Alexandre Tannous is a true polymath who has synthesized an enormous amount of wisdom surrounding consciousness, psychedelics, and the natural musical harmonics of the Kosmos. This is not just a philosophical conversation, there are countless hands-in-the-soil practical applications for how to use harmonics, including specific ways to use your voice in chanting or humming to tune you to Truth, release anxiety, and quiet the mind. All of which get you closer to a living connection with God, which is exactly what happened when I was tuned by the frequencies that Alexandre provided. This podcast marked a pivotal turning point in my life as a psychonaut and man of God, and I am eternally grateful for Alexandre Tannous and his multifaceted mastery. | Alexandre Tannous |Website | https://soundmeditation.com/ | https://resonantmindcollective.com/Facebook | https://www.facebook.com/alexandre.tannous.3Check out Love To The Seventh Power: https://chakaruna.com/collections/booksMetal Mark Golden Collectable Art | https://mtlmrk.com/Korrect Energy | https://korrectlife.com/| Aubrey Marcus |Website | http://bit.ly/2GesYqi Instagram | http://bit.ly/2BlfCEO Facebook | http://bit.ly/2F4nBZk X | http://bit.ly/2BlGBAdAdSubscribe to the Aubrey Marcus newsletter:https://www.aubreymarcus.com/pages/emailTo partner with the Aubrey Marcus PodcastSubscribe to the Aubrey Marcus podcast:iTunes | https://apple.co/2lMZRCn Spotify | https://spoti.fi/2EaELZO Stitcher | http://bit.ly/2G8ccJt IHeartRadio | https://ihr.fm/3CiV4x3

(Conversation recorded on May 1st, 2024) Show Summary: Music has been an integral part of the human experience for thousands of years, and continues to embody a unique aspect of culture across the world today - yet most people hold only a preliminary understanding of the full range of benefits that sound, resonance, and harmonics can provide. Today, Nate is joined by ethnomusicologist Alexandre Tannous for a deep dive on the evolution of the human relationship with sound and how music could be used as a tool to facilitate personal resilience and healing. How can resonance quiet our reptilian fight-or-flight system and positively impact personal and group consciousness? When grounded in ceremony, how does music enhance spirituality and well-being for communities? What could a world look like in which every human has the access and energy to focus on healing themselves through the powerful tools of sound and meditation? About Alexandre Tannous: Alexandre Tannous is an ethnomusicologist, sound therapist and sound researcher who holds four degrees in music, and years of experience performing, composing, conducting, teaching and lecturing on music. He has been investigating the therapeutic and esoteric properties of sound from three different perspectives - Western scientific, Eastern philosophical, and shamanic societal beliefs - to gain a deeper understanding of how, and to what extent, sound has been used to affect human consciousness. The material he transmits about sound is based on multidisciplinary research conducted over 24 years. Inspired by his findings, he designed a protocol of an integrated experience he calls “Sound Meditation”, raising an awareness to how a specifically designed sound can have the ability to help us to disconnect from habitual patterns while judiciously listening to the overtone-rich instruments he plays. He uses a method that empowers the participants to engage actively with tools that enhance their experience. Show Notes and More Watch this video episode on Youtube

Are you someone who is consciously on a healing or spiritual journey ? There are many tools available to us for breaking through our limitations and supporting our healing journey, but we often fail to succeed in receiving the full benefit that these tools have to offer because of our tendency to outsource our agency to them, according to sound researcher and ethnomusicologist, Alexandre Tannous. He believes our inner narrative plays a big role in this. In this episode, Alexandre shares with us how we can create a more empowered inner narrative to receive greater benefit from common “healing” tools, especially those of sound and psychedelics, to break through our limitations while exploring our own consciousness. He shares with us a method he has developed for receiving maximum benefit from listening to music, called Judicious Listening. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did. He has been investigating the therapeutic and esoteric properties of sound from three different perspectives - Western scientific, Eastern philosophical, and shamanic societal beliefs - to gain a deeper understanding of how, and to what extent, sound has been used to affect human consciousness. This search has led him to the intersection of art, science, philosophy and spirituality. The material he transmits about sound is based on a multidisciplinary research conducted over 23 years: observations he made during his fieldwork in over 40 countries, scientific studies, personal experiences, and data collected from thousands of people he has worked with doing sound therapy. This has led him to a deeper understanding of how sound reveals and unlocks hidden powers we have within us to promote profound inner transformation and healing. Inspired by his findings, he designed a protocol of an integrated experience he calls “Sound Meditation” in which he shares the findings from his research, raising an awareness to how a specifically designed sound can have the ability to help us to disconnect from habitual patterns while judiciously listening to the specific overtone-rich instruments he plays. He employs a phenomenological approach to study the effects of sound, using a method that empowers the participants to engage actively with tools that enhance their experience, using the consciousness-altering properties of sound to heighten self-awareness, to connect to the higher self, to fine-tune self-observation and self-enquiry. Can sound help us disconnect from unhealthy habitual patterns? Today's guest Alexandre Tannous, creator of the Sound Meditation protocol, shows how we can use harmonic frequencies to release trauma, enhance self-awareness and live happier, healthier lives. Our conversation begins with Alexandre's explanation of harmonic frequencies and the problem with the quantization of the 12-tone scale. We discuss the value of sound in the context of psychedelic experiences, as well as sound meditation protocols (set and setting). We conclude with issues that need to be addressed when working with these powerful tools. Alexandre Tannous is an ethnomusicologist, sound therapist, and sound researcher. He is also the Principal Founder of ResonantMind Collective. For the past 22 years Alexandre has been researching the therapeutic and esoteric properties of sound from three different perspectives – Western scientific, Eastern philosophical, and shamanic societal beliefs – to gain a deeper understanding of how sound has been used to affect human consciousness. This search has led him to where art, science, philosophy, and spirituality intersect. He continues to do research on sound, currently works as a sound therapist, teaches the method he has created, and lectures about sound throughout the world. He holds a Bachelor of Music with a double major in Music Theory and Composition, and a Master of Arts degree in Music Education from Columbia University Teachers College. As a recipient of the Mellon Fellowship he also earned a Master of Arts and a Master of Philosophy degrees in Ethnomusicology from Columbia University where he was enrolled in the Ph.D. program. He has taught various music courses at the same institution. The works of Alexandre Tannous are frequently performed in the United States, Europe, and in Asia. The World Première performance of his orchestral composition “Métamorphose” under his baton at Carnegie Hall in 1995 received a standing ovation. As a film composer he composed two film-scores: The Seventh Dog (2005), and Jim (2009) www.jimthefilm.com. As a musician, he has performed a variety of musical styles including classical, jazz, rock, and non-Western music on various instruments. Alexandre is also active as an ethnomusicologist. He has conducted fieldwork for 17 years in over 40 countries around the world. His ethnomusicological research investigates issues of acculturation, community, musical identity in an urban setting, and the concepts of talent, charisma, and leadership in music. He is a sought-after ethnomusicologist/composer consultant on projects in recording studios helping creating awareness in amalgamating various musical cultures. For the past 17 years he has been researching the therapeutic and esoteric properties of sound from three different perspectives – Western scientific, Eastern philosophical, and shamanic societal beliefs – to gain a deeper understanding of how, and to what extent, sound has been used to affect human consciousness. This search has led him to the intersection where art, science, philosophy, and spirituality intersect. His ethnomusicological approach entails a social scientific study of sound use in several traditional contexts—religious, spiritual, holistic, and cultural—for various purposes and occasions in entertainment, worship, meditation, and rituals of healing and trance. Consequently, his approach in researching, understanding, experiencing, transmitting, and working with sound has always been based on a multidisciplinary approach. The material he transmits about sound is based on thorough research over many years: observations he made during his fieldwork, scientific studies, personal experiences, and data collected from thousands of people he has worked with doing sound therapy. This has led him to a deeper understanding of how sound reveals and unlocks hidden powers we have within us to promote profound inner changes and healing. Inspired by his findings, he designed a protocol of an integrated experience he calls “Sound Meditation” in which he shares the findings from his research, raising an awareness to how a specifically designed sound can have the ability to help us to disconnect from habitual patterns while judiciously listening to the specific traditional instruments he plays. He employs a phenomenological approach to study the effects of sound, using a method that empowers the participants to engage actively with tools that enhance their experience, using the consciousness-altering properties of sound to heighten self-awareness, to connect to the higher self, to fine-tune self-observation, and to attain self-realization. Alexandre is a frequent guest-lecturer in major institutions such as Georgetown University, Princeton University, Columbia University, NYU, and in museums such as the American Museum of Natural History, the Metropolitan Museum of New York, the Brooklyn Museum, the Rubin Museum, and the Museum of the City of New York. He continues to do research on sound, currently works as a sound therapist, teaches this practice, and lectures about sound. On 9/18, Beginning with a presentation and a discussion which give context to this music, Alexandre will lead a sound meditation that will incorporate musical experiences from Neel Murgai (overtone loops), Arun Ramamurthy (Carnatic Violin), David Ellenbogen (guitar), Indrajit Roy-Chowdhury (sitar) and Ehren Hanson (tabla).Participants should bring eyemasks for a fully immersive experience.Brooklyn Raga Massive is a prolific artist collective who have gained accolades for “Expanding the notion of what raga—the immersive, epic form of Indian music—can mean…” (Wall St. Journal) and “Preserving the past while blurring genres in an inventive spirit,” (New York Times). All proceeds from the event will go to the Raga Massive 501-C3 non-profit to help produce the most ambitious event of the year: The epic 24 Hour/ 24 Set, Ragas Live Festival at Pioneer Works.

Topics We Covered in this Podcast: Sound may be the creator of this reality Cymatics Sound traveling through water Altering Consciousness Tibetan Monks Search for Hidden Knowledge Science tells us that all life is energy in one form or another. and, this energy is eternal, changing and morphing from one shape or form to another. Each ‘energy shape’ has its own particular pattern of frequencies, or vibrations. When one form experiences a matching frequency in the form of a musical note, the form will begin to vibrate in sympathy with a certin note. A strong enough vibration can even cause a form to restructure itself, Our body is a perfect transmitter of vibration, being 70% water. So that is why todays podcast is going to be deving into the universe of sound, when you do really think about it we are constantly walking around and living in a world of sound and sometimes we actually just forget to rember how many different beautiful sounds that are actually on this planet and are a gift to our body and minds. When peoeople provide complex information and you struggle to understand it all straight away that’s fine, don’t get frustrated cause the fact you are exposing your self complex ideas is the fact you are meant to be. Just imagine hearing the same ideas over and over again you already do understand ? now imagine indulging your mind in new ones ? what is that doing for you brain, firing and wiring new connections all over your body. Look at training the body, working muscles you haven’t before you start reaching areas, within your body that is untapped! Now go back to a bit of information, a thought a idea that will also open up and reach areas within our minds that is untapped. So that is why Alexandre Tannous is on the podcast to give us a powerful reminder that sound is everthing. Alexandre is Sound researcher, philosopher, mystic, world traveler and speaker, But more importantly, he’s done the inner-work by traveling the world, participating in indigenous shamanistic ceremonies, steeping himself in history and mysticism and so much more.
