This episode includes a recently discovered audio tape exposing the War on Marijuana as a total fraud, a state-by-state guide to voting for weed in the 2024 election, an up close look at how Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Walz legalized cannabis as the governor of Minnesota, and the story of a tireless grassroots activist living off $2 hot dogs at the capitol after getting busted for smoking pot outside a casino, Now, if that all sounds like a lot of strains to keep straight in the old Duder's head, just trust me, they all intersect in the life of Kurtis Hanna, my guest on this weed's program. It only takes one paw forward to pave the path to personal growth. In this episode, Adam Hill sits down with Jeff Goodrich who shares how a simple walk with his dog Duder was the first step in a journey of massive self-improvement. Through small consistent actions like daily walks, Jeff was able to lose 70 pounds, repair his marriage, complete several marathons, and find a renewed sense of purpose. Jeff discusses the transformative power of starting small instead of waiting until you feel ready to take huge leaps. He also offers valuable insights on using fear of regrets as motivation to keep progressing each day. Listen and be reminded of what's possible – through perseverance and creativity! Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: Everything starts with the first step How to find your “why” and the evolution of the “why” Small changes lead to big results Find your anchor habit to achieve consistency The role of service animals Building a healthy relationship with nutrition Episode Highlights: [03:24] Everything starts with the first step Jeff considered that first day he put a leash on Duder and took their first step outside together as truly the beginning of his journey toward transformation. [10:13] How to find your why through awareness and environment Start by exploring your environment and becoming aware of where your life is at to define what your why could be, what it should be, and what you really want it to be. [13:22] The evolution of the “why” Jeff believed one's why is constantly evolving over time and throughout life experiences. [19:30] Small changes lead to big results Weight loss occurred naturally as a result of Jeff's new daily walk routine and mindset shifts. [21:57] Find your anchor habit to achieve consistency Don't focus on the 100 things you've got to do. Find the one thing that will keep you going. [24:15] Use fear as your fuel The fear of regrets is actually a lot more powerful than the regrets themselves. That fear is what keeps Jeff continuously moving forward in his journey [38:27] The role of service animals Jeff believes service animals could greatly assist those dealing with medical or psychological issues through detection abilities, safety support, and the mental health benefits of unconditional canine companionship. [42:09] Build a healthy relationship with nutrition Clean up your diet but find out what works for you because there are so many options out there. The key is to make simple, healthier choices – what you need to eliminate and what you can add. This is the audio of our conversation with four founders of tech companies which was part of Tech Week 2022. Thanks to Hannah, Elliot, Chris, Jack and Aislinn for being part of this! Very often we just hear the glamorous part of the journey of Founders of tech start-ups. In this zoom session we heard some of the other parts too - no sugar coating, no glitz, just the reality of being an entrepreneur. Sharing were four founders who are each at different stages of the journey – one just raised money recently (Elliot Taylor of ThroughLine), two who have raised last year and are in growth phase (Jack and Chris of Komodo) and one who has recently exited (Hannah of Indigo & Iris). As all these founders incorporated elements of purpose and impact into their business models we will also be hearing about the “Tech for Good” aspects to what they each do. To do this we hear from each guest on their journey and challenges in an interview format hosted by Aislinn Molloy (Senior Solicitor at Parry Field Lawyers with an expertise in capital fundraising) and Steven Moe (Partner at Parry Field Lawyers and Seeds podcast host). The price of building has risen significantly and apparently there is no end in sight. A survey from industry leader, EBoss, found suppliers increased prices by 16% in the past 3 months and are looking to further rises of 12% in the new year. EBoss managing director, Matthew Duder, told Heather du Plessis-Allan the most remarkable price increases are on structural products; steel, structural timber, and concrete. “The most difficult thing at the moment is really having any price certainty for a job 3-, 6- or 12-months' time, which often builders have to do.” LISTEN ABOVESee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Liz presents "His Dudeness, Duder, El Duderino." It's the battle of the century! The century, of course, is the 1800s. The battle, less obviously, is a fashion challenge against two of New York's finest Dudes. Tracey and Liz also battle Steph in pop culture knowledge, and we all wish our cats could put paw to paper. Doug talks with Josh Duder - The Executive Director of the Chehalem Valley Chamber of Commerce about the importance of buying local and local entrepreneurs to a vibrant economy. In addition, entrepreneurs have the courage to fail and the tenacity to start over until they find success. As we go through the impacts of COVID, many local entrepreneurs are figuring out how to adapt to the economic hardships brought on by the shutdown orders. One of the ways we can all help is to prioritize shopping and dining locally so that we support the people in our community in their efforts to drive a recovery. Another item that Doug and Josh shared in common is that they both served in the US Marine Corps concurrently at the 6th Engineer Support Battalion HQ in Portland, OR. You can connect with Josh at: josh@chehalemvalley.org Doug's business specializes in partnering with companies and non-profits to create value and capture cost savings without layoffs to fund growth and strengthen financial results. Your host for this podcast is Doug Utberg, the founder and principal consultant for Business of Life, LLC. Doug: Welcome to the terminal value podcast. I have Josh Duder on with us and so Josh I actually share a connection that you might not know. But just by looking at us since we're both old now but we both served in the marines. The marine corps me and the reserve Josh is a permanent personnel at a very similar time. Josh has a far more cool marine background than I do. I think I spent my whole time as a reservist and he did cool stuff like you know fast rope insertions out of helicopters into buildings. But right now Josh is the executive director for the Shah Alam Valley Chamber of Commerce. Josh told me did I say that right. Josh: Yeah, yeah. Good, good one. It is the executive director the previous three people that were the executive position were considered the CEO and with the last turnover the board of directors wanted to make a title change just to sort of go with a culture change and that isn't it detract from the efforts of the last person but maybe it's a it's an effort to re-engage with the board. Doug: Yeah. Josh: And encourage them to feel enfranchised. Doug: Gotcha, gotcha. Well so one of the things that Josh and I would like to talk about today because of course I'm a member of the Chamber of Commerce also one of the chamber ambassadors but what Josh and I would like to talk about is just the importance of local business, the local economy and local entrepreneurs. You know one of the things that I'm an art believer in is that reality happens locally. I know that whenever, If you go on Facebook or any of the other news sites you're going to see national global whatever. If you're in the state of Oregon like we are you'll see stuff from the governor's office all the time because the governor's office is always doing weird stuff but the truth matters what happens in your community generally speaking is what's most impactful to your life. Whether it's your community organizations, schools etc. and so I know one of the things that we're really doing as a part of our Chamber is we're really encouraging. I think after thanksgiving we called it shop local Saturday which was encouraging people to go out and do some of their holiday shopping locally instead of just buying
Beautiful story and something we can all relate to. Saul is anointed by Samuel and is going to be king. Before he leaves for home, Samuel gives him a sign to look for. Multiple signs, in fact. Ludicrously specific signs. All happen and Saul has a new heart. But, the transplant seems to be taking its time in taking hold, at least according to Saul's coming actions. The big moment comes, and Saul, in a weird move plays hide and seek - with God. Saul loses. Saul is going to need help with the whole king gig. In the end, we see that God provides a group of men whose hearts are for God, mighty men.

Welcome to Come and Stay Awhile, our new show that is a weekly catch-up between friends.
Iowa won its bowl game. It was a square football with the minus-15 rushing yards, but it was a win and that is why you play the games. We talk Outback Bowl. A lot of ins and outs and what have you with that. (Kidding, it was a complicated case that I’m sure you will learn to love as the great gulf of the offseason flows.) We dip our toes into 2019. We do talk, because it’s our podcast and we can do whatever we want, about possible departures, both players and coaches. Prepare for Iowa to send four players into the NFL. Prepare for that. As far as coaches, that’s simply a much more difficult read, but Iowa is going to have to fight hard to keep a few guys and it’d be a minor miracle if there were no staff changes this offseason (you can probably say that about most offseasons). Here’s almost 2 hours of strands for your old Duder heads. Again, huge thanks to Penske Truck Rental for sponsoring us this season. That affirmation meant a lot. Thanks to everyone out there. You steer the ship. Thanks so much for listening. We’ll be back next week.

In these troublesome times for our Country and World, you should know that there is a dude. A dude who asks only for the occasional adult beverage, a dude who does mind, the Dude minds. “This will not stand”, he’ll say, “ya know, this aggression will not stand man.” Mike is the dude, so that’s what you call him. Well, it's a complicated case you know... about what happens next for the Cavs. A lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's for both LeBron James, Dan Gilbert and Koby Altman to ponder. Frankly, there's just a lotta strands to keep in our heads, man... lotta strands like the draft... free agency... and the future of the team. Probably too many strands for the old Duder to keep straight... but maybe not too many for Nate, Mike and EG to unwind over the course of a couple of hours in the podcast booth. We give one last gloss over the Finals, delve into the Lebowski er, LeBron Watch, speculate on where the King might end up, examine what the team might look like next year either with or without their leader, and take a stab at who we like coming out in next week's draft. Yeah, it's a long one... but like we said... it's a complicated case.

THE BIG LEBOWSKI (1998) A rug that really tied the room together until it got peed on. A hippie burnout who kept burning. A Vietnam vet who drags everyone else into his world of pain. Add to this a case of mistaken identity, the kidnapping of a trophy wife (in the parlance of our times), and an erotic artist seeking a good and thorough man and you have just *a few* of the characters and plot elements of the woolly and disoriented world of THE BIG LEBOWSKI, the cult favorite 1998 film by the legendary writer-director team of Joel and Ethan Coen. The Big Lebowski was on every single level the intentional opposite of its Oscar-winning, box office-hit predecessor FARGO (1996), and audiences and critics at the time (like some of our hosts) didn't abide this strangely hypnotic film. The Coens' vision of Los Angeles is distinctly un-Hollywood, and it's filled with anachronistic characters seemingly unstuck in time from the Wild West, the Summer of Love, and the Vietnam War all thrown into the plot of a 1950's Raymond Chandler detective novel that is playing out in the very early 1990's. There are so many ins, outs, and what-have-you's you may need to mix a White Russian and roll a joint just to think it all through. And in the years since its release, new shit has come to light - and now film audiences of all generations fully embrace and revel in the journey of Jeff Bridges' stoned drifter The Dude (or His Dudeness, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing) recovering the few things that keep his universe together – his car, his rug, and his Creedence tapes. Before you begin, be warned: This episode has some serious audio quality challenges. The levels move around more than a butterfly in flight. we talk about the Portland Timbers more than a St. Pauli podcast really ought to, but not without reason. The concept of a Fanladen in North America is, quite literally a foreign notion. However, the 107ist has a fanladen that serves as the hub for the Timbers Army and Rose City Riveters: a community center to gather, buy merch, taken in the club’s history, trade patches and even have a pint of local craft. We chat with Abram Goldman-Armstrong to talk about his history with FCSP, and some of the things that took root in Portland, Soccer City USA. Thanks to Joshua R. Duder for his participation and support making this chat happen. ☠️⚓️

Shawn got the chance to sit and talk with Nick Davidson, author of 'Pirates, Punks and Politics' as well as 'Modern Football Is Rubbish' and 'Modern Football Is Still Rubbish' (both co-authored with Shaun Hunt). A big thanks to Nick for taking the time to chat during a busy schedule, and all the great folks of Portland who made the trip possible and amazing: Joshua R. Duder of Play The Kids Podcast, Booked! "Often a person you’re interviewing will take themselves through the emotion, to the other side." - Cameron Duder For episode 4 we spoke to Cameron Duder about their interview of Shirley Petten who won a same sex benefits landmark ruling against the British Columbia Workers’ Compensation Board after the tragedy of losing her partner. We also discuss how to navigate interviewing someone about difficult topics, and how to interview someone you know well. Watch out for our next episode when we speak to Valerie Korinek on her incredible research of rural queer communities. Specifically we will discuss her chapter titled “Locating Lesbians, Finding ‘Gay Women,’ Writing Queer Histories: Reflections on Oral Histories, Identity, and Community Memory” for an upcoming anthology. Your hosts delve into the higher forms of culture today, starting out with a discussion of acting in games and how that impacts the design process. Then get out your berets and turtlenecks and get ready to snap your fingers, smoke clove cigarettes, and get hit on by a guy named Carnival Moon, because it's Mildly Alarming Poetry Corner time. Plus a note on conservation, and a very real message from a very real astronaut. Intro gag: Comin' to ya' live from a big bowl of soup, I'm Tom Rich and with me as always is POTATOS! and this is the Mildly Alarming Podcast. Episode 61: Clamparts ##Segment 1: Acting, Role-playing, and You Sometimes games require you to act like a thing that you are not. Sometimes this is charades-style, sometimes it is D&D style. What considerations go into designing and playing games like this? This is what the "Ph.D. in Nanas" thing was referencing Episode Sponsor: Calvonimous Bro Preserve ##Segment 2: Mildly Alarming Poetry Corner Tom Once upon a Sunday queery, while I Iabored—well, in theory— Over many a quaint and curious volume of our podcast lore As I droolded, clearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. “Must be Snoop Dogg,” did I mutter, “rapping at my chamber door. Only this, and nothing more.” Ah, distinctly I recall it, for I had just lost my wallet, After landing fall-down drunk upon a barroom's sticky floor. Eagerly I wished the morrow—vainly, I had sought to borrow Twenty bucks to ease my sorrow—sorrow at my podcast chore. At that pain-in-buttock tasklist that I call my podcast chore To which I'm chain-ed evermore. And the silken, sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain Thrilled me—filled me with a deep confusion never felt before; So that, now, to still the beating of my heart I stood repeating “I do not remember seating purple curtains here before— Have no memory of buying purple curtains long before Snoop Dogg turned up at my door.” Johannes Waiting outside ever longer, as my rage grew in me stronger, “Doofus,” called I, “get your lazy carcass off the floor. Clearly, I have caught you napping, or, if I'm unlucky, crapping, But most likely you were napping, napping on your chamber floor. I can see you through the window, lying there upon the floor. A moron there, and nothing more." Through the window I stood peering, (as if) my eyeballs could be searing Work ethic into my co-host, who rose, shaking, from the floor. But his silence was unbroken, and his stillness gave no token, And the only words he'd spoken had been muffled by the door. Something about Snoop Dogg, likely, muffled by his chamber door. Likely that, and nothing more. Away from the threshold turning, all my wrath within my burning, Soon I heard him tapping, louder than I tapped before. “Surely,” said I, “surely he is on his feet now, thinking ‘Geewhiz, He'll most likely break my kneeses, if I don't complete my chore, Break ‘em with a hammer if I don't complete my podcast chore.' Now open up your stupid door!” Tom Open wide I flung the shutter, and with many a flirt and flutter Out through the window stepped I, like a burglar of yore. Not the least obeisance made I; not a minute stopped or stayed I; But, dashing cross the sidewalk made I directly toward the door— Sprinting like a sumbitch aimed directly at his truck's front door. “Yolo!” called I, “Swag galore!” Johannes No he didn't; he is lying, clearly, for some reason, trying, To convince you, and by rhyming, upon your good-sense implore That you might believe this fable, to our podcast fix the label Of ‘exciting,' ‘thrilling,' ‘able'—from the list pick one or more. Look down a list of good descriptors and, from it, pick one or more. That's what he's after, the dumb whore. Tom Much I marvel, this ungainly fellow to discourse so plainly Though his mock'ry fails to cut the issue to its core. For, though yes, my goal's amusement, and is fueled by a boozement, Parody's the thing, I'm choosin' it, as I labor at this chore. The fun of parodying poems sets me working at this chore. Only this, and nothing more. Johannes I must ask, you goofy midget, think you that I am an idjit Who didn't know you had that motive, it and likely several more? For instance, note that I have uttered—with my nipples lightly buttered— Several stanzas deeply cluttered with phrasing that's a dreary chore. Phrasing hard to say aloud—you gave me this insipid chore. Delib'rate, say I, that and more! Tom Startled, my reverie broken, by reply so aptly spoken, Duder, say I, we should punch this up a good deal more. For though I like a good parody, thicky, creamly, and most carroty, We gots to take especial careody—your assistance I implore. With the next turn of this po-em, your assistance I implore. Come inside, and shut the door. Johannes Though it could get somewhat hairy, we could still poke fun at Gary And the predilections he indulges on the shore. See now, here's what I am thinking: He's aboard a ship that's sinking, And hears the sound of sea-shells clinking on the cabin floor. The sound of sea-shells clink-clink-clinking on the tilted cabin floor. List'ners, this, would never bore. Tom Funny, yes, but I am guessing, if this idea you're expressing Goes where Gary jokes have oh-so-often gone before, If our imaginations, fertile, must return, again, to turtle Then the shark our podcast hurtles, and the readers it will bore. We'll leap a shark if we talk turtle, and the readers it will bore. And they'll read us nevermore. Johannes Fair enough, you measly gno-em, but how will we end this po-em, And, these stanzas, stow-em in a package we can store? If Gary jokes are off the table, Alphonse jokes must be a fable, And I'm unsure we will be able to come up with something more. And will the listeners listen if we give them nothing more? Answer, answer, I implore! Tom Co-host, says I, your point I mind, co-host still, if rather unkind, It may be that of content we're unlikely to find more. Desolate, and rather daunted, by this lack of humor haunted, by impending failure taunted—shall we, then, press on no more? Is there beef at Taco Bell—tell me truly, I implore? Yo Quiero, anymore? Johannes Co-host, say I, loutish laggard, co-host still, if super-slaggard, You can't use a dirt-cheap taco to evade your podcast chore. This bit now's the sixteenth stanza, a cheesy, beefy, word bonanza, An excess, an extravaganza—just complete it, I implore. There can't be many stanzas left—tell how many, I implore. Tell me, now, how many more? Tom I believe that there are lurking, if my count has not been shirking, Two more stanzas left to send up ere we start meal number four. Lest our readers think us lazy, lest their patience wavers, hazy, Lest they take to acting crazy—complete, we must, this awful chore. Let us have mercy on the readers and complete this awful chore. Or they will read us nevermore. Johannes So here's how this podcast endeth, as to rhyme scheme words we bendeth, And thru' tortured language wendeth, so that meter up we shore. And as the lines draw to the finish, our hunger will soon diminish With food that tastes a little tinnish from the Taco Bell next door. We'll feast on deeply healthless foodstuffs from the Taco Bell next door. And do this segment… nevermore.
