verse isn't just for prophets evangelists Benny Hinn Televangelists Mega church pastors Jesus is saying to every ordinary believer that is born again of the Holy Spirit I am going to give to you the baptism of the Holy Spirit and an ordinary person will be able to do the work that I do. What has happened to all of the men? Have they all fallen prey to perverted sex, drugs, and games? Have they fallen prey to the frightening lies of passive religion? Have they no vision of what it means to be men? Have they been silenced by the roar of the giant? Do they all walk around in Saul's armour and have forgotten the power of 'Thus saith the Lord?' We need men who will brave the calling to speak the Word of the Lord to the lost nations.

From the beach in Tel Aviv prepare to get impacted by Kathy Cohen as she joins host Yogi Roth on the LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS podcast. Kathy, a world traveler who has lived all over the world, shares how she has embraced life the most when she is most uncomfortable.Born in Israel, her family moved to Australia at 13 years old where Kathy had to experience ‘fitting in' from an early age. While not an easy move for a teenager it set a foundation for her to see the world. At 19 years old she had the urge to repeat the same feeling as she began to seek out the world to find a place where she didn't know the culture or language, or as she says, ‘wanted to find my feet.'Thus, Kathy's view on life transitioned from fear to adventure. From Malaysia, Bali, Phuket, an island off Singapore, the Maldives, as well as Buenos Aires in Argentina Kathy lived, completely immersing herself in each community along the way.As she sits with Yogi Roth on the LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS podcast you'll feel her passion for life, be inspired by her incredible work ethic and understand why moving back to Israel impacted her story in a massive way. They discuss her grandparents, both Holocaust survivors, the arts community in Tel Aviv, Burning Man and more as her and Yogi spent the week exploring Israel and creating content for the non-profit, Israel 21c.Follow Kathy on Instagram @CohenKathy and for more LIFE WITHOUT LIMITS podcasts around the question, 'What does it mean to be human?' follow @YogiRoth on all social media or visit www.YogiRoth.com
Succoth (Feast of Tabernacles/Ingathering) – worship, praise, redemption, eschatology, thanksgiving, celebrating the harvest of righteousness in our lives An Eye for an Eye Before I close out the parashah, I want to briefly share some Talmudic quotes that revolve around an issue found in chapter 24 verses 17-22: Version: NAS Lev 24:17-22 17. 'And if a man takes the life of any human being, he shall surely be put to death. 18. 'And the one who takes the life of an animal shall make it good, life for life. 19. 'And if a man injures his neighbor, just as he has done, so it shall be done to him: 20. fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; just as he has injured a man, so it shall be inflicted on him. 21. 'Thus the one who kills an animal shall make it good, but the one who kills a man shall be put to death. 22. 'There shall be one standard for you; it shall be for the stranger as well as the native, for I am the LORD your God.'" That the sages of antiquity had differing opinions as to the meanings behind these verses is made evident from our Talmudic extract, taken from Tractate Bava Kama: MISHNA I.: One who wounds his neighbor is liable to pay the following five things, viz.: damage, pain, healing, loss of time, and disgrace. "Damage."--If he blinds one's eye, cuts off his hand, or breaks his leg, the injured person is considered as if he were a slave sold in the market, and he is appraised at his former and his present value. "Pain."--If he burns him with a spit or with a nail, if even only on the nail (of his hand or foot), where it produces no wound, it is appraised how much a man his equal would take to suffer such pain. "Healing."--If he caused him bodily injury, he must heal him; if pus collected by reason of the wound, he must cause him to be healed; if, however, not by reason of the wound, he is free. If the wound heals up and breaks out again, even several times, he must cause it to be healed; if, however, it once heals up thoroughly, he is no more obliged to heal it. "Loss of time."--The injured person is considered as if be were a watchman of a pumpkin field, as he was already paid the value of his hand or foot. The disgrace is appraised with consideration of the station and rank of the one who causes as well as of the one who suffers it.
2 Samuel 7:1-17 1) Now when the king lived in his house and the LORD had given him rest from all his surrounding enemies, 2) the king said to Nathan the prophet, "See now, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of God dwells in a tent." 3) And Nathan said to the king, "Go, do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you." 4) But that same night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, 5) "Go and tell my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD: Would you build me a house to dwell in? 6) I have not lived in a house since the day I brought up the people of Israel from Egypt to this day, but I have been moving about in a tent for my dwelling. 7) In all places where I have moved with all the people of Israel, did I speak a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel, saying, "Why have you not built me a house of cedar?"' 8) Now, therefore, thus you shall say to my servant David, 'Thus says the LORD of hosts, I took you from the pasture, from following the sheep, that you should be prince over my people Israel. 9) And I have been with you wherever you went and have cut off all your enemies from before you. And I will make for you a great name, like the name of the great ones of the earth. 10) And I will appoint a place for my people Israel and will plant them, so that they may dwell in their own place and be disturbed no more. And violent men shall afflict them no more, as formerly, 11) from the time that I appointed judges over my people Israel. And I will give you rest from all your enemies. Moreover, the LORD declares to you that the LORD will make you a house. 12) When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13) He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14) I will be to him a father, and he shall be to me a son. When he commits iniquity, I will discipline him with the rod of men, with the stripes of the sons of men, 15) but my steadfast love will not depart from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away from before you. 16) And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure forever before me. Your throne shall be established forever.'" 17) In accordance with all these words, and in accordance with all this vision, Nathan spoke to David.
